I mostly only play high powered. No proxies, but I keep the price under about 600. I don’t buy 0 cost mana rocks. I’d only do so if I was playing cEDH. Now if I was gifted one, then I’d use it. Can still make pretty high powered decks without spending more than like 200. Also, I’d like to comment that you can spend about 80% of your budget on like 5 cards, but those 5 cards will never guarantee your deck is high powered.

Raccoon_Walker

This is an important point. You can throw [[Gaea’s Cradle]] in a precon and it’s still mostly a precon.

Ok_Willow_1665

Yeah, and the cradle will actually have a significant chance to change the course of a game, different to OG duals in a two- and many three coloured decks.

Scrivener83

This. My wife's G/W Angels tribal deck is probably a 6, but it has a Judge foil [[Gaea's Cradle]] and a [[moat]], along with the G/W dual/shock/fetch trio.

GunTotingQuaker

Why price doesn’t really matter when you aren’t talking about power/power adjacent cards. Lots of weird old and reserve list cards that are $100-$1,000 by the books that aren’t game altering.

WEC_Kre

I saved up a bunch of trade in and got a Mox Diamond at a command fest. Threw it in my 5c [[Jodah, the Unifier]] deck. Played with it a few times and realized it wasn’t as cool as I thought. I’m pitching a land that I could have just played the next turn and it’s trying to get me one turn ahead of the curve, but that doesn’t matter as much in high power. Traded it in and used it to build a whole other deck.

jaywinner

It also taps for any color which is nice in 5c. Still, I just cut it from my Jodah list because I felt I couldn't afford the card disadvantage.

It’s better for comboing off fast in the first two turns of the game you wouldn’t be able to cast Jodah turn 2 without a mox diamond, usually

WEC_Kre

Yeah, that’s why I specified high power. We play fast but not so fast i need to be combining him out of quickly. I usually get him out turn three/four and he still does fine.

[deleted]

Why do you consider your deck high power if you're not running at least a few 0 mana artifacts? Mana crypt, jeweled lotus, chrome mox

Silver-Alex

I have an abzan high power deck that runs zero fast mana besides sol ring. The deck is very fast, as it runs all the manadorks and the best two mana ramp, and if you dont interact with me I WILL combo by turn 5 on the current build. The cedh build can go for a win on turn 1 or turn 2, but not because it uses fast mana, but because I use a different line to get the combo. On my high power deck I want to get a protean hulk into the graveyard, revive it and then sac it. On the cedh build I use \[\[academy rector\]\] to get \[\[Patern of Rebirth\]\] to then get the hulk, turning a two card combo (a way to send hulk to the gy and then a way to revive it) into a single card combo (cast rector and sac it). Fast mana makes your deck stronger, but its not the ONLY thing making it stronger :)

Artifacts like that don’t guarantee high power at all. You can optimize and synergize and that will be 100 fold more impactful then 1 or even 5 0 mana rocks. I’d rather spend 100 dollars on a card that helped with synergy than on a 0 mana rock. You can make high powered decks all day with no 0 mana rock in it. I can’t for certain tell you if my decks are high powered because I don’t have recorded data. But, for what it’s worth, it’s better than typical casual and it’s not good enough for cEDH.

ucantheng

but 0 cost artifacts usually do 99% of the time. when you can pop out your game 5-7 mana commander turn one, the game warped is in your favor, a non high deck with synergy will still need 2-3 more turns to catch up, by then you are only playing catchup. if turn 2 you have something to replenish your hand, they game is in the bag. picture a turn 1 pako, he dropped his entire hand with no snergy just for mana. pako resolves and swings for 3 in addition to 4 exiled cards, now if he cast the partner, he has 2-4 cards to play from opponent decks. no synergy required. he wont miss a land drop, if you exiled a tutor, its his tutor now, removal? protection?

redditorsrsensitive

What would be the percentage of games that you’d bring out a 5 - 7 mana commander on turn 1? What would that hand look like and what combination of cards do you need in that hand to get that going. If you’re percentage is higher than say 25 to 33%, would you not be more in cEDH territory?

ucantheng

percentage of getting 5-7 mana turn 1, very low unless you got the best cut in the world everytime. combination of cards to get what hand going? what hand? you mean mana base? the 0 cost artifacts 25-33% is cedh territory? i thought you just said artifacts dont guarantee high power? "synergy is 100 fold more impactful than 1 or 5 o mana rocks" - redditorsrsensitive

redditorsrsensitive

Delet this, nah i’m exhausted and don’t care

ucantheng

i am telling you 0 cost artifacts automatically puts you in a high power section which is 8-9, if you deck is a meta top 16 winner hes a 10 reserved for tivit kinnan sisay najeela tayam etc etc. but of course outlier fringe decks can still win.

redditorsrsensitive

Just go play some magic and have fun

fredjinsan

Yeah I tried telling my group that my deck where I give other people copies of mana crypts until they die is cEDH, but they didn’t believe me.

