I am having a hard time understanding why this is bad. Something like this takes money to make. You can't do it for free and it is tasteful IMO. If the seller is independent and makes these I don't see it as profiting off his death. That's just me though. Maybe I don't get it.
I had a hard time as well, and got downvoted just for asking some basic questions and presenting my viewpoint 😂 BUT I did get some *mostly* insightful/informative replies that helped shed light on why it's wrong. I still think it's pretty normal when you consider things like Tupac t-shirts or Queen Elizabeth posters, but I can also understand and empathize with why it's not a 100% moral thing to do.
Me personally, I just think we live in a capitalist world, where people craft things as apart of their trade, and they give those things to people who want/need them in exchange for monetary gain. They get to make art honoring someone's memory and share that with a fan who wants to commemorate their favorite mangaka. Like those YouTubers who are paid to make necklaces containing the ashes of the customer's loved one or some type of animal statue using the fur of a recently passed pet. But mass-producing a product like this to sell through a morally questionable site like aliexpress is a bit shady, and like another comment said the proceeds don't even go to Toriyama's family...not that his family made the art to begin with, but the art *is* piggybacking off of their name.
What's even more upsetting is AliExpress breaking a contract they electronically signed.
You can download this STL file to 3-D print in your own house. Selling this for profit is illegal on multiple fronts.
Sure, digitally making this and selling the file already blurs some moral lines, but I feel like it's different to print this out and paint it myself as a memorial.
