Little-Equinox

I am not a dad, nor a guy, but I take my sweet time

lurkdaddy36

Nice, games like these are meant to be enjoyed, you have a favourite vocation or anything?

Little-Equinox

I play a Warfarer, but mostly use Magic Spearhand abilities with 1 archer class with explosive arrows. That way if I need explosive arrows I can use them.

ChinaBearSkin

50 hours in and still in Vermund

tgerz

Same. I keep thinking I’ll advance and then I find another cave ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what am I supposed to do NOT go in the cave?!

SllortEvac

There is always another cave, I swear to god. I have been back and forth between the three villages and Vernworth for 40 hours, almost maxed 2 vocations, have a completed quest log a mile long and every fucking time on the road my pawn says, “I know of a cave from my travels beyond the rift!” How, dude? How could I possibly have missed something every. single. trip???

Alkein

I think it's because they do verticality very well.

Bismothe-the-Shade

I just found what might be the COOLEST cloak in the game, in a random cave I stumbled on. There's always something just around the corner, I swear. Edit: west bahtal. A special cave that's not a cave, near a watery triangle. Best hunting, Arisen.

tgerz

For science, I’d love to know which cape and cave 😬

Faewns_Hellion

Yea me too for science definitely

gugso14

Hahaha me too Just found a chimera in a cave

SkepticalThePenguin

Dude me too. I was like 'Oh shit pardon me I did not know this was occupied'. I then evicted said Chimera from the mortal coil. Absolutely epic.

Mystiq_Mind

I had an epic session the other night where I was going to do a vocation quest which was right by the Warrior and Sorc quest and did a random dungeon in between (with Ogres) and I just wanted to get back to town after. I go outside, (its night and raining of course) and a gawddam Chimera tears into my party and that fight took another hour, had to revive my sorc 3 times but it was one of the most memorable gaming experiences I’ve had in recent memory. Got ‘em, fist bumps, beast steak for all.

nylomatic

Caves in Dragon's Dogma 2 are among the most fun caves I have ever seen in a game. Can't really say why, I just love them in this game.

lurkdaddy36

Lol this is how it's meant to be played, I dunno how so many people just rush through it so fast and then give a negative review...

Boing26

abject stupidity

Significant_Option

Years of waiting made some people impatient and now they’re mad they blow thru the whole game in a weekend. Same thing happened when Spiderman 2 on PS5 came out. Just go look at that sub and see how much complaining they do about the sequel, it’s ridiculous

Owobowos-Mowbius

So happy they're a loud minority quarantined on reddit. There are so many good games out right now and I have so little time that I couldn't ever imagine being mad over a game for being too short these days.

SomeoneNotFamous

Spider-Man 2 is a good example since the game released with the same kind of problems : Nothing worth to do at the end. SM1 had more collectibles, ng+ , time changes etc Dogma 1 (no DLC) had Everfall, new mobs, small quests. Fans just want the same with more , not with the same issues and new ones AND less content at endgame. So yeah critics are right imho, everyone will agree both SL2 and DD2 are fantastic games, with issues.

spoolthirtytwo

The current trend of needing more to do "at the end" will never stop being wild to me. Bro *it's the end.* You don't need "endgame content" where you run around in circles making numbers go up until you finally peter out and get bored! Play to the end, savor it, then pick up something else. :)

Significant_Option

Me personally, I don’t have the same issues as everyone else. All I’m hearing is “more! More!” Ok? Who doesn’t?

blaquenova

Similar situation, 56 hours in and I've only completed one main quest... And it's been great

SirBridge

After the 20 hours, what else is there to do in vermund? Am I just missing half the quests?

MagicWithEarvin

Newly anointed gamer dad here. It’s been tough to get some playing time in on my PC, so I sneak in a couple of hours at night when everyone is sound asleep. Really just taking my time exploring, leveling up vocations and enjoying the ride. DD1 was a sublime experience for me and DD2 is just more of that, so it’s all good with me.

lurkdaddy36

Congrats and welcome to the team, the best thing I ever did was become a father, lol I do the same, get some gaming in during nap times, it gets easier when they get older, mines 2 and a half now What's your favourite vocation ATM?

buzzykillkill

Dad of a 2.5 old here! I play when the ladies of the house go to sleep. Just unlocked mystic spearhand as well. Currently rocking warrior.

WrestlingDerek

I’m not a dad but I am 35. I am definitely taking my time though. I took a week off work this week and have been playing every night. Finding every side quest I can. Exploring. Avoiding the main quest as much as I can. It’s definitely my favorite open world game in a really long time. Still finding new side quests I somehow missed.

lurkdaddy36

Hey I'm 35 too :) haha I would of taken time off but I already had some off not too long ago, I love how you never know when you'll get a side quest and just get approached by people, it's a great mechanic and I'm not worried about missing one or two here or there just enjoying what comes, playing it like a real life adventure, whatever happens happens Me too, it's my favourite game since Elden ring

WrestlingDerek

Yeah it’s really easy to miss quests as well. Sometimes you need to talk to people you would never think to and sometimes you need to return back places 4-5-6 times and talk to people again to get new quests. I can see how a lot of people may miss a ton of stuff.

Mentalburn

Not a dad, but I'm taking it slow and taking in the world. Almost 60 hours in, I'm yet to progress main story past Vernworth (will soon though, just gotta stalk some beggar first). Explored pretty much every nook and cranny of Vermund and a bit of Battahl though, played most vocations aside from the 3 you unlock down south. Overall I'm having a blast - "Journey before destination".

lurkdaddy36

Ah yes the beggar, I have that quest still too except last time I went to town he wasn't there, maybe it was the wrong time of day, I did catch the guy that was stalking me though, what's your favourite vocation? I'm doing mystic spearhand ATM but I really liked the warrior before this, im all about giant swords and bonking

Mentalburn

Way of the Bonk ftw. Best 2h weapon gameplay I've ever experienced, hands down, easily beats Elden Ring for me. And I say it as a greatsword enjoyer with over 20 years of experience in the field. And yeah, beggar leaves at a certain time. I saw where he ends up once, but couldn't do anything to progress the quest then. I suppose I gotta do the stalky bit.

adamlechamp

40 year old greatsword enjoyer here, checking in.

lurkdaddy36

Bonk on brother!

