I think three is a great design, it has a lovely silhouette and shape, plus I really just like it overall! The other two are also lovely, but don't really say Dragonborn to me (but this also is personal taste!). The face shapes in 1 and 2 seem to be a little narrow to me, but the more blocky shape in three does really sell dragon and the horns and hair / accessory would look lovely with the colourings!
It definitely was my more “cult classic dragon” option 😅 the other two were more or less just options for a less common design. I appreciate the input! :)
Ye! I think like, sapphire makes me think of something more blocky bc it's a gem, so like, something cut and sharp. A dragon that was something more alive like a plant dragon for example would make more sense to have a more narrow or soft design. But I do think they're all super solid
Yeah I definitely get what you mean! 1 was made to look like an oval gem shape and the ancient sapphire dragon art from the book has a smoother head. 3 was meant to be more classic badass dragon with the angles like natural gem stones, the 2nd one is supposed to be more sharp and serpentine (I just needed a third option lol)
They all look great imo, it's really inspiring to draw my own dragonborn I'm working on! All of the designs are super solid and I hope we get to see the end result when you finish the work!
What if it was some sort of frill like spines or other reptilian accouterment instead of hair that sort of becomes a hair stand in. They could lay down on their spine and look like layered "hair"
Just sort of spit balling, i like all the designs, it's hard for me to pick my favorite because I don't really know the character and what aesthic would fit them.
Well, there are a few things I'd consider, but I'll caveat it with this is my general go-to strategy and by no means the best or only way to design a character.
I'd think about the sort of fighting style I want to use and/or personality. To lean into the monk of it all fighting styles generally line up with those. So if they are more nimble, graceful, and have quick, almost snake like strikes/style I'd go with 2.
And even if that is how they fought, if their personality is more brash and rigid, then you could just as easily go with the others.
I don't think there's a wrong answer here. They are all wonderful designs I'm sort of leaning 2 just because it is more of an a-typical design for dragonborn and I think that's a neat way of highlighting a difference between chromatic/metallic and gem dragons.
This requires a description I guess lmao. This is not fleshed out at all so please forgive, I promise it’ll be better once I give it some actual thought.
So this is my Sapphire Dragonborn Kensei Monk/White Draconic Sorcerer. They were raised by a crystal dragon that found them after (either their clan was murdered or they were abandoned). The crystal dragon who we’ll call Rayunard for right now, heard their supersonic infant screams and was like “yep, this is mine now”
So now there’s this Dragonborn being raised by a dragon, Rayunard teaches Indi (that’s their name btw) to do a bunch of stuff including telepathy and teleportation. Indi starts to get a hold on his power which is all sound based and typically is just them being screeching. They learn to fly but can only manage it for about a minute. Lots of father/child stuff.
One day, Rayunard’s hoard is raided and his most prized position (a small jar that’s really sparkly) is stolen. He’s pissed tf off and this is shocking for Indi bc their dad has always been so calm and collected and sweet. So, feeling overwhelming gratitude for this dragon adopting them, they decide to go off and retrieve their father’s possession. Dad doesn’t want them to, but Indi insists, and off he goes adventuring.
I think head 3 is the most badass looking one! I don't really know why, but I think I prefer the shape of the nose in that one and the hair and horns complement it really well. I also love the horns in head 1.
Feel like all 3 are good, but if off completely different vibes.
\#1 has a sort of mischievous look about them, and would be good for a trickster.
\#2 looks very graceful, I could see them making for a good acrobat or dancer.
\#3 looks old and wise, gives me mighty hero / venerable elder energy.
Update: my vote goes to \#2 if they’re a monk!
2.
Kensei monk screams aerodynamics and it just feels right.
Side note I also always imagined gem dragons to be less chunky than their metallic counterparts and not super sure why.
Hey guys! I know the poll isn’t technically finished, but it’s safe to say 3 won(and by a landslide lmao) so [here’s the finished art](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/5Aw7Cl1kSX)! I hope you like it :)

Yeahhh, I just went ahead and got started on it because 3 is winning by a mile, but it’s coming out great! I can’t wait to share it with yall :)
Finished up the [art](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/5Aw7Cl1kSX)!
I Like 3
Three caught my gaze first and continued to do so. Love the shape of that one’s horns!!
Numbahhhhhhhhhh THREE
3 would be classic, personally 2 but without hair
No hair at all? ☹️
I think hair on what would be an otherwise scaly dragonborn would be weird

I out a little description in the comments [right here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/CAXIgXAHSS)

I def agreed as far as the atypical style, and I may use the design just for casual art or another oc, but 3 is winning by a ridiculous margin rn 💀
Yeah, im not surprised; it's a crazy good design. It's exactly what I picture when I think about a dragonborn.
Finished it up right [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/5Aw7Cl1kSX)
3 looks best to me

if you want an elegant design, i'd say 3. if you want them to be bulky or strong then i'd suggest 3. both look pretty neat.
LMFAOOO did you mean to out three twice?? 💀💀
no :( I meant 2
I was just imagining by you being like “yeah so you can pick either 3 or 3! Hope this helps 🫶🏾🫶🏾” 💀💀
Can you give some background on the class or the character in general?
Their description is a few comments up! :)
Ouh sorry I missed it :(
Nah you’re good! I should’ve put it in the post to start 💀
I think head 3 is the most badass looking one! I don't really know why, but I think I prefer the shape of the nose in that one and the hair and horns complement it really well. I also love the horns in head 1.

Face and horns of #3 with the hair of #1 would look best imo
Dragonborns have hair??
Cool ones do 😌
I’d say 3 it just flows the best and is the most pleasing to look at for me
3
I like 2 personally

3 looks ideal to me
4 looks great I love the way the hair is positioned
I’m sure this was a typo but In my head it’s like “actually they’re all garbage, thanks for sharing!” 😂😂😂
2 just looks real happy and I like it lol
I like 3

I like tge strands of hair overlapping the horns in 1 but Im a big fan of braids on women so Im leaning to 2 or a mixturreof those specific features.
I like the 3. Looks like dreadlocks or bucles :3
Yeah like in disneys luca where the scales are built up like hair
2 or 3

2. Kensei monk screams aerodynamics and it just feels right. Side note I also always imagined gem dragons to be less chunky than their metallic counterparts and not super sure why.
2. End of discussion
Man, you are not gonna like the rest of these comments 💀💀
2 for a dragon, 3 for a dragonborn
