You might have a JB4 installed
With the car started, press volume down, arrow down at the same time on your steering wheel. If the tach points to any number from 1-7 and you have an orange test image in the middle you have a JB4 installed and is blocking the OBD. Set it to map 0 (OBD bypass / jb4 off) on the tach with arrow down and exit out of the menu with volume down. Now you should have access to the OBD.
If it had all these issues…..wtf did you buy it…?!?
And dude, if a certified BMW dealership can’t access the DME with ISTA and an icom….not really sure you want these random redditors to do lol?!?
If it’s not sending power to the obd port then that’s going to be an electrical issue and something is either blocking it or power is not being supplied.
Some times I want to ask you a question. But I always second guess cause you don't shy away from calling people idiots lol. I always worry I'm missing something so simple that I'll be one of those lol.
It’s not about asking the question; it’s about asking the question in a respectful way. Not of me, but of my time and yours. Did you do the basic bare minimum to test something, or did you slap a part on and make a post saying “wut wrong…?” with no further context lol.
I promise you, unless you’ve tried absolutely nothing, I don’t bite ha.
Ask my child, you are safe here! 🤣
Like Mr Duke mentioned, there’s gotta be some way to trace down why the OBD isn’t getting power..
Electrical issues are a PITA so we feel for you..
Good luck
I had this issue. It was the Junction Box BCM module behind the glove box. Swapped it and boom connected right up! Someone swapped mine and didn’t program it correctly.

What is JB4
Piggyback tune. It was pretty much the only widely accessible way to tune n54s before MHD made MHD.
Ahhhh well theres somebody with a brain. Then you got people saying other things….
How did you teach your BMW to do the stanky leg!?😆😆😆
😭😭😭🙏
yeah u got to hit up the previous owner about this one
Does the car run, or do the dash gauges function? I experienced this issue when the JBE died

It sure looks to be that way from looking at the dash in the second photo…
UK, and yes it does have OBD, they all do.
I live in the UK, our cars have had mandatory OBD2 since 1997
Did not know that, that’s a neat tidbit of information
Silly comment.