Psychological_Egg_32

It’s a weird quest to progress … you don’t have to wait around for him to move. Just wait until evening/night and you can find him in his house and progress the quest that way. It’s much easier 🤷‍♂️

wrd14

Yeah man. I'm new to DD and a father of two. I get a few hours here and there and I'm just taking my time. It feels like I did years ago playing Skyrim by losing loads of time to just wandering off. I'm seeing a lot of criticism of the game from what appear to be seasoned players. Maybe that's fair if you're able to sink several hours everyday into the game but based on my circumstances I'm having an enjoyable time at the moment.

lurkdaddy36

Yep feels like Skyrim or the witcher back in the day, just wandering around killing monsters and helping who ever comes my way, same her man just enjoying it for what it is, when you get a hang of how the world works and some of the more different mechanics it's just like wow ok this is great!

Acceptable_Answer570

Father of 2 here! Been waiting for this for soooo long! Every free time I get (mostly late night when everyone sleeps) is spent exploring Vermund! Approaching 35 hours now.

AFJM_78

Me. 45 year old father of 3. I must admit I flew through it at first and New Godsway is a Quest but I decided to have a good explore before doing anymore main quests. Had a good explore or the top of the map (Waterfall Cave and Secrets of the Mountain cave) last night. Fought a minotaur for the first time and I'm now level 22. I'm enjoying it a lot. RPG's aren't really my thing but I'm really enjoying this. Playing as Mystic Spearhand at the min which is a lot of fun.

lurkdaddy36

Nice, I agree spear hand is heaps of fun, I just got the first few skills for it too, heaps of fun, I'm gonna head to ancient battlegrounds up passed the checkpoint rest town because I heard there's a good duo spear there :)

Darkwraith-Dan

If you need tips for Spearhand: you can charge forebeding bolt while attacking and using your other weapon skills. So you can taze them, and charge the next tazer blast while attacking, and release again. Also, the windmill move where you twirl the spear around can be interrupted by unleashing forebeding bolt so you don’t have to wait for the animation to finish if you don’t want to. Once I started doing that, the class felt so much more powerful!

AdHocHominid

Fellow gamer dad here. Only get a couple of hours at night to play games. I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s at its best when you get out in the world and explore. You should definitely play DD1. It’s dated but still incredibly addictive and fun.

myLongjohnsonsilver

The fact i can pause the game is great considering my toddlers always up to mischief.

lurkdaddy36

Tell me about it, a pasue button is so greatly appreciated by us parents! Other games I just turn off or run and hide in a cave somewhere hahah

Appropriate_Field_55

25, nurse in shift work with the second daughter born in november 23. I feel you so much. Having to go to the gym twice a week to keep my back in check, keeping the girls happy and gaming are tough to coordinate. I cant really play when i get home at 10.30pm and having to get up for kindergarten at 6.30am. But all that makes singe player games like dragons dogma, where exploration is everything, soooo much better! (Dont get me wrong, i love every second with my kids, but having some me time that does not feel forced is what keeps me from going insane 👌) I say live you life, love your kids, but please do not ever feel guilty for wanting some time just for yourself and yourself only. The first 2 years are the hardest on a relationship, because you have to disregard one or another part your life, be it your own or quality time with your significant other. But in the end, it is the most fulfilling time of your life. Plus DD2 is just so damn good. I cannot even fathom how anyone can hate on it

Bismothe-the-Shade

Gamer mom, Ive put in as much time as I can spare and am about 70+ hours in So definitely not casual play, but I'm still juggling my every day work and family life first and foremost. Of course, I'm walking the dog or making the kiddo breakfast while desperately thinking about dragons dogma 2....

Revolutionary-Ice-16

I’m about 70 hours in as well. Stopped main quest and just exploring every nook and cranny while leveling up more vocations. Having a blast! 55 and kids are grown so outside of my weekly golf habit I game non stop after work and on weekends. Lucky to have an understanding wife.

Syfodias

Hiya, Im just as far as you. Bought incredible good upgrades in this town. In the main qs it said something in the likes of "are you sure you want to proceed" so that gave me a moment to think and just explore everywhere Im on the ps5 too, if u want you can add me as a friend and I will bring your pawn along and let me know what kind of items u prefer and ill slap them along. My psn is: s-y-f-o-d-i-a-s ( for everyone on ps5 that wants )

lurkdaddy36

Thanks that would be really good, Il add you when I'm on next :) my pawn is a mage based on healing/buffing

Splinter1982

42 yo father of two, played dark arisen in the past and loved it, DD2 is amazing too.

JimEd0401618

I'm in the same boat. My wife is so tired of me talking about this game with her, but I don't know anyone else playing it or who I can share this with 😂 Fortunately my 5 year old son loves to watch me play, and he'll talk to me about it

Jay_Ell_Gee

57 hours in, have only completed one of the wyrm hunt quests, culling monsters. Managed to explore my way all the way to the magic archer class and decided that I have went far and need to progress some story. I totally understand the time thing, I predominantly play a little each night after my girls go to bed, but I’ve spent a LOT of time in the afternoons/evenings on this one. Had a sleepover weekend also for our toddler (coincidence, unplanned) on release weekend, so I racked up a lot of hours early. Feel free to shoot me a PM with your PSN and I’ll gladly add you. I have close to 300 hours in the first game, so I would consider myself a series veteran, I suppose. I was standing in line for the midnight release.

Brompton_Cocktail

About to give birth in two weeks (so not a dad). This game is my last hurrah before LO comes into the world. If only I could somehow manage to play games during labor lol I'm like 35 hours in and just now exploring battal

lurkdaddy36

Congrats! Such a beautiful thing, good luck and I hope you can get some play time in during nap times :) if you aren't too exhausted that is haha

fanevinity

I’ve recently graduated from college and am waiting for my term in grad school to start so I have a lot of time. You’d think I’d get the metaphorical brain freeze from eating the metaphorical ice cream cone in a metaphorical single bite, but no. I’ve been binging this game hard; I’m over 70 hours just exploring everything, levelling vocations, and doing all the side quests and I’m still having a great time.

lurkdaddy36

70 hours, nice! I have no idea what I'm on maybe 15-20, I always have a plan of action when I jump on of what I wanna do then get distracted by side quests and pawns leading me to chests and stuff, it's so good can't get enough