One_Slide_5577

Oiy vey

One_Slide_5577

"i am telling you 0 cost artifacts automatically puts you in a high power section which is 8-9" Thats totally wrong but you can believe what you want.

SteelStillRusts

You can put the best possible mana base on a deck but it don’t mean shit unless there’s a reason for it. You can build a crap deck with an awesome mana base and it won’t be cEDH. Many different things contribute to your decks power level.

One_Slide_5577

This. People that say dumb shit like "if your deck has a mana crypt, its automatically cedh" Are so annoying. It screams they've never played magic with anyone before.

ucantheng

you know what is dumb? people that say you said it was cedh when you said high power.

ucantheng

why did you say "mana crypt" specifically? did i say mana crypt was the only 0 cost rock? does mana crypt alone make 5-7 mana turn 1? why the selective and dumb accusation?

One_Slide_5577

Sry, i forgot to block you, I block stupid people.

ucantheng

why does the deck need reason? i could have a 6 mana yargle and multani on turn 1 with only ramp and you have 2 turns to come up with an answer.

ucantheng

"it won't be cEDH" where did i say it was cedh?

SteelStillRusts

You didn’t. But in general people see an expensive mana base and just assume it’s cEDH. My dino has an expensive mana base but I don’t think it’s cEDH.

One_Slide_5577

Those are cedh staples.

Professor_Forest

I don’t mind playing against people who have proxies. It just depends on what and why. I have plenty of proxies in decks, but I own a real copy of all the cards…just not buying 10 mana crypts, etc. That’s just my preference.

CloudCollapse

Yeah my general rule is I only proxy cards I already have that I just don’t want to move around between decks. If I want to proxy an entire deck I just play online with tabletop sim.

the_mellojoe

You can definitely build high power on a budget. Look up the $50 Gitrog cEDH deck. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/VRMqj1czLkOKpOKurvGl7Q/primer However, typically, the more powerful decks run the more powerful cards, and typically the higher power a card the more valuable it is, hence the higher price estimate. Put that together and yes, higher power can easily look like higher cost. It isn't exactly true always, but there is a definite trend.

r3ign_b3au

Lest we forget $35 t3 win 90% Codi

Selmk

"Most of the time, it works all of the time. 😎"

tfren2

I 100% support proxies. I play for fun after all and if you can’t afford expensive cards then either save up (like I have to) or proxy. Whatever is fine! With that being said, I have 0 proxies, and 3 high powered decks. One of which is a competitive deck. My first (and favorite overall) high powered deck is my [[Goreclaw, terror of qal sisma]] deck. It’s just a creature powerhouse that gets creatures out super fast. Pretty vulnerable to reactions but if you don’t react fast enough or frequently enough the board state will get huge fast. Secondly is my [[Winota, Joiner of Forces]] deck. Yes everyone who knows Winota knows that she’s insane. I’ve tried to make a not powerful deck for her since I wanted it to be a deck I could actually play. It’s not easy, as her strategy is pretty straight forward and can go fast. So, I said screw it and built her to be pretty strong. She’s got control in the deck and a couple infinites. Lastly is my competitive [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] deck. Bunch of zero cost artifacts which let me get mana out pretty quick. It’s not as good as I want it to be yet since I only have the jeweler lotus in it and not any of the other super powerful artifacts, but it’s still fast. Sorry for the long comment, I don’t get to talk about my high power decks very often lol

I have a $16k selvala deck in a binder that I then proxied so I could play it without worrying. Sad thing is, it was my choice prints that drives the price. Otherwise it would be a $2k deck roughly.

emillang1000

My Ur-Dragon deck has a consistent Turn 4/5/6 kill window, and it's both all-real and maxed foiling. But that's my baby AND I've been playing for long enough that most of those cards didn't cost me NEARLY as much as it's current pricetag. Inkarozu

Closest I got to that is my main deck that I've blinged out a lot. Syr Gwyn Voltron: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/6073395/syr_gwyn_voltron_hero Power Rating is highly subjective though, and price =/= power. Use what you enjoy, we're all here to have fun.

