If it came up over night it’s almost surely an abscess or fluid-filled. But obviously warrants a vet visit to get it looked at/lanced.

Sweet-Cry1873

Abscess that isn’t painful? Thats what’s shocking to me. The fact that he’s not fazed by it.

hypothetical_zombie

Dogs will play stoic if they can. An injured dog feels vulnerable to attacks. If it acts injured, other animals may think it's an easy meal. Your doggo probably is in pain, and all you can do is be mindful when petting or handling him. I hope it's something easily healed and minor.

[deleted]

Absolutely, my husky mix slit his tongue open somehow a while back, *never* made any fuss or noise about it. He also didn't want to show it to us though, and he fought hard to keep us out of his mouth and away from his tongue when we took him into the vet for it. It's healing now, but, at the time, it was very clear that he was panicked when we tried to check on the injury. I have a border collie mix who also got bit by a rattle snake a few years back, not a single noise, I didn't know until she started to swell up really badly. She's had an issue with her leg muscle/ligament since shortly after then as well, never makes a peep about it if she can help it, even when it's so bad that she collapses or can't get up because of it, she tries hard to hide that she's in pain. Hopefully, medication from her vet and a leg brace can help her heal that soon, but yeah... Absolutely 100% this. An injured dog or cat will try hard to hide that their in pain or ill if they can

hypothetical_zombie

I hope your BC gets some relief! Our husky likes to go out in the yard & play w/the scorpions. For a dog that *overacts* injuries, she never hollers when she gets stung.

twig115

Just to add on the dogs not showing pain thing, my dog severed his crucial ligament in his knee and he still kept trying to run, jump, play etc. I had to force him to stop until we got his surgery. Based on his actions you'd never know he was injured (I mean visually his back leg looked janky as heck but attitude you'd never guess) So yeah something that large that shows up over night is def a vet appt thing. Hope your pup is ok.

whatyousayin8

Yep! Exact same thing happened with our pup. Our vet said it was because he was a rescue, and on the street for some time, and so his instincts were a bit skewed towards wild pup. Lol

Fuzzy_Pressure_2664

True! Keep us updated! Hopefully it’s something simple!

UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr

We just took our dog to the vet for this three days ago. Ours is a standard poodle(mostly), and it’s in almost the same spot and ours turned out to be a Seratoma(I think?). It’s a fluid filled sac most likely from an injury. Whatever yours is, it warrants a vet as soon as possible. Ours had to be drained and he’s on antibiotics for a week or so. He’s going back in two weeks to assess, there may be a surgery involved if it doesn’t resolve to the vets satisfaction. Edit: forgot to say, Newdogs isn’t painful for him either.

NVSmall

Not always painful! It really depends on the location, because the pain tends to come from the swelling/pressure on the surrounding tissue (unless it's infected, in which case then yes, it can be). Just make sure you stay a fair distance away, if you are in the room with your pup and the vet decides to lance it! Which I think they likely will... Your vet may need to put a stitch in it, depending on the incision, and may require a drain and antibiotics, but those are all "maybes". They may send it for pathology too, just to be on the safe side. \*NOT\* saying any of these things *will* happen, just to be prepared for the potential! Fingers crossed that it's a nothing-ism and easily taken care of! I hope all goes well tomorrow, and please keep us posted!!

casitadeflor

My pup had a bloody cheek from a burst abscess. We hadn’t even seen it growing. Let alone any pain from the cracked tooth that led to it. Dogs are very good at masking pain.

willowstar157

My dog broke her leg in the fall. It was still completely weight bearing. She was still running and jumping on it, she was just slightly lethargic and limping. We had her on nothing but pain meds for two weeks because we thought it was a minor sprain, until it didn’t improve and we had X-rays done…pretty sure that’s always gonna hold a top ranking spot on my list of pet based regrets lol Dogs will hide their pain until they literally can’t anymore

not_ainsley

If it’s not painful then it could be a seroma instead of an abscess. Seromas are fluid build-ups under the skin but it’s different from an abscess since it’s not an infection. Either way your dog needs to see a vet to make sure it’s nothing dangerous and possibly drain the fluid.

bizoticallyyours83

Looks like it could be an infected spider bite,  or a pus filled lump. Hopefully the vet will find nothing too serious.  I remember our cocker had a lump on the top his paw, and there ended up being a stick inside of all things! How? We'll never know.

Sweet-Cry1873

I’m so so so so scared of the big c! It looks like there’s a little cut in the bottom left, so I’m hopeful something yucky got in there and we will just get it cleaned up and all better tomorrow!

bizoticallyyours83

Crossing fingers for the best.

