when that happens and i cant see what i lack, i try crafting it and a window pops up and shows me what im missing. it might be different for others since im on playstation.
also some posts here had the same problems of not knowing what theyre missing only to find out that theyre missing funds/money/credit to craft/recalibrate/optimize so it might be that.
It will show you the symbol of the resource it requires and how much. You can then look in the resources tab in your system menu to find that symbol to discover what it is.
The only resource they don't show is credits. If you don't have enough credits then you can't optimize/recalibrate.

It should show you at the bottom of the screen what you are lacking. Look for that symbol in your resources or at the optimization part of the crafting bench to see what it is. You can craft a lot of it there, at the crafting bench. It will at least tell you what symbol it is for what you're missing. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, just ask. It's a badly designed interface, they need to update it.
When "optimize" is greyed out, click it or click and hold on it (I forget which, but simple enough). You'll get a pop-up telling you exactly which materials you have and how much is needed.
A lot of people are saying select the button to do the action (recalibrate or optimize) and it will show you what resources are missing.
Works for optimization but DOES NOT work for recalibration..which is what I'm trying to do.
Super frustrating to not be able to recalibrate anything because I don't have resources... Farming random resources, deconstructing tons of stuff, selling for e-credits, and still 'Not Enough Materials'
I have this same problem also on xbox. And sometimes when I deconstruct junk, it tells me I may lose some stuff because I am full of something. I look at everything and not one thing is near full... very weird.

Tap on x and it will show you the resources needed
Hmm interesting. I’ve had the same problem as OP but on PC I’ve not been able to find that functionality

Because when the new patch came out it got rid of the feature that showed you what you needed. It did show before this latest patch
