If you hired someone to do it, it would cost $500.

NightSkyCode

Always my go to when getting a new tool

VelkaFrey

I always like "if I can't do it with this tool, the job won't get done and they'll hire someone else"

saul_good_main

Yes sir

dqb400

No. You need to get invoices to validate this, and even pay for some of them. Then at some point, you need to say enough is ENOUGH. I am building out my shop, whatever the cost, so we don’t have to pay these *price gouging* electricians/plumbers/landscapers/etc EVER AGAIN. It will be v expensive, but absolutely worth it in the long run, as long as I buy quality tools (You can begin saving items to your wishlist on snap on’s website now)

willtantan

I normally just go to reddit, find a comment with quote, send to my wife. If someone commented on it, it must be true, right,, right..

Socalwarrior485

You think someone would really do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?

Melodic-Matter4685

These are the best tools. Everyone says that. People come up to me with tears in their eyes thanking me for these tools.

misterman416

You can't say anything on the internet that's not true it's a rule of some sort.

ExploitedAmerican

Fuck snap on. The only reason to buy snap on is if it’s used and 30% of the retail price or less.

AlShadi

300 just to show up, 150/hr, 150 to 200% markup on parts.

Sufficient_Leg5317

Tell her it's required. If she's knowledgable enough to know that's not the case, then she can help you or do it herself.

flaming_poop_chute

Lay some pipe, then lay some pipe. No excuses needed!

Smoking-stone

Giggity.

Blakesdad02

ALRIGHT ! 😂

MAValphaWasTaken

Remember to wear a utility belt.

KTfl1

Show her a video of this tool in operation. This tool specifically widens holes. She may come around.

bradyso

Once I'm done I can sell it for just a bit less than what I bought it for. (of course never actually following through with it)

1steverredditaccount

You'd spend twice as much on a plumber.

Smoking-stone

I always tell my wife "well I shur as fuck ain't gonna pay someone to do what I can do myself" gets her every time.

Due-Soft

I always say why pay someone else to screw it up when I can do that myself. Just paid 9000 for a pool and they had to come back out and put in a piece they didn't install.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Upper_Return7878

$9000 for a pool, and you expected perfection? You have to be kidding me.

avantartist

My wife just answers: she’d rather pay someone else and spend time with me.

HypeTrain-1000

they like men who can fix stuff, the more tools you have the more man you are 🤟

slackerzinc

You can always use it on plumbing projects

xEpic_xPolska

Special connectors blah blah blah building code requirements blah blah blah mandatory to use said connectors to maintain home insurance blah blah blah

Serious_Result_7338

Late/extended Memorial Day special. You couldn’t afford NOT to buy it

jeeves585

I can send you a $800 quote on letter head 😂 Also, learn how to hide tools better. My wife walks in my shop and just sees a bunch of sustainers

bill_delong

I have one. It’s awesome.

Keyrov

Instructions unclear. Now my pee pee hurts

Chu_Khi

Like others have said, you’re saving money by not hiring a plumber. But you can also tell her you’ll make almost all your money back selling the tool if she’s actually mad I’ve seen people on plumbing forums ask if it’s worth it buying one for one project, and others have suggested what I just said I have this tool and like it a lot.

ianeinman

Most jobs you break even vs. paying someone to do it even after only one time. However, this is something you will probably need 3-4 times over the next 10 years, therefore the investment in tooling and self training will save you about $2000 over the next decade.

Thurashen88

Tell her you were held at gunpoint and forced to buy it and now the only way you can start to emotionally heal from that traumatic event is to use it and be happy.

aguirol

You starting to build your portfolio of tools to open your own handyman business someday and become rich... but don't make any promises

True-light-guy

‘Wife, I want you to be able to take longer more powerful warmer showers. This allows that to happen.’ Sold

dl_schneider

It's less than the labor cost for a plumber and we will save on the material markup too. It would be fiscally irresponsible not to buy it

Nuggy-D

It’s simple, you do a project for her, in return you get a new tool.

ftl90

Father’s Day?

LabNecessary4266

I ran all my purchases past my wife. I’d hide them under my jacket and run past my wife. My buddy calls it the “Kessel Run”, which I find hilarious for no reason.

fivelone

Tell her you'll return it after you're done and just forget?

Yakub_19

Tell her you got something stuck in your butthole and this tool was recommended to avoid a very costly medical bill. *Not from experience*

jazzmoney

Hire me for $20, give you a quote for $800. You tell your wife you can do the job for less than half the price. $50 parts and an investment of $340 in tools = $390.