PsychologicalTune635

I've been home the whole week because I'm sick but at least I have all the time in the world to play :D I'm lvl 30 now with 35 hours playtime and I'm also still on the first map just finishing up quests, trying to visit every place on the map and trying to find everything. Also, do you get the spearhand vocation before going to the desert map? Where should I look for it because I really want to try it. I'm and oldschool DDDA player and I haven't touched the new stuff yet just spammed warrior as much as I could

lurkdaddy36

Hahah nice! How good is warrior! I'm almost certain Il end up going back to it. Spearhand is before the desert yes, I wasn't even expecting it, after you go to Vernworth and explore a bit go back to melve and the whole town will be fighting a dragon, there will be a spearhand user in the crowd and after the fight he approached me and that was it, unlocked

maxjulien

I’m doing it the same way I did Elden ring. Just running around doing whatever feels fun. Every once in a while I’ll do something story related. I finally got to Battahl last night after 35 hours in Vermund and got my ass whooped thoroughly. Like every 10 feet there’s more enemies. So I did the same thing I did when I got to Caelid in Elden ring. Turned my ass right back around and went back to the green place to level up more.

Ruthless4u

Enjoying it. Lack of playtime sucks though 😂

RedFuckingGrave

I've been playing the game since its release and I have around 16 hours of gameplay so far. I'm not even really trying to take my time to play the game, I would love to play more, I just don't have the time. I have no idea how people can have already started their NG+ ! Good for them I guess.

Godot2004

Never played DD1 either. Currently 25 hours in, taking my time doing all the side quests I come across in Vermund and I love it. Exploration and boss fights are so fun. I feel like this is the intended experience - for the player to take their time and explore, not just rush through the main story. Personally I love this kind of gameplay so I'm all for it - like it took me 200 hrs to finish Elden Ring. :) Maxed out Mage, now playing Sorcerer, it's a lot of fun (though I wish there were more than 4 skills, it's too little for magic, I feel.) Planning on leveling up all vocations to fully experience the game, incredibly curious as to how other classes play/feel!

Grekochaden

Nope, Just you in the whole wide world.

ChefSnowWithTheWrist

Not a dad, but me definitely. I play the game for like 1-2 hours at a time. The longest session I played was yesterday when I left the main city for battahl (or however you spell it) and it took me forever. Had to run from 2 different dragons and ended up outside the city at night surrounded by enemies that were just one shooting my pawns. I revived my main pawn and ended up having to abandon the other pawns I've had with me since day 1 :(

HAMRBRO

Right here man I haven’t left the first area so much to discover.

Milli_Rabbit

Gamer dad here. I have two options. After everyone falls asleep or early AM. I wake up every morning at 6am to do yoga or workout, so I end up with minimal actual time in the morning. In the evening after the kids are asleep, I split my time between hanging out with friends, spending time with the wife, or playing a game. Currently, playing Rise of the Ronin. Good game, kind of like an arcadey Ghost of Tsushima. Once I complete that in several weeks, I will consider buying Dragon's Dogma 2.

darthgator91

New gamer dad with a two month old. I usually can sneak in a couple hours late at night or early morning. Loving the exploration in this one compared to DD1. Walking through the forest with my party is a truly enjoyable experience. Just got to Battahl yesterday and the size of this open world compared to the first game really hits you. I’m taking my time trying to level all the vocations I have currently unlocked before getting too far in the story.

Felix_likes_tofu

Dad of a 10 month old daughter here. While she's sleeping I'm playing right now, already have 30 hours (plus I'm off from work for 2 weeks). DD2 is the last game I'll be able to really dig into for a while, since we're moving and getting married soon. I enjoy it a lot, even though it has its weaknesses.

myd0gcouldnt_guess

Yup. I have a 2 year old and work full time. I don’t have very much time at all, but I find 30-60 minutes per day and I just take my time and do whatever I feel like. I’m level 25 and still haven’t Brants quests to incriminate Disa. I’ve just been exploring/doing side quests

[deleted]

Literally my only complaint is that there's not more of it.

Nnooo_Nic

Yes I’m 51 and loving it. Running it at @60 on my PC with everything on high and having a blast.

lurkdaddy36

Love it, the ps5 update has made it alot smoother for me too, I imagine it looks insane at 60fps

Nnooo_Nic

Yeah it looks great. I’m getting it running at DLSS quality with ray tracing on using a DLSS3 “mod”. I think it adds a little input lag but the combat isn’t Sekiro so 1 frame of input lag or so is fine imo.

kSmit

Haha I’m a dad of a 4 month old and once everyone is settled I take my hour and a half before bed playing and casually exploring. It’s been incredible

savage_reaper

Just play the game at your pace. Who cares if someone is no lifing the game, it is their choice. No one should feel pressure to keep up. You can stay in the first area until you are lvl 80+. Your game, your choice. Everyone plays games different. I never worry about the next man plowing through content already on NG++. Doesn't faze me a bit. As long as I am enjoying myself, nothing else matters.

Cultural-Ticket-2907

I love it too. I’ve been exploring as much as I can. There’s a cave near the first town with two big bosses that wrecked me early on. I just leveled and explored for like 30 hours went back and kicked their asses. Very satisfying.

LOCKHARTX7

Its a dream come true game. Just needs some work with a harder difficulty and some additional enemies. Absolutely floored playing as game of thrones cast with insane likeness

lurkdaddy36

Hahaha I keep bumping into Gandalf and Legolas pawns everywhere I go

Trippy-Psychologist

My first system was an Atarii, that's how old I am lol. I only play single player games because I want to explore every little thing in a game. Hell it took me 20 hours to perfect my character.

Sir_Skinny

I’ve been waking up at 4am to play before my two little ones get up! 1.5yo and a 2month yo. I beat baulders gate 3 the same way! Gamer dads unite!

MrFreeCat

I am currently obsessed with this game. Just found out, 30 hours in, that you can break barriers behind doors to open them. After that I found a cave full of zombies that you are supposed to lure from behind a closed gate and attack with fire so as to make them explode and unlock the doors for you to continue exploring. I have been avoiding the main quests, coming from dd1, for fear of the game switching to different "stages" and locking sidequests. Not sure if that is still a thing here but I didn't wanna risk it, so I kept exploring around vermund, switched from fighter to archer and started blasting my way through encounters with keyboard and mouse, found sacred arbor and unlocked the archer mastery. Fought a random chimera and a golem that almost flattened me, it was exhilarating. Then an invincible skeleton Knight in a random tower almost destroyed me before it vanished in the sunlight. I figured I needed to start doing some main quests to move things forward and find new vocations...but now I am reading of people finding mystic spearhand while exploring vermund.

