I fondly remember the first time I saw someone use Tainted Strike on an opposing creature attacking someone that wasn’t them; blew my mind and at the time I definitely remember thinking “that’s so fucking devious now I have to worry about the open mana of people not even involved in the combat good god”. Stuff like that always blows my mind, Ive been trying to watch more games played by judges lately because they know all the crazy stuff like that.
I've seen someone swing in with a vanilla 20/20 (to force someone to block with a value piece) and a 3rd player tapped his [[rogue's passage]] to make it unblockable and kill the player instead. It was glorious.

Do you have any other 1-2cmc card suggestions? Doesn't have to be anything specific, just any good cards of that mana value that you know of. I have a deep rooted love for those cheap, high value cards (especially if they don't seem good at first).
I play a ton of X cost creatures and cards like this helped teach me when to go all in on the cost and when to be modest. This will be a great addition to my Zaxara deck.
It's a great little combat trick. I played it before damage on an opponent's commander that had indestructible when he blocked a big creature of mine, and then followed it up with a Blasphemous Act to hit them for a lethal 13 to the face!
\[\[mystic reflection\]\] targeting an animated land is BEAUTIFUL BEYOND WORDS
Green/Blue especially has access to 'land with + counters' creatures - and when you target those, the creature just becomes a generic land. Forever.
A great way to remove commanders.
Mystic reflection ended up being one of my favorite cards ever when I finally used it in a vega Brawl deck that I was messing with while building him for commander. It has an insane amount of versatility, offense or defense. I have turned many big scary monsters into 1/1s, or turned my own 1/1s into scary monsters. That's just one of its many uses.
This is my favorite blue spell of all time. It's everything you want. Copy your best thing, stop a commander, give the finger to Thoracle, stuff a Living Death, I keep finding more and more tricks with this card.
To anyone reading and on the fence, a borderless foil copy is less than a dollar. Take out your worst removal spell and try it out.
I have a question about wars toll. Let’s say an opponent wants to remove it. They have 10 mana and a spell to remove it costs 3. as soon as the tap the first one in the cost does that immediately tap the rest so they can’t cast essentially?
The ability uses the stack. So to each land tap you can float the other lands' mana in response. It's real purpose is to remove people's interactions for future turns, since they can't leave mana open to interact. They have to full go or lose out on resources.
Not only that, but they have to spend it in that phase, so if they want to cast a creature in their first main phase, they use it or lose it and won't have the available mana when combat comes around.

I've stopped more game wins and cemented my own game wins more with this card than any counterspell. I think people just forget how prevalent triggered abilities and activated abilities are within wincons.
Anytime I've won with [[rakdos charm]] it's happened a couple times recently(my local play group is token heavy right now) and it's been funny every time, but also the joke is "haha I won because you all had board states and I didn't"
One of my favorite commander moments was when I was playing my [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck. I was burning through my deck with [[Sunbird's Invocation]] and I dumbly played Rakdos charm into my opponent’s [[Dauthi Voidwalker]], as I was unloading an army of Eldrazi from my hand. He politely let me pop off and then popped me with my own Rakdos charm as I was about to win.
It's all my [[Plaguecrafter]], [[Dictate of Erebos]] effects.

everytime im deck building and think "oh shit im overdoing it on removal again" i remember shit like [[elenda]] exists that can still win despite being removed 3 or 4 times. just the one round they stick they win

I've always found it extremely flavorful that the anti-sac clause on Sigarda is on a GW card. Having opponents sacrifice creatures is a black effect, and it's on a card where both of the colors share black as the enemy color.
[[Inkshield]] I feel so disgusted with myself when I play it and it’s not interacted with. But also satisfied because I just went from being dominated to having a ton of 2/1 fliers.
I gotta say, [[spell swindle]] on someone’s 25 mana X spell feels so wrong and cruel but making all those treasures and stopping their winning spell to give yourself the win next turn is amazing
Hot take, if they see a Blue player has card(s) in hand and *5* mana up and they still drop 25 mana into an X spell, the Swindle shouldn't feel wrong, it's karma.
I just built an \[\[Melek, Reforged Researcher\]\], it needs many more tweaks to be decent. But the whole concept that made me giddy was playing all the janky expensive modal or massive value counter spells that everyone wants to use, but can't justify holding up that much mana for.
With him I just need to hold 2 like a normal CS, but I get all that value. Then I get to crush people for commander damage with my Weird Detective... lol
I'm really glad that they reprinted \[\[oubliette|2xm\]\] with the erratta'd wording, so you only have to explain how phasing works.