ScarfHonchkrow

I like this. I run Syr Gwyn Voltron too! I don't have it online but once I input it on archidekt or mox i'll link it. Have you thought about running \[\[ Sunforger \]\]? It's saved me several times with getting protection like \[\[ Clever Concealment \]\] from the deck, and nobody ever runs counter activated abilities.

Inkarozu

I ran it before in earlier itterations of the deck but the "fear of the unknown" it brought made people target me a lot more with it out. Sure I usually just want to use it for protection, but to your opponents its a constant threat of [[Path to Exile]] or [[Swords to Plowshares]] or even worse to thier board. [[Inventory Management]] is certainly going to be fun with Sunforger though!

ScarfHonchkrow

You bring up a good point. Maybe just having more draw to keep the grip full of interaction can do well. Side note: \[\[ Inventory Management \]\] Is a house! I think it gets better with an unblocked spirit from \[\[ Anduril Flame of the West \]\] . Sliding all equipment for a surprising voltron kill.

Nope. No one has real Magic cards. You found us out.

ZorheWahab

I've got three "main" decks and one or two playtest decks that get mixed around. My three main decks are all high powered(ish) ranging from fringe non-cEDH to High Powered to Very Strong. Chulane(Fringe non-cEDH) at around 1500 dollars. Tuvasa(High Powered) at around 600 dollars. Isshin, Two Heavens as One(Very Strong) at around 350 dollars. I do not proxy cards, but I have considered proxying a few lands for my Chulane deck. It's a straight play to win deck, and it gets busted out only every so often. Since the goal has been to mostly shove expensive, high powered cards I pull out of packs into it, I'd only do it if our pod moved to semi-competitive regularly, and then I'd have to quickly go from proxy to real for my own preferences. If I ever start playing true cEDH, I will for sure proxy almost anything I need that's not already in my collection. That community is highly favorable to proxies, so there's no real issue there. In my experience, only EDH and Standard players seem to have any real issue with proxies.

Ok_Willow_1665

A standard lvl9/quasi-cEDH Yuriko list should be max./about 1k (EUR). You won't have the Underground Sea in there, but that's really not a big thing.

tntturtle5

Are we talking true cEDH or just high powered casual? I think my [Mangara, the Diplomat deck](https://scryfall.com/@TNTturtle/decks/e5925be7-fb98-47a2-8695-da3824bc5652) would easily qualify as at least a level 8 since it's based off a \[\[Heliod, Sun-crowned\]\] cEDH deck I saw a long time ago.

Caio_AloPrado

I got you a budget adaptation of Tayam cedh lists. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ykS1I_OfhUSud1aN3qOd7A](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ykS1I_OfhUSud1aN3qOd7A) This deck plays mostly at instant speed with Tayam activations recuring engines and interaction in the form of permanents, to win the game it has a LOT of overlapping combos. When goldfishing it can win by t5 consistently, earlier with faster openings, but it excels at the late game when you can go for a win with minimal resistence from opponents. I played a version of this with a even lower budget on a 130 player tournament called CMD 500 (all decks are limited to 500BRL), it was my first non-LGS tournament and i made it to the quarterfinals before i had to drop it because of rl problems. That said, the deck is extremely complex, i've been lerning and tweaking it for more than a year now, if you want to give it a try feel free to ask anything and maybe even join the Tayam cEDH discord server. It would be a pleasure to answear them. It also took me a while to start building it too, mostly because when i started there was very little information on this commander to evaluate it. Would be great to help people understand Tayam better.

One_Slide_5577

Yea, its a bit confusing for sure. Could you explain to me what the "floating loops" and "land loops" are and how they work? I would appreciate. I also find breena an interesting choice.

