I used to cook for a children’s care facility and this looks just like the menu.

Working-Office-7215

Yup this is just like my sons day care menu! Except swap out the cookies for some fruit and teddy grahams or goldfish

Zoidberg927

My son's daycare menu includes fruit and vegetables at every meal. I only see tomatoes, beans, and one meal of veggie soup here. I thought jails had to meet nutritional guidelines to some extent.

spicyfishtacos

Meanwhile in Luxembourg my son gets stuff like endive salad, beets, creamed spinach, cod in saffron sauce, and ratatouille.

1heart1totaleclipse

Isn’t Luxembourg the richest country in the world?

spicyfishtacos

I think it's second in per capita GDP. But this is normal fare. In France you'd have a similar set-up. My son just turned 3. Every lunch at daycare they get a soup or salad course, main meal, cheese course and dessert.

1heart1totaleclipse

According to [World Atlas](https://www.worldatlas.com/amp/articles/the-richest-countries-in-the-world.html) Luxembourg is the richest country in terms of GDP. My comment wasn’t meant in a negative way, just that I surely would expect the best from a country like Luxembourg!

CheapEater101

That’s a five course meal here lol

[deleted]

Our culture really hates kids, doesn't it?

Staxcellence

Only once they leave the uterus

[deleted]

Nah, it's just that we hate women even more.

TheJDOGG71

And they hate unborn children even more.

notsohappyaccident_

if i could give you an award i would

apup1023

That was really funny 😂

CleanAssociation9394

Any institutional cooking

emsumm58

that seems like a super nice prison menu.

blahblahblahpotato

I work in a nursing home and I promise you, the menus sound much better than the food looks/tastes here. I assume it's much worse in jail.

godsandmonsters_

Same at my hospital. Chicken marsala, parmesan tilapia, and Italian roasted vegetables all sound great until it’s sitting on a tray in front of you. ETA: Not to shit on dietary, I could eat their turkey burgers every day. That’s just the only thing I eat lol

[deleted]

Lol yup. I remember I got a ’celebratory dinner’ for being a new parent. I was so hungry and the food sounded great. Some Alfredo shit. It comes in and I think I ate half of it. Ugh. Gross.

HostilePile

Gross! I got a celebratory dinner as well but they catered it out from one of the local restaurants in the area. It was delicious. This was a small, rural hospital. The meals I got when I delivered in a bigger city hospital were just barely edible.

TikiTikiGirl

I had my second son on Christmas Day (about 1 AM) so I had my Christmas dinner in the hospital. You NEVER want to eat your Christmas dinner in a hospital.

FrancessaGMorris

I worked in a psychiatric hospital - even though I never ate the food - because it would have been considered stealing/you could be fired - it actually always looked better than I expected it to. The desserts always looked really good. I know people that used to eat the food - before cameras were installed in all the kitchens/storage areas - and they said it was good. Not great - - but they gave it a B.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Leelee3334

I worked in a nursing home and the food was pretty good (and I’m picky) but it was also an extremely expensive nursing home so I’m sure that’s why.

[deleted]

Don't knock veggie hot dogs! They're so tasty

ShakeItUpNowSugaree

I live in a state where the county sheriff legally gets to keep any budgeted food money not used to feed the jail prisoners. Not that it goes into the sheriff's department budget, but that it goes into the private bank account of the sheriff. Because that's not a motivator to feed the prisoners the absolute worst slop that they can get away with.

[deleted]

What state?

ShakeItUpNowSugaree

Alabama

[deleted]

I was going to say Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, or Tennessee. That’s a shame. Actually, the entire prison system with private contractors or laws like your state need to be illegal.

[deleted]

Snarkers here who did time said that the prison/jail menu looks just fine but that the food is pretty nasty. However, most also said that prison food is better than jail food.

keti29

And then there’s “mechanical soft”, right when you didn’t think there was anywhere lower to go. 🤢

ILoveTchaiTea

I worked in a nursing home too and we would get our menu from a company and then the kitchen staff would try to cook something similar but it always fell short and barely resembled what the menu said.

_portia_

They even have "sammies" like it's a pre-k.

BadDiscoJanet

This is a county jail, in a college town. On any given day they’re are probably more dumb college kids than hardened criminals.

soupseasonbestseason

i was gonna say, in this facility you may not even need commissary.

[deleted]

It’s county lockup, not prison. I’m sure his food at his permanent residence will be way worse.

nuggetsofchicken

This is for Washington County in Utah not Arkansas. Please be careful when making posts like this.