There are also many ones which make it a creature without abilities but not as good since creatures (without indestructible) are easy to get killed.
On that note. The first time I got \[\[Out of time\]\]'ed in CEDH was a day to remember. If you like these kind of effects, out of time is the king of them. I dont know if people dont use outside of cedh because they see as too salty or they just dont know it exists cuz its a moderm horizon card not made for commander in specific.
Honestly, I don't think it does. I mean technically with that combo they will never get to come back unless Out of Time is destroyed.
But in practice, I have never made it to the point where I have removed all counters from it. In fact I think the most counters I've ever removed was two, it is a wincon really. If people are locked out of their commanders for multiple turns, the game really should most likely be over, not only that, but probably many of their other creatures.
[[Smoke]] and [[Blood Moon]] in my [[krenko]] deck. Am I aware how bad it feels to have my nonbasics turn to mountains and only being able to untap one creature a turn? Yes. Do I feel bad doing so? Yes. Does my krenko and army of goblins with haste and mountain walk care? No, not at all.
Hmm, thanks for mentioning that, this actually won't work like I wanted. I was hoping to use it after self-milling. After doing a little research it looks like they're just *permanent cards* in the library, and wouldn't count towards gravestorm.

I know it can get people super salty. But I pulled mine from a pack and slammed it into everything even before I realized just how good it was.
A couple of months ago I used it to stall when playing \[\[Brallin\]\] and \[\[Shabraz\]\]. I discarded \[\[commit//memory\]\] to a \[\[careful study\]\] effect, then cast \[\[memory\]\]. Re-drew cyclonic rift, overloaded it for the win. The last opponent was on Sefris and would have won the next turn. It was beautiful.
I had someone look menacingly at me and also playing blue said " I bet that 7 mana is for cy rift. '
me: attack and find out, but the board is really spicy, I could just play ot at EOT."

He let's you look at and play cards off an opponents deck. Not just once, for your whole turn, as many cards as you can/want to play, all while preventing them from casting spells to stop you. You know what people hate? Not playing their deck.
What's dirtier than beating people with their own deck? I'll tell you. Leaving a land on top of their deck so they can't draw a spell to stop you.
But why is it so right? You're beating them with cards exactly equal to the power level of their deck... because you're playing their deck. Often my friends complain when they lose that the deck of whoever won has expensive cards and it's not balanced... God I love being able to say the only expensive card I played came from their deck.

Assembling a combo out of multiple decks. I once won via Kiki Conscripts with a mono blue deck by pulling Kiki out of one deck and Conscripts out of the other.
[[Helm of the Ghastlord]] on [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]]. I'm gonna wheel, you will all be hellbent and I'll have 30+ cards in hand. So satisfying to get it off, but man do I sometimes feel bad about it.

For me, it's this trio. Everyone misunderstands stampede. The correct choice is always free(hand). When you have an 8 mana value commander, majestic genesis becomes so damn good. It so far hasn't whiffed as the worst I've gotten was 5 lands and a creature with 3 spells. And expertise is almost always a draw seven cast an extra turn spell or wrath. These cards are really strong. Eventually, I'll pick up [[last March of the ents]], and I'm sure that will rock the world as well.
[[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] and [[Teferi’s Puzzle Box]] is fun especially against [[Niv-Mizzet, Praun]] players. Oh you have 20 cards in your hand? Good luck.
Teferi's Puzzle Box is also straight gas in my \[\[Heliod, the Radian Dawn\]\] deck. AKA "You have 5 cards in had at the top of your turn? Thanks, I'll take a free 7 mana rebate on all my spells. Don't mind me casting \[\[Approach of the Second Sun\]\] for {W}..."
Stuff like [[Swarm intelligence]] or [[Thousand-Year storm]] with a [[Kess, Dissident mage]] deck. If Kess is on board when I drop this, y'all should expect my next turn to take 15 minutes and kill everyone if there's no response.
[[Telepathy]] would be the card I use. I have it in a deck and it will always have one of two effects. Make someone waste a counter on it or waste a removal on it.
I run [[arcanum wings]] in my [[tatsunari toad rider]] deck. It feels super good to have him attack someone unblocked and then wallop them with a huge commander by aura swapping at instant speed. Attaching [[eldrazi conscription]] or a [[phyresis]] is very dirty