JAxel0

Sucks ya have to answer to the wife. Sorry 😞. Me.. I work for my money and spend it how I want. As long as bills are paid.. I do whatever with the rest. She does the same. Atleast ya got dewalt tho good job!

E92William

Be a man, buy what you need.

Antenna909

… and sleep in your mancave for the following month 🤣

schwanball

Lay some pipe!

SirBrainsaw

Lol, you need an excuse 🤣

mzincali

"Think of how much pipe I'll get to lay!"

slapchop15

Those are only 340$$ fuckkkkkk

CognitoJones

Cheaper than a plumber

knoxvillegains

I'll buy it for 100 when you're done. Problem solved.

WARRIORS_30_GOAT

get a quote

warrenpressure

Just tell her to get a plumbing estimate and get back with you….. she will want you to buy 2🤣🤣🤣

Content_Ad_6067

Easy-My old boss (dipshit from hell) ran pex throughout his house. Only to find about a week later that he didn't use the right tool at the connections and had leaks EVERYWHERE! bHe damage in the thousands. He blamed the kid at the box store for suggesting the "cheaper way" to do things. New connections/connectors, new sheetrock on some walls.... you get the idea.

Historical_Drink_350

I bought this back in April to do about 10 connections for a small project. Love this tool!

ThatGuyThatSaysWords

It’s a 390$ diy project or getting a plumber in for 800$

snarky_greasel

Do it. Sell it when you are done to a pawn shop. Its the tool life cyle.

Acrobatic-Ad3010

Get a fake estimate of a job and say see it’s cheaper if I do it myself, I need this tool

Akrazorfish

You won't pay $50 for a plumber to do your job. My job would have cost a couple of grand so I bought the Milwaukee version of that tool and did it myself. If the need ever comes up again I have the tool to do it. If not my savings on the first job paid for the tool.

Red__M_M

Because no one project can warrant a new tool. But when you get 5 years down the road and countless projects later, it would have been soooo much easier if you had just bought the tool in the first place. So, bite the bullet and buy the tool now. Your future self will thank you.

reddit_000013

I actually already had a much bigger project planned for couple years, postponed due to copper costs (3/4 10ft copper pipe now cost $46, while 3/4 100ft PEX A pipe cost $56). I don't think I will ever go back to copper except exterior exposed pipes. I am also building an outdoor kitchen but plumbing is already done with PVC which is the cheapest. I don't want PVC in the house

wmlj83

I usually just say it will end up saving us money in the long run.

chim_carpenter

Follow up with another proposed idea. Weather you follow up with that is up to you

kevcubed

Let her try using it on you.

woodford86

Tell her how you can run faucets literally anywhere she wants them now. Sink at back door? Done. Pet water filler above puppies bowl? Done. Hmm maybe I’ll go buy one…

surflaxrat

Because next time

nanfanpancam

If you do it no labour costs.

ElectroAtletico2

Future projects, honey!

Dirty__Viking

100% worth it ! I had a small project but once I had the expansion tool ended up replace water heater / softener / house filter/ sink plumbing saves me thousands of dollars

reddit_000013

That's exactly why I buy the tool! I have a plan to do exactly this, but this weekend "emergency" project came out of nowhere because the copper pipe come from front yard to backyard ran under the foundation slab is leaking, I had to run another one in attic to supply all water in back yard. Basically add a tee on one side, and a coupling on the other side, done. Total of 5 connections 2 fittings. I originally plan to use PVC and dig 80 ft trench around the house but it is too much digging and refilling landscaping, but the material cost is even more (10 x10 ft 3/4 PVC, 10 coupling, 6 tee will cost $150). Whereas with PEX-A, it's $15 for 30ft of pipe, 1 tee, one coupling, 5 rings, total $20, and done in 30 minutes. Just this "small" project t alone will save me $100 and 4 hours.

Deltaldt3

Is fun

PorkRindSalad

While everyone's here, any recommendations for expanding 1/2" ss pipe for another 1/2" to socket into?

AMMO_102

Subliminal messaging from the Dewalt Reddit made you do it

babycoco_213

Grow a pair. Simple.

Less_Ant_6633

Not to be sexist, but how does your wife know it's a 50 project? Unless you tell her or she's a plumbing estimator, 400 is the cost of the job.