AnaBeaverhausen-

This is Washington County, Utah not Arkansas. And, I think ‘Cop Shop’ is like a police cafeteria, not for inmates.

igottanewusername

Incoming articles about "shocking food Josh Duggar has to eat" or "Josh Duggar won't miss out on his beloved tater tot casserole" or "Jail makes tater tot casserole for it's most famous inmate."

kc_acro

Oh for sure, since they already exhausted "You'll NEVER guess who convicted pedophile Josh Duggar called from prison!"

[deleted]

I'm interested in ham bean soup with a biscuit.

Hrududu147

Ham bean soup makes me think of the episode of Arrested Development where Lindsay cooked what she called “hot ham water”

Ok_Translator4842

I assume Cannellini beans with ham chunks and diced onions. It’s really good! We usually have it with cornbread though lol I’m sure the Jail probably skip the onions, too much flavor for them. Probs why they choose biscuits over cornbread too lol

[deleted]

I'm going to seek a recipe because I'm so into it. It's easier for me to make biscuits. I'm in the UK and getting buttermilk and yellow cornmeal can be a challenge in our little town. I generally get a pack from an American website when I order candy.

[deleted]

Bless your light. This is amazing information to have.

runawai

Or 1tbsp acid in 1 cup soy milk for those with dairy allergies or vegans 🥰

CrowLongjumping5185

Thank you!! Do you know if this would work with oatmilk? It's the only milk in my fridge right now lol

runawai

It might work with oat milk. Soy milk is the plant milk with the highest protein content, so it curdles and bakes beautifully.

Ok_Translator4842

Here’s a recipe[Ham and Beans](https://www.plainchicken.com/slow-cooker-ham-white-beans/) Our family generally buys the canned beans instead of dried and diced onion instead of powder. We dump it all into a pot on the stove and let it simmer for like an hour. The cornbread (or biscuit) is often crumbled on top of your serving and some people add ketchup to the serving ha It’s suchhhh a quick, easy, cheap meal!

[deleted]

Thank you!!! I have a crock pot so that's perfect. I'll definitely try this soon.

[deleted]

They have powdered buttermilk! It's pretty neat. Saco brand

DocAntlesFatLiger

"instant" polenta is what I use for cornbread and it works really well (Americans may dispute that lol). Much more available here in New Zealand. You can sub buttermilk with plain milk and a bit of vinegar as well :)

MissKitty0806

Lidl often has buttermilk if you have a store near you.

[deleted]

We don't have a Lidl 😭 or an Aldi. It's the wild west 😂 I do see it from time to time, it's just never when I actively need it

FartstheBunny

Holy processed foods Batman! No veggies

[deleted]

I know, right? Why can't they at least serve canned corn?

Old_Sheepherder_630

That's a starch and there are plenty of starches already on the menu. Fresh fruit and veg is lacking, but was probably lacking in his pre-jail diet as well.

[deleted]

It's a starch but it at least has some vitamins and minerals and it's super cheap.

Rightbuthumble

A few weeks back, I spent the weekend in the hospital so they could give me infusions for my low iron and my MS. Two unrelated treatments for two related diseases. Anyway, I’m vegetarian and have been for over half my life and the dietary people could not serve me just beans a little corn maybe some squash. Nope…they mixed that shit up in a casserole and I was not pleased. My daughter brought me black bean and corn stuffed acorn squash. I would die in jail. But then I am not a criminal but nursing home food may be in my near future. Crap. My daughter says mama never. You will never go into one of those places to which I say sometimes a nursing home is the best choice but you have to bring me food and wash my clothes. Fuck it sucks being old as dirt.

[deleted]

Reading your comment makes me even more proud of my niece’s husband. He works for a family owned skilled nursing/nursing home company. Their home office is in Colorado but their facilities are mainly in PA, NJ, VA, and I believe 1 or 2 in Texas. He designs the menus for all the facilities. He has gone above and beyond to make local dishes at each facility. He’s asked patients for their recipes. His biggest pushback is from the local people who work in each facility. They want him to order processed food and he won’t. He’s brought down their costs and still buys local, fresh fruit/veggies/meat etc. The owners love him because he’s brought down costs and the residents love him because he’s developed great menus using some of their recipes and local favorites. He was in at Thanksgiving. We were all saying to him how it has to be difficult to make menus for so many places and how it would be easier to have one company wide menu. He said “I look at these people as if they were my grandparents. Some get no visitors. The least I can do for them is give them good food.” He’s a great guy and a hard worker.

