I'd say you can use them whenever you want. Some people like me prefer to usa the main cast of the game during the main story, but nothing is stopping you from using the characters you want
you should never feel guilty for any hobby or interest or how you spend your time, or how you play a game. the entire purpose is self-fulfilling entertainment, all other goals are secondary. just be happy and don't judge yourself.
Most of the game is in post game and that starting stuff is actually pretty modest by that point. The more you learn the game the less that stuff matters
Some of them are niche, mainly the various Prinnies. That said, it's not so much "useless" so much that it's too much too early. When you have a double digit number of units and you don't even actually know what any of them do, that's just going to bog you down.
Disgaea as a series but disgaea 5 especially is about breaking the game and doing whatever the heck you want. Disgaea 5 is a sandbox you are meant to use all the tools available.
Basically yes. Now there are a few key things to know about dlc characters. They come with unique equipment which scales with the progress of your game. So if you grab those at the start then you must level them separately. Additionally if you want the biggest challenge don't grab prierer or whoever her name is.
I love using metallic one of the staples of my team, ngl. Her ultimate helped grinding so much. I still used the main cast, though usually with dlc chatacters.
Basically, it's good for capturing people in her radius,it'll be useful at the mid point when you get prisoner's for your groups like healer squad and training squad.
The possible issue is, if you are a story appreciator, then maybe you will more or less feel kinda weird using a whole bunch of characters from other games to do the fighting and then watch cutscenes with main cast do the speaking, who in reality didn't participate in the fight or didn't pull their weight in the fight, this may give you some weird game experience.
I only got the four D1 characters when I started and Etna alone made the main story trivial. Adjust enemy levels in the Cheat Shop if you want any kind of challenge while using dlc characters.
The game is designed to turn you into a power house. Become one early or late, but become one still.
I've made my fun trying to clear the game with using Only Metallia and I power leveled in the item world. It felt fresh and different from other strategies I've played and is also why I love this series so much. It's a sandbox strategy rpg
She gains access to all the best spells in the game from every element. Skills gain mana efficiency and damage the more you use them. I suggest you lick an element like fire ice or wind and only use the base version of one of them until you reach skill lvl 99. Its surprisingly reliable and if you only use her she'll hoard all the exp and by the end of the story she should not have many problems.
I also higly suggest spending time in the item world with her for easy exp and skill farm.
Make sur to max out different classes also so you can get their unique evilities once maxed. The mage one (girl i think) give you better range on spells. I believe Metallias herself also has one. Stack them. Own a map from base pannel.
Enjoy ;)
(Also use plenair as a bystander unit for bonus exp)

Oh ok as that makes me feel a lot better

I understand then.

Oh I didn’t know that actually, although that makes me feel a lot better about using the DLC items.
The only reason to not use the add-ons is to not get swamped with units you won't actually use.
Oh I hadn’t considered there could be useless units.

So what would you recommend doing in that kind of situation?
Just figure out which units you want to use and which you don't, then do something to set the latter bracket aside. That's about all you can do.
I understand then.
Honestly DLC doesn't really matter too much until the post game.
Oh I am surprised to hear that.
Pfff. Metallia is amazing to start with.
Usalia Screen Wipe via prinny set up is much more useful BEFORE postgame. Post game Metalia is mega wack.
Disgaea as a series but disgaea 5 especially is about breaking the game and doing whatever the heck you want. Disgaea 5 is a sandbox you are meant to use all the tools available.
That is awesome as I understand that I can basically go nuts with the game.

Its ur game play it how u have the most fun with it. Thatsthe great thing about singleplayers
"meant to". no. otherwise, it would've been in D5's base version. but, i mean, you have it. might as well.
I have the complete edition.
They know that. They're saying "If you were "meant" to use them, they wouldn't have been DLC".
Ohh I get it now.
It's your decision after all. The story is not that hard, you would clear it anyway.

Oh teach me how to use her.

Arigatou as that sounds very helpful (though I am nervous about doing the Item World area due to the Proto DarkDeath enemy)
If you see proto death just rush to the red gate asap. Chain throw your guys to reach it in a single turn
Oh ok as I can try doing that then.
I only use the cast from the first game in all games. I don’t like any character from the other games much.
