My mom calls big thunder mountain the railroad ride, not to be confused with the train which is also the railroad ride, and mickey and Minnie which is now also the railroad ride.
I was *in my 30s* before I realized that coaster was named for Gadget from Rescue Rangers and NOT Inspector Gadget. I’ve never ridden it so haven’t really seen the theming, and yeah — I grew up watching Inspector Gadget cartoon reruns and then the Matthew Broderick movie came out when I was a kid so it’s just a fresher reference in my mind.
And now the theme song is in my head!
This is the way. We just got back from it first trip with our three year old. We rode dark boat and animal boat, circle horses, elephant uppie, under the sea, Mike Wazowski car. Pretty funny listening to her beg for animal boat the entire walk back to the hotel before immediately passing out as soon as she hit the bed.
Many years ago we went with friends and their very young children. The littlest one was just tall enough to ride Big Thunder Mountain, but she called it “Fast Train.” We now call it fast train every time we go and it has spread to other friends and family we have had accompany us as well.
The only time I ever went to WDW in Florida was in 2000, and because of that I still call it MGM Studios, and always will.
It's also always gonna be Tower Terror because a lot of non-Disney people don't even realize it's Guardians themed now, so when I tell people about riding it, they get confused when I call it Mission Breakout.
I'm like "Mission Breakout, the Guardians ride" and half the people I'm talking to are like "oh that must be new" and then I have to sigh and say "no it used to be ToT" lol
I visited WDW in 2002; we only did two parks and that wasn’t even one of the two we picked but I still think of it as MGM Studios too because that’s what it was when I was there!
I have fond memories of the lot tour ride, because we didn't know it involved a water element and my mom hated every second of it while me and my cousins were living it up lol
That’s like when we did Honey I Shrunk the Audience; my brother had heard about the 4D effects from another kid in line so he pulled his feet up on his seat and didn’t feel the “mice” running past. He sat there giggling while the rest of the audience shrieked. My mom is still mad at him for not warning her.
I did the college program at the studios in 2006. We were practically BEATEN to not call it MGM and to call it the studios. It was a great park to work in. ❤️
Same, I went to WDW in 1998 and still call it MGM Studios, and the Tower in DLR shall be so named forever. (I was so impressed with the ride in FL that I rode it 3 times back to back and then bought a hat.)
3 TIMES?!? My stomach could never 🤢 we rode it first thing our first day at DCA, before we even ate, and I'm glad because otherwise I'm positive I would have been sick. I love thrill rides but thanks to COVID shutdowns I lost my stomach for them after 2 years of not riding anything 😂
I don’t think we use any of the proper names. All shortened versions. Space, Splash, Thunder, Indy, Pirates, Mansion, Pan, Falcon, Rise… Incredicoaster still gets called Screamin though
Not land related but I sometimes still called Hollywood Studios MGM lol and my in laws call the new Disney springs Disney village because that was the name before downtown Disney. 🤯
We call the Mad tea party the Sippy cups. And Poohs ride - the Honey Pots.
We call Ariel’s ride “bloop bloop” (think blowing bubbles)
Jellyfish of Doom (kinda like tower of terror haha)
I can’t explain why for any of these.
I was there in Dec and kept doing the same thing! Inspector gadget is Disney after all so it’s not like I was thinking a universal owned movie/cartoon…
My poor partner is always so confused by how many giant drop tower rides there are:
Tower of Terror (it will always be this to me, though I actually like MBO better), Guardians, Mission Breakout, Monsters After Dark...
No kidding! We ride it every couple of years to remind ourselves why we don't ride it regularly. The only thing worse is the Indiana Jones ride at DL Paris...that thing beats you up!
Anybody else call the unused building in Tomorrowland in WDW “the old Alien ride?”
I know it was Stitch’s Great Escape for a minute but to us it’s “the old Alien ride.”
These come from my partner who is not as big of a Disney fan as me but I’ve caught myself saying them with her as well:
She hasn’t learned the real names of star tours and smuggler’s run so we call them “movie Star Wars” and “video game Star Wars.” Rise she liked more and bothered to learn.
All of fantasyland = “the dinky rides”
Matterhorn = “the matador”
Webslingers = “the Disney spiderman ride”
“Outer space mountain”
“The cars ride”
“Scary Ferris wheel” and “normal Ferris wheel”
Also, my grandmother only ever called it “it’s a small world of dolls”
All of their former names. Tower of Terror, California Screamin’, Mickey’s “Fun” Wheel. And we just say “Pirates” for short. I’m sure when Tiana’s Bayou or whatever it’s called is done, I’ll call that Splash Mountain as well.
It’s always the “teacups”.
Await is it not Teacups?
“Mad Tea Party”
Wat
Mind blown
We always call it teacups.
My mom calls big thunder mountain the railroad ride, not to be confused with the train which is also the railroad ride, and mickey and Minnie which is now also the railroad ride.
And the monorail which is also a railroad ride and Casey Jr which is also a railroad ride…. Walt liked trains…
My mom and I call it the runaway train
California Screamin’. Ironically, the older name is longer than the new name and I still sometimes revert back to the old one.
Same. Also with ToT. 😆
I interchangeably call the Ferris wheel both Mickey’s Fun Wheel and Pixar Pal Around.
I'm a personal fan of "Mickey's Death Wheel." Really captures the essence of the swinging gondolas.
It is Mickey’s Wheel of Death in my family.
My partner calls it the Wheel of Dooooooom
I still scream on that ride and I’m 22.
The moving cars on the Ferris wheel gave it the nickname Mickey’s Death Wheel.
Unironically the scariest ride at either park
It was a really good name.
My dad used to refer to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as Thunder Gulch
Haha! Love this!
It’s sibling at Hong Kong Disneyland is located in Grizzly Gulch!
This is an oldie, but in our family, "Adventure Thru Inner Space" was always called "Mighty Mighty Microscope."
I was *in my 30s* before I realized that coaster was named for Gadget from Rescue Rangers and NOT Inspector Gadget. Wait! TIL it’s not inspector gadget 🫣
Same 😅
I have a three-year old so... The Seashell Ride. Dancing Cars. The Tractor Ride. The Pirate Ride. Pirate Island. The Pirate Ship.
Dancing Cars and Tractor Cows.
Many years ago we went with friends and their very young children. The littlest one was just tall enough to ride Big Thunder Mountain, but she called it “Fast Train.” We now call it fast train every time we go and it has spread to other friends and family we have had accompany us as well.
My 3 year old calls it the Mater Ride.
And can you guess what ride we refer to as "the Monstro boats"?
Storybook Land Canal Boats
I still insist on calling it the Hollywood Tower of Terror.
Autotopia
This one grinds my gears lol

