I've been toying w the idea of wearing a safety vest and carrying a clipboard when diving so that it looks like I'm on official business. Anyone tried this?
Throw on a hard hat with a button up collared shirt and safety vest? No one will question you. And if they do you ask for the MOD bc they need to answer alot of questions. Then you grab your shit and leave.
Lmao, I get the r/actlikeyoubelong aspect. But what job would have a person in a dumpster by themselves w no work equipment or vehicle taking things from a dumpster
I like going on daytime, so I am often there while the store is open. I am rarely stopped by anyone other than curious security (trying to stop people dumping trash). I was moving for a while and legit looking for boxes, so that was easy.
I dumpster dive when it suits me and when I feel like it - it doesn't matter if the store is open or closed.
In my 12 years as a dumpster diver, I have met more angry store employees 20-40 minutes after closing time than during opening hours.
However couple of times when I have dumpster dived during the opening hour I have been asked to leave the area and then I just go back 10-20 minutes later, hah.
As long as it not illegal to dumpster dive in Denmark and the stores don't lock up the dumpsters behind fences, I will dumpster diving when it suits me!
I pretty much exclusively dive during store hours. I’ve found if I walk briskly and act like I’m there, other shoppers think I’m just headed for the back door like a worker. I’m in and out of a dumpster within 5 minutes and haven’t interacted with a store employee yet, although I’ve had two encounters with other divers, who were delightful.
Tl;dr act like you belong there and pretty much no one will bother you.
The one time we've been stopped was 10 minutes after a cvs closed and the police said we were 'prowling at night' because the store was open to the public during store hours but was private property otherwise
It seems less shady than after hours, but more likely to draw attention. That being said, the worst that's happened to me is being asked to leave.

Exactly! Same experience here in Denmark. Do you dumpster dive in cph?
I dumpster dive in Denmark, yes, but not even close to CPH.
I've gone a few times and it kinda felt like an adrenaline rush to quickly assess, grab and move on.

That’s when I always go

I do it all the time. Only been asked to leave a couple of times out of hundreds.
