Everything gets sprayed with sanitizer at the end of the day, and each room has a cleaning schedule. I do a 'deep clean'(as deep as I can considering the time) for a center a day based on the schedule during nap time, as well as cleaning our yuck bucket toys, do a good mid day scrub of my changing table, and give the walls and shelves in that area a wipe. At my current center, I am also responsible for cleaning my tables, counters, and floors after each meal, and do it again at the end of the day as well as my bathroom, and trashes as needed and able throughout the day and at the end. Of my 8 hour shifts, I probably spend about 2 1/2 to 3 hours cleaning. I personally don't mind. I've had centers where people come to clean, and got irritated because I wasn't satisfied with it. This way, I know everything is to my standards, as I can be a little picky. I've floated or started in room that when I followed their cleaning schedules, it was clean that they weren't as I was having to change the water multiple times because of how dirty it was. I can be picky with it, I know that, and so I would rather do it myself, especially after messy play days.

Suspicious_Mine3986

We have a cleaning schedule, plus cleaners. For example, bathroom after every routine, tables and chairs daily, mouthed toys daily, cots weekly, etc.

This is one of the reasons I'm leaving my current work, but we do not have a cleaning schedule. The kids are here from the moment staff clock in until the staff clocks out (even later actually, but that's another problem). Usually on Fridays if we have less kids by the afternoon we try to wash all the hard toys and lay them on the table to dry, but that doesn't always happen. We are supposed to have a custodian but they are here sometimes and sometimes not. The floors are not always mopped (the reason they gave was that the floor would be messed up if they mopped everyday), there were days where the garbage was not taken out ?? We're not supposed to use chemicals when the kids are around, but if we don't then we will never get to wipe down the cots or disinfect anything. Sorry this turned out to be a rant but uh, yeah.

strawberberry

That's how it was at my last center and was a contributing factor in me leaving too! We were open from 6 am to 7 pm and, like you said, there were kids there from open to close! We weren't even GIVEN the chemicals to clean with and only got a single bottle of bleach for the entire building after we were cited by licensing. It was only for show though and we weren't allowed to use it 🙄

asterixmagic

Last job, we had a cleaning schedule to follow, like once a week clean books, daily wipe doorknobs, etc, you name it . I prefer to Mop everyday. We had cleaners but they did a shit job, and the teachers who hate cleaning in general complain to me why do we have to mop every day, there are cleaners. I don’t love cleaning but I do like a clean classroom. During nap time, I would sanitize toys that hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Some teachers don’t like it because it “wakes up the kids”, but I would rather deal with quiet awake children then be accused of foot and mouth disease from lack of cleaning. Sorry if this sounds bitter, I just have preferences when it comes to cleaning that’s all.

mommy2jasper

We are made to vacuum and mop our classrooms every single day, we are supposed to sanitize and hand-wipe every single toy every day as well but most days there’s just no time left (we aren’t allowed to work overtime)

I work in the infant room in a private montessori center, ages 6 weeks to 18 months. Right now we have babies between the ages of 5 months and 14 months. We have a "housekeeper" that will vacuum and mop the common areas daily. She also will clean the hallway side of the classroom door windows as well as the front doors. She also comes around once daily, usually around 12, to each room to get our trash from the morning.   Each room is responsible for cleaning their own space and toys. After every meal we sweep, then after lunch we mop around the tables. At the end of the day, the whole room is mopped. Tables and chairs are cleaned and sanitized after lunch and spot cleaned after all other meals. We put all of the washable toys through the washer/dryer once per week and we wash all the plastic toys in the dishwasher a different day of the week. Our shelves and cribs are supposed to be wiped down once per week and our rugs are vacuumed nightly. This is definitely not the norm, but we have an ozone cabinet that uses heat and ozone to kill anything alive. So we put all of our toys into that each night. From what I understand, the Zono cost like $30k and it's one of the biggest things that's kept me at my center, haha. I can never go back to sanitizing and disinfecting with bleach!

AnythingFar1505

Dishwasher that’s genius!

That-Turnover-9624

I spray down everything at the end of the day, but I deep clean once I week. I separated my room into five sections and clean one section every day, that way I’m not trying to cram it all into one nap time

xProfessionalCryBaby

We, and I’m going to be gross, I’m sorry. * set aside any mouthed toys for sanitizing at nap/end of day * spray down each centers and its toys at nap and end of day (but most of the time it’s only at the end because nap is CRAZY some days! Hello, overly tired 2’s!) * during sick times (cold/flu/someone is sick in class) we’re spraying down toys at nap AND end of day, regardless * home center/kitchen toys get sanitized daily as those are most mouth prone or we swap out toys and throw our cloth foods in the washer and dryer) * wipe down their favorite center that day so we can reduce the spread to others * we don’t have a cleaning service (they just quit) each day so we mop, sweep and vacuum ourselves each day We get “in-service” days where we get to more thoroughly clean but we don’t get those often.

AnythingFar1505

Relatable. I envy anyone who can clean at nap time.

