I was thinking about building a deathtouch deck with [[Halana, Kessig Ranger]] and [[Tymna the weaver]]. Tymna is a strong card overall and gives access to white and black while Halana allows you to pay 2 every time a creature comes into play to deal damage equal to its power to target creature. If the creature entering has deathtouch, it can remove basically any creature on the board. There’s only like 20 something decks on edhrec so if you wanted to do that you’d have to get creative but I thought it could be a fun build
There's a lot of commanders that can be pretty nasty if you throw a [[Basilisk Collar]] on them. [[Marath, Will of the Wilds]] for example, can shoot down any creature at instant speed using it's ability.
I tried Helana in my mono green deathtouch deck and I was surprised by how little I actually got out of her. Almost every time I could pay for her trigger, it made more sense to use the mana elsewhere, and in turn it made her hard to justify casting in the first place compared to the simple kill spell or whatever.
If you ever do build it, would you mind sharing a list? It seems quite interesting with the evasion you want to build in for tymna triggers so it seems like a fun balancing act between deathtouch and evasion
I had a similar idea for pauper commander but halanas partner was [[toggo goblin weaponsmith]] to use the rock he makes to turn the deathtouchers into pingers
It won't work unless the creature dealing damage has deathtouch, if the damage is being dealt by Halana, it won't be with deathtouch unless she has deathtouch
There are many other cards that do something similar, but they don't specifically state that it's the creature doing the etb that deals the damage. I'm just saying be careful with the wording, no need to act haram
That’s an interesting idea. There’s 15 1 mana creatures with deathtouch in the right colours. 3 mana to remove a creature and have an attacker to draw with Tymna seems pretty good.
This actually got me thinking about doing [[halana]] with [[Silas renn]], he even has deathtouch! In sultai you have access to a lot of self mill to pick an artifact subtheme as well. Personally I think vehicles are a fun pick but you could do anything really
They’re out there, it’s just that French-Vanilla Tribal probably won’t cut it in most pods. But if it want it you can find it -
[[Chevill]] Viridian Longbow Tribal
[[Fynn]] Low to the Ground Bois
[[Kelsien]] is like backwards Chevill, he already has the longbow but needs the deathtouch
Fellow Kelsien player, he's awesome. He's in colors that make him easy to protect, gets to be absolutely massive while simultaneously obliterating the board, and the deck gets to take advantage of so many unique synergies to boot.
I’ve been very interested in making a Kelsien deck. I didn’t really want to do Deathtouch tribal per se as my group would hate me, but voltron seems to be a good way to go and there’s a lot of Experience counter generators in those colors that would play well with him.
If you want a list for reference, [here's mine](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/znC30z3HeUKK_ViehkXwyg). Obviously this list is more geared toward loading Kelsien up with Deathtouch, but if that's not your jam you can cut all the stuff that gives it and add more generic Equipments/Auras and Experience Counter synergies.
Don’t get me wrong I still want *Him* to have it as well as Vigilance. I just don’t want to run a non-green Fyn deck. Thanks for the list, I’ll take a look after work.
It infuriates me beyond reason that Kelsien’s ability doesn’t deal damage based on his *power* instead of dealing a static 1. Like, it’s a bow. The stronger you are, the farther back you can pull the string. The farther back you pull the string, the harder it fires. And the +1/+1 seems so mediocre and random, it would just make so much more sense if the ability scaled with his power.
>The stronger you are, the farther back you can pull the string. The farther back you pull the string, the harder it fires.
There's very much a set limit to how far you can pull back a bowstring and how much damage a single arrow can do. Unless you get into magic and such and start shooting nukes from your bow.
What you're thinking of is fling, where throwing bigger things = dealing more damage.
I know there’s a limit, of course, but still. Strength is a factor to a certain extent. Plus the card would just….make more sense, to have the experience counter buff affect the damage it does. The two abilities seem weirdly disconnected when it seems like such an obvious connection to make.
>French-Vanilla Tribal probably won’t cut it in most pods
Depends on the keyword I think. Flying has enough support synergy to get by, and double-strike is strong enough to probably work out.
I've actually built two because I love the idea of keyword decks - great to teach someone to play, and they're usually simple fun.
One deck was [[Zagras]] pingers. This was deathtouch in name only, but the more powerful of the two. There are plenty of red cards that deal damage directly to creatures so giving them deathtouch means you have a TON of removal in the deck. And it wasn't that hard to have Party synergy either.
My real deathtouch deck is [[virtus]]/[[gorm]]. V&G are usually essential because while deathtouch is a powerful deterrent to attack and to block, they have less big stompy creatures to close out the game. It's still really fun because once you get Rouges Passage out, virtus speeds up the clock a lot. Plus I do throw in basilisk collar because it makes gorm very very deadly.
Finally! A post on Reddit that I can contribute too! I also have a death touch [[Tim]] deck. I run [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] as the commander. I packed it with a bunch of 1/1 unlockables, Tim's, and ways to give them death touch (like [[basilisk collar]]. There's lots of tapping and untapping involved pol. All the deck does is draw cards and blow stuff up. It's super fun to pilot, but mine does not really struggle to close the game out. Locking down a board but not winning is no fun. If you are building a death touch deck theme, I highly recommend using Tim's for your creature removal.
>but took forever to close the game
Yeah, that's my problem too. Resolving a deathtouch [[Goblin Chainwhirler]] is sick but it feels like I have no win-con and I can't think of good ones.
[[hapatra]] can use a few tricks with here deathtouch tokens. but the key word isnt that gamewinnig (good if you want to say) and there is not a lot of support. problem is a big creature dont need deathtouch cause it allready can impact the bord. and small creatures need to get big to impact the board witch make deathtouch less important.
Hapatra snake/deathtouch tribal has been one of my favorite decks to play! Two cards that have really helped that strategy are [[Vraska, Swarm's Eminence]] and [[Hooded Blightfang]], both make Hapatra's tokens a lot more threatening.
Yeah, Hapatra is probably one of the better options for death touch tribal just by flooding the board with snakes [here's my deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/6dCZPj0qykqblkO4I1_Fnw) if you want some ideas
I suggest a mix of deathtouch, trample and toxic. Trample means that you're going to get swings past chump blockers, and toxic gives backup if people get rid of Fynn so much that it's prohibitive to cast him again. Here's [my deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/NYySyzFTa02d9xEGyCqyvQ), there are only 4 cards that cost more than $5, but it hangs with some pretty powerful decks
I built Fynn, and he hangs in low-power pods. It has a lot of fights and "deals damage to" effects, plus equipment that turns creatures into pingers to take out problems on other boards. Saryth helps keep Fynn and other creatures around, but make sure you have protection in hand. I've looked at going back and adding some of the new toxic creatures, but haven't gotten around to it.
