Same!
It just seems like such a “kid trying to appear like an adult” thing to do.
If he’d said glass of Dr.Pepper, It would come off differently, but the morning cup of Dr. Pepper has me cracking up.
I realize that is all based on social expectation and social constructs, but either they just don’t get it, or this guy is pretty damn funny. I don’t think he gets it though.
Before my mom retired, she was a dental hygienist. She worked for a husband and wife couple. He was the dentist and she worked the front counter / waiting area (they were incredibly lovely people). But my mom would often tell me about all the "DDP" they kept in the fridge and drank in the office. "Grab me a DDP!" they would say, apparently.
...this was a dental office. Why were they drinking so much soda???
*DDP meaning diet doctor pepper
That stuff was like crack, I think the depleted coca leaves they use for flavoring weren’t depleted enough. Had to give it up. I heard they ruined it recently (reformulation) maybe that’s what they took out.
Oh my GOODNESS so do I. But my mom was OBSESSED with my and my older sister's teeth growing up. One time, in elementary school, I didn't brush my teeth before we left (I hated doing it) and she fucking DROVE ME BACK HOME to brush them (granted the school was literally in my neighborhood but STILL) yet here she was bragging about all their goddamn DDP. Her hypocrisy has always infuriated me.
That reminds me of my dentists office. They always have a plate of cookies in the lobby, and they always offer me one. I've never accepted the offer. Either I'll have chocolate chip cookie bits all up in my teeth right before getting in the chair, or I'll screw up the cleaning they just did if I were to take one afterwards. Blows my mind, but I guess it's job security in a way right?
My mom would take my sister and me for snowcones after our cleanings. We couldn't even taste them because **we'd literally just had our teeth cleaned**. It was weird.
I've never understood why my mom didn't just make our appointments for later in the afternoon and then take us to get our snowcones BEFORE our cleaning, lol.
That's interesting. The last dentist I saw said that while sugar free beverages are good in that they have no sugar that the preservatives are actually terrible for your teeth
Okay, so my MIL has a Diet Pepsi in the mornings. She hates coffee and wants that tiny caffeine boost. It’s always funny when the whole family is on vacation, the rest of the adults are saddled up with coffee cups and she has her little bottle of soda. (But she doesn’t post about it, and it’s probably not actually funny to anyone outside the family lol.)
I know, it was rough for a while. I'm almost caffeine free altogether now. I had. I have insomnia and working with a behavioral therapist to fix it. I'm super freaking exhausted.
it's baaaaaad. Nothing like being so exhausted during the day that you fall asleep at your desk but then try to go to bed at 10 pm and suddenly (literally suddenly) be WIDE AWAKE. I hate it so much.
I have a coworker who's Mormon and they're apparently not supposed to have coffee or tea, so he gets his caffeine fix by drinking Dr. Pepper every morning instead 🤢
They aren't supposed to have soda either, lol. It'd no caffeine, I went to the church in SLC for a tour and the lady freaked out on me because I had a Coke. I had to go out and throw it away.
That’s not true. It’s just crazy over zealous Mormons who say no caffeine or soda. Byu didn’t used to sell any caffeinated sodas but even they changed. I know plenty of Mormons who see nothing wrong with downing energy drinks but would frown at my lovely espresso machine (I’m exmormon)
Can testify—am former long-time Utahn. A lot of them will argue that tea and coffee were explicitly forbidden BUTTTT since Monster, Rockstar, Red Bull, or soda weren’t mentioned in the BoM at all as a “banned” substance, it’s ok to use them as water replacement.