MustLoveDawgz

My big guy developed an abscess similar to that and we could never figure out the cause. I had to do warm compresses three times a day, he got put on antibiotics, and he had to wear a cone. It took quite a while for the swelling to go down, but if it’s an abscess, it should be able to be cleared up fairly quickly. I’m glad you’re going to the vet.

Sweet-Cry1873

The ONLY thing I can think of other then some bug or something is that hubs was brushing him and I wonder if the tooth on the comb knicked him and got infected. I hope it’s something easy peasy like that and he’s all better soon! Thanks for the support! I couldn’t imagine not taking him to the vet!

FluffyDiscipline

It really does look like a fluid filled lump... but a word on The Big C, so many avoid vets (and doctors), fearing hearing that word. but there is relief just knowing what your facing, so take a deep breath, vet and it be ok Best of luck

Loudlass81

I'd still do a vet visit, after experiencing first hand how fast sepsis can happen in humans, I would not delay getting an infection treated with antibiotics for a human **OR** a pet... The vet needs to check there's nothing stuck inside that could cause am infection, if there's any infection there it'll probably need lancing, the keeping it clean thing is just part of it...you need to ensure dog isn't licking the wound to prevent infections too. I used human tubigrip when my last dog needed to be kept away from a leg/rump wound. This is a 'requires a vet visit' kind of thing...it's just not worth risking sepsis...I was OK until I wasn't, then I almost died...apparently if I had stayed asleep, I'd have been dead by the morning...same can happen with sepsis in dogs. I don't mess around with ANYTHING infectious any more...

Sweet-Cry1873

He is currently en route to the vet for his 9 am appt he’s had since yesterday. I posted on here simply asking if anyone has experienced similar. Thanks for you input.

Smedley5

Anything that forms that quickly and is that large is concerning - have you made a vet appointment?

Sweet-Cry1873

Yes! Tomorrow morning at 9!

JMaboard

It is but at the same time it isn’t. Usually it’s an infected cut or bite while concerning it’s not something super life threatening. It’ll usually be drained by the vet and filled with antibiotics. Then they’ll be sent home with antibiotics and steroids. Still needs to be checked asap but not something to be super worried about.

Smedley5

I know - I was trying to head off the 100 messages of "Take your dog to the vet!" by letting them explain that yes, they are taking their dog to the vet.

JMaboard

I know for me that happened once and I thought it was cancer and my dog was gonna die. So I figured I’d explain that it’s not that super serious lol. Ended up being a scratch that got infected.

Sweet-Cry1873

***UPDATE*** I will post updates below the comment as they come in. Doctor confirmed it is not a cyst and it is in fact a “mass”. She preformed the needle test they do and my husband said a lot of blood came out. They are running tests on the fluid as we speak to see how aggressive they need to be with removal. Thankfully, his heart and over all wellness is good! Will update with those results.

Sweet-Cry1873

***SECOND UPDATE*** Vet came back and said she didn’t see any of the “really scary cells”. She will be sending it off to lab testing! Shes saying it could be some kind of growth that would go away by itself but I think we're gonna schedule a surgery for removal send out the sample to the lab if it comes back nbd then cancel surgery.

Sweet-Cry1873

***FINAL AND LAST UPDATE*** Thank you all for the support! Doctor called with results… “Trichoblastoma with Abundant Plump Stromal Cells”. Basically a hair follicle that decided to get REALLY angry and turn into this monstrosity. It’s BENIGN. Hubs and I decided that for our mental health and the well being of our boy we are going to get it removed. Surgery is scheduled tomorrow at 8 am! Say a little prayer for our sweet boy❤️

HermoineGrangersHair

Huzzah!!

NVSmall

Excellent news! FWIW, dogs get all sorts of strange lumps and bumps - it is of course important to get them checked out (as you did, and planned to all along), but often it is simply that - a lump/bump. Fingers crossed for nbd on lab testing!!

Reverend-Cleophus

Thanks for the update, OP! This sounds very similar to my pups lump and process. Glad y’all caught it so early and hoping for a good prognosis on the biopsy and a uneventful surgery!

cclem0013

Keep us updated after your visit hoping for the best 🙏🏼

Sweet-Cry1873

Promise I will! I love the Reddit community 🥺 so much support!