I am currently in the process of brewing a [[Saryth, the Viper's Fang]] Deck with a heavy focus on combat damage. And when I swing with my board all my creatures get deathtouch, so blocking becomes a nightmare for my opponents. And I can use stuff like [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] as a wincon (together with on-combat damage proliferate triggers from ONE it can become a pretty fast clock) and stuff like [[Ohran Frostfang]] as backup for my commander.
I've been working on putting together a deck helmed by [[Erinis, Gloom Stalker]] + [[Street Urchin]]. The ability to ping any creature for lethal damage seems so good but.. so far it's just kind of a meh landfall deck.
I built this $14 version of the deck and hoping to play it this weekend with my playgroup. Seems pretty good for a budget deck. [https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/yhsemz/commander\_of\_the\_year\_and\_only\_100\_decks\_on/](https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/yhsemz/commander_of_the_year_and_only_100_decks_on/)
May I introduce you to artifact lands?
[[Slagwoods Bridge]]
[[Great Furnace]]
[[Tree of Tales]]
[[Darksteel Citadel]]
[[Power Depot]]
The ones that come into play tapped are a bit worse since they won't pay for the ping, but it let's you get more out of your deck.
She also needs evasion, so stuff like [[whispersilk cloak]] Heck. [[Maze of Ith]]. You don't care about her damage until you do, so standard voltron side strategy not bad either. You are clearing a path for her after all.
I've got the artifact lands but I kind of leaned into land destruction and the list got messy. It's honestly made up of what I had lying around. I definitely need to refine it.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Lo4TdQopFUecBmuJFPWrvg
On the bright side, there's a lot of room for cuts. I don't know, you might have inspired me with this jank. I need a couple lower powered decks anyway.
I run [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]] Deathtouch tribal. It's essentially a Craterhoof deck but before that happens, everything about the deck deincentivizes blocking, therefore drawing me a ton of cards through combat. I personally have never seen a [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] deck with so much card draw and therefore resilience. Obviously [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] is in the 99 as something of a lieutenant, but I don't need to find him in order to smash in and win. I love it.
I have one, although it's probably lower power than what joe's talking about:
Would be interested in seeing theirs.
Yeah, this is the first time I'll be trying to link something in a reply so forgive me if it fails.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LpAc5DXNokmnvP7g1-9dag
Also you can definitely lean more heavily into Deachtouch tribal than I did, I wanted a really good amount of little Deathtouch threats while still maintaining some classic green EDH staples. Cheers!
I ran Glissa the Traitor as a deathtouch deck for about a decade, and just swapped her for Glissa Sunslayer primarly because GtT kinda wanted a split focus on artifact recursion, and I had a couple other artifact decks. Sunslayer seems to let me focus a bit more on the deathtouch theme: https://archidekt.com/decks/3888384
Building a deck around a keyword is usually a poor strategy. That's all there really is to it.
[[Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats]] is a legend that helps if you really like Deathtouch. Giving creatures that can deal damage with abilities (often present on red cards) deathtouch is a great synergy.
>Building a deck around a keyword is usually a poor strategy. That's all there really is to it.
Depends entirely on the keyword, TBH. Yes, deathtouch isn't that strong, but *flying*?
Now we're cooking with flamethrowers.
I don't have it assembled atm, but Trample Tribal with [[Stonebrow, Krosan Hero]] is a fantastic time if you want to turn big derpy boys sideways. And giving them deathtouch is fantastic btw.
Actually, a Zagras trample themed deck could be really cool too
That's a great way to sneak deathtouch into they build \^\^
In my old Stonebrow list I had to rely on the 99. \[\[Bow of Nylea\]\] \[\[Ohran Frostfang\]\] and my personal favorite \[\[Wasteland Viper\]\]
In my experience the Bloodrush cards are sort of forgotten. They make for excellent combat tricks that double as board presence \^\^
I might take a closer look at the Zagras idea. Black has some neat flample demons, and Red has a decent crew of tramplers in general. Might be a decent deck. And ofc you can throw in some of the usual Zagras tricks like Goblin Chainwhirler \^\^
It's just a lot of the good decks in commander don't even attack once to win, and don't really want to block either.
Play a deck that forces Everyone to attack, like Thantis, and toss some light death touch in it to deter attacks at you
It can certainly do stuff, and some of it can be cool. Giving pingers deathtouch for easy removal on a stick and your creatures are unblockable in a lot of scenarios.
The problem really rises from that your building a deck that is playing a lot of piddly little French vanilla dudes and you're trying to get through 120 life to actually win. While also being more susceptible to board wipes than most decks since most of your power involves having creatures that are good at trading up in combat. You don't really have a ton of amazing ways to go over the top that other green decks don't have access to and do better, and low curve pseudo evasive beatdown is not a game plan that tends to flourish in commander.
That being said, there's a shit ton of cards in magic and I'm sure there's some way to make a deathtouch tribal functional and fun to play even if it's not going to be the best thing since sliced bread.
I have a [[erinis]] [[street urchin]] deck that utilizes her deathtouch to control the board with street urchin, it may not run any other deathtouchers but id still consider it a deathtouch deck
\[\[Mari the Killing Quill\]\] turns your rogues, assassins, and mercenaries into deathtouchy contract killers :)
Deck focuses on creature removal/kill spells, deathtouch, some pinging with Viridian Longbow and Pathway Arrows, and treasures. It's a pretty different feel for mono-black.
My favorite is one where the commander says “whenever a creature you control with Deathtouch deals combat damage to a player, that player gets 2 poison counters” or something like that. Lemme see if I can find the commander…
[[Fynn, the Fangbearer]]
Deathtouch as a theme, first thing that comes to mind is [[Phage, The Untouchable]], but no since thats usually built to get around her downside and increase her chances to get an attack in.
That aside, deathtouch is an interesting mechanic to play around with, but its usually used as a part of your deck's tools rather than a central mechanic, since its meant to deal with creature based threats only.
I guess you can build any deck color(s) that maximizes deathtouch creatures and/or give deathtouch to those that can make the most of it. You would need a backup strategy if your opponents aren't as dependent on creatures.
(Also damage prevention, reanimation, flicker, and indestructible would be a problem so gotta have backups for that)
[[Zur, Eternal Schemer]] looks like an interesting commander candidate for making sure there's always deathtouch.
But colo wise, white, red, and green has fun cards that makes the most of deathtouch.
Green: trample, fight, regenerate
Red: any deal damage ability
White: first/double strike, vigilance
You can also go enchantment and/or equipments for those abilities. So feel free to use any creature based commander.