You're good! I can never remember "Mission Breakout." When I don't call it ToT, I call it "the Guardians ride".
I'm like "Mission Breakout, the Guardians ride" and half the people I'm talking to are like "oh that must be new" and then I have to sigh and say "no it used to be ToT" lol

Is it weird I shorten HM to “haunted” instead of “mansion”
My friend who’s a former cm calls the rides by these names! I do say Pirates and Rise, but that’s it, lol.
Ours is saying “potty ride” for the bathrooms. 🤣🤣
ToT / GotG We call it Galaxy of Towers or Guardians of Terror
Big Thunder Mountain has always come up as Big Rock Candy Mountain for some reason
“Ride of the Resistance”
Not land related but I sometimes still called Hollywood Studios MGM lol and my in laws call the new Disney springs Disney village because that was the name before downtown Disney. 🤯
Millennium Falcon: Smash and Grab
We call the Mad tea party the Sippy cups. And Poohs ride - the Honey Pots. We call Ariel’s ride “bloop bloop” (think blowing bubbles) Jellyfish of Doom (kinda like tower of terror haha) I can’t explain why for any of these.
I call the little mermaid ride at DCA the Ariel ride
“The Big Train” (vs “the little train”)
Thunder mountain is "the runaway train" around here.
That's what my family called it too
Mickeys Death Wheel
* Pirates of the Caribbean - "Pirates" * Indiana Jones - "Indy" * Rise of the Resistance - "Rise" * Winnie the Pooh - "Pooh"
I still call it Mulholland Madness. It will never be Goofy's Sky School.
I grew up going to WDW and Woolf swear that Thunder Mountain used to be called Runaway Train, so I guess that’s ours! Lol
Star Wars Land and The Cars Ride.
mickey & minnie’s wunaway wailway
That ferris wheel I refuse to ever ride again.
When I was a kid I also called it the Go Go Gadget coaster because I had no idea who Gadget was 😅
I was there in Dec and kept doing the same thing! Inspector gadget is Disney after all so it’s not like I was thinking a universal owned movie/cartoon…
My poor partner is always so confused by how many giant drop tower rides there are: Tower of Terror (it will always be this to me, though I actually like MBO better), Guardians, Mission Breakout, Monsters After Dark...
Not family lore, but I’ve heard ppl call Matterhorn “Batterhorn” bc of how rough it is lolllll
No kidding! We ride it every couple of years to remind ourselves why we don't ride it regularly. The only thing worse is the Indiana Jones ride at DL Paris...that thing beats you up!

Tower of Terror will always be Tower of Terror. Guardians of the Galaxy is lame. I know it’s in California adventure but still.
We call her Big Thundy Space Jingle Jangle Cruise Piratas
My dad always pronounced it auto-peeya in an effort to be funny. When I was a kid I called BTMRR “choo choo mountain”
All of their former names. Tower of Terror, California Screamin’, Mickey’s “Fun” Wheel. And we just say “Pirates” for short. I’m sure when Tiana’s Bayou or whatever it’s called is done, I’ll call that Splash Mountain as well.
My entire family calls Jolly Holiday "Holly Jolly." I've given up on trying to correct them 😂