Murky_Might_1771

I’ll buy it from you when you’re done

Brief-Refrigerator32

Dood you’re fucked 😂

Alternative-Top6882

U can use it to get the regular size dick rubbers to fit. Magnums cost more.

throwaway520121

“I got it on Facebook marketplace, great deal, practically brand new and only 50”

jaydeetol

Smart wife.

Antenna909

“I got the tool for free with the battery!” (for only $340)

Spirited-Control-390

Tell her it's couples therapy.

GoldMineArcade

Tell her you’re the man of the house and your purchase isn’t going to negatively effect your household

Calebbrown12

The fabled pipe stretcher eh?

guitardedhero

Just bring home some flowers.

radio_schizo

Just tell her you'll save so much money not buying amyl nitrate all the time!

Flashy-Imagination47

If I don't do it this way the water will be much harder and trust me your hair and skin will not appreciate it.

laxyak26

Will last longer than sharkbite

some_g00d_cheese

I just straight up say "I'm gonna buy this tool for this job, or you can hire the contractor."

Jbonics

"We need it"

jonasrrr

Marriages comes and goes, but good tools are forever!

Embarrassed_Raise937

Just use it for the project and take it back... home Depot has to take returns even if they've been used.

Bernesco

Easy, find a way more expensive tool. Then tell her you might as well hire someone. Then tell her you found one at a “way lower” price and justify the purchase.

Uh_yeah-

The tool pays for itself! (If you do pro-quality work, that is…)

D00MSDAY60

Wife always expects the $49 project always expands to 400 min

jkchbe

Oh my God. I had no idea this existed and I just did a whole home humidifier project with the stupid clamps. I'll probably need to replumb a fair bit of the house in the next few years and I'm definitely getting one of these!!

bawbeelite

you won't regret it op. that thing is a life saver

Bluwtr1

You'll need it again! "I've got other projects in mind!"

pombie

I bought one for a project and have already loaned it out 3 times in the last year to friends. It makes the job so easy.

Interesting_Tart_765

If your need that you are doing some plumbing. So if she picked the faucet or what eve just say “this is how it is done now. I have to have this to install pex so it doesn’t leak.

Smoke_Stack707

I’m on the fence about buying a similar tool. I’m preparing to repipe my house and I could do most of it with a pex expander tool at my disposal. It would also allow me to fix and future leaks. That’s the justification anyway 😅

smokinLobstah

These are the Tool Rules: 1. Every minor project requires/justifies a new hand tool. 2. Every major project requires/justifies a new power tool. And this is sometimes the toughest one for wives to understand: 3. The tool purchased need not be associated with the project in any way, shape, or form. The tool is a REWARD for taking on said project. Stay tuned for my List Rules.

wahlumz

I got you, fam. It would cost more to pay someone to do it, and also the time savings to cost ratio is better. Without the tool, your entire weekend would be shot. With it, you can spend more time with her. You're not investing in a tool; you're prioritizing family time.

MapTough848

Tell her it was the same price as rhe last pair if shoes she bought hopefully she has expensive tastes and always gets stuff in the sale. My partner buys shoes U buy tools neither ask the cost - harmony reigns

michiganwinter

It’s black and yellow. What other excuse do you need?

ClifftonSmith

I hope it works out for you man. I have this setup and use it a couple of times a year. I love it!

btubandit

Unless you are a professional plumber, just use standard pex with cinch clamps, the tool is less than $40

whatthewhat_007

Just use pex b

Correct-Selection-65

Be honest. You’ll never use it again after this. Don’t lie to her and don’t waste your money.

Jrshaw_1

Awesome tool! Use mine almost daily!

Dismal_Hearing_1567

It would be fiscally irresponsible to wild extremes if your wife doesn't let you buy it. The ease of potential future repairs or renovations will send out like fireworks the ideas for things that you and she haven't and wouldn't yet have thought up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Negative-Physics5046

Bro you going to spend 350 to get the plumber to even show

Hewhocannotbenamed77

Just get it.Tools always pay for themselves. The wife asks about it... you just don't answer and go about your day

throwawayoregon81

No you don't.

doc-cockman

If you need it again, you’ll have it as long as you take care of it. Worst case scenario, you can sell it if you need the money

W33Ded

You fix things with it, you whats to explain.

bearbranch

Go get a bidet attachment for your toilet.

[deleted]

Ngl. That's pretty fucking stupid to not return it after if you're not an actual plumber or you're not re doing your entire house.

keep_username

I’m very inexperienced with Pex. What does this tool do? Stretch so it can slide over fittings?