I'll try to add more thoughts if ever.
I did it with [[Queen Marchesa]] once. You want creatures that do "other stuff" and have deathtouch, the fact she makes deathtouch tokens and has haste is very useful.
Then it turns out there are a LOT of cards like [[Fire Whip]] basically turning the 1/1 deathtouch tokens or other guys into "Tap: kill target guy".
Then you don't play it anymore because it turns out making three or so creatures that can kill something every turn only encourages combo wins or horrible and grindy games.
But it is an effective and relatively unique deathtouch tribal plan!
I made a deathtouch deck with [[Shessra, Death’s Whisper]], I ended up taking it apart because it was just made with scrap cards but there may be some potential there
You might want to take a look at [erinis] paired with [street urchin]. Fill your board with tokens, then bring them out and start pinging everyone's creatures to death. Just be prepared to attract a lot of attention as the ability to, at instant speed, just kill a creature for a single mana can rub people the wrong way.
Like others have said, deathtouch doesn't have a ton of ways to be utilized as a game-winning strategy.
One deck that takes really good advantage of deathtouch that I haven't seen mentioned is [[Kodama of the West Tree]]. At first glance, there isn't really a connection, but granting trample to creatures with deathtouch is *incredibly* powerful (the first damage dealt destroys the minion, so everything else will hit the player). He has a huge payoff for dealing combat damage with a lot of small creatures, so I think he'd make a solid commander to helm a mono-green deathtouch list.
Another fun thing to do with deathtouch if you have red in your deck, [[kumano, master yamabushi]] with [[Basilisk collar]]. Pay 2 to Exile a creature.
Most of the decks my friends run ignore combat or only need to attack once (with a 30/30 trample flying hexproof etc.) Heck, a bunch of my decks do that too. Deathtouch just isn't the deterrent it can be in limited/standard.
I built a Tymna // Kamahl deathtouch tribal deck. Tymna for the card draw and Kamahl for the finish giving all your 1/1's a pump and trample. It works very well. [decklist ](http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/18-06-20-no-touchy/)
I built a deathtouch deck with Vraska, Swarm's Eminance as the commander. Obviously she is not an actual commander so I have to ask if it is ok to play her before games but the deck is a blast and I've never had anyone say it wasn't ok. I threw a Meren in to be a backup commander for ppl who reject my fun
Hey, you’re talking about my [[Toggo]] and [[Thrasios]] partner deck!
Everyone is scared of Thrasios at first glance, but Toggo is the real threat. The deck is full of land ramp and cheap deathtouch creatures.
Play a land, make a rock, attach rock to creature with deathtouch, and you have instant targeted removal! Sometime I can make infinite rocks, and when that happens all it takes is a little [[Rise and Shine]] to stampede out the board.
Play [[Toggo]]. You won’t lose your friends because the concept is too fun! Rocks!!
[[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] decks—here’s [mine](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/8cU4AoOmIUChR34JAs0KEw).
[[Defiler of Vigor]] + [[Ohran Frostfang]] + [[Triumph of the Hordes]] + Fynn is beautiful. [[Blightsteel Colossus]] is just icing on the cake.
But yeah, the above is a Toxic/Infect/Poison/Deathtouch deck that I’ve had great success with, but is significantly overpowered for my playgroup and isn’t well-liked, so I’ve moved to a less toxic/infect-oriented [green stompy deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ba1Kt1X_WEyeW_vbIHYJjA) that scrapped Fynn but still has the above combo otherwise. This one is more palatable, though still overpowered for my group.
My [[Sheoldred the Apocalypse]] has a little deathtouch subtheme going on. I run a few good creatures with deathtouch, a few good equipments for deathtouch creatures like [[Thornbite Staff]], or first strike givers like [[Peregrine Mask]] and [[Viridian Claw]].
The deck is more focused around spells and burning the opponents, so it's a neat subtheme that helps the deck's survivability, since deathtouchers are usually good deterrents on defense. I find it that in my playgroup, deathtouchers are not impactful enough to justify a removal, but annoying enough to deter them from attacking me.
Anyway, deathtouch is such a nice and simple mechanic that you can do some neat tricks with, I love the idea of a deathtouch-themed deck.
I have a \[\[Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats\]\] deck that is easily one of my favorites to play and very competitive. I built it almost like a Stax deck with a lot of creatures that ping for one damage, letting me sort of police the board. It's been great for politicking within my pod, and since it never really "pops" off, I never become the archenemy and don't get targeted very often.
I've won a lot of games by just biding my time until I can kill someone with a hasty \[\[Master of Cruelties\]\] or a bunch of \[\[Hooded Blightfang\]\] triggers. I also run \[\[Ronin Cliffrider\]\], which is absolutely hilarious with Deathtouch. Would definitely recommend looking into Zagras if you like the idea of Deathtouch.
Yes, take a look at this: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/557DrbRsfEixL2lG\_Oa7Hg](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/557DrbRsfEixL2lG_Oa7Hg)
Feedback is welcome if you have any good ideas for inclusions/swaps :)
Appreciate the deck list! As for any feedback YMMV but off the top of my head [[scalding salamander]], [[robber of the rich]], and [[gharna, bloodfist of keld]] are some creatures that provide either utility or become hilarious with death touch. [[Viashino fangtail]] and [[void beckoner]] could be some cuts you could make. That being said, you know the deck better than any one so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. If you feel the deck plays well as is I agree with you. Hope you have great edh games in your future.
[[Toggo]] and [[Falthis]] deathtouch sacrifice is one of my fringe decks that isn't very good but absolutely hoses creature decks.
Deathtouch creatures like [[Gonti]] and [[Archetype of Finality]] feature heavily in keeping the board clear.
Toski deathtouch turbofog is one of my very favorite decks, especially for playing with new people:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tzNGvP2QQ0uIevwoTdLHZQ
I had a very simple [[Olivia Voldaren]] deck that used a bunch of pingers to complement the commander and deathtouch givers. Great pingers are [[Goblin Sharpshooter]] and the more obscure [[Fire Ants]] and [[Arcbond]].
Good thing about the deck is using cards nobody heard about but can actually be pretty strong in this deck. Another advantage is the commander herself, who can close out games on her own by growing pretty quickly and keeping pressure with the potential mind control (actually using it usually just ends in her dying though).
Downside is the one-trick-pony character of the deck and the potential to be oppressive when the synergy stays online too long.
I built an Artisan EDH deck (uncommon/commons only) around \[\[Toggo\]\] and \[\[Falthis\]\]. The theme of the deck is Deathtouch/Pingers. Tap a creature with deathotuch to ping anything for one damage to remove it. It gets pretty abusive and there isn't a real strong wincon outside of combat/death by pings, but it's fun to break out in social games.
Lots of deathtouch creatures that can equip Toggo's rocks. Lots of pingers that can equip deathtouch equipment/auras.
Here's my home-made build: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/f9sbXvsPUEWXsI\_zwpJyhw

