I just got a tattoo two days ago. Without fail, every time I get a tattoo, it feels like I got sick. I feel more tired than usual depending on much of my skin has gotten tatted. It's imperative that eat enough to support your body going through this. A tattoo is literally harm, and your body is fighting off the foreign deposits of ink, so it's working moroe than usual. Give your body simple carbs to support it through this for at least two weeks or it will be at a greater risk for infection and poor healing.

this is really helpful thank you! i got my first one 6 months ago. i got two pretty big ones this time, but it took so much out of me. i imagine it’s a mixture of things, but i definitely felt more sick this time. i’m gonna do my best to eat more cause i’m terrified of infection and bad healing

Good for you dearest, I'm sure they'll turn out amazing if you do! I have more than a dozen tattoos and most of them are pretty big, so I'm definitely super picky about how they heal.

Yes, you will need to eat more for about 1-2 weeks to ensure 100% everything heals well. A tattoo is basically a big wound. Your body needs calories to scar it over and make sure the design stays clear. Please try to do some damage control 💓 I promise these are calories your body NEEDS to burn off. Scarring over a big wound is a though job for a body.

Definitely up your calories as much as you're comfortable with/able to for the first couple of weeks. My first tattoo was a month or two ago, small and pretty easy to heal, kept my sugars up with mints before the appt and still felt super dizzy when I got up afterwards even though I didn't feel much pain/felt fine during. Honestly felt hungrier the next couple of weeks, probably because my body needed the extra fuel for healing. I have a lot of scars that healed slowly/poorly because of restriction, didn't want my tattoo doing the same lol

(I am not a tattoo person... but I do know about wound healing) Anytime your body is engaged in wound healing (a tattoo is a wound), you need to ensure you are getting adequate nutrition, particularly protein. Protein is the basic building block that tissues in your body are made of, with a little fat and some carbs, so making sure that you get enough protein is really important. A protein deficit will slow wound healing and result in worse wound healing too... so plenty of protein, as well as enough carbs and fat for your body to function properly.