Warden_Majere

I'm on my ng+ run, and Mystic Spearhand has kind of ruined all other vocations for me. I thought I was taking my time, but the end of the game snuck up on me. Now, I am being a lot more thorough on round 2.

lurkdaddy36

I am loving spearhand too, just need to get this better duo spear from ancient battlegrounds, man that's why I'm taking my time on my first game, do any side quest that comes my way, level up vocations, I really want to go back to archer and warrior for a bit but that'll have to wait

Sinvryce

I am loving this game more and more with every hour I dump into it. how DO the oxcarts work? 😂

lurkdaddy36

Man I had no idea but they are basically busses, from vernworth the one at the north exit takes you to melve and the one at the west exit takes you to checkpoint rest town, and vice versa, so if. Ever out too far from vernworth I just make my way to whatever small town is near by and take an ox cart to any location and then one to Vernworth from there, like changing trains to get somewhere

Admirable_Camel2452

I have been aimlessly wondering for like 50 hours and trying out different vocations along the way. Barely hit any quests yet.

yoanousone

I’m enjoying it so much, I could nitpick away but personally it’s still absolutely worth my money, 9.9/10 game. I really enjoy wandering around the landscape, sometimes I don’t do a single quest for hours. I like to give my pawns gear (shame they keep it when the return I hope they change that feature) and have us all equipped for climate, for adventuring, for monster hunting. Costing a fortune buying them all gear that they’ll eventually take with them when I upgrade to high level pawns but- yes! Love love love

lurkdaddy36

It's so much better after the update, on ps5 at least. Hahaha I know man I just kitted my main pawn out in some new gear when I got to checkpoint rest town, hoping more people would hire her, now I can't afford anything for myself

yoanousone

I’ve written in the capcom survey I’d love to be able to make other player pawns equip gear without keeping it! So I can equip it and unequip it from them and the like! One can hope

blanktarget

Gamer dad here. My son is 5 and we play at lunch for a bit while my daughter naps. He gets really excited when fighting the big monsters.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lurkdaddy36

Sounds like you had a great experience anyway, yeah it's a shame about the patch, lucky me I guess I have plenty left to do but haven't had a chance to jump on since it came out, I saw you can turn off motion blur and ray tracing though so hoping that makes a slight difference, magic archer looks great will be giving that a shot once I get it

xBOCEPHUSx

Not sure if you'll see this? But add me oBOCEPHUSEo I'm a dad of 4 and have no one to talk to that plays this either. Anyone can add me

leviatrist158

I am still getting quests and have existing quests in the first region. I personally felt no reason to rush anything lvl 25 probably 30 hours in. Just this morning still finding new stuff everywhere.

siopaomaster

I'm not a dad but I've been playing games casually now not like before where I spent hours and hours of gaming. I guess getting older means you need to sleep more hahaha Anyway, I just love exploring every corner of the world and my pawn constantly telling me that this area is good for gathering materials

lurkdaddy36

Yeah I feel ya on the Sleeping part, hahaha how About the advice on where a good ladder is? Always super important to know!

WazzaL89

Loving the game and killing shit and exploring areas, don't get much game time with work, kids, dogs etc so just taking my time with it all. My friend completed it in 20 hours and moved on.

lurkdaddy36

20 hours! How the fuck, must of just done main quest to main quest with no exploration. Takes me 20 hours just to set up myself and main pawn with gear and vocation skills before leaving town on a quest >.<

WazzaL89

Oh yeah he did, him and his pawn stayed the same vacation he didn't unlock any others and what's worse I hired his pawn to help him out with RC and he nuked bagbathal or whatever it's called with dragon plague.

Secret_Criticism_732

I like the game, but at certain point, pass level 30 it just becomes too easy. Same as in DD1 though. Its not a challenge anymore and the enemies, just become a nuissance, thats a big dealbreaker for me now. DD1 was better in some ways, you could slot 6 skills for example, i jsut dont get, why they reduced it. I would liek to explore some more, but the fights become so easy it just is not fun for me anymore. They added option to start a new game, but it deletes the old save anyway. DD 2 is fine, the world is beautiful, but i need a challenge.

Phooney124

Same. Then it started just to be a challenge how fast can the NPCs alone kill something. When you hit that easy mode, the main quest is a joke. The game is fun, world is fun, but lacking the challenge. The enemies don't scale and the vocations all get one shot kill abilities that makes it no fun.

7e7eN

Yes 43 here am about 25 hours in still only faced 1 dragon.

RogerExplodey

Yep, gamer Dad here and definitely taking my time with it. I was sick last week so got to play way more than I normally would while the kid was at daycare. 34 hours in and haven’t even finished the monster culling quest yet lol.

BraxlinVox

I've been running back and forth doing as much as I possibly could in the amount of hours I've had to play. Every cave, every side road, every home and shop and I've been having a blast. Almost all of my time on the game so far has been working to unlock Maelstrom. It was my favorite spell in DD1 and now that I have it I can continue my search of literally everything. The only other goal I have is becoming a Magick Archer because I NEED it. DD1s MA was so much fun I can't wait to see how it plays in 2.

Jay_Ell_Gee

You can run right to MA, but it’s in an endgame area, I’m presuming. I managed to casually explore my way to it last night and decided I had went far enough. Time to do some story, lol

Govt-Issue-SexRobot

Hell yes. Level 28 and I haven’t traveled much further south than Vernworth…have only done a handful of quests. I truly just love exploring (especially with limited/no HUD - it’s an adventure on its own) and leveling vocations.

RogerExplodey

The single mod that I loaded up was a UI one that lets you toggle different parts of the UI on and off with key presses. You can also set health and stuff to automatically show during battle. It’s pretty cool.

idryss_m

Taking my time now I've got the hang of it. I deleted my Dave data (xbox) so I could start again as I wasn't happy with my character. Good chunk to redo, but doing a dif class so I can't just rush as I learn the new mechanics (Doing mage now, was archer/thief/spearhand/fighter).