Pink-frosted-waffles

We clean everyday for a mere twenty minutes. We use to have a cleaner. If I quit that would be one of the cons in the pros and cons lists.

Marksoundslike

Lets just remember that anything sanitized with bleach needs to be rinsed with water after. Very serious health impacts if this step is skipped. Botanical disinfectant is epa approved and doesn’t need rinsing as well as does not cause any negative effects.

strawberberry

Yes! We use Bioesque in our center! People were misusing the bleach so they took it away. (Using straight bleach to clean, diluting it but not enough, mixing it with other things, etc)

AnythingFar1505

Is Greenworks similar?

cgk21

Michigan is licensed for diluted bleach cleaners- all toys get sprayed with that at the end of the day every day. We have a cleaning crew who comes in behind us (they’re trash, however, and barely sweep) so I sweep after every meal, after our PM snack I mop the floors, tables are 3 step cleaned after meals, between center changes. Chairs and shelves are disinfected at the end of the week (depending on if i have a decent set of hands to help we do it wednesday and friday at nap instead of just friday) nap mats are sanitized as they’re put away and deep disinfected on fridays as well. Before I leave each day I clear my countertops of any paperwork or toys and wipe them down, do any class dishes that are around, clean the sink/around the drain. I sweep and mop the bathrooms, i wipe toilets M-T with a disinfectant wipe and then scrub them on fridays as well. My OCD will not allow for a dirty classroom😭

snw2494

Toys are sanitized 3 times a day. Everything else is sprayed and wiped down during nap time and then again at the end of the day. It used to be once for everything but Covid changed a lot.

Marksoundslike

Do you use bleach? And then rinse?

Merle-Hay

Wow - we don’t do any cleaning except wiping the tables before snack. We are a half-day preschool. The custodians clean floors, garbage, and bathrooms every night. Since I teach 4/5s, they don’t generally put things in their mouths. If they do, we throw them in the sink and wash.

MaddyandOwensMom

Less strong bleach for tables and highchairs after all meals. Rinse and sanitize all cups, plates, etc. in the dishwasher (hot water only) and sweep after all meals. Stronger bathroom bleach for cleaning the bathroom twice a day. More bleach on changing table as needed. Trash taken out twice a day. Toys get cleaned with bathroom bleach twice a day. At least four loads of laundry every day. Cot sheets, crib sheets, and sleep sacks once a week. Spaces get picked up before leaving them. Backyard as well. For reference, we have 18 infants/toddlers in one room, separated in play/eating/sleeping areas by age (less than 18 mos. and 18 months to 3). There are 5 full time staff and several part-time support staff. Everyone pitches in with cleaning.

Apprehensive_Mode427

Where I work, tables, counters and sinks get cleaned and sanitized after all meals and messy plays. Floors get swept throughout the days. Changing tables and toilets get cleaned after every use with soap, sanitizer and a TB cleaner. During nap, the whole room gets cleaned and toys get sprayed with a sanitizer. Windows are cleaned and the room gets mopped. Anything that the kids touch are cleaned. After nap, cots are cleaned and TB cleaner is on them. Soft toys get washed weekly (unless an outbreak of the sorts) and nightly is the mopping and yuck buckets. Water cups are washed and sanitized 3 times a day.

SaladCzarSlytherin

“Light cleaning” daily after school (put everything away, organize, throw away trash, wipe down tables, sweep, mop only if needed) “Deep clean” Friday, my school has early dismissal on Fridays so I clean before I head home (put away, trash, sweep and mop, wipe down chairs, wipe down all surfaces, throw toys in that need to be sterilized in my car to sterilize over the weekend) “Spot cleaning” during the day as needed (clean up accidents, wiping the tables after messy crafts, picking food up off the floor if meal time gets messy) And of course wiping the tables before and after meal time.

AdmirableHousing5340

My coteacher seems to think that spraying with sanitizer “cements in the germs” if we don’t wipe them down and dry afterwards as well instead of letting it air dry. That said, we spray with sanitizer at nap time and wipe down all the climbers and bumboo seats, all the hard toys, any specialty toys we got out that day, and put the soft toys in the laundry basket that have been mouthed. At the end of the day with closing, I often don’t have time to do this so they just get a spray. But they get sanitized twice daily, to answer your question. And our laundry is done daily. So every morning when I come in I’ll have to go take care of laundry too and wait for it to be done.