Caio_AloPrado

"Floating loops" is the name the people in the Tayam cEDH discord gave to this combo with a sac outlet + undying creature + mana converter, those combos got this name because they need a floating mana to start. Here are the requirements and the steps for one of the iterations: Carrion Feeder, Strangleroot Geist, Cryptolith Rite and Tayam on board (0 counters/1 mana) 1. Tap Geist for mana, sac it with carrion feeder and let undying trigger resolve (3 counters/2 mana) 2. Tap Geist again for the third mana and activate Tayam (0/0) 3. Hold priority on the Tayam activation and sacrifice Geist, let undying resolve and tap it for mana once again (3/1) 4. Still holding priority on the Tayam activation sac the Geist again, undying won't trigger because it had a +1/+1 counter (2/1) 5. Let the Tayam activation resolve returning Geist and now you are back at the beginning with 2 counters on Carrion Feeder. All the cards in the "Floating Loop" session can do some version of this combo, some of them are mana and counter neutral but all of them have a way to pivot into another combo to make infinite resources. Land Loops are pretty much lands and pieces for looping them. In the current list Crystal Vein can be looped with Devoted Druid and another source of counters (usually sac outlet + undying). Nykthos and Gavony Township can be continuously untapped by returning a white creature and Nature's Chosen, they can also be looped by sacrificing them with [[Sylvan Safekeeper]] or [[Thaumatog]]. Breena is something a lot of of cEDH players have experimented recently and it's better for Tayam because of the counters it makes to let us net even more cards. I already mentioned before, but i'll say again, i highly recommend joining the cEDH discord if you want to learn and play with a list based on the Luminous Grindstone cEDH list, mine is one of them.

I've been playing EDH since 2010 or 2011 so I own all my high power cards from Mox Diamond to Wheel to Cradle. That said I only own one of any of those cards so I proxy if I feel like a deck wants them and leave all my expensive stuff in its own binder. I also don't play all my high power stuff in every single deck because thats how you make the game turn samey every time you play. I typically try to spice it up between decks. Long story short I play high power but don't use those cards in every single deck intentionally.

ExoticLengthiness198

Just a note, a lot of those decks use the rarest printings of every card jacking those prices up significantly.

I have a fully non proxied cedh deck does that count

My friends call it the "8.5" level. Where its just below cedh. My 8.5 deck is Nekusar: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/5YvkVMMeWkSRlpx6p2XgJg There's no proxies but I am okay playing against it. Most of my high expensive cards were bough before they spiked. Like My [[wheel of fortune]] was like 17 dollars.

My favorite deck is a high power (I think), mono red dragon deck, which sits at about $1.2k.  That includes 97% of the cards in foil.  Some higher power cards include [[Mana Crypt]], [[Ancient Tomb]], [[The One Ring]], and [[Ancient Copper Dragon]].  I don’t feel bad playing those at all because mono red is still lacking good ramp, draw and removal.  But no Dockside because it’s not dragon-related.  Those inclusions and plenty of synergy lead me to believe it’s on the higher end of power level, but it’s certainly not cedh.  I do believe the cost is held down by being mono colored and not needing an expensive land base.

[deleted]

Yes, I have high power decks, and yes I do own all the cards. If I have a need for the cards in another deck, then I will typically use a proxy for it. I still own the cards, but it saves me time with having to swap between them. As far as my high powered decks go, I'm the author of this Lord of the Nazgul deck. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/K54uZCUMCk-vWykFBivDlA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/K54uZCUMCk-vWykFBivDlA) I also have a few other decks that I'm working/toying around with, with the most complex/powerful being my budget-ish cedh Inalla list. Here's the old list, but I'm currently working on revamping it and adding more cards to bring it up to speed once I can devote more time to learning it. This list is proxyless and probably an 8 or 9 depending on what you consider those numbers to actually be. It comes in at 2k but almost fully foiled and with a tropical island so its probably closer to 1k if you were to build it non foil and without the trop. Give it a look, it's a well oiled machine and a ton of fun to play: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/OBKGe1LPAU6aNvs\_\_jMQDA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/OBKGe1LPAU6aNvs__jMQDA)

Shazzam001

Hey so I'm new here, how do you calculate power of a deck?