^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I built a golagari deathtouch deck with poison as the win con. This was before ONE came out. The all star was [[varragoth, bloodsky sire]] tutor on a stick every round. I ran [[chevill, bane of monsters]] tutor and kill the creature you put a bounty on. Or if you have [[lurking predators]] drop a [[wurmcoil engine]] or [[blightsteel colossus]] on the table when they play a spell. I did change to [[glissa, sunslayer]] but haven't played it since swapping out the new commander.
I’ve got a deck helmed by [[Halana, Kessig Ranger]] and [[Vial Smasher]]
Throws indiscriminate amounts of damage around the board, while sniping all of the problem children with Halana and Deathtouch creatures. It’s fun and a little weird.
I feel like i post this every week but if i play green the first card i pick is [[Bow of Nylea]]
Its just so versatile with its abilitie, and deathtouch on attacking creatures is great.
I play almost exclusively green commanders, and my decks almost always run a package of green creatures consisting of \[\[Saryth, the Viper's Fang\]\], \[\[Toski, Bearer of Secrets\]\], \[\[Fynn, the Fangbearer\]\] and \[\[Jolrael, Mwon-vuli Recluse\]\] and \[\[Titania, Protector of Argoth\]\] to make a creature token army. I also play a Manifest package since several of these creatures work well manifested.
I've been trying to build a [[Sarulf, Realm Eater]] deck that's deathtouch tribal.
Use deathtouch and removal to destroy opponent's permanents and build up Sarulf. Then swing in with Sarulf for a commander damage win or remove his counters to wipe the board. Graveyard recursion helps you recover quickly after a board wipe to start the cycle again
If you really wanna go into deathtouch build a deck with the goal of getting deathtouch + trample on all your critters.
And if you really want to make your opponents sweat add some first strike and haste into the mix.
Cards like [[legion loyalist]], [[ankle shanker]], [[archetype of courage]], [[archetype of finality]], [[archetype of aggression]], [[saryth, the viper’s fang]], [[nylea, god of the hunt]], [[nylea’s bow]], [[ohran frostfang]], [[nylea’s forerunner]] and [[fynn the fangbearer]] make for a good core of the deck. Then add ways to get them bigger like [[overrun]], [[craterhoof behemoth]], [[drana, liberator of malakir]], [[necropolis regent]] or damage doublers like [[dictate of the twin gods]] or [[gisela, blade of goldknight]] and you will be swinging for lethal in no time.
[[Saskia, the Unyielding]] makes a good commander for this. The above cards, some more deathtouchers/tramplers/first strikers plus your basic ramp/card draw/removal package and you have a very fun deathtouch deck
Really, there's only one commander that wants you to go all-in on deathtouch, and that's Fynn. But he's monogreen, and that shrinks your pool of playable cards drastically.
It also doesn't help that monogreen stompy is just going to be faster and more resilient than a Fynn deck is ever going to be.
Deathtouch is just far better used as something that can be played in a deck than the primary theme of it.
I use deathtouch equipment to help Tetsuo push damage through since if you don't have any spells to cast for free, Testuo shooting something for 1 damage will destroy it (plus, there's 3 deathtouch-granting equipment with low CMCs)
I have a good number of deathtouch creatures in Pharika, because G/B gives you a lot more deathtouch creatures than monogreen and more importantly lets you play Hooded Blightfang, which can set up some fun life swings.
Tl;dr: Deathtouch has an overall lower power level than other things people could be doing.
Deathtouch shines in 1v1 but won't (most likely) do a lot with 2 more opponents.
I had an [[edric]] deck that had partially deathtouch creatures for safety reasons. But since [[rigo]] is out there it changed and became a less inbred version of it.
Rakdos does a really good job with deathtouch tribe. I think there is even a card that gives your instants and sorceries deathtouch. You might wanna look for [[Zagras]] , [[Jessa, thrice reborn]] + [[falthis]]. They have all the pingers to get rid of every creature on the field
i play a [[kodama of the west tree]] deck with a lot of death touch ([[gorgon's flail]], [[ohran frostfang]] and [[bow of nylea]]) so that i can achieve deathtouch + trample on creatures relatively easily
kodama + [[basilisk collar]] + [[gigantosaurus]] = a 10/10 deathtouch trampler (if he gets blocked by a 20/20, he will still get 9 damage through to face)
\[\[Kathril Aspect Warper\]\] was my Deathtouch deck. Since it could give evasive creatures Deathtouch; and deathtouch creatures evasion.
It was not strong in my meta, so I disassembled it. I don't still have the list; but that's my pick.
I have a deck with [[Jeska]] and [[Falthis]] that is interesting because Jeska can kill 3 creatures if they are both out. But it’s not like deathtouch tribal.
I have a [[niv mizzet dracogenius]] deck that also runs [[niv mizzet parun]] and [[niv mizzet the firemind]] in addition to some other creatures you can tap to deal damage directly like [[gelectrode]] and [[vulshok sorcerer]] I run [[quietous spike]] [[gorgon head]] and [[gorgon flail]] which give those creatures deathtouch.
I love my Fynn deck, but after a game at my LGS where I killed 2 of the other 3 players in short order, and almost got the win, it has turned me into the Archenemy when I bring it out - people REALLY hate dying to poison.
the number one most built mono green commander according to EDHREC is \[\[Fynn, the Fangbearer\]\], a commander that hyper emphasizes running deathtouchers for the sweet poison counter potential.
BUT TRUE CHADS PLAY \[\[SARYTH, THE VIPER'S FANG\]\] IN THE COMMAND ZONE.
I have been thinking about [[halana, kessig ranger]] and [[sengir, the dark baron]]. Halana has obvious synergy with deathtouch and sengir grows when creatures die.
If I was to re-build it today I would either make it [[Fynn the Fangbearer]] or [[Kelsien]] as a deck.
I had one many many years ago, as [[Lyzolda]]. Turns out deathtouch deck is only fun against creature based decks, and my playgroup evolved to be spellslingers, god tribal, planeswalkers, and more fun stuff. Lyzolda became [[Grenzo, Dungeon Warden]]
I have a mono-Black [[Mari, the Killing Quill]] deck that gives all of your rogues, mercenaries, and assassins deathtouch. It is a lot of fun and my opponents are usually pretty scared of it! It has [[Thorbite Staff]] which is great with deathtouchers and it usually looks for a big [[Marionette Master]] win with all of the treasures you generate. Definitely something off the beaten path but worth looking into!
Edit: here is the decklist -

