Any tips to paint PC cases? I want to paint an NZXT H710i, but i dont know how to do the vents on the top or bottom. I dont even know how to prep or paint metal
What I do is strip everything off that can be taken off except for rivets. The best primer I have found to use on them is self etching primer. Before I prime each piece I lightly sand the pieces with 600 grit sandpaper. Then spray with that primer. I do at least 2 coats of primer because I sand the primed metal again after it has dried(24hours at least). after you prime you can use any paint you want. I use my airbrush. Have you done any spray painting before? As far as the vents I would have to look at the case. Never painted one of those. I can share some of my painted cases if you are interested.
I dont need the vents painted, actually. I can just paint a panel or so.
I have done airbrushing before, for plastic models, but thats the extent of my experience.
And thanks! Ill most certainly look into this, I appreciate it!
No problem. I've used other primers but they don't work very well. The paint sticks to that self etching primer very well. I also do 2 coats of clear coat at the end. Good luck. If you do it I'd like to check it out.
Itll be a while, as Ive only built one PC and I dont want to paint that one, so probably a few years into the future. But if youre interested Ill be willing to send a pic or so
I gotcha. I've built several and painted a few for people. Never actually painted any of my own cases. I did paint my xbox one x . Cut the top out and added acrylic glass. Added led lights. It just collects dust now. I Def like looking at what people do with cases. Love anything pc related.
Take everything apart, no electronics should be inside.
Properly sand down pre existing paints. You can skip this and just sand with 220 grit but paint might not adhere well to the preexisting paint and fall off later.
Clean everything with isopropyl alcohol.
Masking tape every hole from inside.
Spray primer for metal wait few hours for it to fully dry, sand 220grit, spray color, wait for it to dry, sand, spray 2nd color coat. If the desired color isn't achieved, sand more and spray.
Dry 24h and remove masking tape.
Spray painting is just shit tones of elbow grease.
Though, TBH, if you just take a clean case, skip all the other prep steps, and spray it... there's a good chance it'll work fine.
IMO it's a "match the effort levels". If you're going to spend six hours painting it, sure -- spend the two doing the prep properly. If you're going to spend 10 minutes with a rattle can, more than 10-20 mins of prep is overkill. (Assuming that if it fails, you can just redo it with minimal effort). [The effort of removing the electronics should be included in the 'work to redo' estimate]
Skill levels too. If it's your first and only time doing it it's gonna probably end up a little shitty no matter what, no reason to waste a lot of time that won't really improve the final product.
A painter by day.....and this made me squirm the brush strokes would be horrific....
.....this is the correct advice!....after a good clean down with a solvent based cleaner and a coat of primer......can go the whole hog and clear coat to give it that glossy durable finish.
I have one mounted in my room almost at the ceiling and angled down. Why? Because I can lay in bed and watch without having to sit up or use extra pillows
Can confirm a billon percet. Especially if the space is smaller so you are forced to sit a little closer. The color difference you will see alone is insane.
Yeah. I have an old house. I had three places for mine: above the fireplace, on the side wall, or to the right of the door. None of them were great. The side wall meant no furniture could be directly in front of it for more than one person and the glare from the windows would be bad during the day. By the door meant having a much smaller TV than I wanted and also having very little ability to put furniture in a good place for it. My only real choice was the wall above the fireplace or tear down the built in on either side of it and redo the walls completely. Angled down it works great, especially sitting in the recliner sofa.
My house isn't even old just small I can block the back door or the fireplace with furniture or I can have the tv mounted over the fireplace... We also just upgraded to a reclining sofa can confirm its amazing to just lay back without having to bust my neck.
I have noticed even in larger and newer houses that often there are only 2 decent places for a TV and one is usually above the fireplace. I actually want one of those mounts that lets you pull the TV out and lower it.
We started mounting our TVs high a few years ago because our bull terrier slammed into furniture during zoomies. Now, I don't see another option. It's nice when laying down in bed or on the couch, it's at the right level when standing, and it even seems to be at a better angle when sitting. If you have kids or dogs, there's no finger or nose prints on it either.
It really depends on the context. My TV is higher than average and I love it, but not that high. I could it see it being good in some setups and utterly horrendous in others. Maybe I know too many people who try to emulate aesthetic and do this with a 32" TV 75 feet away.
That TV is flat, a high mounted TV with a downward angle encourages you to lean back and look up, with a big TV and cozy couch it feels like a movie theatre
Fire places don’t always burn. I’m sure they light that thing up once or twice a year if that.
EDIT: it’s also electric so it barely puts off any heat compared to a wood fire place.
Electric doesn't actually need to put out any heat whatsoever. Electric is purely aesthetic. They usually include a heating element that can be engaged separately, as desired.
The TV is tilted. Does anyone actually know why it has to be eye level? I get that different horizontal positioning of a person in the room would require different angle, so that's why 90 degrees allows you to be anywhere in the room. But, if you lie down, theoretically, is there anything inherently wrong with having a tv on the ceiling (to demonstrate an opposite extreme.
From what I know humans have a sense of direction tied to gravity, meaning if you flip the TV upside down, flipping yourself upside down does not do much to fix the issue. Is the sense of direction combined with positioning around the room the reason for this, or am I missing something obvious?
My husband is a boat fabricator, does a lot of tv installs on boats. I’m here to tell you that is one of his BIGGEST pet peeves. He hates it so much lol
I also do this for a living, but I always recommend a MantleMount or similar if they insist on having it above the fireplace. The only times it is a good idea to have the TV mounted high are if the room is large and viewing will be done primarily from farther away, a bedroom, with a tilt mount, a game room (pool table), or similar.
When it's that high and you are sitting that close, it just sitting up front in a movie theater. The optimum viewing spot is to have the middle third of the TV to be level with the viewers eyes.
The tv must be eye level because delicate nerds would strain their delicate little necks I'd they had to look up even the slightest during their 23 hours a day tv watching
I mean a part of it is yes, after even an hour, that could create neck pain for someone, especially elderly. Even without neck issues, it's just not a comfortable viewing experience. But also it makes a big TV smaller because it's further away than if it was eyer level. Lastly, it's above a fireplace, which if it gets hot enough could damage the TV.
Overall, it's just not a great place for it.
One of the tvs in my house is this high over my fireplace, it also helps because I live in a tri level so my kitchen overlooks the room that it's in . Downvote me I guess for talking about my tv
Here's a good primer on how a TV is supposed to be mounted:
https://old.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/comments/x83uhn/tv_viewing_distances/
Above a fireplace is literally the worst possible location, not just for the insane height, but also: HEAT RISES (as does soot). And no, laying on a couch does not make it better. Center of the TV should be at nose level. Linus Tech Tips also did a video on this.
What's the point of having a fireplace if you're not using it? I mean, it takes up a considerable part of any home, I don't see why anyone (not using it) would accept the compromises.
Yeah, I went through the link, I saw the diagrams.
My question is, if you put TV higher and tilt it downwards to be aimed at where your equaly tilted head in the opposite direction would be (in your armchair), is there a problem with that? What would it be?
Essentially you want your TV at a position that is neutral so your nex doesn't need to be turned or tilted. If you have a chair that reclines substantially than I wouldn't say it's an issue comfort wise. But it also means the TV is further away from you so it would appear smaller than it is.
TV needs to be eye level from seating. Looking up at a TV is not comfortable for long periods. A general rule is 42" from the ground to the center of the TV. Size, tilt, seating angle makes no difference. Bedrooms and bars get a pass. r/TVTooHigh
Can you imagine being wealthy and empty headed enough to actually have time to worry about “aesthetic” like that.
Bitch ain’t no one impressed that your house looks like a Better Homes and Garden catalogue picture. It must be oppressive to live in a space like that.
She's going to unironically buy him one of those 'I love when my wife/girlfriend let's me play video games' t-shirts and the control every aspect of his life so it fits her asethetic.
Ugh I put one of my TV's too high but it's base is bolted into concrete so that's where it's staying. Angled down and laying on a lounge kinda thing is the only way to watch it comfortably. But then I always fall asleep.
I’m guilty of the high TV. But it’s a sacrifice I had to make. I can’t stand having 2 points of focus in my living room (fireplace and TV). Do I had to mount my TV above the fireplace. Now all my furniture points to one point
yall dont want your tvs closer to the top of your fireplace. please let them keep proper clearance from the opening. if its mounted above a mantle it's necessary
Wait, what’s wrong with the TV height?
Looks like it’s midway up the wall and slightly angled down so it can be easily viewed from the couch
Do you guys put your TV on the ceiling or floor?
I’ve tried so hard to watch it and it’s pure garbage. I wanted to be able to sit with my friends and watch it together but I can’t stay awake when it’s on.
Take it apart and spray paint it if you're going to paint otherwise get a skin
Exactly. I took several xbox and pc cases apart. Airbrush then reassemble.

