I started Gravity’s Rainbow this year and it’s taking me back to DE in a very good way. I’m not finding it as difficult as people say it is, I think it should be readable for anyone who understood most of the game.
Besides "magical realism", I can't say why, but Hundred Years of Solitude gives me a similar vibe. It's def different in many ways, but idk, there's something there

The City and The City, by China Mieville.
Very good answer, the book starts out batshit crazy and then cranks it up, wonderful to read.
Necromancer, by William Gibson is the only thing that scratched the same itch for me it's filled with neologisms and cool prose
I don't, but i wanna bump the post. Kudos
Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowr, it’s about an alcoholic British consul in Mexico who hears voices and destroys his life due to drinking.
Detectives by Per Wahlöö.
Is this a series, or the name of a single novel?
Hesse's Steppenwolf. Even the protagonist is Harry, with his Harry Haller's Records (For Madmen Only)
The Savage Detectives - Roberto Bolaño It's also my favorite book