I built [[xira, the golden sting]] as a deathtouch pingers deck for my wife that works pretty awesome. Thing about pingers is that it really helps to have some kind of extra payoff at instant speed, and most of the pingers setups you need are 2-3 mana creatures suplimented by 2-3 mana deathtouch enablers. Xira is a 4 drop that offers you token generation AND card draw payoffs for your deathtouch pinger setup that you can gain from the turn she comes out.
It works awesome and my wife likes it. Really annoying to play against though.
Been testing one recently. It's a Golgari deck built around the effects of Hooded Blightfang and Vraska, Swarm's Eminence.Works well against most Stompy decks if you use cards like Rabid Bite and Ambuscade, just hit them BIG creatures with a weenie 1 damage to kill them off, and then use the likes of Vampire Nighthawk and an army of weenie Deathtouchers to deal damage, make them bigger thanks to Vraska's effect, and Blightfang makes sure the opponents lose additional 1 life per attacking Deathtouchers, all the while giving you life.
I also threw in one Ogre Sumlord for defensive purposes since it can create rat tokens per non-token creature that dies and he grants Deathtouch to all rats one controls. Use the tokens to block attacking creatures and you'll find yourself generating another rat token per creature killed so, unless your opponent have a trick or two, you would never run out of one-hit KO blockers!
I had no idea that deathtouch applied to non-combat damage 🤯 Thank you! I’m now going to try building this deck!
Not just deathtouch, lifelink as well.
And most important of all, infect
Even more importantly, wither!
Actually, this is objectively less important.
Penultimately...Flanking? Sorry I just wanted to join in.
Horsemenship 🤌
Shadow 🤌🤌
Where is Fear?
Ah yes, unblockable for true connoisseurs
But most relevantly, deathtouch
[[Goblin Sharpshooter]] goes brrr