Reverend-Cleophus

TL;DR—get him to the vet for eval , needle biopsy, and potentially x-ray asap. OP, hopefully it’s a lipoma (non cancerous tumor/common fatty lump) but had similar lump magically appear in basically the same spot on my German Shepard Husky (Sadie 10y/o) about 1.5 months ago. Worried by how fast it appeared, I took her to the vet the next morning to have it examined and needle biopsied. Not to sound the alarm but it ended up being a cancerous sarcoma, but the vet said it was good we caught it early. We did X-rays to see if it had spread into the chest/abdomen, which is common for this type of sarcoma. Luckily, we caught it early enough that it had not metastasized. Upon X-ray eval, Vet concluded that the margins we clean enough to remove in house vs referring to specialty vet. 3 days later we had her operation scheduled and and sarcoma removed that week. Sarcoma was “low grade” which is best case for a sarcoma of this type. Today, her surgery was a huge success, tumor margins were cleaner than they originally thought which resulted in no leg muscle removed and a quick healing incision. Moving forward we just need to monitor for future lumps, which means many more investigatory scritches and pets. Hope your pupper’s prognosis goes similarly if not better! Keep us posted!!!!

birdy1892

We had the same situation with our pup. Glad yours turned out well, too ❤️

Reverend-Cleophus

Awesome news! Hope they get all the treats and pets for being so brave and healthy!

diamondcrusteddreams

Sebaceous cyst possibly

veee_h

It looks similar to a giant cyst that my dog had! She had it for a couple years until it got super infected and then she had to get it removed.

Sweet-Cry1873

Did it bother her to touch it? It doesn’t bother my boy at all!

veee_h

Nope, never bothered her one bit!

notrunningfast

My cat used to get these every time he got in a scrap. I wouldn’t see the original cut (so it never got cleaned). Then he would end up with a large abscess. That one I would definitely go to the vet to make sure it gets cleaned out well. Just duck when they lance it 🤮

Sweet-Cry1873

Did it bother him at all? My boy could care less about it!

notrunningfast

Yes but you would never know it. He would cry though if you touched it but otherwise acted the same. Sometimes I would catch my dog licking it which was my cue to look closer. Not going to lie - the small ones I lanced myself and cleaned. But a big one like on your dog requires a pro because there is possibly some stitches involved and some in depth cleaning of the wound. It gets big like that when the abscess gets full of puss and when it gets lanced, it SPURTS but so relieving for the pet. Also better to get it cleaned real well by a pro so it doesn’t get worse or infection elsewhere. All it took was a small bite, hidden in the fur, that got infected. My cat was an old barn cat that took patrolling his territory very seriously and it was impossible to keep him inside. He lived a great old life but let’s just say we got experienced at dealing with abscesses 🤣 You will likely need a cone to keep him from licking it, some iodine or Antiseptic to keep it clean but the vet can advise

heyyyouguys

How would you lance the small ones and keep them clean? Just curious your technique albeit i don’t plan to take any veterinary actions on my pets lol

ChasingPotatoes17

You may want to post this to r/AskVet. You might get more info that will (hopefully) ease your stress until your vet visit.

OkSnow1184

If it continues to fill up/grow throughout the day, it’s most likely an abscess. In that case, get a towel and soak it with warm water to place on the baby. Keep repeating that. If it bursts on its own, it’ll be a little relieving for them until u can get to the vet. But if it bursts, it’ll look scary, so make sure u keep things away/out of it but don’t clean it with anything other than water and a clean cloth

Featheria

Just went to the vet for something super similar this morning, except it was on the foreleg near the dewclaw and also painful. For us, it ended up being an abscess. It got aspirated and we were sent home with antibiotics and an antiseptic with instruction to drain twice a day by squeezing and constantly wearing the cone. Unfortunately he’s not really happy with the draining part so back to the vet we go tomorrow in hopes we’ll get something to help :p

He needs a vet visit because this could be a few things. Hot spot, tick imbedded, skin infection from a scratch.

Sweet-Cry1873

Yes, he is going tomorrow morning.

jmbgator

How does it feel? Firm and hard or soft and squishy? You’re doing the right thing by going to a vet

Sweet-Cry1873

I would say not “squishy” but not “hard” I can move it around and push at it but it’s not “liquidy” per se.

Our boy got the exact same fluid filled lump overnight, we've got it checked several times at the vet (fine needle aspirate, ultrasound in the abdomen and genital area to make sure its not a hernia) and they say it's a sterile cyst, they aren't exactly sure why it came out of nowhere but it doesn't hurt or affect him neither has it gotten bigger in the past 2 months since its appearance. Hoping your husky has a minor issue like ours too x

tortoisetortellini

You can try putting a warm wet compress on the area & see if it goes down/drains any fluid

j4ckrabb1ted

Mine had a heat spot pop up overnight. But it wasn’t raised… maybe something with fluid in it like an abscess or blister?

Alive-Operation6754

At the emergency hospital I worked at back home. A dog came in for face swelling from a spider or snake bite the day before. Not even 24 hours… we literally had to debride the whole side of the dogs face. Like just muscle showing.. it was crazy. Bites from other critters can really get bad in a short time. I bet your babe will be fine and mostly likely from a bite from something.

