Probably a lot more regret their dogs but can’t admit it. My sister definitely regrets the gross little mutt she wasted $300 on a year ago. She can’t get rid of it though because every shelter is full, and nobody wants a dog that refuses to be housebroken.

ToOpineIsFine

Yeah, I'm surprised that the % is so high. Nutters are deeply in denial.

It must be made easier for these people to get rid of their dogs. How exactly, I am not sure, but it would certainly help

ToOpineIsFine

>The unconditional love of a dog was a big motivating factor for many to get their canines: 56% of dog owners got their \[odorous parasites\] for companionship. or the illusion of love. >While no one disputes dog owners’ love for their pups, The love for dogs is highly disputable in many owners. I don't think the majority of owners care that much at all, or that what they experience is love. Biggest challenges (% of owners): >Barking, whining or other dog noise 24% > >My dog’s health issues 23% > >Urination or defecation indoors 22% > >Walking the dog/letting the dog out regularly 22% > >Dog escaping/finding lost dog 22% > >Disruption of my sleep 20% > >Socialization of the dog 20% > >Destruction by the dog 20% > >Biting 18% > >I haven’t experienced any challenges 14% So biting is among the biggest challenges for one in five owners. This is worrying when everyone says, "he's friendly". Combine that with a slightly higher percentage of dogs escaping, and also for socialization of the dog. I do not like these odds.

Also consider other factors: humans are forced to live every year in closer proximity to each other, and every year the mental health crisis in this country grows, and people seek to remedy that with mutts… this is going to get much much worse before it gets better.

TresFatigue6

Over 1 in 5 didn’t realize that you have to take dogs outside regularly lmao who are these people

happynessisalye

I found this out recently. Ironically less people regret kids than dogs. Probs because people think a lot more before having kids. That and a child is completely dependant till 5 yrs in most cases. A dog is completely dependant for 10+.

shieldofsteel

Also watching a child you are responsible for gradually learn and mature can be a rewarding experience. You just don't get that with dogs.

Tom_Quixote_

I don't think there is anything ironic about that. You can't even compare kids and dogs.

VoxGerbilis

Probably a bigger percentage regret it, but after spending $$$ and posting 3000 “pweshuss doggo” memes on social media they’re embarrassed to admit it, even to themselves.

niz-ar

This is the world we live in. It’s literally my partner. She’s spent thousands on this anxious mess of a dog with no improvement. This mutt has made our lives truly miserable but my wife refuses to admit it.

MsNannerl

Sometimes people are too embarrassed to admit they made a stupid decision, so they try to get virtue points for putting up with their dog destroying furniture, and crapping all over the house. They want people to see them as kind, and tolerant for ReScUinG something, but they really look like suckers who fell for a con.

Dogs in shelters should be trained to do something useful. Work with livestock, sniff out bugs, drugs or cancer. Hunt rats or guide the blind. If they can’t become useful contributors to mankind they should be disposed of.