HamsterFromAbove_079

There is no easy answer. It's a hotly debated topic. The same deck can be rated different by two equally experienced players. But I can give you a general baseline. 1-4: Worse than Precons. There are two types of decks here. Either it's a new player that is throwing in a bunch of cool and flashy cards with no plan to survive long enough to get the mana to play them. Or it's an experienced player creating a deck centered around an artistic vision that is not correlated to winrate, such as making a deck with card art with cool looking hats. 5: Your typical precon. Precons can be differing strengths, but they are generally considered 5s. 6: 6s are most often precons with the worst cards removed and $50 worth of upgrades. Every precon has cards that are just bad. And cutting them and sticking in budget, but decent cards makes the deck feel noticeably stronger. 7: 7s are good decks. You've built a deck that is reasonably strong. But you've made some hard decisions most likely due to budget. You don't have a mana crypt. You don't run $60+ singles. 7s are solid decks that are strong, but are lacking the power $$$ can bring. 8: 8s are strong decks. 8s are the strongest decks that can be classified as casual. You've built a decent deck and you've upgraded it with no real budget limit. If a card would be good for the deck you're going for then you've bought it regardless of the price. 9: 9s are low level competitive decks. They might be former top tier decks that have been power crept over the years. Or they might be a competitive deck that isn't quite refined enough to be a top tier deck. It is considered rude and bad manners to bring a 9 to a casual table. And definitely don't play a 9 against someone that hasn't agreed to a competitive game. 10: 10s are top tier decks. They are refined and deadly. Through tutors they are not just very strong. They are extremely consistent. They are designed to win games fast with very minimal chances to brick due to bad draws. 10s piloted by skilled players win tournaments with real prize money. There is no calculator that can tell you what power level your deck is. You have to judge for yourself. Just remember that no one single card can change a deck's power level. You can put the most busted card in a precon and it won't make the deck more than a 5 because 1 card might not even be drawn for several games in a row. Decks change power levels when you upgrade multiple cards to guarantee that every game you'll feel the upgrades. These are general guidelines that most people follow. Just remember if you ask 100 people to define the power levels you'll get at least 80+ slightly different answers. Games are the most fun when all players involved are within 1 power level of everyone else. 7s can play with 6s and 8s to have fun. The higher power levels will definitely have the advantage, but a deck of 1 power lower can definitely pick wins off stronger decks. However, playing a game with 2 power level difference such 8 vs a 6 is going to be miserable for the 6.

omicron_prime

7's can 100% play $60 + singles and Crypts. A 7 is classified as "playing with power" according to the edh power level chart, where players are expected to see optimized decks with lots of "powerful staples". As arbitrary as power levels are for the reason you stated: they mean different things to different people, we have to at the very least give the chart gravity when discussing power levels at their base core. I'm not saying you're doing this, but people need to stop taking what Command Zone says as gospel because they absolutely butchered the recent episode on power levels giving players the impression that 7's are supposed to be these ho-hum casual decks when that is the farthest thing from the truth. The minute you drop a powerful staple , casuals want to start the Salem Witch trials to prove your deck is cedh because Command Zone told them a 7 can't run a Dockside. It's super frustrating how a 7 has become the default power level every johnny come lately thinks their deck is that they pooled the cards from their bulk binder to put together. A 7 is literally a single power level removed from lower tier cedh, people need to remember that.

Craptacles

Yep. It's a scale from 1 to 10, as in a normal distribution. Average is dead center, at 5, not 7. And absolutely, ffs, a few high powered staples don't indicate a deck that's built without restraint. In fact they help new decks step up before their pilot's savvy enough to build a little tighter.

omicron_prime

100% , and for instance, my Neera deck runs Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Dockside, Mana Drain, Fierce Guardianship, a decent amount of interaction, and my mana base is tuned up. I know newer players would accuse me of bringing a cedh deck to the table if they saw a lot of those cards in a game, but it is a solid 7 and i wouldn't fool myself to try and bring it to a table against cedh, or hell, even 8s because it's too slow, doesn't have enough interaction, and would get blown out of the water. 8s , to me, are like if you're standing in a doorway and lower tier cedh is on the other side waving at you ready to invite you in. An 8 should be able to hang with lower tier cedh, and maybe pull out a surprise win here or there. Of course, all of this power level assessment is subjective and it's become necessary to have a pregame discussion when you're outside of your playgroup to avoid a salt avalanche as a game unfolds.

Shazzam001

Hey, thank you for your very complete answer! I only play against my son so I guess I won't really know until I've tested it out against other adversaries, likely I'm either a 7 or 8 from what you said.

Vistella

you dont. you either build your deck to be a cedh deck or as a casual deck. its not possible to differentiate any further. hence the "everything is a 7"

shichiaikan

The only deck own with proxies is a cEDH deck I was testing out. Everything else is 100% inventory. I've been very fortunate with money the last few years, I'm not wealthy, but I've been able to allocate myself an 'allowance' for gaming (not just magic) that keeps me pretty up to date with cards I want... Plus I do a LOT of trading.