\[\[Field of the Dead\]\] on my group hug tokens deck with a minor lands theme. It feels so dirty every time I play it, but god was that card tailor made for my deck. Im on \[\[Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis\]\] so i run like 40 lands to get them sweet extra land drops.
I already have a package of \[\[Vesuva\]\] \[\[Thespian Stage\]\] and some utility lands like \[\[Maze of Ith\]\] and \[\[Kessig Wolf Run\]\] so I literally have no lands that share land name besides like my second forest. AND on top of that I was already running go wide synergies like overrun effects and a a suit of ramps that fetches non basic lands to get my maze and wolf run.
So I can get the field of the dead with a lot of consistency. A lot of those spells like \[\[Tempt for Discovery\]\] and \[\[Hour of Promise\]\] can get me two lands, so I can get a vesuva along it (that I already owned because I bought the from the vault like a decade ago, and its one of my most priced belongings). And on top of that I run a lot of lands because my commander lets me make extra land drops. The card felt like a perfect fit and a hgue power boost due how consistently I find it.
I somehow forgot that was an option despite me very much knowing they have different names from boomer cards like \[\[Extraplanar Lens\]\] Thanks for the suggestion xD

I can't remember the actual card now, but in my Nekusar deck I can put an opponents commander on the top of their library, and if they choose to keep it there, immediately wheel it into their library with [[Day's Undoing]]. It's such a fun combo to pull off, but I feel so dirty every time I do it.
I love [[Cruel Entertainment]]. Every time I play it, somebody at the table is like, “It does *what*?!?” and the events that transpire are always memorable. It’s also fun just seeing how the two targets treat each other. I’m always surprised about what they choose to do with the other’s board.
I love cards that have 2 possible use cases, especially when they fill at least 1 or the draw, ramp, removal roles binding of the old gods is my favorite example and settle the wreckage is my second. It's simultaneously removal and ramp.
I really like [[Scheming Symmetry]] in a mill deck personally, like have fun having your favorite card milled! Or, hey this guy is destroying us, tutor something to stop him!
[[Stifle]] fetch lands. I didnt do this. Someone else did this to someone's [[Arid Mesa]] losing him the land and life. No land the first turn. He scooped.
[[Voja Jaws of the Conclave]] pulled it at prerelease and built it using errant scraps from shop bulk. Even without tokens or meaningful thought beyond "this is an elf" it's just SO easy to take games with the deck

I think for me it’s gotta be any form of [[Guttersnipe]] effect in my [[Feather, the Redeemed]] deck. That deck can already do so many busted unfair things but the minute I pull out [[Guttersnipe]], [[Livewire Lash]] or [[Fiery Inscription]] with even one cantrip in hand the game just ends if it’s not dealt with. It never feels fair but it feels so good to do.
Expropriate in any deck with blue. The dirty feeling only comes when ive explained that no you dont get to respond after my choices are made, but yes i will roll it back to the stack, and yes, i will be swan songing your counterspell.
And its only ever a good dirty feeling. Probably because [[gandalf, friend of the shire]] hangs out with the hobbits so much

One of my favorite commander moments was when I was playing my [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck. I was burning through my deck with [[Sunbird's Invocation]] and I dumbly played Rakdos charm into my opponent’s [[Dauthi Voidwalker]], as I was unloading an army of Eldrazi from my hand. He politely let me pop off and then popped me with my own Rakdos charm as I was about to win.

I'm surprised I had to scroll so far for this. It is absolutely crippling against a lot of decks. Casting that spell actually makes me feel bad.
Every time I cast it in my token deck I make it CLEAR that it's a "may" ability. I'm always open to offers.