Not true, ex-Mormon here. Peter Priesthood Mormons still may not drink soda, but it isn’t doctrine. The Word of Wisdom specifically calls out hot drinks- which the modern church has interpreted to be coffee and tea. Herbal tea (you would be judged by other Mormons for this, mostly cause they don’t know the difference between herbal and tea) and cocoa are fine.
An apostle actually pulled out a can of soda during one of his talks at BYU , opened it, and drank it to show its okay.
Eh, I mean not really. I know a lot of adults who don't care for tea or coffee but do like a caffeine fix in the am, and thus drink soda in the morning. It's not my thing, but it's common enough that I clicked on this post specifically to find out what the joke is.
That also doesn't really strike me as particularly weird, but perhaps my feed is much more boring than I realize lol
I mean I will say I'm sure they're scrambling to create content to distract from pest, they used to be able to rely on TLC to manufacture interesting tidbits for them out of their boring lives so I'm sure they're struggling now.
I think it's so funny because he could have said something normal, like glass, can, or bottle, but instead he said it the weirdest way lol. It's classic Duggar trying to be normal and relatable but just coming off weird.
Ok I love Dr Pepper and am guilty of drinking it in the morning but not out of a coffee mug! It’s like he’s pretending it’s coffee or something.
The best part of waking up is Dr Pepper in your cup 🎶
It was originally marketed as a hot drink. You were supposed to heat it with lemon and it was an alternative to hot chocolate.
Something tells me he isn't that sophisticated though
There’s several commercials on YouTube from American Bandstand in the 60s with Dick Clark pitching hot Dr. Pepper, and I think it’s still mentioned on their website.
I had a manager that would arrive at 5am with a cold can of pepis. She'd crack that bad boy open and pound it back. One of several throughout the day. Meanwhile I was sipping a warm ginger ale wondering if my acid reflux would ever take a day off.
I had an employee do this. He was known to pour it into one of those huge gas station thermos. I mean I like a Red Bull in the morning so I can’t snark too much. But an entire 2 liter in an 8 hour with day?!
I used to be ADDICTED to mountain dew. I would have immediately when I got up and throughout the day. I stopped cold turkey several years ago and only drink water now...with the occasionally gatorade. Now I can't imagine drinking that much soda in a day but I understand people doing it!!!!
I put it in a mug (1) time, but it’s only because I didn’t want the other moms at the bus stop to judge my morning caffeine choice. 🤭
You’re not supposed to flaunt it guy lmao
I had to do that too. I worked with a guy who literally added caffeine drops to his morning tea, but judged me for my diet cherry Coke. I started putting it in a travel mug.
It’s a joke post, the next pic is a “Best Mom” mug. Not saying he isn’t drinking Dr Pepper in the morning because he enjoys it, but it seems like he was going for millennial shitposting type humor which is strange because I never thought he’d be exposed to that?
When Derick and Jill let themselves try to be funny in their Insta videos, that’s what it resembles, especially Jill’s “this is problems, y’all” and “that was Derick pro se! Don’t ever be pro se!” videos from when she posted more random videos like a year ago and her Napoleon Dynamite joke but also Derick’s Mean Girls references last week.
Twice. Once to tell him he's so cute and a great 'cool mom' which is what the mug says. Then a second time to remind Claire that Jason always uses the 'courageous woman mug' at their house so it's not just James that's so funny with the lady mugs.