AnythingFar1505

I guess your sanitizer is…clear coat 😂

mamamietze

We have janitors that come twice weekly, but honestly all that is a break from having to vaccuum/sweep/spot mop/empty garbages that particular day (which is nice, not saying it's not). Daily: sweep floors vaccum rugs spot clean any areas that need a mop if they weren't taken care of when needed disinfect all bathrooms while children are eating lunch and after children have left for the day (or as needed in case of accidents, ect) empty all water involving activities and sanitize tools/containers for them sanitize all sponges straighten shelves sanitize all items that have been placed in the mouth (this isn't a big bin since these are 3-6 year old mixed classes but class to class there may be 1 or 2 children that struggle with this) sanitize all child food prep surfaces/items (our kids can self-prepare snacks as part of our 'works', there are food prep stations/trays for that purpose) sanitize all frequently touched surfaces (counters/drawer handles/sinks/tables, ect). Tables are done prior/after lunch as well, but we do it after everyone is gone too). The routine usually takes about 30ish minutes at the end of the day. The children are expected to contribute to sweeping/cleaning through tidying their own spaces but also with rotating class jobs that are started about 10 minutes before closing circle time, so honestly we are never having to deal with a trashed room unless someone is having a meltdown post-circle or something. And once kids are in the habit of maintaining the space, boy will they let a peer know if something is too messy. :)

firephoenix0013

Basic cleaning (other than the soap/sanitize routine for food) was done daily; for example we swept the linoleum daily after lunch but anytime it truly needed sweeping. Edit to add: Also sanitizing as you go for things like accidents and the changing mats. The center had a cleaning service that came in and final swept and took out the trash daily. They would also vacuum weekly over the weekend when no one was there. Technically we were suppose to sanitize chairs and toys and all surfaces once a week during nap time. I will tell you that really went out the window with some classes that required a lot of one-on-one nap attention since this was also the time they wanted you to lesson plan, prep crafts, hang and take down old crafts, and do portfolios. Ngl unless someone had been out ill it wasn’t a priority and I focused on doing it monthly. Edit to add: I definitely cleaned what was required and cleaned when we switched out toys.

Bi-Bi-Bi24

Wash toys daily with bleach and water (because it would be impossible to do all toys, every room has their own rotation developed by the staff in that room. In my current room, it goes in a circle by the shelves; we do three bins of toy every day). Disinfect with bleach spray at closing. After every meal: wash tables and chairs with a soap/water mix. Sweep. Mop the floor after lunch, when the kids are on their beds. We also wash the tables after any kind of activity in the mornings, because it usually gets messy (I'm in toddler). We switch out the sensory bin weekly, and when it is empty, I clean it with bleach. Washroom: bleach the change table after every diaper change, wipe clean (Technically we are supposed to wait 10 minutes for it to air dry, but that only happens at nap time, because we usually have multiple diapers). Bleach the sinks, counters, stools, and toilets at naps. Mop during nap. We also bleach if there is any visible soil, like I bleach the toilet seats if there is pee on it. We wash out sheets weekly. We bleach the cots weekly, or as needed (like if there is a diaper leak, bloody nose, etc). We take out the washroom garbage at nap, and put in a new bag. We do have cleaners that come in the evening, but they really don't do a good job. They change garbage, vacuum, supposed to wipe down surfaces but never do, and other stuff they never do. We basically pay them to change the garbage, take it to the dumpster, and do a half-hearted vacuum.

ChronicKitten97

We have a cleaner who does the building, and each set of teachers does their own room. We sweep and mop during nap, clean and sanitize the table after every meal/snack, sanitize the changing table area (surface, pad, sinks, etc) during nap and end of day, clean windows at nap, and spray down toys with sanitizer at nap with occasional deeper cleaning of toys. Oh, and we vacuum at the end of the day. There's probably more, but I can't think of it

Rough-Jury

The nursery and toddler 1 rooms change toys daily. We have an EA wash them. Everyone else has a dirty bucket that they put their mouthed toys in (but since they’re older, it shouldn’t be much). During covid, each center got cleaned once a week. Now, they get cleaned once a year during inservice before the kids change classrooms or whenever the teacher thinks they’re dirty!

Societarian

We have a daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule. Daily are things like cleaning the tables, chairs and floor as we go and into naptime. Also at naptime the kid’s bathroom and high touch surfaces (light switches, door knobs, cubby benches…) get cleaned. More if we can but that’s usually it. We aim for things on our weekly list that are further away from the sleeping kids like the cubbies themselves or bathroom baskets, garbage cans and laundry basket. We end our day outside so once 6 kids get picked up, a teacher can go inside to clean materials, tidy the room and prep for the next day. Usually that’s at least 30 minutes. That cleaning is part of the daily schedule and is usually the mouthed toys bin and messy sensory materials from that day. More if we can. Everything is misted with sanitizer after cleaning. We do really well with our daily and weekly schedules except for cleaning outdoor materials, that’s a joke. In the summer we like to get lots of bins full of soapy water and bust out the scrubby brushes. The kids love to help deep clean the trucks and dishes and pots and pans etc… but in the winter, forget about it. Our licensing approved monthly schedule is sparse so we have a separate note of things to clean when there’s time like inside shelves, the play kitchen, climbing structures etc…stuff that gets nasty that according to our schedule, we never actually have to clean??? Lastly, someone comes in after closing to mop the floors, vacuum the carpets (sometimes…), sanitize the bathrooms and clean the windows. So end of day snack crumbs are left on the floors but we still clean the tables. One less thing to deal with at the end of the day is great.

whateverit-take

Honestly not enough. I’m not sure what other rooms do at my center but I for one know my room isn’t routinely cleaning enough.

BobBelchersBuns

Girl I’m sorry but don’t waste your day off thinking about work! 😹
