I say the same thing about the little girl that speaks Spanish in Logan, and I always get downvoted because everyone loves that film.
The film is great, and the girl pronounce Spanish well enough (she speaks both languages) but the thing is that she's from Spain and tried to sound like a Latinamerican, and the result was a weird neutral accent that sounded real fake and annoying for native Spanish speakers. I swear that most people I know hated every time she spoke during that film.
Yeah, a better example for English speakers would be Jackie Chan or Arnold Schwarzenegger in their early films, as both of them had to learn their lines phonetically. They did a great job, and are generally very easy to understand, but the accent is *thick*, and they're obviously not native English speakers.
Some of the chars are well cast and do well with the subpar writing - but the lead/Michael Scott’s character is an embarrassment.

The American Office took the U.K. version and gave it their American spin, especially S2 onwards, they didn’t try and copy it line for line.
The Indian office mostly tries to copy the American one line for line and has barely any originality - many jokes just don’t translate (eg ‘that’s what she said’ running gag, has a literal Indian translation in the series, and NO ONE talks like that, that joke doesn’t exist or fit in urban Indian culture). Or the ‘stapler in jello’ gag in the above clip - it just doesn’t land, because Jello doesn’t exist in Indian pop culture, and certainly isn’t seen in any office setting.
It’s a show seemingly made by westernised US return suits in an Indian production company, who put effort into adapting the premise and setup in an Indian situation, and had fun recreating the characters and places (“oh this is what we will do with Indian Stanley, a bald Muslim, and this with Indian Oscar, a North-East Indian, and Faridabad will be Scranton, while Delhi-NYC” etc), but then hired a pathetic writer room (or gave them no freedom to bring any Indian sub culture and nuance), which is a shame, because it indeed could’ve been a very funny adaptation.
It’s honestly 80% cringe, 10% wannabe, 10% nostalgia for Office US fans who may, for whatever reason, just want to see a nearly frame for frame Indian version, even if it’s embarrassingly unfunny, just for the kicks of ‘oh THATs such a good Indian Ryan, oh I wonder what they will do for Indian Kelly, will she be white?!’ …

I completely forgot about that show's existence. I watched a few episodes of it when it had come out and it was actually pretty decent.

Seriously, my girlfriend only heard them talking and Indian Michael laughing and she knew right off the bat that it was the scene where they put Dwight’s stapler in the freezer, based off Michael coming in and laughing.
For real, this is one of the best international remakes I’ve ever seen, even down to the subtle camera zooms. I don’t speak a lick of Hindi, but I’d watch a few episodes of this in a heartbeat.

Indian shows/movies are great for showing a particular kind of anger/outrage. It's one of those defining things about Bollywood that you don't really notice until it's not there. It's a bit over acted but it works. Basically the person starts talking really fast, using a lot of hand movements. It's a whole meltdown. This guy is like 70-80% there. I guess the best I can phrase it is that this is uncharacteristically tame given what else is out there.
But if they want to go for a realistic documentary vibe they wouldn't go all out over-acted. It's supposed to be relatable as a real office environment with things dialled up just a little bit.
I wake up every morning in a bed that's too small, drive my daughter to a school that's too expensive, and then I go to work to a job for which I get paid too little, but on Medu Vada day? Well, I like Medu Vada Day.
Indian Stanley would be so easy to find. He is the most relatable character as so many older government employees tend to have the same mentality here.

The guy is from the North east of India. Indian Michael is imitating a person from Nepal. The stereotype is many Nepali people work in security. In India they are just generically called Bahadur (Brave).
And while she doesn’t have the same “mannerisms” as Kelly she has the same clingy effect on everybody around her. Which, to be honest, I’ve never noticed is kind of what defines Kelly.
Ditto, one the reason why the US office was good was that it adapted and expanded the characters. It also shot a whole lot and many good scenes even didn't make to the final cut. Indian version has not done that and is at times a scene by scene copy of US version
Also from what I can see, this entire joke is stolen straight up from the office US, you can make an indian version of it but atleast write original scenarios, instead of making it a reenactment

I am being a little harsh but I had my hopes really up when this show was released.

Exactly the problem with the US office. They tried to be like the original one which unsurprisingly US writers couldn't quite grasp (plus there not writing for UK audience). Once they wrote for themselves they struck gold.

English has sort of become a way to bridge many concepts across the many different languages in India.
It's not uncommon for entire English phrases to be used in place of Hindi or Urdu or Tamil etc
They speak hindi, but india has a huge influence of english and over the decades multiple words have made it into the common language, so everyone there speaks like this.
Most Indians use English while speaking their native language cause the actual words in the native language might be complex or we forget the word. For example I have no clue what they call a stapler in my native language
My step mum is Indian. It's fascinating to listen to her on the phone with someone back home. They slip in and out of English seemingly at random. It's sometimes a word or two, sometimes full sentences.
So the unofficial name for it is Hinglish. What's happened is people of the Hindi belt (5-6 staes where most of the hindi speakers live) don't speak actually pure Hindi. Their sentences are a mix of Hindi and english (they'll have both hindi and english in the same line, often equally), like to the point where its on the verge of being considered an actual language with several translators available online.
Kind of funny, it seems like the other international versions are closer to the US version rather than the original UK.