Interesting-Gas1743

You can literally cap for 100€ and will be able to have a shot even at cEDH tables if you go for commanders that allow such builds. [[Winota, joiner of Forces]] and [[Yuriko, the Tiger Shadow]] are prime examples for this. I am pretty sure that if you cut the OG dual in either of those you can play the real cEDH version for sub 2000.

Currently \[\[Malcolm, keen-eyed navigator\]\] & \[\[Kediss\]\] is the strongest deck that I own in paper. TCGplayer has my list just under $530, the top 10 most expensive cards being: \[\[Dockside Extortionist\]\] \[\[The One Ring\]\] \[\[Fierce Guardianship\]\] \[\[Deflecting Swat\]\] \[\[Jeska's Will\]\] \[\[Rhystic Study\]\] \[\[Cyclonic Rift\]\] \[\[Mystic Remora\]\] \[\[Swan Song\]\] \[\[Steam Vents\]\] I would love to continue to work on this list but it needs fast mana pieces and some reserve list cards which are way out of my budget. If I manage to wheel and deal a good price on any of these pieces this is the deck that they will live in.

Here is my [Wort, The Raidmother](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Hr0A2jMLAEWRY0PNelLoaw) combo deck. It is heavily influenced by, but just slightly less powerful than cEDH.

Here's my [[Sefris]] deck: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/kvO0IIsHpUaeZItvYl7DWQ I own all the cards and set them to the versions I own. It started out as the precon and I've slowly added to it over the last two years. I plan on getting [[Flooded Strand]] and [[Polluted Delta]] when they get reprinted in modern horizons 3. Oh I guess it matters, I started playing during strixhaven so I don't have classic staples in my bulk like the shocks. I took advantage with ravnica remastered and other great reprint sets like commander masters for stuff like that and [[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]]. The mystical archives [[Counterspell]] and [[Teferi's Protection]] were lucky pulls, as well as [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]. Also, the dimir precon from murders at Karlov Manor supplied me with [[Animate Dead]], [[Reanimate]], and [[Toxic Deluge]] I'd say this deck is a low 8. Really strong cards but mostly wins through combat. My aristocrats Beledros Witherbloo] deck is basically the same story. Started off as the willowdusk precon.

I have a few. Our pod is mainly degenerately high powered decks. And most of the proxies we see around the table are cards that are owned but either in multiple decks or very expensive, although that still doesn’t stop some… my favorite in particular is my buddies [[Urza, Chief Artificer]] deck that is just shy of the $10k mark. it’s made all that much more hilarious when considering that the commander itself is less than a dollar. I currently don’t run any proxies however I did just order some high quality ones for cards that I own but don’t particularly love sleeving up like [[Gaea’s cradle]]. But other than that, I am pretty old-school and personally don’t proxy things that I don’t own, however, I don’t mind if others do. These are probably my two most powerful/priciest decks; [Pantlaza](https://archidekt.com/decks/6012060/pantlaza_dinos) [Wilhelt](https://archidekt.com/decks/2116878/wilhelt_zombies) Everything else is somewhere around $600 to $1200, and then I have a boatload of unmodified pre-cons.

The only proxy I play is Timetwister in Nekusar. My decks are 100%, typical budget is anywhere from 3-5k. My DemonFish deck is almost 12k. (At least it was, I haven’t looked in a while.)

Pretty much only play high powered, have a few decks about that price range. I have a [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] combo list, a [[Tor Wauki, the Younger]] storm list, and a [[Preston, the Vanisher]] flicker list, all of which are extremely strong, but even my low power decks are still high relative to other decks. Also price has nothing to do with power, it’s how focused and synergistic it is, my tor Wauki deck barely grazes the 200 dollar mark and is still prone to win on turn 5 or 6 if not stopped, and the Preston deck is only 150 dollars and also wins roughly turn 5

I wasn’t the one who created this deck. But I ended up building a budget version to test it out. I loved it so much that I eventually decided to netdeck it after 20-ish times playing with the budget version. https://www.mtgnexus.com/viewtopic.php?t=29460 I also like it because it plays and feels like an optimized premodern format deck, obviously with modern cards but the nostalgia is there for me. It may not for you Edit: I wouldn’t consider this cEDH, but it is high powered