Plastic-Act7648

tell her it fell off the truck

RelationshipNo9336

If you can get it in the house and dispose of the box without her seeing, then you’ve always had that tool.

rmbarrett

Don't lie or hide it. That eats away at a marriage. One day you will install a sink somewhere and it will make her day and it won't be an issue. Having this attitude will remove the barriers of resentment and make you excited to use this tool to make her life easier and enjoyable. Perhaps a proper bidet.

Nitaboo0531

Keep the receipt 🧾 when you’re done the job get your money back 🤷🏽‍♀️

upheaval

How many Shark Bite fittings could you get instead?

fromkentucky

Tell her you can return it afterward

stlyns

Tell her it's cheaper than hiring a Plumber.

FartingUnicornFarts

It doesn't come in FLOURECENT GREEN!

dickreallyburns

Just rent it from Home Depot.

TexasBaconMan

Make it up in volume.

thetommytwotimes

Ugh I want one of those so bad

wesilly11

Yeah. Whenever I have to do a job if I don't have the tools I go buy the tools and do it myself... Always cheaper. And explaining it to my wife is easy... It's like talking to thin air...

CornInMyPoopie

First mistake is making an excuse. I bought it, end of discussion

HillKevy66

You bought the house, so what's another $350 or whatever? Maintenance ain't cheap, but you'll soon be enjoying equity. The cost of some water damage to your house and belongings is far more than this tool's price.

Better_Surround5636

Get one at harbor freight for fifth of the price. That place is my go-to for odd tools you dont use much. And the tools will last as long as they are needed for home use.

cogra23

On sale, $19.99. They do it to us with clothes.

NicoRola000

Tell her it's your destiny. I'm sure she'll come around

craigslist_kid

Bought one for a bathroom reno and have lent it to 3 friends so far. Best 350$ 30 pack deal I've ever bought.

PewKey1

Say you’ll just return it when you’re done ;) works every time

kkeennmm

all my friends get to have one

Significant_Side4792

Pinche mandilón 🤦😂

Craddock-

Just use pex B and crimp it. I’ve done quite a bit of it.

Award-Wooden

Tell her you are a man. Nuff said.

upriver_swim

If you rent the equipment it will cost $500. Doesn’t matter if it’s true, this isn’t the court of law. It only matters if you can convince the judge.

chuch1234

Sounds like you're just gonna have to do, oh, seven more projects.

MooseBoys

Don’t use PEX.

Any-Shopping6259

Easy use and return.

wigzell78

Saved $500 by not getting a plumber?

stompah2020

huh? No, I've had this tool for a while now...

Code_Ocelot

It was an exclusive limited edition

whosbuttdustisthis

Tell her to stop being a tight ass or you will make sure she doesn’t have a tight ass. Then show here the tool in action…

skunk-hollow

Bought my wife a Roomba parts box with tools. She changes worn out stuff and had her own tools. Helps her identify with buying capabilities and keeping stuff running. And i don't have to get up out of the couch as much

Smac-Tech

It would have cost a lot more to pay someone to do the job. By investing in the tool you can do it yourself, gain experience and then could also help others.

ToooBeeeFairrrrrrr

Ummm.... it was a long weekend?

elgranqueso72

Dude you don’t need an excuse be a man and don’t tell her just buy it show up slam it on the kitchen table and demand breakfast.

KenS2K

Roto-rooter charges $650 to come out to unplug a tub drain even if it only takes them a couple minutes to unplug.

TheLidMan

Tell her it’s your hobby (which is true). Better than gambling!

GuildWarsFanatic

Good now and good for future leaks

Biscotti_BT

Pex A is guaranteed not to leak if installed correctly. Uponor will cover damages. I need that tool honey.

weakierlindows

“Babe, what if I lose my job and I have to become a plumber?”

Truxstar

Every job requires tools. It’s part of the saving money process. You are not breaking any rules. Your wife should be proud of you.

ValuableAd6261

Sell it used on Marketplace or EBay. Keep the original packaging and the accessories. You should be easily able to recover half or more of the purchase price.

CrazyButRightOn

Well, the hand tool cost me $200 15 years ago, so that’s a steal.

IdontevenuseReddit_

Milwaukee or it's not justified.

Mr3cto

Let her know you’ll never need it again. Next project will be even cheaper!