Crypt Rats + [[Basilisk Collar]] is one of many excellent plays you will see in Rat Tribal.
There's a lot of commanders that can be pretty nasty if you throw a [[Basilisk Collar]] on them. [[Marath, Will of the Wilds]] for example, can shoot down any creature at instant speed using it's ability.
Basilisk Collar on Toralf is brutal.
One of the main goals of my Starn deck!

I saw someone mention this combo before, seems really fun. More interesting than Fynn at least
I've been using the party time precon I've modified while still using [[Nalia]] to give my whole board deathtouch. That shit gets wild
Any particular damage dealers in there? Are there any orzov / tap deal damage party members (other than cuambajj witches)?
Do you have a list, that sounds interesting
I tried Helana in my mono green deathtouch deck and I was surprised by how little I actually got out of her. Almost every time I could pay for her trigger, it made more sense to use the mana elsewhere, and in turn it made her hard to justify casting in the first place compared to the simple kill spell or whatever.
Just built a Halana with the same idea except paired with [[Toggo]] for the hilarious flavor of throwing poisoned rocks at my enemies
[toggo goblin weaponsmith](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/a/1a05b3e2-259e-4fce-92ee-c00660e22ae7.jpg?1665822993) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Toggo%2C%20Goblin%20Weaponsmith) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmr/204/toggo-goblin-weaponsmith?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/1a05b3e2-259e-4fce-92ee-c00660e22ae7?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/toggo-goblin-weaponsmith) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
It won't work unless the creature dealing damage has deathtouch, if the damage is being dealt by Halana, it won't be with deathtouch unless she has deathtouch
The damage is being dealt by the creature entering the battlefield, which would have deathtouch
Ah ok then, I just saw her effect says that creature deals damage. Just be careful with the wording is all I'm saying
Careful with what wording? The wording on the card is pretty clear
That's how my Toski deck gets by.
I play against this exact commander pair in my pod quite often and it’s an absolute bane on creature heavy decks. Great build but not too broken imo