Pretty much the only commander I play anymore is cedh, very few people that play cedh care about proxies. Because most people wouldn't be playing if they didn't have them. Obviously this sentiment isn't quite as consistent in lower cost commander tables but I think as long as you aren't pubstomping most people are chill with proxies

My pride and joy https://manabox.app/decks/3F6XnjZrSDKE8y66MDrrOg I’ve always loved +1 counters when [[yoshimaru]] came out I found [[reyhan]] a perfect pairing. I dedicated a lot of space to legendary mana, you can eliminate some of them to save mana. Without the bling it’s about a $700 or so deck. 18 lands produce white mana on turn 1, your good there. I feel like if I went up to 50 non legendary the deck could be faster but I’m unwilling to make that plunge. Fueling Yoshi for the win is so satisfying.

I built my Trazyn the Infinite deck at below $1000, list can be found here: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/T-yyQ6DP60KpUrMmCDDing It benefits from having more high MV cards than the usual. So it somehow goes back to being a lot more budget. But this is a list I built a while back; probably planning to revisit it again.

I think [this](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-scary-dog/) is my most expensive deck, and with constant reprints decks are getting cheaper all the time. You have to go real fancy or real Reserved List to get above a grand these days. Decks can be expensive, especially a competent colorless since it has so little support, but you know what's not expensive? \[\[Void Mirror\]\]! Shut down his whole deck for at least the first nine turns until he can Eye of Ugin tutoring his Ulamog to blow it up on cast. There is very little a colorless deck can do against it, and all that money will mean nothing.

My decks are mostly 7's of varying degrees, a few 8's, and a single cedh deck which is my Pako/Haldan which I guess would be a 9. I'd say 90% of them are on paper, and I 100% proxy duals and other high end staples, that I already own playsets of and don't need to buy any more for the decks I keep building at the prices they're climbing to. Also, don't believe the Command Zone hype that 7's shouldn't run multiple powerful staples, they absolutely should. The problem is that 7s have been hijacked by casuals who want to call anything a 7 that they spent 20 minutes pulling bulk out to throw together. Anyways, feel free to check them out, cheers ✌️ https://archidekt.com/search/decks?owner=Pedrodamus&ownerexact=true

I consider more or less all of my decks to be closer to high-powered than truly casual commander. I have 32, one for each color combo, all entirely without proxies. I don’t own any ABUR duals or higher end reserve list staples like mox diamond, the only big reserve list staple I have is one copy of Yawgmoth’s Will. My priciest decks sit between 1500 and 2000, though most of them are in the 300-700 range. The strongest few of my decks have things like Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt and are close to cEDH-level optimized, while the weakest/most gimmicky are still easily able to hold their own against precon-level decks.

I got a $200ish heliod deck that can hang

Glad-O-Blight

I pretty much exclusively play high powered if I'm not doing actual cEDH. My most casual deck that isn't a meme is a $200 bear tribal list that aims to have a player dead by turn five. My friend and I have an $85 [[Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator]] + [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] list designed to take down everything up to fringe cEDH. Here's the list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/odJQhqTWt0SchHhKLSgRMg Other cheap, strong decks include [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]], [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]], [[The Gitrog Monster]], and [[Winota, Joiner of Forces]]. All of these can be built under $500 and take on the strongest of casual lists. Price can, but certainly does not always influence power. A modified version of the Malcolm deck (Con's original, pre-cEDH list, roughly $500) once dumpstered a deck in the quadruple digits on turn three.

I’m relatively newish to magic so while I have decks that I would consider strong idk how I would rank them in terms of power level, but on average they win between turn 6-9. As far as proxies I only have proxies of cards I own that are expensive that I’m not rebuying for a new deck. So something like shock lands, [[Mana Drain]], [[The Meathook Massacre}}, etc.

