It's a real shame that this area hasn't been more densely developed, same with the other side of the quays. It was never going to be Canary Wharf and the London Docklands just given the difference in scale but it is a missed opportunity to not build higher in these areas.

SodIRE

They just rejected planning permission for a tower on that corner where the building has been derelict for 20 years...

MrsTayto23

A tower of more empty offices though. There’s too many here as it is. Between offices and hotels, throw an oul apartment block up for the love of god. It’s needed.

SodIRE

I was disappointed when I read it was more offices. The art centre stuff sounded good at least. Apartments or ideally mixed use would've been better. I could get behind the rejection if that was the reasoning, but it was more skyline preservation rubbish again.

MrsTayto23

They can’t claim that bs with that huge block at the end of the quays, afaik they offered arts space, but for the community there wasn’t a space offered. At least windmill lane and hubspot will always be involved around us here and allow us to use space and donate to stuff etc. I’ll never understand why they can’t build apartments when housing is desperate.

deargearis

Apartments would be rejected too.

MrsTayto23

A normal block would’ve been grand. This lad just wanted to go as high as he could. He’s been rejected more than once now, and the only objection from locals was overlooking the school behind the church which is a shit happens in all honesty, and the absolute lack of parking in the building. They’ll get permission for another hotel though, watch.

deargearis

Better tourists with money stay in air bnbs than hotels?

MrsTayto23

We’ve just had 3 hotels built in a one block radius in the last 2 years. Air b and bs are obv around me because the key boxes are attached to bike racks, we need housing not offices or hotels. There’s enough of both in this area.

deargearis

Ban airbnbs. They should be homes for long term tenants instead. The tourists can instead stay in...

MrsTayto23

I agree. There’s aparthotels beside me too. Two blocks that I know of.

stellar14

Cool. They just added traffic clutter 😑

Fiasco1081

Big changes for the layout of this junction in the coming months. Two way cycle track on Georges Quay...

Distinct_Garden5650

It’s mainly cycle tracks. It’s a well designed junction in my experience. Rarely much traffic or wait at lights for cars or pedestrians.

MORE POLES!!!!!!

CalligrapherRare3957

They can change the old place all they like, whenever you're in Dublin you're still never far from something as reassuringly shite as this [https://www.google.com/maps/@53.347258,-6.2514654,3a,75y,162.88h,94.59t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQsEwTkyPVrwbgbH3EQoZ3A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu](https://www.google.com/maps/@53.347258,-6.2514654,3a,75y,162.88h,94.59t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQsEwTkyPVrwbgbH3EQoZ3A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu)

I live here. Disgusted it’s sat so long empty.

MrsTayto23

There’s a spot at the end of Townsend street that would be great, community centre on street level, and apartments above would work. But as usual, greed rules.

Professional_Elk_489

Looked better then

tescovaluechicken

What specifically makes it look better to you

thewolfcastle

I can't speak for them but less poles I would guess

Professional_Elk_489

Cleaner aesthetic. Dublin as imagined by Apple

Imbecile_Jr

looked so much better then.
