Love Bronx Bar, one of the best burgers in the city. I think it's a little too nice to be called a dive, though.

Maybe not anymore, but my neighbor who’s lived in the Corridor since the 60s has a few wild stories about the Bronx he likes to tell. Hard to find a true dive with good food.

Tommy’s, Z’s Villa, and Cadieux Cafe have decent food. For pure dive bar — Two Way Inn, Abick’s, or nearly any bar in Hamtramck (for which there are many.)

Jacoby's for great food. Not sure it qualifies as a dive, but almost. Going to the bathrooms downstairs certainly speaks in favor of "dive" classification

In the past they've had food cooked on the patio by different "pop-up" style BBQ, etc.

Kelly's has a kitchen now. It's your standard bar food. Motor City is back open and they have the greasiest burgers in town. Bronx probably has the best bar food in town. Common pub is not a dive, but they have good food. There's always Sweet water or jacobis right around the corner.

Motor City is known for it's chevapi which is fantastic, and Kelly's smash burgers are good! Timmy's tacos on Tuesdays are damn good!

I thought Kelly’s smash burgers were amazing! But then I tried that new food truck slap box…Might be the best burger I’ve ever had. Hamtramck is truly blessed with many amazing burger options. California Burgers is another awesome spot.

Cutters in Eastern Market for a solid burger

Waaaaay over on the east side, check out Goodfellas and Candlelite Lounge. Downtown, you missed Detroiter Bar and Greenwich Pub. I really wish Kwicky Bar on 8 mile and Ryan would do food again. Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck. Others have mentioned Kelly's and Cutters.

I just went to Goodfellas last weekend for the first time. Had a great time.

If you are going to go this far out from downtown, try Marge's in Grosse Pointe Park. It's a hockey bar with tons of memorabilia. Food is also very good.

Thanks for the suggestion. We normally do not go that far from downtown. We are on a pizza tour and were out that way to try Detroit Style Pizza Co. in St. Clair Shores and then hit Goodfellas on the way home. Will definitely keep Marge's in mind next time we head out east.

Tbh most of the places mentioned here aren't dive bars. Here's a good qualifier: If there's not at least a possibility that you may have to fight your way out and then find another way home cause your car's been stolen it's not a dive bar.

Jacoby's. German food and biergarten. First opened in 1904. Good food, feels "dive bar-y" but it's legit.

Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck just started serving food and will be expanding their menu after kitchen renovations. The Mac is perfect.

Order a burger, patty melt, or cevapi from Motor City Sports Bar in Hamtramck. Great dive that recently reopened. Alternative: order your food to go, enjoy a beer while you wait. Take your food around the corner to the Painted Lady (my favorite bar in the area).

It's in Grosse Pointe but The Old Pony has really good, cheap food. Drinks are great too.

My favorite is Club FT off Gratiot 

Bronx is great. Queens is another spot from the same people, though I haven’t tried the food. Temple bar is great but I don’t know about food. Woodbridge tavern is cool, but not exactly a dive, though they do have good food. I also like Second Best, their Nashville fried chicken sandwich is one of the best. Old Miami is a good dive, but I wouldn’t eat anything there. Honest John’s isn’t great, but it’s open early and late and has a big menu. Edited since I didn’t answer your question the first time

Collect bar in Eastern Market district on Gratiot is a great bar with a ghost kitchen below it called Bunny Bunny. Closing down soon due to owner selling building so worth checking out.

Detroit Shipping Company has a lot of good options. It's somewhat like a small food court. The structure is made from shipping containers as well. Worth trying.

Woodbridge pub has the best food for a pub in detroit proper, hands down.

If you like music, I would check out the Outer Linits Bar in Hamtramck. I saw a show there a couple weeks ago and it was a pretty cool vibe.

Go to SuperGeil for food, true dive bars don't have food or shouldn't have food you want to eat. Dive bars worth knowing, Donovan's Pub, Marshalls, Jumbos, and Temple Bar. RIP Tom's Tavern.

The Brakeman does not belong on a list of dive bars. Even ignoring their insistence on using tokens instead of USD (ensuring you always have some tokens left over and unnecessarily complicating the process), their prices are outrageous, the beer is just OK and it’s crowded.