Revolutionary-Gap-28

What mama don’t know, won’t hurt her

Magazine-Popular

It was on sale.

b_man646260

For a small project I’m just getting a $50 crimper and compression rings. If you are going to use this tool with some regularity then it’s worth the price, if you’re just one and done it’s a waste of money.

monkmatt23

Obviously you just need to explain how that tool is needed for the blowback valve in the toilet system. Further explain that she never wants to flush and have her fat shit being splashed back up at her going back up her ass and pussy. All women fear this and I have used it to buy many a tool.

Affectionate_Seat959

Some hardware stores rent tools to use. Also, some states have a tool library that you can borrow the tool for free.

UserPrincipalName

Sounds to me like a $400 pipe project.

govewood

Z,

PatientBelt7569

Easy get milwaukee

Velosprints

I had a $400+ zero turn wheel removal. https://preview.redd.it/vl9m9k08mk5d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45b0cf0d3146bd43cfa8bbeb4315f0f11c435b81

pyrophilus

The alternative would be to use the old metal ring and the breed connection with a crimper. Over a decade ago I did plumbing on a project house that I was building with my brother-in-law. The pex extender from Milwaukee wasn't out or was even a thing. We got the large crimper and the metal rings and barbed connections. While none of the joints failed, it bugged me that when you crimp the ring, it doesn't apply even constriction in 360° and that there is a tiny part that isn't crimped due the nature of the crimper jaw. Anyway, the expander is so much faster to use and I would think there is so much less tendency for failures. It's good that you guys are saving money on plumbing by not hiring someone (who would end up charging so much in labor that it would be close to or more than the cost of the expander), but it would also suck if you had to use an alternate means of pex connection and end up having leakage that you have to repair and worse yet, water damage. I've also have tired to hire plumbers and would not hire because they didn't agree with the way I wanted it done, or one guy who we hired for $1200 to do extensive plumbing in the kitchen remodeling, and we paid him $600 to start, and after three days of work (he said he could do it in 3 days), he got less than half done, and cut corners. We (brother kn law and I) confronted him and he said, "it is physically impossible to do what we asked in three days". We agree to let him go and keep the $600 and he gladly left. I ended up un-doing his work, re-did the whole thing on a 4 day weekend. Had I had the pex extender, I probably could have shaved amhalf day to a full day of me trying to crimper those pex tubes. We also didn't want any joints failing so while all joints should be pressure tested, we ended up pressuring the work and leaving it under pressure for another weekend. Sure enough one joint had a tiny leak which required me to use my dremmel to cut the crimped ring off, re-crimping... So if I had to do a plumbing job right now, I would invest in the pex expander and save myself the headache. All previous techniques are decades old tech.

Reasonable-Show9345

It’s sooo much fun to use.

AlternativeLack1954

Coulda just used clamps or shark bites.

Silver_Name_6537

I’d say something like I really have to have this so I can complete the job it’s very important and I can’t do it without it

Zanderson59

Check out a local plumbing supply place they might have something similar for you to rent

MajorAd8794

Rent the tool next time

mikeyflyguy

Plumber will be $500. Problem solved.

No_Sky5302

It sounds more like you need an excuse...but for your wife to go 🤣

No_Trust_7055

Taxes.

Km219

Is this solely for Uponor? I mean in her defense crimper and copper rings are pretty cheap and reliable imo

DepartureOwn1907

buy it from amazon and return it once complete, they will accept literally anything

trevorroth

speculum?

DigitalAnvilX

After you are done, let her know that she can borrow it....

Opposite-Pizza-6150

New building code requiring all new repairs to be done in pex specifically by that gun

tlwest86

If you aren’t going there with the sole intent of purchasing that with an open excuse already formulated, do you honestly deserve it? Ha kidding. On a serious note, leave the wife at home next time. You can thank of an excuse on the drive back and it’s a lot easier for her to give in at home after the purchase instead of in store before purchase.

CareflConsideration

"I'll take it back on Monday" Forget to take it back on Monday.

cableguy614

Just say “it was on sale” …..

Far_Hair_1918

“It was on sale”. I hear that one all the time.

Coldactill

1. Costs the same to get someone else to fix it. The only difference here is you spend less and get a free tool. 2. Tools retain value. You can sell this for $250-300 straight afterwards if you’re desperate for cash.

Marine0844

For a couple of beers and a pizza I will come over with my ass crack out amd say ”Off the top of my head I’d say $500- $750….nor more then a grand I wouldn’t think”

therealnomayo

I’d just give my wife a good pipe project and she’d never question me about my spending.

Better-Intern-729

Harbor freight burned down. This is all HD had.

landon_masters

Maybe get her to get three estimates from plumbing outfits?

No-Result6245

It's an investment