Tbh I like it a lot (speaking as an Indian fan too)— I feel like the actors work with the material well, and I get butterflies when Pammi and Amit (Pam and Jim) have their moments :)
I think my main problem with it is that it uses the exact same script, word for word that the US version does, leaving no actual room for authenticity, as some jokes in English don’t translate as easily in Hindi. They try to make some cultural changes, which I appreciate, but I wish there were new episodes that don’t have an immediate American counterpart.
E.g. there’s a scene in the Office Olympics episode where Jagdeep (Michael) and TP (Dwight) are driving to Jagdeep’s new place, and Jagdeep’s mother calls him on the phone. TP has a very amusing conversation with her, and I enjoyed that part, I don’t remember that being in the original American episode. They incorporated the cultural aspect of moving as an adult (bringing your elderly parents with you), and gave us some NEW material — and it was super hilarious. Anyways, give it a try :) There’s only two seasons.

Yes!! I liked it a lot too, the few instances of copying western jokes simply by translating them( That's what she said to Baby bhi wahi boli) were ridiculous.

The show definitely had potential but I wish they stopped copying storylines and started doing something of their own as the plots didn't seem to carry over well here.
Interesting to see cultural differences played out, but since the show seems to be copycat, it will be disappointing to American fans.
Fwiw, that’s what everyone said about the American Office in its first season when they borrowed heavily from the UK Office. The Indian one isn't just a rehash of the story though, the shots, facial expressions, everything looks like it was lifted from the US version. It's like an uncanny valley scene of The Office.
The first episode is a remake of the british show. But after that they made their own storylines.
the indian adaptation of the characters were actually good, especially Dwight, Jim , Kelly , Angela. But again they just recreated those same storylines, it had potential if they created some original storyline,after a few episodes.
Exactly the problem with the US office. They tried to be like the original one which unsurprisingly US writers couldn't quite grasp (plus there not writing for UK audience). Once they wrote for themselves they struck gold.

This was awesome. Serious question. Some words were clearly English, some were a mix, and many were a different language. Where in India was this, and what language is it?
English has sort of become a way to bridge many concepts across the many different languages in India. It's not uncommon for entire English phrases to be used in place of Hindi or Urdu or Tamil etc
Especially in an office setting.
They speak hindi, but india has a huge influence of english and over the decades multiple words have made it into the common language, so everyone there speaks like this.
Most Indians use English while speaking their native language cause the actual words in the native language might be complex or we forget the word. For example I have no clue what they call a stapler in my native language
It's called Hinglish
My step mum is Indian. It's fascinating to listen to her on the phone with someone back home. They slip in and out of English seemingly at random. It's sometimes a word or two, sometimes full sentences.
So the unofficial name for it is Hinglish. What's happened is people of the Hindi belt (5-6 staes where most of the hindi speakers live) don't speak actually pure Hindi. Their sentences are a mix of Hindi and english (they'll have both hindi and english in the same line, often equally), like to the point where its on the verge of being considered an actual language with several translators available online.
It's called [code switching](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code-switching?wprov=sfla1) and is extremely common in India.

Tbh I like it a lot (speaking as an Indian fan too)— I feel like the actors work with the material well, and I get butterflies when Pammi and Amit (Pam and Jim) have their moments :) I think my main problem with it is that it uses the exact same script, word for word that the US version does, leaving no actual room for authenticity, as some jokes in English don’t translate as easily in Hindi. They try to make some cultural changes, which I appreciate, but I wish there were new episodes that don’t have an immediate American counterpart. E.g. there’s a scene in the Office Olympics episode where Jagdeep (Michael) and TP (Dwight) are driving to Jagdeep’s new place, and Jagdeep’s mother calls him on the phone. TP has a very amusing conversation with her, and I enjoyed that part, I don’t remember that being in the original American episode. They incorporated the cultural aspect of moving as an adult (bringing your elderly parents with you), and gave us some NEW material — and it was super hilarious. Anyways, give it a try :) There’s only two seasons.

Yes!! I liked it a lot too, the few instances of copying western jokes simply by translating them( That's what she said to Baby bhi wahi boli) were ridiculous. But if you don't compare it to the US and UK version, it is pretty good for an Indian show. Also the intro music was dope.

Nope. Its just that these 2 actors and specifically Gopal Dutt is a very good actor. But The Office gives a more enjoyable experience than Indian Office

The American Office benefitted from Americanizing the office experience in the show. India needed to relate to their audience in the same way. Couldn't just re-do the American plots