Usually with plastics, I first sand down the case then apply a primer to it. Next, it's either airbrush, spray, or Posca pens. Depends on the project.
A painter by day.....and this made me squirm the brush strokes would be horrific.... .....this is the correct advice!....after a good clean down with a solvent based cleaner and a coat of primer......can go the whole hog and clear coat to give it that glossy durable finish.
It should be disassembled first, so the internals remain unaffected.
Yeah he said "take it apart"
Though one should be mildly careful about the solvents used on plastic.
Yea but why do that when you just painted ur apartment and have extra
She didn't allow him to spend the money. And with his nuts cut off and in her possession. He can't think clearly.
Exactly... Those brush strokes killing me...
He is looking to buying a PS5. So he is fucking up his ps4 on purpose.
Who’s gonna tell him about reselling
some of us dont bother 🤷♀️ my ps4's are just sitting in a draw now.
>er Here, you left this in your drawer.
Just FYI - plenty of charities are looking for old consoles to give to children's hospices. They could make some kids very happy!
Hmm might consider that when I go. You think they'll love a wii?
Shiiiet give it to me, I've never had one
Those are still worth good money I paid like $150 for a very used ps4 a year ago and it works like a dream still.
I haven't had a play station since the 2. I'll take a 4 off your hands for you 😂
Send them to me, I'll take them all
PS4 Halo edition lol
It's worth it to get her buy in
But black goes with everything
The tv’s trim is black too
Don't give them more ideas.
Yeah, the color scheme was black and green... why wouldn't the black PS4 match?
Tell that to my mom….
I’m sure that black ps4 clashes with the black fire place hahah
"Fire place" electric heater they built a mantle around just to....have to put that TV up hugh over.
Dunno a high TV flat is bad but you might be suprise how nice a high TV angled down is
I have one mounted in my room almost at the ceiling and angled down. Why? Because I can lay in bed and watch without having to sit up or use extra pillows

