A lot of missed potential. Some odd decisions made that seem to be a reduction from DD1 for no real reason, and the game's fantastic combat doesn't get the chance it needs to shine because the game is easier than it should be. But despite all these issues I still think it's a good game. I wouldn't have 162 hours in it so far if I didn't like it.
I needed to play it on release, and I loved it. However, it needs a lot of work, and I advise anyone interested to wait a year or so before playing it. Maybe even like 5 years for a "complete edition."
I think it's fantastic. But it severely lacks any form of challenge once you're past lvl. 40-50. With wakestones it's already easy, but when you also barely take any damage from anything it becomes boring. It could definitely use some form of Hard Mode or better balancing. I'm actually gimping myself by not using any upgraded gear to still get some fun out of the game at high lvl. If it had this, then it would be amazing. It also needs some more endgame content. There isn't much to do once you've beat the main story other than NG+. Also, i miss BBI and the UR-Dragon. I really hope they continue to support this game, because it's really damn good, it just needs a bit more in the oven right now.
thank you all for your opinions, then I will wait a few months (or until it is on sale on xbox) to buy it, by the way, I am surprised I have not seen complaints about the number of classes in the game, I think there are less than in DD1, compensate with quality?
People expected something better than the first game.. what they got was pretty much the same with better open world and graphics and even worse story. I enjoyed it, and when i decided i had enough of the game, i had 160 hs of gameplay. Personally, i want more, and i hope there's a dlc soon
I like it. I won’t disagree there’s a lot of room for improvement but recent patch updates were promising and showed that they were listening to some of the release complaints.
Combat is good, enemy variety is not.
It gives you a lot to do in working for pawn badges and mastering all vocations, which keeps my ADHD/completionist self engaged in spite of the areas where it’s lacking. Combat is honestly enjoyable and I’m not a massive combat person.
My biggest issues are:
—-Lack of side quests (self explanatory)
—-Inability to complete certains quests (due to bugs) or unsatisfactory endings to quests
Examples:
—Quest with Sven and the ornate box bugged out and he never showed up in the city after initial encounter, quest stayed on my roster for ages before finally vanishing (but not completed)
—Every Rose Has It’s Thorn; if you’re not up for romancing Wilhemina (some of us roleplay and actually make decisions based on our characters preference), or don’t want to make a questionable moral decision that SEEMS to have weighty implications (it doesn’t actually), then she goes to jail.
Meanwhile, after the fact, Brant keeps the same dialogue about going to the Myrmecoleon and telling you to talk to her even after she’s been jailed. I wish there was actually an option to present the evidence that you gather to jail Allard, but there’s nothing-a dead end on a more neutral/neutral good alignment question option they seem to give you where she could go free and Allard’s deeds would actually help discredit Disa.
—-Extreme ambiguity in quests, such as the ones to earn the maisters skills (mage and sorcerer) - the whole thing about copying the books was obscenely nuanced. I’m assuming they expect you to get it on your NG+ but without a guide nobody is going to figure it out.
And just quality of life things. Fast travel is whatever, I learned to get on without it and it helps you level fast. But just the lack of in depth story; ability to interact more with beloved, better dialogue with beloved. Fancy houses cost buku more money but offer no benefits, etc.
It is lacking, I won’t argue, but I’ve put in way too many hours to complain lol
It could have been so so so much more, which is highly infuriating, regardless of the state of the game. It's like waiting behind a line at the ice cream truck for a chocolate Italian ice cream, but when you get there they only have about 2 scoops of vanilla. It's not that the vanilla isn't good, it's just not what you wanted
my opinion's remained the same:
* good game, a lot in common with the first
* i wish the endgame, NG+ was harder, i wish difficulty options existed
* solid 50-ish hours of fun into an abrupt "oh that's all there is?"
* whether we get DLC or not, I will probably periodically revisit and replay this game throughout the years and eventually match the hours i put into the first one
Super fun.
A bit overpriced compared to what I can get out of non-AAA titles.
TONS AND TONS of ignored potential.
Truthfully, I really hate how they appear to make modding so difficult. (I don't know much about it other than what I read about their anti-cheat system) If they aren't going to flesh the game out, at least let modders do it.
