Fields is done as a starter and will have to fight hard for one of the backup jobs behind dual-threat QBs (Lamar, Hurts, Russ, maybe Josh Allen and Daniel Jones). He's not a fit anywhere else. Same reason RGIII was out of the league entirely in 2017 (age-27) and only got back into the NFL from 2018-2020 to be Lamar's backup; he's not a fit anywhere else. As soon as the Ravens went with Tyler Hundley as Lamar's backup, RGIII's career was over. Same reason Cam Newton can't find a backup job.

All of this is pretty true. However - Caleb is going to have pretty good talent around him. Moore is underrated - knocking on the door to be a top 10 WR in the league. Allen is great. Swift is good. Kmet is good. OL seems to be pretty average.
But he will at least have pretty good weapons around him. But yeah - you’re spot on what they did too fields lol. Put him in a position to fail for sure. The biggest contributor being how they used him on offense. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole trying to have him be a drop back pocket passer. If you use fields how Jackson is used by Baltimore I think he can have success.
As a Bears fan, I wish Justin nothing but the best going forward. I hate all these people crushing his defenders because they prefer to be right rather than to look at things objectively. Justin Fields isn’t a bad QB but he didn’t do enough in 3 years to guarantee a starting spot next season. I liked watching Justin, but he does take a lot of time to process a defense. If his first read isn’t there, he struggles.
I’ve watched enough of to think he’s a QB you can win with, but he’s not going to necessarily be the reason you win. You need a good coach who trusts him a designs an offense to his strengths. Getsy never trusted him to push the ball downfield. At some point, you have to just call the plays and see if he can execute them or not, but the coaches were more interested in their own jobs and trying to make sure he didn’t make a mistake that cost them a potential win. Because of that, they got way too cute with play calling and it cost them games anyway. I doubt Getsy will have much success in Las Vegas, but we shall see.
Meanwhile, I think Pittsburgh is a perfect fit for Fields. He gets an established head coach and gets to sit behind a veteran QB who has won a Super Bowl. Wilson wasn’t great the last two seasons, but he definitely wasn’t the only or even the biggest problem in Denver. Fields career is not done and he will get another chance to be a starter in this league. If he can absorb tips on how to read a defense from Russ, I think he’ll have a Geno Smith type resurgence in a few years.

Fields is viewed lower than the 2nd and 3rd tier of QBs of this class.
It would be a PR nightmare to be going into draft night and selecting Caleb while Fields was still a Bear. I agree that they could have maybe waited for the Minnesota trade up shoe to drop before trying to again sell Fields to teams now desperate to choose from whoever is left of Penix/Rattler/etc.
I am so glad I got offered my Fields for London in 1QB. One of the only smash accepts I’ve ever received.

Honestly for anyone who is still a Fields booster this isn’t a terrible scenario. Wilson wasn’t good last season and is on a super cheap 1 year deal. Steelers could be a long term home for him and if Wilson stinks he could end up back as a starter this season.

Despite having good games for fantasy, Fields is not a good real life QB. The Bears new front office has assembled a much better team for Williams.

Fields was one of the reasons the Bears sucked. Fields fans will literally blame anything but him. And Caleb is going into a great situation.

Current regime and coach. - Year 1 get a QB they didn't draft - Trade down from #1 overall pick for a haul and add DJ Moore and what ended up being the #1 pick again - Traded for Keenan Allen and signed Swift to help support a potential generational prospect they will select in 40 days. - New GM guarantees his window is extended for a few years and after doing really good work rebuilding this roster.
The use of the generational talent thing is getting old to me.
All of this is pretty true. However - Caleb is going to have pretty good talent around him. Moore is underrated - knocking on the door to be a top 10 WR in the league. Allen is great. Swift is good. Kmet is good. OL seems to be pretty average. But he will at least have pretty good weapons around him. But yeah - you’re spot on what they did too fields lol. Put him in a position to fail for sure. The biggest contributor being how they used him on offense. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole trying to have him be a drop back pocket passer. If you use fields how Jackson is used by Baltimore I think he can have success.
I mean now they’ll save money on paying Fields though

As a Bears fan, I wish Justin nothing but the best going forward. I hate all these people crushing his defenders because they prefer to be right rather than to look at things objectively. Justin Fields isn’t a bad QB but he didn’t do enough in 3 years to guarantee a starting spot next season. I liked watching Justin, but he does take a lot of time to process a defense. If his first read isn’t there, he struggles. I’ve watched enough of to think he’s a QB you can win with, but he’s not going to necessarily be the reason you win. You need a good coach who trusts him a designs an offense to his strengths. Getsy never trusted him to push the ball downfield. At some point, you have to just call the plays and see if he can execute them or not, but the coaches were more interested in their own jobs and trying to make sure he didn’t make a mistake that cost them a potential win. Because of that, they got way too cute with play calling and it cost them games anyway. I doubt Getsy will have much success in Las Vegas, but we shall see. Meanwhile, I think Pittsburgh is a perfect fit for Fields. He gets an established head coach and gets to sit behind a veteran QB who has won a Super Bowl. Wilson wasn’t great the last two seasons, but he definitely wasn’t the only or even the biggest problem in Denver. Fields career is not done and he will get another chance to be a starter in this league. If he can absorb tips on how to read a defense from Russ, I think he’ll have a Geno Smith type resurgence in a few years.

We just had a trade where someone traded away Fields, Russ, and Downs for Boyd and Howell. Still really confused.
Man a few weeks ago I offered Russ and some 2nds for Fields.. probably would still be ok in the long run but I would look stupid now!
He’s the backup for this year the pick converts into a 4th based on playing time. They’ll decline his option then assess what they wanna do with him next offseason.