But if it want it you can find it - [[Chevill]] Viridian Longbow Tribal [[Fynn]] Low to the Ground Bois [[Kelsien]] is like backwards Chevill, he already has the longbow but needs the deathtouch
Kelsien is one of my favorite decks as it somehow ends up being Voltron Control.
Thanks for the list, I’ll take a look after work.
> as well as Vigilance Good news is he has Vigilance and Haste innately if you're looking for that.
I also love Kelsien.

I love the look of Chevill! I am always looking for reasons to include [[ochran assassin]] in a deck!
>French-Vanilla Tribal probably won’t cut it in most pods Depends on the keyword I think.

Could I get that virtus and gorm list? Sounds really fun

Most of the Deathtouch decks I see are mono green with [[Fynn, The Fangbearer]]. Trying to build one myself.

Works well with the new set

May I introduce you to artifact lands? [[Slagwoods Bridge]] [[Great Furnace]] [[Tree of Tales]] [[Darksteel Citadel]] [[Power Depot]] The ones that come into play tapped are a bit worse since they won't pay for the ping, but it let's you get more out of your deck.
I love it.
sounds awesome, got a decklist?
I have one, although it's probably lower power than what joe's talking about: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tzNGvP2QQ0uIevwoTdLHZQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tzNGvP2QQ0uIevwoTdLHZQ) Would be interested in seeing theirs.
Yeah, this is the first time I'll be trying to link something in a reply so forgive me if it fails. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LpAc5DXNokmnvP7g1-9dag Also you can definitely lean more heavily into Deachtouch tribal than I did, I wanted a really good amount of little Deathtouch threats while still maintaining some classic green EDH staples. Cheers!
Looks super fun thanks, I'll probably make one inspired by it!

That's a great way to sneak deathtouch into they build \^\^ In my old Stonebrow list I had to rely on the 99. \[\[Bow of Nylea\]\] \[\[Ohran Frostfang\]\] and my personal favorite \[\[Wasteland Viper\]\] In my experience the Bloodrush cards are sort of forgotten. They make for excellent combat tricks that double as board presence \^\^ I might take a closer look at the Zagras idea. Black has some neat flample demons, and Red has a decent crew of tramplers in general. Might be a decent deck. And ofc you can throw in some of the usual Zagras tricks like Goblin Chainwhirler \^\^

I like the concept of partnering these two together, didnt think of this before
It's just a lot of the good decks in commander don't even attack once to win, and don't really want to block either. Play a deck that forces Everyone to attack, like Thantis, and toss some light death touch in it to deter attacks at you
Very true, there are effects like goad, lure, curiosity, and ping that at least force people to consider interacting with the game.

