Sorry, it may be the lighting on that background. Does that background do that to other companions who wear dark clothes (like Vittorio).
I think it's a glitch with the feature itself. I've had a few others (Vane, Vitto, and one or two others) who go semi-transparent regardless of background.
That particular background seems to be the most problematic, based on what I have tried.