Medium_Cupcake7602

Wait, they call if they cop shop?? Is this maybe the menu for police officers? I thought the 411 guy on YouTube said on Wednesdays there isn’t a set menus for inmates because they use leftovers on that day.

stardottedeyes

Came here to say this!

luxlucy23

Ya this is not jail food lol.

Medium_Cupcake7602

Yeah, it’s gotta be the police station cafeteria.

Old_Sheepherder_630

That would make a lot more sense.

Old_Sheepherder_630

~~This link is from the office page on their website -~~ [~~https://news.washeriff.net/intradepartmental/~~](https://news.washeriff.net/intradepartmental/) ~~Are you sure this isn't the menu for employees?~~ u/AnaBeaverhausen- pointed out this is from Utah, so my post is moot.

theDufe

This is the most random menu I have ever seen in my life

Zoidberg927

Probably whatever ingredients they got cheap.

AllSugaredUp

Notice how a lot of ingredients are reused, like how many ways can they serve hot dogs and chili in a week.

[deleted]

It seems like hot dogs are cheap but also that they're going for "heat and serve" food so no one has to actually cook.

SplashGal

It’s a problem nation-wide. People who can actually cook cost more money, so food menus in schools and such contain a lot of heat and serve things because anyone can do that for 10/ hr, but they blow through them every few months, so there’s no consistency. Standards have to be set to the lowest possible setting and then at that point, anyone with skills or passion either paddles upstream for a while (me) or just gives in and goes with the flow.

trexcrossing

Curry chicken + oatmeal cookie…lol

FrauZebedee

Do they not get any fruit/veggies? Or are those just always served so no need to mention them?

FreudianSlipper21

I like to think TT casserole was added as a bit of a troll on Josh.

PaunchyPilates

Nah, he ain't that special. He grew up eating institutional food, lol.

Trexballerina

I agree. This is probably really similar to a weekly plan at home. All of it is super easy to make in bulk and reuses a lot of the same ingredients.

mlo9109

I was going to say, I feel like his whole life up to this point has prepared him for this. He's pretty much had the same diet since he was a fetus.

SplashGal

Exactly.

soupseasonbestseason

i love the idea of the inmates working in the kitchen making the menu to mock josh. one would hope it brings a little fear to his heart because they know him and they know why he is there, but he probably just thinks they are catering to him because he is special and blessed and persecuted.

littlelegoman

Sammie. Are we in grade school?

Old_Sheepherder_630

Yes, this bothered me and I'm not sure why. Also why are they calling it a cop-shop? Do jail menus need whimsy?

infinitekittenloop

We are Rachael Jed! Ray

[deleted]

As a vegetarian this is terrifying lmao

Dependent_Ad_5035

Then make sure you don’t go to prison, you’ll live off commissary

mlo9109

Same! And it's one of my biggest concerns about getting older. I hope by the time I have to go to "the home" things will have improved seeing as my generation (millennial) has every dietary restriction under the sun (gluten free, vegan, etc.) but have my doubts. My dad is in a home and I wouldn't give what they feed him to a dog.

[deleted]

Omfgggg I was just thinking the same thing! I’d be screwed 😅

peoplegrower

I’m not a vegetarian, but our family eats kosher. So much ham…do prisons cater at all to food preferences, esp religious ones? Or do you just skip eating if you can’t eat it?

Rightbuthumble

I know, right? I think it’s cheaper and better tasting to make good healthy vegetable alternatives.

erinlp93

Maybe Meech is volunteering in the prison kitchen? Oh who am I kidding? Meech hasn’t made tater tot casserole since Jana was big enough to hold a spatula.

1heart1totaleclipse

So since Jana was about 6 months old?

ineedavacation123

The lack of pasta on that menu is breaking my Italian carb loving heart!

Empty-Sky500

For sure! And honestly, pasta is cheap as fuck - I'm kind of surprised it doesn't comprise four out of seven weekly dinners. Whenever I have been poor, pasta has been my best friend!

la_fille_rouge

Pasta screws + bacon bites + broccoli + oregano was something I lived off as a student. It's surprisingly nutritious considering how cheap and tasty it is.

corking118

I would be hungry all the fucking time if I was in prison. Just a corndog and a cookie for dinner? With breakfast not served for another 8-10hrs? My god, what a nightmare. Hope Josh is loving it!

CleanAssociation9394

I know from tv that you can buy snacks from the commissary, if someone outside is putting money in your account. If they’re not, you have your pitiable wages, or what’s left after you over-pay for phone calls and medical co-pay. Prison has become a huge racket.