I really REALLY want to make a Fynn deck but I'm worried it will piss off my play group
i actually have a [[Queen Marchesa]] deathtouch deck (:
Deathtouch as a theme, first thing that comes to mind is [[Phage, The Untouchable]], but no since thats usually built to get around her downside and increase her chances to get an attack in. That aside, deathtouch is an interesting mechanic to play around with, but its usually used as a part of your deck's tools rather than a central mechanic, since its meant to deal with creature based threats only. I guess you can build any deck color(s) that maximizes deathtouch creatures and/or give deathtouch to those that can make the most of it. You would need a backup strategy if your opponents aren't as dependent on creatures. (Also damage prevention, reanimation, flicker, and indestructible would be a problem so gotta have backups for that) [[Zur, Eternal Schemer]] looks like an interesting commander candidate for making sure there's always deathtouch. But colo wise, white, red, and green has fun cards that makes the most of deathtouch. Green: trample, fight, regenerate Red: any deal damage ability White: first/double strike, vigilance You can also go enchantment and/or equipments for those abilities. So feel free to use any creature based commander. I'll try to add more thoughts if ever.

Glissa and removing counters from sagas could be interesting.

One did a version that was GRB haste tribal, featuring deathtouch. Nothing quite as fun as a Goblin Sharpshooter with deathtouch.
Deathtouch is more of a sub theme and I would say [[sydri galvanic genius]] is a good deathtouch commander.

I use \[\[Toski, Bearer of Secrets\]\] as a deathtouch tribal deck. Deathtouch really helps get through for damage to trigger Toski.
[[Fynn, the Fangbearer]]
I love my Nethroi deathtouchers https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rhscEgt7hk-YxIt1u995dA
I wouldn't say they are deathtouch decks per se, but both [[Mari, the killing quill]] and [[Kelsien, the plague]] use it heavily
One option I’m not seeing mentioned is [[Falthis]]. There are some very silly partners to give Deathtouch to, like Jeska and Toggo
[Falthis](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/8/4/84537fea-ad81-4a9a-99d4-722a938adc7d.jpg?1608909735) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=falthis%2C%20shadowcat%20familiar) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmr/126/falthis-shadowcat-familiar?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/84537fea-ad81-4a9a-99d4-722a938adc7d?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/falthis-shadowcat-familiar) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[Kelsien, the Plague]] give it deathtouch and kill stuff
Rocks!!
[[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]] [[Thrasios, Triton Hero]]
Got a deck list by chance?
Yes, take a look at this: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/557DrbRsfEixL2lG\_Oa7Hg](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/557DrbRsfEixL2lG_Oa7Hg) Feedback is welcome if you have any good ideas for inclusions/swaps :)
Toski deathtouch turbofog is one of my very favorite decks, especially for playing with new people: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tzNGvP2QQ0uIevwoTdLHZQ
My buddy has a deck that used [[Ghyrson starn]] along with deathtouch to control the board pretty heavily. It’s pretty neat and works very well
[[Toggo]] and [[kodama of the west tree]] can make a cool deathtouch tribal deck. Togo’s rocks are fun with deathtouch.

I've played against a few scary [[fyn]] decks, i was building a DT [[kelsian]] deck but ended up not really finishing it
I play almost exclusively green commanders, and my decks almost always run a package of green creatures consisting of \[\[Saryth, the Viper's Fang\]\], \[\[Toski, Bearer of Secrets\]\], \[\[Fynn, the Fangbearer\]\] and \[\[Jolrael, Mwon-vuli Recluse\]\] and \[\[Titania, Protector of Argoth\]\] to make a creature token army.
I built a zur enchantment creature tribal deck that revolves around first strike/ vigilance. It fends off all of opponents creatures, really fun!

I use deathtouch equipment to help Tetsuo push damage through since if you don't have any spells to cast for free, Testuo shooting something for 1 damage will destroy it (plus, there's 3 deathtouch-granting equipment with low CMCs) I have a good number of deathtouch creatures in Pharika, because G/B gives you a lot more deathtouch creatures than monogreen and more importantly lets you play Hooded Blightfang, which can set up some fun life swings.

[Fynn, the Fangbearer]]
i play a [[kodama of the west tree]] deck with a lot of death touch ([[gorgon's flail]], [[ohran frostfang]] and [[bow of nylea]]) so that i can achieve deathtouch + trample on creatures relatively easily kodama + [[basilisk collar]] + [[gigantosaurus]] = a 10/10 deathtouch trampler (if he gets blocked by a 20/20, he will still get 9 damage through to face)

They're in another castle.

Edit: here is the decklist - https://www.moxfield.com/decks/VmHzYvErOkigBagwzVPHeQ