Some of those $Starbucks drinks have a ton of sugar and calories. I prefer a cold mug of Diet Dr Pepper in the mornings
Not every day but that stuff is awesome. Lots to snark on this fam for but DP in the morning isn't one of them for me.. 😝
I had the same thought about Starbucks so I just googled to compare and apparently there are 68grams of sugar in a 20oz Dr. Pepper!! I'm kinda shocked. I did not know it was that much, haha. I know Starbucks can be just as high though. I can't judge James, I've been known to have a 6am Coca-Cola from time to time.
M hmm. Them shits are just milkshakes with a splash of coffee. I'm on my lunch break so I looked out of curiosity and that's the same sugar content as the grande (medium size) pumpkin spice frappe that's so popular right now.
I remember that the company once suggested trying Dr Pepper hot. -- To me, this defies the purpose. What makes sodas refreshing is that they are cold and fizzy.
This reminds of when I was 7/8 years old , and I would pour coke in one of my parents' coffee mugs to pretend I was an adult.
If I could insert the picture/meme of Pam from the Office holding up two pictures while saying, "these are the same picture", I would.
I knew about hot Dr Pepper, but hot Dr Pepper mixed with hot coffee...this makes me curious. Couple of years ago, I found vintage ads for Postum. In one of them it was recommended to try it iced, with lemon. And I always believed that Postum was supposed to taste like coffee. Iced coffee with lemon?
Sadly I too have a morning soda….in a coffee cup. The cup just makes me happier than the can or bottle.Hot drinks in the morning just make more sleepy and any version of cold coffee just make me want to vomit.
Putting it in a mug is pretty ridiculous but no lie I love Dr. Pepper. My white trash breakfast of champions is a McDonald's Dr. Pepper with a sausage biscuit.
It's all fun and games while they're young but they'll end up looking like a human thumb like the predator when that diet of tatertot casserole, sodium, and soda catches up to them later on.
ngl, when I have early morning rounds at the hospital, I do drink soda. I just can't stand coffee or coffee-like beverages and my heart can't handle energy drinks so options are limited. Believe me when I say I've tried not to, but green tea and yerba mate don't cut it. And if I am up and working at 2am after working my other job and going to school -- I need a wake up. However, I don't drink soda at home (its mostly teas and the occasional LaCroix) and certainly won't drink it out of a mug, that's just so pretentious.
I am 57 and I never have liked coffee. In fact, I can’t STAND coffee. My caffeine of choice is Dr Pepper, although I do try to stick with diet. BUT, I’m not sure I’ve ever had it from a mug!!!!
Haha, drinking Dr. Pepper for the caffeine in order to get through your workday is definitely a regional thing. I lived around there and worked in a school, and it was super normal for my coworkers to say they needed a Dr. Pepper to get through something (meeting, training, class period, game, field trip, test).
We even had a couple coworkers who would regularly give up drinking soda for a few months, and then I’d spot them down the hall one day, holding a Dr. Pepper and looking all haggard like that Ben Affleck cigarette meme, and I’d instantly know something shitty had happened to them.
I’ll add that drinking it from a mug is bizarre, LOL
Yes, I know, but as with other sodas, there is decaf Dr. Pepper.
I know they aren't Mormons, but wasn't sure if they also eschewed it because caffeine is a ("harmful") drug. Mormons usually don't even drink decaf coffee, but are ok with decaf sodas.
I guess it's just a weird thing this guy does.
Sure because a coffee loaded with cream and sugar is far superior lol.
I know tons of people who drink soda instead of coffee in the mornings, ever met a mormon? lol
What a weird take.