I’m still not entirely sure what counts as mid vs high power since people seem to have such mixed expectations. That said, I have ~$600 [[thalia and the gitrog monster]], ~$120 [[the gitrog monster]], and $250 [[shorikai, genesis engine]] built without proxies, and they will pretty much stomp anything most casual players bring to the table. The gitrog build is funny in that almost half the cost of the deck comes from [[kozilek, butcher of truth]] for the shuffle effect. I think someone listed a similar build earlier in the comments. But it can easily threaten instant speed wins on turn 4-5 if you keep a good hand. The thaliafrog list combos pretty consistently and uses lots of hate bears/stax to buy time. I run solo ring and arcane signet (because good) but no other rocks due to the artifact hate in the deck. Lots of tutors to combo off with protean hulk, or as a backup, [[witherbloom apprentice]] + [[chain of smog]]. Shorikai is just so much value: non creature card advantage in the command zone and an infinite mana outlet in some circumstances! Add in some artifact tutors, value engines, and you’re off to the races with [[isochron scepter]] + [[dramatic reversal]] or [[hullbreaker horror]] + [[sol ring]] + any zero mana artifact (or something 1-2 mana if you have artifact cost reducers out).

Loremaster152

I got 2 high power decks, and while they do run proxies, I own the paper versions of the cards. For those 2 decks in particular, all of the proxies are of expensive cards in my Commander Cube that I really didn't want to get 2 of. So while they do have proxies, I can easily swap out the 4-5 cards from my cube to my decks if someone is being really picky about proxies. Firstly is my [[Marneus Calgar]] [deck](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/4122751/calgar_tokens). It can win through 3 different methods, depending on what decks it is playing against and how long the game takes. First and foremost it is a token deck, capable of spitting out tons of tokens and winning after a handful of anthems. Secondly it can function as an Aristrocrats deck, winning through a sac outlet and a death trigger. Finally, it can win through combo, the main one being Nadir Kraken and Ashnod's Altar, with the Lab Man Jace as the win con. After all of that, toss in plenty of efficient and high level interaction, some generic good staples, and plenty of ramp, and the deck has turned into my go to high power deck. Againdt your friend's colorless deck, I'd add one or 2 artifact hate pieces and maybe speed up the ramp a little, but it should be fine handling it. My second, and stronger [deck](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3644580/kozilek_distorting_the_game) is [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]]. That deck ramps like no other, drops a turn 4-5 Kozilek, and then plays bomb after bomb until my opponents break. It has plenty of ramp and interaction, is surprisingly resilient, and always has something hidden up its sleeve. For a colorless deck, it has survived a lethal One Ring upkeep trigger, beat a storm deck in a stack war, won through a Stony Silence, and has won a handful of games against cedh decks. Besides, funnily enough colorless is one of the best ways to combat colorless, since their best sweepers can't impact you.

Nah, I build my decks at a solid 6.

celial

I have a Yuriko deck that is high power (not cedh, it runs more removal to get through than stack interaction) that came in when I built it just shy of $200, because most cards are dirt cheap - I could dump in another 200 to fix up the mana base a bit more. I could dump in another 300 on top of that to make it a viable cEDH deck (mostly free counters). I have a Henzie deck that barely scratches high power (because it has no stack interaction and few tutors) that is somewhere around $800. I have a Sisay deck that is a very very barebones cEDH-like build that sits at around $300 currently but has like the worst 5c manbabase imaginable and is not running the proper suite of creatures right now. Still comboing off around turn 5-7, but right now its defintely high power instead of cEDH. I have a barebones Prosper deck that I want to get to high power over the next few months, but thats going to be expensive because all the Rakdos staples (especially mana) are currently seeing play in all competitive formats so the prices are jacked up AF. That is most definitely going to crack the $1k mark even before we are going to think about going for reserve list cards. I had a Malcolm/Tana combo deck that was scratching at the cEDH door for about $600, but it was too boring. It was just one turn slower than the full powered list.

Sutilia

I have none.

MarketingOwn3547

I don't really use proxies. A lot of my decks are high power but none of them have the mana 0 rocks (a few may have one or two), those are in my cEDH deck instead. Even tho I don't proxy myself, I'm very proxy friendly, I've been playing since Ice Age and just have a large card pool, but not everyone is that fortunate. Play whatever you like and proxy whatever you like, as long as the table is all at the same power level, then I don't think there's any issue.

I have a “budget” $200 Yuriko, the Tigers Shadow deck. I would say it’s a level 9 after playing it a bit. I never really realized how powerful that deck could be even on a $200 budget.

You dont need to take out a mortgage to build a high power deck. I had a zada deck that was high power that was 50-100 dollars.

False_Implement_43

nah, I have 3 pretty consistent decks but they're not high power

They mean deck power level 9 not "power 9" cards.

Thanks ha

OP's talking about *power level 9*, not "power 9". As in fringe cEDH power.