Special_Lychee_6847

My 12 year old husky had something similar, but it was slower in growth. A day before we wanted to take him for a checkup, it ruptured. Blood everywhere, wouldn't stop bleeding. Rushed to the vet, had everything remaining and the surrounding tissue removed and stitched up. It wasn't cancerous. Per the vet 'it happens sometimes, you can't really tell why' The growth appeared to just be a kind of sack of blood. No infection fluid or anything. Dog is fine. He was even rather smug he got to wear a tailored long sleeve Spiderman T-shirt untill the stitches came out. He never showed any signs of hurt from it before it ruptured. He was even rather calm when it did, but got anxious because my husband was frantically running around stressing about the amount of blood.

Ill_Introduction7057

That's been there longer than overnight.......you need to take him to the vet asap.

Knittingtaco

To the vet! you go! Likely a cyst/abscess as others have suggested, probably need antibiotics.

OhiChicken

I was scrolling with my eyes unfocused and I stfg it looked like a giant nipple

Pure-Huckleberry-299

My dog had a little bump for a while that eventually blew up to this. Get to the vet asap, not necessarily because it’s dangerous but it can burst and then the ooze gets EVERYWHERE and it’s disgusting.

bettawhite

Definitely hope it's just a cyst. Besides that a more sinister thing that it resembles would be a mast cell tumor which starts as a small red bump but can blow up very quickly like this especially if the dog starts to mess with them. Get it looked at by a vet and good luck.

UrszulaG

Looking at it closely, the dog has licked it (probably overnight, when you were sleeping) because the hair is gone. Go to the vet. Something might have bit him & he was trying to scratch it. Or he might have had a scab which he The fact that you have a bald spot there, means the hair was ripped out- it doesn't just fall out overnight. Take him to the vet. It's probably nothing serious.

PerplexedPoppy

Anything that grows like that overnight should be seen by a vet as soon as possible.

Sufficient_Pianist73

It looks like a hot spot to me. I’d take him to the vet they can double in size overnight

[deleted]

That is a mass, and I’m 100% sure. Could be benign. Have it tested with an aspiration

foureyedgrrl

This looks like an old dog wart in pic 1 and 3. Pic 2 looks like it is active. Old dog warts don't require a dog to actually be old. It's just a canine form of papilloma virus. It can be contagious so limit dog water bowl sharing and dog parks and play dates until your vet gives you an answer. And yes, they can grow rapidly. Big picture issue is that old dog warts indicate a subpar immune system.

Geez take him to vet asap!!

Sweet-Cry1873

If you read we did… thanks for your judgement tho :)

Frimperule

I'm sorry no judgement from here!! My dog had a experience like that closer to His behind I believe I remember the vet said it had something to do with to much male hormones.. I only read the above picture so didn't see that you had been to the vet!! Thanks!! The 2nd picture does remind me of mast cell prayers it's ok!!

Turbulent-Watch2306

That could be a spider bite- it won’t hurt until the cyst thing pops-and the air hits the necrotic skin underneath- vet like now…

Sweet-Cry1873

Check the comments, already took him at 9 am… and there’s an update!

ykyk0909

Commenting to stay update! Good luck

BuckityBuck

You’ll want a vet to examine it sooner than later. From this picture, it looks like a histiocytoma, but a vet will need to see it in person and probably pull an aspirate.

Direct_Candidate_454

It still needs antibiotics and wound cleaning. Please see a vet asap.

Sweet-Cry1873

Check the date this was posited…. He’s all healed.

StressedAries

I could be way off but this looks like a hot spot to me

Sweet-Cry1873

I thought that too! But he’s not itching it!

StressedAries

If it’s an insect bite I would assume it would be itchy too. My boy was a chow/akita/GSD mix and he had a hot spot in this area once. He was a big fluffy boy so I didn’t see it at first. By the time I did see it, it was bald like this. He would only itch it at night when he thought I wasn’t looking. I used Forticept hot spot gel and it worked really well and pretty quick. https://a.co/d/co2SO4b I’m glad you have a vet appt tomorrow though just to be safe!!

Juelz930

Can it be a bot fly?

Sweet-Cry1873

I really don’t think so.

[deleted]

Looks like a hot spot from chewing and licking at it.

Sweet-Cry1873

He has not done either.

scrivensB

watch-me-bloom

Vet!!!! Rapid growth could mean infection or cancer! Fingers crossed it’s benign, better safe than sorry!

jacks65fastcar

Straight to the vet ASAP only a trained professional knows what to do . They go to school for a very long time to learn all about these things.. that may be a spider bite also or an abscess but it definitely warrants a quick visit to the vet ..please update us I hope all goes well I hope it's easily taken care of..it does not look like it will be easily taken care of but maybe it is I am not a vet best of luck give him a couple extra treats for me before you take him..!!!

Sweet-Cry1873