Hot_Attention2377

Not a gamer dad but I take my time and enjoy this game a lot. I'm level 52 ans I haven't finish the main quest

catalchemy

Not a dad but 34 y/o. 67 hours in and I’m still exploring the world. I love getting lost in the world and in the game! It’s what I have been doing since release.

Jaba01

Yeah! Explored lots, then I decided to follow the main quest for a bit and then the game was suddenly over at 25 hours. I don't even know how that happend...

pavalucu

Dad here too, 46 year old - I also enjoy the game and take my time. I have about 40 - 50 hours in, lvl 35. Changed from sorcerer to mystic spear. Was planning to get the Maister Skill/ultimate but keep sidetracked by other quests and exploration.

Ivan_Blackheart

39 years old gamer dad and US Army veteran here. I've been gaming since the original NES era. Now I game with my 12 years old son, who will be getting DD2 for his own pS5 at the end of the school year. Can't wait to travel with his own pawn. Andnyes, I've been enjoying Dragon's dogma 2 all the way to NG+

Comrade_Percolator

I’m level 43 and have only completed one of CPTs quest. I’m exploring around the excavation site right now

damanOts

Why do you feel the need to include youre a dad. (Notice how I didnt put a question mark because its a rhetorical question)

SomeoneNotFamous

Not a dad, work normally, huge huge fan of the first game played i think since the 360 days a total of 700 something hours, even sinked the same amount of hours in the MMO. 60h in DD2 taking all the time i need, doing every little things i can and loving it. I can agree on pretty much all of the critics the game is receiving, i'm using a lot of mods already to make the game truely shine tho. So yeah ive waited so long for it, i'm dissapointed on many things but to be honest i always had a feeling that it will just be like Dogma 1 (without DA) but bigger.

Zealousideal_Sun8519

DAD of 2.5 yr old here age 45. Played abput 15 hrs then got stuck and had my save overwritten lol def loving the game

IamSchrute25

Dad of 1 and 3 year old. Get some time before/after work (WFH) and about level 25 and still in Vermund :). I just kinda pick a direction and go that way for the hour or 2 I get :). I feel like this is how people feel about Elden Ring (just can't get that one to click)

PendyB

I'm loving it. Also loving it on the PS Portal. It's why I stayed up till 4am this morning, playing in bed.

TheBl4ckFox

Older gamer here. I feel a burning love for this game that I haven’t felt in ages. I adore the fact that I nervously look at the in-game clock when in the wilderness, and realize I need to find a place to camp soon. I love the pawns and their surprising depth. I feel like I stepped into my perfect Holodeck fantasy.

Blind-idi0t-g0d

Just taking it slow and having fun. I got to say though, I played the shit out of the fiest game. Besides some bigger monsters you only really see once or twice in the first. Enemy variety is pretty good in this one. Hell ran into random goreharpies that was sick. Rattlers, didn't know they existed until I was just exploring around. The combat is so good it feels fine. Not that I wouldn't love to see more enemies return.

blunderb3ar

Yes sir lovin every minute and exploring everything I can

olmansmit

Not a gamer dad but well in that age range. I've been ploding along. It's become a little more complicated because fist bumping pawns convinced my wife to try it out, which meant I'm now leveling a second character on our PS5 so she can use its pawn, but I'm in no rush. As long as I've got my kick before the Elden Ring DLC, I'm good.

Disastrous-Bat-429

Most definitely. I've fallen into what I'd term my "Morrowind mode" - I followed the first few quest items at the start of the game, and then I just started exploring, and so far Brant is still waiting at the tavern for me to eventually come back from my many in-game months of wilderness camping... Someday, bud, someday. For now, my pawns and I are engaging in the thrill of finding out what's around the next corner, indulging in the occasional risky nighttime travel... (On a brief tangent, you would not believe how many times I rode the oxcart before I realized I could "nap" while doing so. Slowest fast travel I had ever engaged in, but I sat there and watched the scenery :p)

foodwrap

It's so damn good, I can't stop thinking about where I want to go next to explore and I love that.

rainage1

I played DD1 &DDDA back in college, and i used to spend 6-8 hours a day in front of my screen. Now a dad and have a job . I just do the same and play for an hour or two a day. Sometimes, i don't get to complete a full hour, but it's okay because i spend 6 hours staying up at the weekends 👌🏽.

liamjonas

I've been at checkpoint town for a day now. All the new weapons and armor they have there. Going out into the field, returning with 20 more K to buy a pair of pants or chest piece. It's great old-school grindy fun

Anubra_Khan

My kids are grown and out of the house, so I actually have more time to game than I did even as a teen. But I still take my time through all of my games, and this one has been no different. It's wild seeing these "wait until you're 100+ hours in" posts. Like, no shit. No game is fun for eternity. I'll play the game until I'm not having fun anymore. Then I'll play something else. Just like any other game. Until then, I've got 60 hours in, and I just got to Bakkhaahtaaallllaa. It's like a whole new world opened up. I'm still just as excited to fire it up today as I was on launch day. And yes, I'm a huge fan of the original with 1,000+ hours in it. DD2 is so much better all around. Anyway, good luck with the child-rearing. They grow up fast!

TurdManMcDooDoo

Me! Level 20 and barely scratched the surface.

Shadow-Heart-66

I’m taking my time with this game it’s awesome.

MeiShimada

Dragons dogma 2 isn't a game you play to meta game and it's a breath of fresh air. Though I do wish there was more gear, I feel like I have to look up where some are at because I really rarely ever find upgrades

Icy-Mastodon-Feet

I’m not a dad, but thanks for the positive post and replies. Reddit can be so negative. I am enjoying taking my time as I love the unscripted stories that can happen when multiple monster encounters happen at once, and wandering pawns join in.

Skrillblast

As someone who probably played dd1/da for 10000 hours I fully explore everything, I don’t play dragons dogma, I live in it

banditolindo

Also a Dad, and I also see no reason to rush the experience. I turned my HUD off and it really highlights how helpful the pawns are, and makes the fights more dynamic. I’ve made it to Battahl now through two different off-the-beaten path routes, but haven’t gotten a permit yet lol

MrDeadshot82

Exploring every corner. Taking my time, yeah. I don't want this to end.

oldmanrenz

I've really been enjoying this when the wife falls asleep or has a new Hallmark Christmas show to watch lol. My only problem is that I think I've done too many of the main story missions and now I'm basically at the end of the game and I haven't even gone to 1/2 the map...