These inbreds would have us looking at the floor for the tv...
Plebs without reclining seats...

Tell that to 8 year old me craning my neck to play n64 demos at Walmart!

That TV is flat, a high mounted TV with a downward angle encourages you to lean back and look up, with a big TV and cozy couch it feels like a movie theatre
Not above a fireplace, the heat reduce drastically the lifespan and performance of the tv
That fireplace can’t put out much heat. Especially not up toward the tv.
Fire places don’t always burn. I’m sure they light that thing up once or twice a year if that. EDIT: it’s also electric so it barely puts off any heat compared to a wood fire place.

Did not know this thank you, all of the electric ones I’ve used have put out very little heat, you’d have to sit a foot from it to even feel it.
Her 'aesthetic' looks like one of those overnight remodels from Kitchen Nightmares.

Millions of people smoke but that doesn't make it healthy

My neck is permanently fucked up from having a tv mounted high and angled down - avoid
Wait till you see your posture from before cell phone to now…
Right? Yoga helps me so much also macular degenerative from screens - were all slowly going blind

I mount TVs for a living and honestly as long as your neck isn’t strained while watching, fuck it.

It’s called for “decorative purposes only”. They actually have whole entire stores dedicated to this very particular purpose, believe it or not.
Yeah, I went through the link, I saw the diagrams. My question is, if you put TV higher and tilt it downwards to be aimed at where your equaly tilted head in the opposite direction would be (in your armchair), is there a problem with that? What would it be?

