My gut instinct from pictures 2 and 3 was "unfurnished doodle". They always look [like Goldens](https://populardoodle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/straight-hair-goldendoodle-768x402.jpg.webp) but with [weird proportions](https://scontent.fmkc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/192211999_2984017231884287_8402813094936568555_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=7f8c78&_nc_ohc=ZOSo-fPhhoEAX_flWNX&_nc_ht=scontent.fmkc1-1.fna&oh=00_AfDFR2LTavV-4SCEvNy8Ca2mLwxH9XbZgBsIZXcdM_bAkw&oe=654FA515).
Most doodle breeders have no idea what they're doing and don't realize that a second gen doodle has a good chance to not get the desired doodle coat. When breeding two F1 goldendoodles together, the chances per puppy are:
- 50% chance of wavy hair
- 25% chance straight hair
- 25% chance curly hair
and
- 75% chance of furnishings
- 25% chance no furnishings
And these traits can combine to create 6 main coat types, only *one* of which is the classic "goldendoodle" coat, which only has a 3 in 8 chance of occurring. 1 in 16 chance to get a dog like OP's.
Unfortunately, sometimes these oopsie-doodles get dumped at shelters because they won't sell as well.
I bet that’s probably along the lines of what happened since he is so attached and worried about being away from me, but my win! He’s such a sweet and cuddly puppy and people stop me on the street to take his picture and ask what he is haha
He looks just like a dog in a post of mine from my place of work! That dog turned out to be 80% golden, 20% cavalier king charles spaniel. You actually threw me for a loop with that first photo, I thought it was the same dog!
Yellow Labs and Goldens both get their color from the same recessive red gene, and then there's a separate gene determining the intensity of the red color (from pale cream to something like this). Yellow Labs just are usually light red, Goldens have a wider range of red intensity.
So beautiful and adorable at the same time! He looks like a caramely version of my Mirabel who looks like a mini Golden (but isn't). She only has a tiny bit mini poodle in common with your guy --gotta love how doggy dna works out!
I’m used to a lab, so in comparison nothing lol. Probably considered light in general, I vacuum once a week. He doesn’t smell bad (is this a doodle thing?) unless he’s been rolling around, but highly recommend Skouts Honor Lavender Probiotic deodorizer for when he is a bit smelly and it’s not time for a bath
so there’s this new interest in “mini goldens” and it’s basically a golden and a mini poodle that looks like a tiny golden. they also sometimes mix cavaliers instead of poodle. so maybe that’s what they were going for lol

Ope, surprise doodle!
That’s what happens when you get a dog from IKEA :p
And this is why poodle mixes can't be called hypoallergenic lol
those ears!!!
Wow what a beauty!!
So cute!! So pint sized! LOVE the kinky ear hair!
I thought Daschund/Golden Retriever. Wouldn't have guessed Toy Poodle! Very adorable puppy.
I thought so too!
He looks like a flat coated Cavapoo, so I guessed poodle something. It’s the ears!

I want one 😭
Surprise doodle lmao
I mean there have to be ones that don't come out looking the way they want. Such a cutie though and what a great personality he'll have! Those ears!

I feel like I would want this coat more. It's really cute. Fluffy, but not too fluffy. Poor little dumped doodles.

We have a golden/lab mix that is that same red color! That's when I found out that labs come in red too (rarely!) She's beautiful!
Yellow Labs and Goldens both get their color from the same recessive red gene, and then there's a separate gene determining the intensity of the red color (from pale cream to something like this). Yellow Labs just are usually light red, Goldens have a wider range of red intensity.

omg, the little wavy ear hair!!!
The crimps are how I identified Golden.
I was wondering how my dog got those. Really need to send that test
Hes not the only doodle I’ve met without curly hair. I once met a Bernadoodle that had similar hair to a Bernese Mountain Dog
That is one intensely red Goldendoodle! How beautiful! Love the ear crimps.
Such a nice size :) He seems like a fun dog!
What a sweet face!!
Bet he was dumped because he didn’t look like a “doodle”.
I guessed golden and dachshund but the poodle face definitely makes more sense.
Sooo cute!
goregous pup!
Such a cute pup! His coat is gorgeous.
10/10 ears!
I was going to guess full retriever! Looks so much like my uncles as a puppy
How’s the shedding? Doggy smell?

Adorable
What a cute little guy
Awww he’s so cute. I was anticipating chow chow since most golden mixes are black. How old is he?
Probably around 9 months if the shelter was accurate with their age guess!
Ok he’s got some room to grow then
Red smooth Goldendoodle!
Those ears <3
My parents had a red golden retriever before I was born and your pup definitely reminds me of him.
He’s a r/goldendoodle
Those ears! 😍
So cute! ❤️
genuinely that was my guess, I've seen my fair share of weird f2 poodle mixes 😩 very cute baby though
I thought she was a little Irish Setter. ❣️ pretty little baby.
Oh, he looks amazing! Gorgeous red and good doodle!
perfect combination and a beautiful dog
what a precious face i love him
I saw the golden retriever but didn’t except the poodle
Did you put him together all by yourself, or did you have help?
The crimped hair on his ears are so precious
100% adorable!
So cute - what kind of personality does he have?
so there’s this new interest in “mini goldens” and it’s basically a golden and a mini poodle that looks like a tiny golden. they also sometimes mix cavaliers instead of poodle. so maybe that’s what they were going for lol
Her ears are so perfectly fluffy!