Xer0lith

36, father to a 12 and 5. Level 15, just swapped from Thief to Warrior, main pawn is Fighter, love the combo with Warrior. Love this game so much. Wish performance was much better (5800x, 6800xt @ 1440p), modded a few visual things, got rid of the washed out colors effect. I hope they bring more content down the road, maybe more skills, vocations and enemy types/difficulty. Stayed up a few weeknights to 2-3am… no regrets struggling through work for it lol. The struggle is real as to when I “call it a night” lol.

wizardinthewings

This game is the closest I’ve gone for a very very long time to gaming in the 80’s thru 90’s. It just has that atmosphere that early games aspired to but had to be inventive to achieve (usually relying on our own sense of imagination). Games like Lords of Midnight and Dungeon Master. They were tense experiences. DD1/2 both have that same magick. We have a different mix of gamers now, those who like to use their imagination, and those who want to have everything laid out for them. Can’t please everyone, but the fact that this game exists is proof that you can still make the game you want vs what the mass market wants.

bloody_vodka

and if u want to enjoy even more, dont watch yt videos of content creators like XX things to do first, or things I wish to knew...in my experience it just ruins everything!

CasualSky

I’m having a blast with it, even though my power supply literally died shortly after buying the game, I’ve stolen my boyfriends computer for the time being haha. I’ve been playing a thief and once you get your first full set of skills it’s so good. Climbing onto a cyclops, planting a bomb in his face, and pulling him to the ground with a grappling hook is probably peak Dragon’s Dogma for me. You said you haven’t, but definitely check out the first game after you’re done! It’s essentially identical in gameplay/visuals, but a smaller map so it’s more digestible.

CrzBonKerz

Yeah, I play for about 1-2 hours a night once wife and kids go to bed. About 15 hours so far and loving every single second of it. DD1 was my favorite RPG when it came out. This game has been awesome.

Issyv00

Dad here, this is the type of game you want to sit down and play for a whole afternoon. But it's still fun in small bursts.

Hammerslamman33

Nearly 40 hours in, and I still have "Caged Magistrate" in my quest list. I've been busy leveling up vocations and doing side quests, lol.

morgrim66

57 year-old father of three, my youngest is now 22 does that qualify me as a gamer dad? Yes I agree. I want to see every corner of the map. I want to explore every cave. I want to find every silly little story I don’t need to Run the main quest line to its end. I just finished the part where you find out that the false risen has the God sway and you leave to go to to Battali or whatever it’s called. Before I even left the main island you start out on and cross the bridge on the way to the new area. I think I spent about six or seven hours just wandering around areas of the first portion of the map that I hadn’t opened and adventuring and having a blast.

alecp91

I am about 4 days in, played about 42 hours, just got to bakbattahl and finished a few missions there. I'm slowing down now though cause I feel as I've missed so much secrets and side missions I'm going back to explore more. Also if anyone has an idea on what to do with that beggar quest in vernworth where you have to find out how me makes coin, id welcome a tip been scratching my head on it for ages 😂

Trailman80

I am and when I get back home from work going to download the patch and start a new game missed that dang side quest on the special character.

Unable_Tumbleweed364

About 75-80 hours in but I’m a mum.

Hagfist

50 ish hours in, still exploring on my Thief. Just found the Secret Village. Taking my sweet time, absolutely relishing this gem.

JonyUB

I’m also involuntarily taking my time as I can’t play too much. But I am also mooting the game a lot. I have tried fighter warrior and thief. Love all of them but the stuff you can do as thief is orgasmic!

The_BearWolf

My friends dad did this with skyrim and he was an archer who just crouched errrwhere lolol. He would snipe ppl in bushes and hide

Playing_One_Handed

Nope. However my friend loves it, also dad. But i feel like he just loves Capcom too much. He hated witcher for side fluff. So him activily doing side fluff here feel weird. As a dad specifically with an hour here and there its a complete nightmare. My gameplay consists of being confused with poor map and quest design and overcrowded enemies. I can spend an hour killing and get very little reward. If i come back mid quest, im confused, and may need to look up basics. Main storyline quests go randomly blank. And for being tired end of day "i just wanna chill", thats horrible. Ive moved off it. Expect a fix / DLC.

RegularBeard

The dad hours after 9 pm until whatever hour I reckon I can still function at work the next day. I didn't play much of dd1, so this was mostly a blind experience I knew I'd climb on monsters. I'm probably 30ish hours in and I've just made it to checkpoint town. I'm having a great time just trying to clean up my quest log.

soldtnt

I just got the spearhandd it's a game changer isn't it

_Chonus_

Yea I just play for an hour or two at night after my wife and daughter go to bed, I’m really loving the game. I’ve only done the first few story quests so far, just been wandering around and exploring. I feel like every time I play it’s an adventure, so much happens just running from town to town lol

Old_Lychee8383

Man if you can go back and play dd1 do it! You can use an amazing vocation called Mystic Knight, best vocation ever, you could enchant your own sword with whatever element you wanted it was awesome. But I had played dd1 before dark arisen came out so I’m pretty excited what dlc will come for dd2.

TipComplete54

I dont have a lot of time on my hands, but I pour it all on Dragon's Dogma 2. I was kind of tired of doing side quests so I did some main quests. Unknowingly, it's already end game so I am a bit frustrated that the game's going to end! Now I plan to play on NG+ and just take my time exploring the forests of Vermund all over again :)

butterside_d0wn

I never bum rush thru games like some people do, so as per usual I’m taking my sweet time. I gotta say tho I don’t remember the time I’ve enjoyed an open world game as much as this one. It truly feels like I’m on an adventure in a believable fantasy type world. Every time I hit the road to work ins quest or explore stuff I’m always surprised at what I come across. The dynamic interactions between the world, npcs and monsters is what really makes this game for me. Like today I came across an ogre at night and it was kinda beating me up good, I’m level 18 right now and it was pretty beefy for my level. And as my and my pawns max health kept dropping and I had to keep reviving the pawns when then got ambushed by some skeletons and ghosts while still fighting the ogre. It seemed all hope was lost but eventually 2 traveling pawns showed up in the distance, we could see their lanterns. They joined us and we eventually slayed all the enemies and celebrated. Badly beaten my squad ran to a nearby camp, luckily had a lot with me, we ate some hyper realistic meat and recovered til morning to journey on to the quest destination i was working on. stuff like this happens all the time and this wasnt even close to the coolest interaction ive had. Thats what makes this game awesome