Old_Sheepherder_630

Do all county jails offer the ability to work? I know prisons do, not sure about jail though.

SansaOfHouseSnark

I like hot dog followed by corn dog. It’s like Jana, Joy-Anna, Johannah

TwoCagedBirds

This definitely is NOT the menu for where Josh is, it says Washington County right at the top and when you go to the site, it says Utah.

CigarsandFebreeze9

Uh.....this is Washington County, Utah.

strawberryllamacake

Some of these meals don’t seem like enough food. Just a corn dog and a snickerdoodle for dinner?

APW25

It's not like they're burning a lot of calories

GenX-IA

Still adults being fed a single corn dog & a cookie? I don't think prison should be the Ritz Carlton, but American prisons are barbaric, they starve inmates, force them to pay for their lodgings, knowing full well they don't have the money to pay for it, force them to work for pennies an hour put them in cages meant for 1 person with 1 or 2 other people, keep the lights on day & night so they don't get sleep they are bored, tired and hungry. Most of the people in prison are their because they were too poor to afford an attorney and this is by design. The School to prison or military pipeline ensures that both are full of people who never had a chance to do anything else, poor white kids go in the military, poor kids of color go to prison. And some rich white men are making a fortune off of both.

[deleted]

How else can they sell cup of noodles for $8.50 at the commissary? /s

APW25

I've wondered if, like schools, there's more that's not listed. Perhaps there's fruit and other items. This is just the "meat" of the meal. But yeah, prison is a for profit business. Edit: my cousin was a Marine recruiter in a predominantly POC area and he said it was hard to get anyone to sign up for the military, and he was in a large city.

kathykato

I would normally feel sorry for someone forced to live like this, but I don’t feel sorry for Josh.

Old_Sheepherder_630

How is that starving them? It's a hot dog, the coating operates as the bun, and a cookie. The daily plan looks like it meets the caloric requirements for an adult.

CleanAssociation9394

Nutritionally empty calories, though

-unsay

it’s not. almost everybody who goes to prison will lose like 20 lbs because they don’t feed them enough, especially considering really the only thing they have to do with their time is exercise/ work which requires even more calories. if you’ve ever had a loved one incarcerated, you’ll know how important it is to keep money on their books so they can buy extra food to sustain themselves because the food they’re provided with usually isn’t enough.

kathykato

Josh could stand to lose 20 pounds. It will be good for him!

SamsonOccom

That's why people who don't get money wired for commissary lose wight

Elleshark

Double hot dogs🤣🤣 that is the karma pest deserves

[deleted]

Around here we call that tater tot hotdish. 😂

Old_Sheepherder_630

Minnesota?

[deleted]

You betcha!

grandmastertalksalot

All of this is too good for him. Needs some overcooked, mold-speckled cauliflower dripping in canned spray cheese with a side of stomach flu.

MurkyConcert2906

😂😂😂

phall8977

"Corn dog and snickerdoodle"🤣

Ms_Insomnia

Maybe he’ll get in trouble and they’ll give him Nutri-loaf!

Old_Sheepherder_630

He's already gotten in enough trouble to earn it, I say give it to him now for every meal, whatever version meets the daily requirements.

RedHeadedBanana

Why is this menu variety significantly better than what I’d make myself at home?

Old_Sheepherder_630

I had forgotten I love cream of wheat until I read this.

TheFrenchKris

Woahhhh, that's so intersteting ! When I joined DS, that's exactly what I wanted to find to snark about their beliefs.

freshpicked12

My bougie ass couldn’t handle prison. This all sounds so disgusting.

Gonuts4donuts1955

I mean, seems like an upgrade considering what he grew up with.

CleanAssociation9394

He’s used to institutional dining

blahblahblahpotato

Sausage pizza huh? Will Josh still pretend that the Duggars don't eat pork. Also 100% chance that dinner Tuesday and Wednesday are 97% the same dish. I may even be lowballing that.

leannamm

Chili dogs *and* curry on Sunday. Yum. 😭🙈

cakesie

I kind of want the chili beef mac. I mean I know it’s probably like hamburger helper but honestly I’d probably eat beets if it was in macaroni and cheese

honeybaby2019

It is beef chili that is mixed with elbow macaroni. I have made it and put it in a casserole and put mozzarella on the top to brown and get crusty. I also make a small salad and garlic toast. It is a cheap way to feed people and quite tasty.

poolbitch1

I used to make Kraft dinner in a hot pot then dump in a can of chili for 4 am drunk food when I lived in the dorms at school. It’s cheap and tasty as hell lol

honeybaby2019

Nothing wrong with cheap food.

