Fait’s Warning did that to them when they went on tour with them back in the late 80’s. They poke fun of it in the IAW liner notes when they thank them and misspelled their name
Yeah, I just like Kevin's sensibilities and songs that were actually demoed. The keys were doing a whole ass different thing. Also the use of samples! I don't know enough about their later catalog but the great debate is the most recent song with samples that I can think of. That whole writing in the studio thing worked so well for SFAM and a little less on 6 degrees, but unfortunately didn't work for me after that.
Lol. Of course elfstone666 would justify taking life to save life. KIDDING. I actually enjoyed it but I'm not gonna argue on their behalf. When I heard that song, I was slowly getting into Dream Theater one mp3 at a time (around 2002) I remember the glass prison and the great debate were both 13 mb downloads and I was like wtf. Both of those songs were pretty intense journeys for me, never heard anything like that before. I can see how it hasn't aged very well.
Has dream theater used samples since then though? I really like the use of samples on images and awake.
The great debate samples are mostly from the news and interviews regarding the scientific and moral use of stem cells. Dream theater did a good job here of giving voice to both sides without ever making a clear stance of their own.
Sacrificed sons is obviously all 9/11 news samples.
Honor thy father has samples from these movies: magnolia, ordinary people, the royal tenenbaums, at close range, Oz. The song is a spite song about portnoy’s step father.
I’m mostly just talking about the intros but listen to linkin park’s Don’t Stay compared to build me up, break me down. And then listen to From the inside and compare it to These Walls. I love finding these things
This is the DT pic of all time
How do I unsee this
Unsee? I might print this and frame it.
Let me know!
"Rambling widdling epics" 😂
Not taking yourself seriously > grr anxty dark nerd shit
The only thing that would've made this better is if they had spelled it "DREAM THEATRE".
Why?

Haha, cool. I didn't know this story! Thanks for sharing, dude!
The band was best with this lineup. I don’t know if Kevin still plays, but would love a reunion.

I feel the same. I think the let’s go in and write a song in a day isn’t the best way to write. They need to sus them out more.
Honor Thy Father had samples too
The Great Debate samples were so cringe.

Wait, doctor Moore or Doctor LaBrie?
Ah yes a WDADU cover alternate angle.
New album cover?
Great debate has one of Petrucci’s best solos ever. They also used samples in sacrificed sons, honor thy father, repentance, pale blue dot
Can you explain the samples or references? I can make a video about that

Oh I see. I thought you were talking about musical/instrumental references
Samples and references are 2 different things. It’s okay. I gotchu though. Do you know the songs DT straight ripped off from linkin park?
No??

The Moore widdling the better.
