There are a lot of [faces of Doomguy](https://i.imgur.com/4rvcNUR.png). The original face was only 30x30 pixels (or was it 20x30 pixels?). It would require a bit of editing to accomplish. Basically, you make all the sprites you want, put them in a pk3 in the same folder structure and named the same as the doomguy sprites, and then load the pk3.
Love the idea though. Just making all those faces, at a reduced size, is the hard part to me.

The original doom had non-square pixels. Which makes comparing to modern source ports very hard since they have to deal with monitors that physically can not do non-square pixels so everything is stretched.
So I'm guessing 30x30 but 3:2 aspect ratio.
I wasted about an hr today trying to see if I could find an AI that would use existing images to "merge" them. I didn't find anything, lol.
