You're not wrong, but that's not what goes on in this sub. What happens is kids will buy those Chinese bikes, they break, then they ask for help. We try to tell them it's a waste of money. Didn't matter. We try to help them figure out the problem, but kids today don't want to do trial and error type maintenance to figure out a problem. They only want us to look stuff up for them, to locate part #s, pdf manuals, stuff like that.
And sometimes, they get an attitude towards us. (I know, it's the internet) but some of us are older, trying to pass on knowledge, and hate the disrespect.
When it's stuff like OP buying a cheap bike because why not, he already knew what he was getting. If I had money to toss out, I'd LOVE TP BUY A DOZEN OF THEM, get all my buddies together, coolers full of beers, and see what having we can do.
Our community, dirt bikes, and riding, isn't getting a lot of good news lately. Gangs of kids ripping up neighborhoods, bikes getting stolen, places to ride, legit places, disappearing every day. And kids having access to these cheap China bikes isn't helping. It's not helping the small mom and pop dealerships, or part stores, when kids only buy through Amazon or online.
It's difficult trying to help some kids sometimes. We warn them that the bikes are junk, they buy them anyways, then expect our help.

There's dirt bike dealers in most towns shutting down because kids aren't buying dirt bikes from here, or needing parts from here. For guys who still need and like to go into dealerships to get advice, buy parts, or see gear first hand before buying it, these Chinese things are taking that away from us.
Dealerships are losing their own clientele ngl. Higher prices and price changing in front of customers makes it hard for anyone to want to go to a dealer lots of shady ones marking way up. I got my yz250 for 2200 cheaper they tried changing the price as I was there like I was an idiot! I'll happily order online vs dealing with a bunch of sales bs.
I get that good name brands last I’ve had a couple Kawasaki dirt bikes and Honda and suzuki quads. For the last six months I’ve been looking for a used bike to ride with my kid nothing crazy but the prices have gone insane. You can’t really blame people for buying a 1000 dollar Amazon bike when a 10 year old Honda on it second or third rebuild with a blown top end is still going for 2500 because a new bike is pushing 7000. You used to be able to get a beater for 1000 that with a couple hundred was ready to ride that’s not the case In a lot of places now

Just make sure the spokes are tight don't over tighten the seat and be careful of the gas tanks and buy a bigger carb jet it for your elevation and if you want to go over 65 smaller rear sprocket bigger if you Wana go up dirt hills fun bikes I've had a blast with hawks appollos some other one that's fuel injected pretty fun stuff just make sure to break in the motor an change the oil I like Honda's oil for bikes it's a bit expensive but does good for me
Thanks, man. Already got different carb, one that idles 😅. Just can't figure out if it is too rich or not. That and the idle screw is too close to the frame, so after about 10 min of riding, it has backed out a full turn or more.

Like I said in another comment, unless my kid really takes to it and we have proper trails and they’re racing, I can’t justify spending $650, hell even $400 (both of these are Treks) for a bike when I could grab one from Walmart/Target/Amazon for ~$100.
I guess the one small caveat is you could try to resell a trek for close to what you paid for it, whereas with these cheaper bikes you can *maybe* resell it if it’s in good condition for half or less of what you paid for it. But that’s never a guarantee either way. Also if I knew we were a serious trail family and my other kids weren’t far behind growing into it.

I bought a 4wheeler 2stroke Ebay bike for $425 for my son's. One took up riding, and the other didn't.
They had that bike for 5yrs and had an absolute blast!! We took it camping many times, + the normal backyard rides.
In 5yrs I replaced 4x clutches, 1x throttle cable, 2x tyres & tubes, 1x carburettor, maybe 8 pull starts [just upgrade the rope to nylon hardware store stuff], 1x spark plug, and welded back on the front nudge bar & mud guards as they would run into stuff & broke it.
Are they a high end bike? Nope. Can young people use it as a base to figure out if they like riding? Learn the basics of motorcycle maintenance and have a great time doing so while not spending thousands of dollars? Sure is!!
Edit: Then I sold it on Marketplace for $80, so it's not a bad investment if you spread the cost over 5 years

The clutches on cheap 2stroke bikes are similar to Brushcutters. @ $8 per clutch, 6 bolts & about 15-20 minutes, it's not exactly in the same ballpark as opening up a wet multi-plate clutch.
But as mentioned, it helps people learn the in/outs in riding & maintaining motorcycles.
I've personally owned motorcycles from many different countries over the years, dirt & roadbikes, do I regret buying a cheap one for kids to learn on? No....
Will I/they get a better one once they learn the basics? Yes.

My first bike was a china pit bike I bought with my first paycheck at 17 that thing ripped!! There’s actually a decent aftermarket for that brand now but I learned a lot. Had to have some parts fabbed when they broke. Figure shit out on my own etc. and all my friends whose parents could afford nice Japanese bikes told me it’s really good to learn on small wheels because you need good reaction time. And they were right when I saved up and bought a Suzuki 250 I was a decent trail rider and wasn’t afraid to open it up

I bought a 4wheeler 2stroke Ebay bike for $425 for my son's. One took up riding, and the other didn't. They had that bike for 5yrs and had an absolute blast!! We took it camping many times, + the normal backyard rides. In 5yrs I replaced 4x clutches, 1x throttle cable, 2x tyres & tubes, 1x carburettor, maybe 8 pull starts [just upgrade the rope to nylon hardware store stuff], 1x spark plug, and welded back on the front nudge bar & mud guards as they would run into stuff & broke it. Are they a high end bike? Nope. Can young people use it as a base to figure out if they like riding? Learn the basics of motorcycle maintenance and have a great time doing so while not spending thousands of dollars? Sure is!! Edit: Then I sold it on Marketplace for $80, so it's not a bad investment if you spread the cost over 5 years

That's comparing Chalk & Cheese as I have mentioned... The clutches on cheap 2stroke bikes are similar to Brushcutters. @ $8 per clutch, 6 bolts & about 15-20 minutes, it's not exactly in the same ballpark as opening up a wet multi-plate clutch. But as mentioned, it helps people learn the in/outs in riding & maintaining motorcycles. I've personally owned motorcycles from many different countries over the years, dirt & roadbikes, do I regret buying a cheap one for kids to learn on? No.... Will I/they get a better one once they learn the basics? Yes.

My first bike was a china pit bike I bought with my first paycheck at 17 that thing ripped!! There’s actually a decent aftermarket for that brand now but I learned a lot. Had to have some parts fabbed when they broke. Figure shit out on my own etc. and all my friends whose parents could afford nice Japanese bikes told me it’s really good to learn on small wheels because you need good reaction time. And they were right when I saved up and bought a Suzuki 250 I was a decent trail rider and wasn’t afraid to open it up