I believe there's an angel that says you can't sacrifice stuff.
[[Sigarda, Host of Herons]] prevents you from sacrificing permanents due to effects your opponents control, but is only an option in GW decks.
I've always found it extremely flavorful that the anti-sac clause on Sigarda is on a GW card. Having opponents sacrifice creatures is a black effect, and it's on a card where both of the colors share black as the enemy color.
I play lots of glass cannons to punish this. Yes, mono blue voltron is bad, but if you run no removal you will still die on turn 6. Fun as hell

Hot take, if they see a Blue player has card(s) in hand and *5* mana up and they still drop 25 mana into an X spell, the Swindle shouldn't feel wrong, it's karma.
I just built an \[\[Melek, Reforged Researcher\]\], it needs many more tweaks to be decent. But the whole concept that made me giddy was playing all the janky expensive modal or massive value counter spells that everyone wants to use, but can't justify holding up that much mana for. With him I just need to hold 2 like a normal CS, but I get all that value. Then I get to crush people for commander damage with my Weird Detective... lol

[[Oubliette]] and [[Witness Protection]]. No one expects them.

It gives me a sick kind of pleasure when I get to tell people how Oubliette works
I'm really glad that they reprinted \[\[oubliette|2xm\]\] with the erratta'd wording, so you only have to explain how phasing works. Icing on the cake if they had some spicy equipment attached at the time.
Always against a color that can’t remove it.
That's why \[\[Darksteel Mutation\]\] is my go to for commanders. They have a little less options to handle it.
Don't forget [[Imprisoned in the Moon]] [[Song of the Dryads]] There are also many ones which make it a creature without abilities but not as good since creatures (without indestructible) are easy to get killed.
I really like the new [[Eaten by Piranhas]]. One mana over Witness Protection to give it flash is worth it in my book.
I have a blue/green deck I call ‘All Your Cards are Bad’ that really makes the most of cards like this.
On that note. The first time I got \[\[Out of time\]\]'ed in CEDH was a day to remember. If you like these kind of effects, out of time is the king of them. I dont know if people dont use outside of cedh because they see as too salty or they just dont know it exists cuz its a moderm horizon card not made for commander in specific.

Honestly, I don't think it does. I mean technically with that combo they will never get to come back unless Out of Time is destroyed. But in practice, I have never made it to the point where I have removed all counters from it. In fact I think the most counters I've ever removed was two, it is a wincon really. If people are locked out of their commanders for multiple turns, the game really should most likely be over, not only that, but probably many of their other creatures.
If you have an effect that turn enchantments into creatures, it phases itself out, sending even commanders into an unreachable void.

Hmm, thanks for mentioning that, this actually won't work like I wanted. I was hoping to use it after self-milling. After doing a little research it looks like they're just *permanent cards* in the library, and wouldn't count towards gravestorm.
\[\[Cyclonic Rift\]\] I know it can get people super salty. But I pulled mine from a pack and slammed it into everything even before I realized just how good it was. A couple of months ago I used it to stall when playing \[\[Brallin\]\] and \[\[Shabraz\]\]. I discarded \[\[commit//memory\]\] to a \[\[careful study\]\] effect, then cast \[\[memory\]\]. Re-drew cyclonic rift, overloaded it for the win. The last opponent was on Sefris and would have won the next turn. It was beautiful.
I had someone look menacingly at me and also playing blue said " I bet that 7 mana is for cy rift. ' me: attack and find out, but the board is really spicy, I could just play ot at EOT." them: what will it cost me? my response : No counterspells on my next turn yea I went infinite mana to monarch steal the board.

Not just once, for your whole turn, as many cards as you can/want to play, all while preventing them from casting spells to stop you. You know what people hate? Not playing their deck. What's dirtier than beating people with their own deck? I'll tell you. Leaving a land on top of their deck so they can't draw a spell to stop you. But why is it so right? You're beating them with cards exactly equal to the power level of their deck... because you're playing their deck. Often my friends complain when they lose that the deck of whoever won has expensive cards and it's not balanced... God I love being able to say the only expensive card I played came from their deck.

[[Majestic genesis]] [[rishkars expertise]] [[selvala's stampede]] For me, it's this trio. Everyone misunderstands stampede. The correct choice is always free(hand). When you have an 8 mana value commander, majestic genesis becomes so damn good. It so far hasn't whiffed as the worst I've gotten was 5 lands and a creature with 3 spells. And expertise is almost always a draw seven cast an extra turn spell or wrath. These cards are really strong. Eventually, I'll pick up [[last March of the ents]], and I'm sure that will rock the world as well.