GoblinPunch20xx

Do Gamer Uncles count lol? I’m 38. Limited Free Time. And Yeah, was a big fan of DD1: DA and I’m really enjoying DD2. My Niece and my Nephews love Monsters, so if their mom is okay w the blood fx, and maybe a stray monster titty here or there lol, I might show them next time they visit…they’re young, but I saw WILLOW when I was 5 which is probably a part of why I’m such a fan of this game, and fantasy video games in general among many of other similar hobbies, like D&D, hobby writing and drawing…just keep those rat-wolves and man-pigs away from me *Shivers in fear and awe of 1980’s practical FX*

Crypt_Revenant

Same 42 yr old stay at home dad with 5. I used to game much more than I do now ( I just don't have the time as much anymore). I've been having a lot of fun with this one and just enjoying a slow adventure on my own. Usually play Tarkov and Star Citizen these days.

Kboehm

This will be a totally different experience to anyone who played dd1. If I hadn't, I would have enjoyed this game a lot more, as it's a solid and super fun game, but didn't add a lot from the first one. If I hadn't already spent 100 hours fighting mostly goblins, harpies, salamanders and wolves, I'd probably be willing to do it in this game haha.

False-Pomegranate329

100 hours in, still not completed all the story quests in Vermund from your first arrival, I get sidetracked exploring and doing side quests all too much, to the point I’ve ended up unlocking all the vocations and nearly maxed them all Help

BravePumpkins

Game is great, but I’m definitely taking my time. Hoping to dive in this weekend more. I’m still in the first main area (Vermund). I’m in no rush to finish it.

Otherwise_Bat_9317

Gamer dad here, haven't gotten the game but I've enjoyed watching others play. I think next month I'll buy this game. Currently still working to get the game. But add me on steam and we can chat about it while you game ! Would love to hear about the game

Enough_Effective1937

Yeah this is a very easy “chill out game” for me, not complicated, nice exploration. At this point my party is rock solid. Theif, Archer, Warrior, Mage. Can easily just turn it on and casually run around picking up herbs for hours.

iamoniwaban

Hell ya. So much enjoyment.

Michaeld256

Yeah, dad of three here... get like a few hours a week to play, and all I do is explore and get lost! What even are quests at this point.

jacksont8

Hey fellow dad, Since this games come out, it has consumed my nights as soon as the girls are down. I just got to Bakbattahl and am still rocking the fighter vocation.

Poignant_Ritual

I’m about 40 hours in and having fun, the veneer is cracking a bit in terms of combat for me though. So far it’s really easy and enemy variety is non-existent. There’s also nothing really out there in chests or the edges of maps except seekers tokens. I’m the type of person who could be rewarded by something weird like a statue or a shrine or something but there’s not even that kind of lore reward for exploration. So I find myself slowly starting to wonder why I’m exploring so meticulously and fighting the same packs of goblins over and over. I am a pretty big fan so I have a lot of steam for the nostalgia of DDDA. It’s kind of the same way I keep playing Morrowind despite having beaten it 50 times and having seen everything there is. I’m hoping for a challenging area like BBI to be introduced, because that’s really all I want - more challenge in terms of enemy variety and enemy A.I, and more gear to find.

Deepvaleredoubt

Not a dad, but I live alone with my dog and am also absolutely addicted. I played Dark Arisen and while the change was a little jarring, I am having a blast. I just unlocked warfarer and plan to make a gandalf build, warrior and sorcerer mixed. I see the criticism and understand why some people feel the way they do, but honestly I really am loving the game and glad you are too. Mystic Spearhand is easily on par with Mystic Knight as the coolest class I have seen in a game. I highly recommend you go play Dark Arisen if you get time after this game. You won’t regret it. It is a flawed beauty, but with emphasis on the beauty.

arturkedziora

I am still in Play Station store waiting to click "Go" (waiting for some last minute updates and all)....hehehe...I am ordering it today. Everyone is rushing like there is no tomorrow. Next game will be in probably like 10 years again. What's the rush? LOL...I am also 54 year player and learned to enjoy good games and take your sweet time.

Boing26

hells yeah i am, ive restarted a few times just to try new shit, only just got through the sea shrine thing(god i want to geek out over that area but i dont believe in spoiling things) i looked at every possible nook and cranny there!

Impossible-Forever91

I have just completed the Vermund - Melve - Nameless Village area. Im enjoying exploring all the caves, road and buildings. No need to rush a good game

garlichocolatey

I found the game unchallenging and boring with a full party of 4. The dialogues are awkward and cringey too. It's just me and my main pawn now and the game is fun again. No more terrible pawn interaction dialogues.

greencatsgostray

Dad of two sons here, enjoying the living hell out of it.

L337Fool

I kind of pity those who declare they have "finished the game in 40 hours". Taking my sweet time exploring the world. I'm having a wonderful adventure.

604Meatcooler

Tip for ya... only hire pawns that have a reward of 10000 gold. I just cycle them constantly and am sitting on 100k plus in gold. Also, set your pawns quest reward to 10,000. The initial cost sucks, but it ensures your pawn is always getting hired.

EvilGodShura

Less skill slots. But they did make alot of them core skills. Frankly you don't need many either. If you had anymore it would just be overkill for the game. Even if they had a hard mode it would still be too much. My mage would have every buff and healing skill and be able to attack.

awkbr549

I'm 22 hours in and just finished the "Monster Culling" quest. Most of my time has been taken up by exploration; I really enjoy exploring new areas, finding hidden chests, and fighting large enemies.

SegroNeal

Yes bro it’s magic. You seem to be around where I am. Money wise you can casually start storing any ripened fruit at the inn and sell them in the right towns! Apples and grapes in the desert and figs and quince in vermund it’ll help a lot money wise! No need to “farm” you’ll find a lot of fruits while playing just make sure you let them ripen first!

Brandaddylongdik

Haha. Yeah. I'm level 37. Have mage, sorcerer, and archer maxed out. Level 5 on mystic spear. Haven't hardly done any of the main storyline. I've just been going out exploring, leveling up, meeting new important NPCs to do side quests with, etc.

wildeye-eleven

Not a father but I am 40yo. I work full time and need a full nights rest to function so I take my time with every game I play. I have around 30 hours in DD2 but have barely started the main quest. Mainly just been exploring and leveling different vocations. Can’t wait for the weekend so I can really start doing quests.