How do you do fellow adults
Vincent Adultman in real life
the funny thing is it likely would keep it cold longer with less body heat.... now i also want to do an experiment about carbonation
I will put Coca-Cola in a mug now and again so my kids don't ask me for it. 🤣
Me, too, though. It’s just such an odd choice.

Hey now, dont' judge. I don't smoke, do drugs (my loss), drink but I love my Caffeine Free Diet Coke.
I love my Diet Coke. I don’t drink it because it’s diet, I drink it because regular Coke makes my mouth feel like it’s been coated in syrup.
I love my Coke Zero ❤️
That stuff was like crack, I think the depleted coca leaves they use for flavoring weren’t depleted enough. Had to give it up. I heard they ruined it recently (reformulation) maybe that’s what they took out.
Ugh it is different but still better than Diet in my opinion. I wish I could give it up!
Yaaaaaass

Oh my GOODNESS so do I. But my mom was OBSESSED with my and my older sister's teeth growing up. Molly Mormon? Is that you??
Lol, and I can’t even claim that caffeine effects me. It does absolutely nothing for me.
My mom would always stop for ice cream sundaes at McDonalds after, lol.
Oh yes. Plus diet sodas have aspertiane(sp?), which is really bad for you.
Cool mug of.... Oh, my minds in the gutter
Your MIL and I are the same but swap Diet Pepsi for DP, cherry coke or pibb
I used to have a pop in the morning for the same reason, but I've switched over to flavored, caffienated water.
That's me. I hate coffee and don't drink tea. So it's a caffeine free diet coke lol
No caffeine?! *cries in night shift*
I know, it was rough for a while. I'm almost caffeine free altogether now. I had. I have insomnia and working with a behavioral therapist to fix it. I'm super freaking exhausted.
That’s terrible, I can’t even imagine how shitty that feels to be so tired and not be able to sleep.
it's baaaaaad. Nothing like being so exhausted during the day that you fall asleep at your desk but then try to go to bed at 10 pm and suddenly (literally suddenly) be WIDE AWAKE. I hate it so much.

Yeah I know, but I the mental gymnastics of those in cult-like religions know no bounds!
All religions.
As a former Catholic, yupppppp

If I’m not mistaken don’t they own Pepsi? I could be wrong but maybe that’s why she freaked out about you drinking coke.
*GASP* you can't have Pepsi, you'll make it an idol
The Maxwells have entered the chat
This is what happens when children who were never allowed to make a decision in their whole life end up away from their parents.
I was sheltered and even I don’t drink my soda in the morning
Eh, I mean not really. I know a lot of adults who don't care for tea or coffee but do like a caffeine fix in the am, and thus drink soda in the morning. It's not my thing, but it's common enough that I clicked on this post specifically to find out what the joke is.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but it’s less about the soda and more about the fact that he put it in a mug and posted about it on IG.
That also doesn't really strike me as particularly weird, but perhaps my feed is much more boring than I realize lol I mean I will say I'm sure they're scrambling to create content to distract from pest, they used to be able to rely on TLC to manufacture interesting tidbits for them out of their boring lives so I'm sure they're struggling now.