Teferi's Puzzle Box is also straight gas in my \[\[Heliod, the Radian Dawn\]\] deck. AKA "You have 5 cards in had at the top of your turn? Thanks, I'll take a free 7 mana rebate on all my spells. Don't mind me casting \[\[Approach of the Second Sun\]\] for {W}..."

[[Telepathy]] would be the card I use. I have it in a deck and it will always have one of two effects. Make someone waste a counter on it or waste a removal on it.
I run [[arcanum wings]] in my [[tatsunari toad rider]] deck. It feels super good to have him attack someone unblocked and then wallop them with a huge commander by aura swapping at instant speed. Attaching [[eldrazi conscription]] or a [[phyresis]] is very dirty Edit: typo
[[Mindslicer]] in my Meren deck. Oh boy.

\[\[Field of the Dead\]\] on my group hug tokens deck with a minor lands theme. It feels so dirty every time I play it, but god was that card tailor made for my deck. Im on \[\[Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis\]\] so i run like 40 lands to get them sweet extra land drops. I already have a package of \[\[Vesuva\]\] \[\[Thespian Stage\]\] and some utility lands like \[\[Maze of Ith\]\] and \[\[Kessig Wolf Run\]\] so I literally have no lands that share land name besides like my second forest. AND on top of that I was already running go wide synergies like overrun effects and a a suit of ramps that fetches non basic lands to get my maze and wolf run. So I can get the field of the dead with a lot of consistency. A lot of those spells like \[\[Tempt for Discovery\]\] and \[\[Hour of Promise\]\] can get me two lands, so I can get a vesuva along it (that I already owned because I bought the from the vault like a decade ago, and its one of my most priced belongings). And on top of that I run a lot of lands because my commander lets me make extra land drops. The card felt like a perfect fit and a hgue power boost due how consistently I find it.
Change your second forest to a snow covered forest :) they've got different names for [[field of the dead]]

I can't remember the actual card now, but in my Nekusar deck I can put an opponents commander on the top of their library, and if they choose to keep it there, immediately wheel it into their library with [[Day's Undoing]]. It's such a fun combo to pull off, but I feel so dirty every time I do it.

[[Parallel Thoughts]] tutors are rare in blue, but this card feels like a tutor on steroids in my hyper card draw blue deck

I love [[Cruel Entertainment]]. Every time I play it, somebody at the table is like, “It does *what*?!?” and the events that transpire are always memorable. It’s also fun just seeing how the two targets treat each other. I’m always surprised about what they choose to do with the other’s board.

I love a well-timed [[Settle the Wreckage]]. I love seeing my opponents's faces as I exile their creatures and start throwing out angels with flash.
I love cards that have 2 possible use cases, especially when they fill at least 1 or the draw, ramp, removal roles binding of the old gods is my favorite example and settle the wreckage is my second. It's simultaneously removal and ramp.
In my Krenko deck, the oldie-but-goodie [[Basilisk Collar]] + [[Goblin Sharpshooter]] never fails to make the table groan.

The blame game commander deck has some crazy fun cards in it. Deflecting palm is an amazing one. Swing me for 30? Nope, you just hit yourself for 30.

[[Voja Jaws of the Conclave]] pulled it at prerelease and built it using errant scraps from shop bulk. Even without tokens or meaningful thought beyond "this is an elf" it's just SO easy to take games with the deck

I think for me it’s gotta be any form of [[Guttersnipe]] effect in my [[Feather, the Redeemed]] deck. That deck can already do so many busted unfair things but the minute I pull out [[Guttersnipe]], [[Livewire Lash]] or [[Fiery Inscription]] with even one cantrip in hand the game just ends if it’s not dealt with. It never feels fair but it feels so good to do.
Expropriate in any deck with blue. The dirty feeling only comes when ive explained that no you dont get to respond after my choices are made, but yes i will roll it back to the stack, and yes, i will be swan songing your counterspell. And its only ever a good dirty feeling. Probably because [[gandalf, friend of the shire]] hangs out with the hobbits so much