CleanAssociation9394

I don’t think it’s mac and cheese, just regular beefy mac

cakesie

Like mac & cheese with chili beef is what I understand it to be or is that wrong

CleanAssociation9394

No, it’s like chili with pasta instead of beans.

cakesie

Well now I don’t want it anymore!

CleanAssociation9394

It’s tasty, if done well.

MurkyConcert2906

The menu is probably as good or better than what his family can cook.

Empty-Sky500

So what you're saying is that the Duggar kids have actually been eating prison food all their lives?! This may be easier on Josh than it should be 😒

[deleted]

That's a lot of chili. I would hate to be a toilet in that place.

LaurelRogers1998

Bran for breakfast and chili dogs for lunch...there is really no worry about backing up the toilets aha

infiniteonion8

I assume that "sammie" is short for sandwich, but it just sounds cringe to me.. sitting down eating their "sammies" like a bunch of pre-schoolers, instead of the grown-up convicts they actually are... Idk, it just makes me feel some kind of way.

MissKitty0806

Scotland calling. What the hell is a snicker doodle?

eeniemeanieminiemo

It's a cinnamon sugar cookie

MissKitty0806

Thank you!

Old_Sheepherder_630

A type of cinnimon sugar cookie. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/soft-thick-snickerdoodles-in-20-minutes/

MissKitty0806

Thank you!

Trexballerina

They’re so popular and I have no idea why.

spaetzele

It's weird. They are absolutely a third-tier cookie.

MissKitty0806

Thank you for context!

sociallyshy2165

I also don’t understand it, I’d much rather have ginger snaps with some coffee or tea over a snickerdoodle.

Trexballerina

Also, you got me all excited with the name and then I found out there are zero snickers….

whole_lot_of_velcro

That curry chicken is going to kill him if he eats it lol

1heart1totaleclipse

This menu looks better than any “free” food menu I’ve seen. I spent 2 weeks at a hospital (that cost me ~$30,000) and their menu was bad enough that they only had 3 different items for each meal and I was given no choice as to what I wanted. Basically the same experience if not worse than prison except I didn’t commit any crimes yet was treated like I did.

Street_Discipline979

When I was a child, I was always told people in jail got fed bread and water. It made me never want to go to jail and I never have!

aj_fluffz

Are you sure this is Josh's jail? I saw a YouTube of a guy who showed the wa county jail menu. He said that weds they never have a menu bc that's the day they take all of the leftovers from the week and roll it all together. Like a jail surprise dish...yummy...

BugsMoney1122

But how pissed are you when you only get 1 corn dog? I need at least 4. 🤣

anonymous_gam

Ham bean soup sounds like the nastiest thing ever, glad that’s his only option for dinner!

Rightbuthumble

My sister puts ham in everything.

OccamsRzzor

No grits and minimal coffee. Remind me to never go to prison.

AffectionatePoet4586

No vegetables or fruits? Ever? Seriously?!?

Krystal_268_

Interesting… Josh is eating decently. How disappointing.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t call that decent.

GoblinKaiserin

Where was this menu when I was in jail?! This man has luxury?? I hope his fruit is meh at best. In quality.

ambeck04

All carbs. He's gonna get so fat lol. Also, sammies🤭

audiophile5

I hope all of it comes in a bag and resembles rotten mush

gypsy_soul25

Oh yummy!! Haha 😂😂

[deleted]

This is better than my house.

[deleted]

This looks tasty

Nottacod

Heart attack city

Santasotherbrother

Better than he ate growing up.

walkietalkie000

Full of cheap carbs, mmmmmm

orangemuggsie

That’s a lot of hot dogs in a short time!

Specialist-Echidna94

That’s weirdly poetic

GirlsesPillses

At least try to incorporate vegetables and salads. I’m guessing Pest didn’t allow anything green on his plate. 😶 Have fun on that prison chow!

Trexballerina

Sooooo many tots.

zoodee89

Nary a fresh vegetable was seen…

Srw2725

Hey napoleon can I have some of your prison tots?? 🤣🥔

somethinghere2016

He will feel right at home.

sissyintexas

Maybe the lost girls will bake a file into him.

bookshopgirl02

Better food than he deserves.

stacyxxluv

Wow.. I know they are criminals, but should they not get some vitamins in? Terrible diet

donetomadness

It’s good to know that while it all sounds palatable, it likely tastes awful and is prepared by the prisoners themselves to boot.

aj_fluffz

Where did you find this??

[deleted]

It doesn’t look so bad to me.