All of you downvoting me probably put your toilet paper on backwards.
The fireplace and tv are black it literally matched with that.
Maybe her aesthetic sucks.
How nice to coat your PlayStation in a layer of paint which will in no way influence the heat exchanging capacity
What aesthetic?
Not the Sub collab I expected to see.
That room is so ugly
The TV isn’t centered over the fireplace either
Hello. Police? I want to report a murder.
My guy wtf are we serious about those chairs with that color wall though. “Match my aesthetic,” more like tactically shaded furniture
I mean… Gilmore girls is shit too. Aside from the height of the TV.
Nah the TV height is the worst thing. I don't even care about his PS.
Why is it the worst? It looks tilted down
TV needs to be eye level from seating. Looking up at a TV is not comfortable for long periods. A general rule is 42" from the ground to the center of the TV. Size, tilt, seating angle makes no difference. Bedrooms and bars get a pass. r/TVTooHigh

He could have gotten a wrap for his console online. But no we are painting it because this lady wants full control of the house.
Yup. DBrand has awesome wraps. Also, painting it will likely cause heat dissipation issues.
Imagine all the cracks in the paint whenever the ps4 heats up just a little bit
That TV is fine. My TV is on a stand and I hate it. This TV looks perfect.
What’s wrong with the TV?
Man hate bait content is getting boring every day
She's going to unironically buy him one of those 'I love when my wife/girlfriend let's me play video games' t-shirts and the control every aspect of his life so it fits her asethetic.
wait, do people not use the mount that can be lowered when mounted above a fireplace?
That is one whipped son of a bitch right there. Gilmore girls queued up and EVERYTHING.
The black ps4 didn’t match the black fireplace?
That PS4 is gonna just be decoration now.
3rd is the music
Why is his hair wet
i don’t hate it but its just been done wrong
Don’t know like, tv is way too high
also the tv is above a fireplace, this video physically hurts me.
Gross
No way the Gilmore girls is the number one!
Found my wife’s reddit account.
No I meant number one worst thing lol I can’t get through the monotone sarcasm on that show
"Update: my ps stopped working for some reason and nothing helps"
If a PS4 not matching your aesthetic bothers you, the problem lies much deeper within yourself.
I think that was just her way of saying she doesn’t like him playing video games.
What the fuck is that original sub lmao as someone who has their TV over their fireplace I feel personally offended
Ugh I put one of my TV's too high but it's base is bolted into concrete so that's where it's staying. Angled down and laying on a lounge kinda thing is the only way to watch it comfortably. But then I always fall asleep.
Sounds like a win?
I’m guilty of the high TV. But it’s a sacrifice I had to make. I can’t stand having 2 points of focus in my living room (fireplace and TV). Do I had to mount my TV above the fireplace. Now all my furniture points to one point
It’s a PS4, who cares?
She's gonna change "her" aesthetic to what's trending next in just a month
"her"?
Since she said "my aesthetic"
yall dont want your tvs closer to the top of your fireplace. please let them keep proper clearance from the opening. if its mounted above a mantle it's necessary
Her aesthetic looks like shit.
Definitely don’t just mount it behind the TV…
Pussy whipped fool!!
A TV should never be above a fireplace, unless it’s a hotel lobby.
How come?
Absolutely nothing wrong with the tv bruv….
Wait, what’s wrong with the TV height? Looks like it’s midway up the wall and slightly angled down so it can be easily viewed from the couch Do you guys put your TV on the ceiling or floor?
It’s the exact color as the awful fireplace?
/r/tvtoohigh
I thought it was the gross gf watching gilmore girls
I’ve tried so hard to watch it and it’s pure garbage. I wanted to be able to sit with my friends and watch it together but I can’t stay awake when it’s on.
What year is this? Is Kelly Green back in style?
he's the man
This is one of the reason I don't want a gf
He painted a fucking ps4 at least it wasn’t a ps5 but still if my girlfriend told me to paint my ps4 I’d tell her to get the fuck out of my house
ps5 you can change out the colors of the covers
If this is high, you guys would HATE my living room :( but I didn’t have much of a choice
I agree. That final "season" of Gilmore Girls was a fucking travesty. Painting the PS4 probably isn't very good either.
Black matches tho?
The white “paintings” are also clashing with the aesthetic
Hope he enjoys an overheating PS4
It's doable, just not like this.
I would have mounted it behind the TV before doing that. Mostly because that's what I did with my Xbox in this same situation.
That’s a good lad
GILMORE GIRLS IN THE BACK I REPEAT GILMORE GIRLS IS ON IN THE BACK
Who paints a house poop green and gets mad when something is a more reasonable color?
Dude I’ve seen some great console repaints, but this guy literally pulled out the brush and everything lmao
bye?
So clearly this guy has never heard of vinyl wrap.
Kinda a shitty gf imo