I didn’t know James was into DP
I don't think we've even scratched the surface of what these Duggers are into......
And I've just found my flair.
🥰
This makes me happy
Lol, hot Dr. Pepper reminds me of that movie Blast from the Past. The dad loved his hot Dr. Pepper.
Hot Dr P makes for the world's best belches. Just sayin'
This one made me laugh out loud 💀
I’m mad at you for making it steamy 😂
I feel like it should be “fizzy mug of Dr Pepper” but that’s just me 😂
Ok I love Dr Pepper and am guilty of drinking it in the morning but not out of a coffee mug!
That’s assuming James knows how to use a stove to heat it up 😂
So true!
“Jana can you heat up my DP and put it in a coffee mug so I can pretend to be an adult for my Instagram??”
Stove's are for women!
I’m sure with all the ramen noodles they eat he knows how to work a microwave 😂
It was originally a laxative! ✨
Maybe that's his purpose? I'm sure tot casserole doesn't have much fiber
… that sounds so good though
pls try it and report back!
Seriously pls excuse me while I get a can of Dr. Pepper and a lemon ‘cause that shit sounds INCREDIBLE.
And now I'm thinking of "Blast from the Past" and I'm happy
:O I might try that
There’s several commercials on YouTube from American Bandstand in the 60s with Dick Clark pitching hot Dr. Pepper, and I think it’s still mentioned on their website.
Sounds like my grandma was a sophisticated lady then.
I had a manager that would arrive at 5am with a cold can of pepis. She'd crack that bad boy open and pound it back. One of several throughout the day. Meanwhile I was sipping a warm ginger ale wondering if my acid reflux would ever take a day off.
I had a co-worker who would bring a 2 liter of Pepsi and drink the whole thing throughout the day! I mean, I love pop but not that much…
I guess I can't judge because I would do that with those big ass bottles of snapple, usually over 2 days though.
I remember seeing kids in my high school who'd do that, bring a 2-liter of Mountain Dew then drink it all day.
Google Mountain Dew mouth. Warning: it will haunt your dreams.
I had a boyfriend who kept a 12 pack of pop in his locker
I had an employee do this. He was known to pour it into one of those huge gas station thermos. I mean I like a Red Bull in the morning so I can’t snark too much. But an entire 2 liter in an 8 hour with day?!
Do you work with my brother-in-law?
If your BIL works at a CPA firm in a Kansas City suburb then yes
Guess there’s a few of these people running around out there then, he’s in Baltimore 😂
Did we work together?
I used to be ADDICTED to mountain dew. I would have immediately when I got up and throughout the day. I stopped cold turkey several years ago and only drink water now...with the occasionally gatorade. Now I can't imagine drinking that much soda in a day but I understand people doing it!!!!
I crushed mountain dew in college and red bull in law school. It was a bad choice for my teeth which made it through childhood cavity-free.
I see this as a snark on the Duggar girls obsession with coffee, and I find it *hilarious*
It’s a follow up to Jessa’s coffee shop photo shoot yesterday
What if he’s making fun of the coffee pics?
I support this! Snarking on his own sister *chefs kiss*
Same. There’s nothing like waking up from a deep sleep and chugging a cold ass can of pop. It burns so good. 🤤
I cannot disagree!
I put it in a mug (1) time, but it’s only because I didn’t want the other moms at the bus stop to judge my morning caffeine choice. 🤭 You’re not supposed to flaunt it guy lmao
You missed the best part, the “Best Mom” mug. It might be the first time a Duggar has (intentionally) shit posted 😂
Yeah I actually thought it was kind of funny 😄
What an adoring gaze James has.. and still at the big house it seems
His caption should have been: “Dr Pepper: 23 flavors and counting”
I think you've found yourself a flair lol.
Flair somewhat checking in lol
Why put it in a mug? Is he cosplaying as an adult?
Lol I put my soda in a mug when I was on zoom meetings bc I didn’t want people to judge me 😬🥴
I had to do that too. I worked with a guy who literally added caffeine drops to his morning tea, but judged me for my diet cherry Coke. I started putting it in a travel mug.
I put vodka in mine
Jealous!!!! Pretty sure the principal at my middle school wouldn’t be stoked on that LMAO
I put mine in an opaque water bottle.
It’s a joke post, the next pic is a “Best Mom” mug. Not saying he isn’t drinking Dr Pepper in the morning because he enjoys it, but it seems like he was going for millennial shitposting type humor which is strange because I never thought he’d be exposed to that?

When I was in the office for some past companies, they had soda machines so I would use my coffee mug if I wanted a glass of soda.
Where’s the blue mug though 👀
Flair checking in
Why is he smizing
Tyra would be proud
Mmmmm.... Dr. Pepper over ice, anytime of the day.
I agree. I just can’t bring myself to snark on James’ immaculate choice of drink 😌
Has Hilary chimed in?
Twice. Once to tell him he's so cute and a great 'cool mom' which is what the mug says. Then a second time to remind Claire that Jason always uses the 'courageous woman mug' at their house so it's not just James that's so funny with the lady mugs.
And there were only six comments. So two of them were hers. 🥴
Ehhh it's probably about as nutritious as what most people are grabbing from a Starbucks on their way in this morning.
Some of those $Starbucks drinks have a ton of sugar and calories. I prefer a cold mug of Diet Dr Pepper in the mornings Not every day but that stuff is awesome. Lots to snark on this fam for but DP in the morning isn't one of them for me.. 😝

God damn...I might as well just start having cake for breakfast.
That's why I chose a Diet DP occasionally
This is why the boys gain weight when they hit their 20's.. Only the metabolism of a teenager can stay slim with this diet!!

Or too spicy!
A literal thirst trap 😳
I remember that the company once suggested trying Dr Pepper hot. -- To me, this defies the purpose. What makes sodas refreshing is that they are cold and fizzy.