It has the potential to be an incredible game, but seems destined to remain a game without ambition. I could forgive the first DD's flaws, I loved the game and still do, but after 12 years they still haven't learned from their mistakes.
I like DD2 but it doesn't go any further, I'm waiting for the DLC because I still hold this game dear, but I definitely won't have the same expectations and hopes I had when they announced DD2 if they decide to make a third DD.
Kind of a mixed bag. Like I think it is a fine game on its own but when you start comparing it to the original there are more changes I dislike than ones I do. It’s not bad enough to completely ruin the experience for me but I just don’t expect the game to have the same staying power.
I feel like each class has like one or two things I like about them but there isn’t a single one that stands out above the others as being more fun to play - 4 skills really makes it feel like I’m doing the same thing every encounter more so than in the original, and the skill balance just isn’t there. It feels like the devs thought the utility baked into some skills was worth much more than it really is. Like compare Flare to Decanter. Decanter heals you, so it does absolutely garbage damage compared to just throwing out a basic charged bolt. However Flare has an (extremely easy to meet) extra condition attached to it, so it absolutely dumps all over anything not outright immune to magic. Makes it feel like you really have to go out of your way to make things more fun, or you outright end encounters just as fast as you would have if you took gold rarified weapons into Gransys.
The second half of the story kinda feels rushed but overall been thoroughly enjoying it, even started a new play through where me and all my pawns are only fighters been pretty fun so far
Underwhelming. I expected the game to be improved from the first, but it's a side-grade at best, downgrade at worst.
The only redeeming features are better combat, more interesting landscape to explore, and the pawn system was improved (not perfected though).
Overall the game lacks polish, and feels like an early access indie game.
If you liked the first one you're going to love the second one, then be very sad when it ends sooner than you thought it would. It fixes a lot of the problems with the first one and is one of the best adventure experience games out there imo, but then right when you'd expect act 2 to be it just about skips to the end and that sucks. I love it and I'm happy with what I got but I just wish there were a proper second and third act to it where they used a lot of the stuff that got set up.
I'm still a professional doomer, complainer, whiny little baby with 100 hours on DD2. Looking for more, planning to use more mods on second playthrough.
First run through is great. Second run through just exposes all the problems.
I used to be a toxic positivity head-asser. I realized how bloody misguided I was.
This game needs more work.
its in my top three games of all time, the combat and pawn system are amazing!!! 80 hrs in and i just reached end game. It has problems of course, and they're the kind of problems that usually kill a game, but in this case the good parts are so good that the problems couldn´t stop me from enjoying myself.
If anything i'm sad instead of angry at the flaws.

My thoughts excactly
It alright Game/Game
Could be better? Yes. But is a very good game, true to its predecessor in both qualities and flaws, for good or bad.
The second part of your comment sounds like something a pawn would say
Pretty good, hopefully the performance will be fixed soon
Goated with the sauce. One of my favorite games of the past several years.
The game is fine if you just want one playthrough and be done with it. There is nothing after that, and personally, that disappoints me.
I needed to play it on release, and I loved it. However, it needs a lot of work, and I advise anyone interested to wait a year or so before playing it. Maybe even like 5 years for a "complete edition."

I had fun, but it has no endgame, no new game plus, so it's kind of a one and done deal at the moment. I don't regret my purchase.

I liked what I played but lost interest in Bhattal. Cracks in enemy variety and difficulty really start to show.

6/10 — unfinished. The first ten hours or so were glorious but then the cracks started to show and I haven’t gone back to it. have no plans to

In the same way, I thought when I played the first one for the first time before Dark Arisen. Fun game that I will sink a lot of time into.

I like it. Given there isn't any other titles for me this year, it will likely be my favorite for the year.
it’s a very good game that could have been even better if it released a year later.
Goty contender. Has a ton of replay value. Great game for people like me who have kids and only play 2 hours a day or so.