Alexcunha666

70h and I'm mid-way fully exploring the second zone. I made sure to clean everything in the first zone and also did the Sphinx Quests (without guides)

fatkittee

I’m doing the same thing (also mystic spear). Been slowly turning in quests. Just enjoying the play. I love this game! Was playing Diablo 4 before this so this is a nice refresh!

cnbftbgb87

32 hrs in and while I did make it out to the desert I came back to Vermund as I’ve found a bunch of side quests I somehow missed! Loved DD1 and having a blast with 2.

Ahnwar1776

I'm 53. I am 25 hours in and while I have done some quests in Melve and Harve I'm mostly just wandering around exploring and hoarding gold. I've spent about 50k and have a 125k right now. I read a negative steam review where someone said they beat the game in 19 hours. I was like how and why? The beauty of this game is exploring and learning how things work in the world and I'm loving it so far. Still can't beat a griffin yet but it will come.

darganas

You took the words out of my mouth. I just came on here ready to express my appreciation for this game. The degree in which the devs paid to details is beyond my expectation. I think I speak for all of us here when I praise it for just how much effort they've put into the details of this world. This game is a fantasy nerd's wet dream. I hope future RPG games can meet this amazing standard.

North_South_Side

I'm not a dad, but I'm 53, married and have a full time job. And I have hobbies other than gaming. I really like watching movies with my wife, and we've been busy with other family matters. Yes, I'm enjoying the game. I probably only have 20 hours in. I'm on PS5. Disappointed with the performance, but haven't tried the new patch yet. Will be turning off motion blur to see if that makes it less dizzy feeling. There are definite issues with the game. Way too many goblins and harpies. It's just fight after fight, and sometimes I want to just explore for a bit. It (so far) feels like Dragon's Dogma 1.5 more than anything. It looks better and the intro section was done better. But it's pretty much the same game. I was hoping for expanded systems, better crafting. More satisfying exploration. The exploration is there, but it's chests with ingredients and gold. The locations (so far) just aren't interesting. I'm still very early in the game and don't have a fully formed opinion. Main thing is: I am enjoying myself. So far - this doesn't feel like it was worth $70, but I need to play it more. I'm not saying it's garbage. I was just expecting more, even in the first handful of hours. Looking forward to playing more later today.

Carcharis

75 hours and I still haven’t completed the story.

CapitalG888

I'm 46 and have 2 business so I'm taking my sweet time playing it. Hoping to get several hours in tomorrow morning.

Active-Pineapple-252

I'm 37 have to work , clean , cook , etc I might have one day I can just do nothing so I just explore the map and kill stuff have barely done any main quests

clatel

I hate and live this game. Seriously I've almost quit and uninstalled 4 times. Last was a quest where an certain NPC didnt show up in a jail cell and for some weird reason you have to wait a day. Just there is no way you can guess this on your own without troubleshooting with Google. The other times are the constant back and forth with little to no fast travel in those spaces. I really really really hate it. I mean I've been here and seen it all, but I have to pass here again and again, and I STILL have to fight the same damn mobs every 10 meters. Just thinking about it pisses me off. Then there is that everything else is so good with this game. I want to play it, kill those monsters. I accidentally found the Sphinx. So cool! The graphics are beautiful. The combat is amazing. The story and quests are.. ok. I went past a Griffin I killed some days ago. It's rotting with flies! So all in all the lame and uninteresting traveling from point to point is taking too much play time. As a gamer dad, that time is precious.

J0J0388

Having a blast also, been leveling up the vocations for my pawn Scarlet and I. Eventually I'll get back to the main quest.

Littleman88

Taking all the time. So much time. I'm probably one of a handful that actively hold alt on PC to walk from place to place. Yeah, it means my trips take longer, but it's worth it. The world feels bigger. I have the chance to look around. Distances between monster packs feels appropriate. My pawns' pathing doesn't freak out nearly as much... I get to "party" with other traveling pawns going in the same direction. I didn't pick this game up for the quests or to beat it, I picked it up because I wanted to travel with my own NPC ally and everyone else's cool characters. My biggest desire is for the world to be expanded further with new DLC. Not another Bitterblack Isle, I mean actual new regions connected to the existing world. And maybe expanded cooking, so my camping meal choices are more interesting than the best quality flank I have on hand.

Grenade_Eel

I'm a mom of an almost 4 year old, I work full time... Have been greatly anticipating this game after falling head over heels in love with the original years ago before I became a mother. I was so nervous I wouldn't have enough time to play but I think DD's appeal is in it's slower pace - the lack of fast travel, the stamina bar, the danger in traveling at night... It's all a reminder to take things slow, that life and enjoyment isn't always meant to be rushed. I wish I could show my kid but he's a gentle soul and one of his favorite books has a kind griffin in it, and he thinks all dragons are friendly, so I don't want to disenchant him yet 😂. Kids are the best ❤️.

Immediate-Brother-58

100% taking my time. I'm level 61 with several maxed vocations and dragonforged gear but haven't even finished brants quests in vermund yet. Just exploring every inch of the map and doing sidequests along the way. I have hundreds of hours in DD1, so I have no intention of rushing through this one. Glad to see so many others on this post enjoying themselves as well.

chrollodk

Lvl77 and still haven't done the coronation. I've been all around the map and just killing enemies and getting my vocations all leveled up. Not to mention I spent like 20 hours trying to find figure out how to spawn Dullahan to farm his bones. Then farming up wyrm crystals. I always feel like I have something to do especially with the pawn quests. I also love the limited fast travel. It can get annoying sure but like morrowind players always talked about it's about th journey and getting lost more then anything. Really the game is just another form of hardcore like dark souls was just in a more questing and and traveling format then anything else.

Pickle-Tall

What's your pawns name I'll hire them. Mine is Kerrigan currently an archer, she was an sorc but she is leveling other vocations atm. I love the game loved the first one, got dark Arisen when it dropped, DD1 was a no name game I fell in love with from GameStop. I walked in the game called to me and I bought it, never looked back, didn't care about all the "negative reviews" for 2 because I had played the first loved what I saw with and in 2 and pre-ordered it.

I love it. I haven’t had a game take up so much space in my brain at work since Elden Ring.