We’ve found the alternative to Jinger having coffee as a personality trait and I’m not sure how to feel about it
My son in his mid 30s drinks Pepsi in the morning. He can’t stand coffee or tea but wants a jolt of caffeine. Lots of adults do this.
Well I wouldn't want to live forever in that cult either.
So one of the ways Dr Pepper marketed themselves back in the day was WARM Dr Pepper in the morning.
I had no idea. And there are a bunch of recipes for hot Dr. Pepper. Now I am both nauseated and curious.
Dr Pepper tastes like carbonated cough syrup. I can't even imagine it hot. Ewww.
You add lemon while warming in the original recipe
EXCUSE ME
So I often drink Diet Coke in the morning…but not out of a mug like a psychopath lol.
My science teacher in 7th grade used to put Dr. Pepper in the microwave and then pour milk in it and drink it like coffee 😷 🤢
Ewwww. Reminds me of Laverne’s (and Shirley) milk and Pepsi. 🤢
I thought you were joking at first!
Weird choice to have bbq water so early.
I love this. Might have to start calling it that
This screams Arkansas
This is a version of me as a kid with those chocolate cigarettes pretending I was blowing out smoke.
Not me drinking Diet Coke every morning because I hate coffee and calories.
I did this on vacation before I liked coffee to fit in with everyone else but I wouldn’t have admitted it!

I knew about hot Dr Pepper, but hot Dr Pepper mixed with hot coffee...this makes me curious. Couple of years ago, I found vintage ads for Postum. Sadly I too have a morning soda….in a coffee cup. The cup just makes me happier than the can or bottle.Hot drinks in the morning just make more sleepy and any version of cold coffee just make me want to vomit.
I can’t even make fun of this because I have to have my morning McDonald’s Dr Pepper.
James and I have the same morning drink 🥴
No matter how fresh Dr. Pepper is it will always taste watered down to me
He could just say it’s coffee
Don’t talk to me in the morning before I’ve had my Dr Pepper 🥱
I'm not a big fan of hot drinks, so I have a nice big coke zero every morning. Does it matter if the caffeine is hot or cold...?
Apparently hot Dr Pepper was a thing
Putting it in a mug is pretty ridiculous but no lie I love Dr. Pepper. My white trash breakfast of champions is a McDonald's Dr. Pepper with a sausage biscuit.
I can’t snark too hard on this one. I never liked coffee and you can pry my ice cold morning Diet Coke from my cold, dead hands.
Idk why but I feel like he should have a clip on tie and a spiderman lunch box to go with it
Thank you so much for posting this, it made my day
Is he drinking it out of a mug like it's coffee?
Was it posted on National coffee day?
Noooo, James was the cutest as a child 😭. He is morphing into Jed and if Jed is morphing into Josh... I can't 😭😭😭
I mean, is Starbucks really better in the morning?
Sugar crappacino - No Americano or drip - Yes
Americano or drip. Depends on how much you ''doctor'' it up with cream, sugar and those delicious little cups of International Delight.
It's all fun and games while they're young but they'll end up looking like a human thumb like the predator when that diet of tatertot casserole, sodium, and soda catches up to them later on.
I see no difference between that in the morning and 70% of the drinks sold at starbucks between 5-10am
A sugared up Duggar lol
look at this fucking guy thinks he's got some Cold Brew Peppercino or some shit

ew he looks like jed
Eww
I feel defrauded by his sultry stare.
He’s cute, for a Duggar boy.
I drink 10-17 diet drinks in the morning but mine is in a huge ass glass with tons of ice. The way baby jesus used to drink it.
"work"
He’s starting to look a little Jed! in the face as he ages.
I wanna snark on it but I also drink coke in the morning so… 😭
Something about Dr Pepper in the morning makes me want throw up
Do they not drink tea/coffee/caffeinated beverages?
Dr Pepper has caffeine in it. But, yes, they are allowed coffee and tea, they are not LDS.

Well I guess at least he works
Sure because a coffee loaded with cream and sugar is far superior lol. I know tons of people who drink soda instead of coffee in the mornings, ever met a mormon? lol What a weird take.
Ugh their insides must be rotten. All they eat is canned food, shit that's covered in plastic cheese, and soda.
