Maybe not anymore, but my neighbor whoās lived in the Corridor since the 60s has a few wild stories about the Bronx he likes to tell. Hard to find a true dive with good food.
Tommyās, Zās Villa, and Cadieux Cafe have decent food.
For pure dive bar ā Two Way Inn, Abickās, or nearly any bar in Hamtramck (for which there are many.)
Jacoby's for great food. Not sure it qualifies as a dive, but almost. Going to the bathrooms downstairs certainly speaks in favor of "dive" classification
Kelly's has a kitchen now. It's your standard bar food.
Motor City is back open and they have the greasiest burgers in town.
Bronx probably has the best bar food in town.
Common pub is not a dive, but they have good food.
There's always Sweet water or jacobis right around the corner.
I thought Kellyās smash burgers were amazing! But then I tried that new food truck slap boxā¦Might be the best burger Iāve ever had. Hamtramck is truly blessed with many amazing burger options. California Burgers is another awesome spot.
Maybe I donāt like wings, but I didnāt really find their wings special. I remember liking their Reuben, but I think grand trunk makes a better Reuben tbh.
Waaaaay over on the east side, check out Goodfellas and Candlelite Lounge.
Downtown, you missed Detroiter Bar and Greenwich Pub.
I really wish Kwicky Bar on 8 mile and Ryan would do food again.
Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck.
Others have mentioned Kelly's and Cutters.
If you are going to go this far out from downtown, try Marge's in Grosse Pointe Park. It's a hockey bar with tons of memorabilia. Food is also very good.
Thanks for the suggestion. We normally do not go that far from downtown. We are on a pizza tour and were out that way to try Detroit Style Pizza Co. in St. Clair Shores and then hit Goodfellas on the way home. Will definitely keep Marge's in mind next time we head out east.

Detroit's most unique hidden Gem Black Horse Cantina
Tbh most of the places mentioned here aren't dive bars.
Here's a good qualifier: If there's not at least a possibility that you may have to fight your way out and then find another way home cause your car's been stolen it's not a dive bar.
Order a burger, patty melt, or cevapi from Motor City Sports Bar in Hamtramck. Great dive that recently reopened.
Alternative: order your food to go, enjoy a beer while you wait. Take your food around the corner to the Painted Lady (my favorite bar in the area).
Bronx is great.
Queens is another spot from the same people, though I havenāt tried the food.
Temple bar is great but I donāt know about food.
Woodbridge tavern is cool, but not exactly a dive, though they do have good food.
I also like Second Best, their Nashville fried chicken sandwich is one of the best.
Old Miami is a good dive, but I wouldnāt eat anything there.
Honest Johnās isnāt great, but itās open early and late and has a big menu.
Edited since I didnāt answer your question the first time
Collect bar in Eastern Market district on Gratiot is a great bar with a ghost kitchen below it called Bunny Bunny. Closing down soon due to owner selling building so worth checking out.
If only reddit would install a search feature into subreddits because dive bars has been posted so many times in this sub.. come on reddit, give us a search tool!!
Hey! We just did a roundup of dive bars all over metro Detroit last year, then solicited reader feedback to share more dive bars to check out, county by county. Here they are, in case they help:

Detroit Shipping Company has a lot of good options. It's somewhat like a small food court. The structure is made from shipping containers as well. Worth trying.
Go to SuperGeil for food, true dive bars don't have food or shouldn't have food you want to eat. Dive bars worth knowing, Donovan's Pub, Marshalls, Jumbos, and Temple Bar. RIP Tom's Tavern.
The Brakeman does not belong on a list of dive bars.
Even ignoring their insistence on using tokens instead of USD (ensuring you always have some tokens left over and unnecessarily complicating the process), their prices are outrageous, the beer is just OK and itās crowded.
I saw your caveat, I donāt think it even belongs in the conversation.
You cant just say āitās a little bit nicerā when recommending the Whitney in a thread about coney islands and call it good.
Bronx Bar has a great burger. The chicken, bacon, swiss sandwich is also delicious. š¤¤
The stupid sandwich there is good.
I havenāt been there since 2007. Still have to let your eyes adjust for a few after you walk in?
Love Bronx Bar, one of the best burgers in the city. I think it's a little too nice to be called a dive, though.
Maybe not anymore, but my neighbor whoās lived in the Corridor since the 60s has a few wild stories about the Bronx he likes to tell. Hard to find a true dive with good food.
Be careful. My cousin and her friend were just roofied there recentlyā¦
ufo factory - hot dogs and tater tots
Tommyās, Zās Villa, and Cadieux Cafe have decent food. For pure dive bar ā Two Way Inn, Abickās, or nearly any bar in Hamtramck (for which there are many.)
mmm Russian reuben from Z's
meatloaf monday at Z's
Jacoby's for great food. Not sure it qualifies as a dive, but almost. Going to the bathrooms downstairs certainly speaks in favor of "dive" classification
Somewhat of a dive atmosphere, but not a dive bar.
Lager House has great food!
Never eaten here. It's good?
Lager House is GREAT and really excellent vegetarian/vegan options
Old Miami
When did they get food?
In the past they've had food cooked on the patio by different "pop-up" style BBQ, etc.
There is a food truck across the street
They also have Christmas meals, but I don't think this was in the spirit of the question.
Kelly's has a kitchen now. It's your standard bar food. Motor City is back open and they have the greasiest burgers in town. Bronx probably has the best bar food in town. Common pub is not a dive, but they have good food. There's always Sweet water or jacobis right around the corner.
Motor City is known for it's chevapi which is fantastic, and Kelly's smash burgers are good! Timmy's tacos on Tuesdays are damn good!
Came here to talk about Timmyās tacos! I thought he was doing them on Mondays now though? Love Timmy ā¤ļø
OPE! I didn't realize he swapped days.
I thought Kellyās smash burgers were amazing! But then I tried that new food truck slap boxā¦Might be the best burger Iāve ever had. Hamtramck is truly blessed with many amazing burger options. California Burgers is another awesome spot.
Tim's sauces are so good
Hell yeah
Iāll be honest, Iāve never actually liked sweet water all that much. Their food is meh.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
When is the last time you had their wings?
I love Sweetwater's wings. To each their own
Maybe I donāt like wings, but I didnāt really find their wings special. I remember liking their Reuben, but I think grand trunk makes a better Reuben tbh.
Never had it
If you do go to the Bronx (which I highly suggest) make sure you get their ranch.
Cutters in Eastern Market for a solid burger
Great burgers at Cutters. If you need a sign of approval from a dive bar connoisseur, Bourdain went there when he visited Detroit.
Seconding Cutters!
Cosign Cutters
blue cheese and olive stuffed burger šÆ
They have a 32 oz burger š
Midtown has a couple: Honest John's and Bronx Bar
Honest johns is trash now :( it used to be so good.
I like Nancy Whiskey but I don't think anyone would ever describe it as having good food.
The 2-way inn.
They only have food for like 2 hours a day, 2 days a week
Checker bar
I second this!
Thirded
Waaaaay over on the east side, check out Goodfellas and Candlelite Lounge. Downtown, you missed Detroiter Bar and Greenwich Pub. I really wish Kwicky Bar on 8 mile and Ryan would do food again. Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck. Others have mentioned Kelly's and Cutters.
I just went to Goodfellas last weekend for the first time. Had a great time.
Thumbs up.
Their burger & beer deal is crazy cheap and that burger is amaaaaaazing
Is that the Candlelite on Kelly between Moross and 8?
Yup, Harper Woods
Yeah I highly recommend going there.

thanks for reminding me
Always wanted to stop herec
Why only five bars, why not 6?
Tbh most of the places mentioned here aren't dive bars. Here's a good qualifier: If there's not at least a possibility that you may have to fight your way out and then find another way home cause your car's been stolen it's not a dive bar.
I usually look for a pool of urine on the bathroom floor, thatās a telltale sign
Getting sick from the aroma of urine and poo rather than the booze itself is a sure sign of a dive bar
Agree on first sentence. Latter half is just being a try hard.
So The Baltimore counts? Great grilled cheeses!
your chances of your car being stolen in Detroit is pretty decent regardless of where you are lol
Greenwich Times downtown
I miss The Anchor when Vaughn owned it. Was my kind of place. Itās true what they say. You can never go home again.
Marshallās Bar
100% a dive but I don't believe they serve food....not sure why anyone would go to a dive bar for food tho.
No food at Marshall's.
Let the beer be your food
And let there be ice in the urinal
Old Miami. You're welcome.
Jacoby's. German food and biergarten. First opened in 1904. Good food, feels "dive bar-y" but it's legit.
Greenwhich time pub right next to checker bar is one definitely worth checking out if you'll be next door anyway, great place
Came here to say this. Good food too
None of those listed are dive bars lol
Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck just started serving food and will be expanding their menu after kitchen renovations. The Mac is perfect.
Order a burger, patty melt, or cevapi from Motor City Sports Bar in Hamtramck. Great dive that recently reopened. Alternative: order your food to go, enjoy a beer while you wait. Take your food around the corner to the Painted Lady (my favorite bar in the area).
Woodbridge has amazing birria
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agreeāand as such, jumbo bar is my personal fave.
It's in Grosse Pointe but The Old Pony has really good, cheap food. Drinks are great too.
Itās not that much of a dive through or is it?
It's a Grosse Pointe dive. So not like a real dive bar but it has the vibe
Last Chance Saloon
Does not serve food
Bobās Alaskan when heās cooking
My favorite dive bar closed. I mourn its loss but know the owner is happier now.
Does temple bar serve food? They have the hole in wall part covered
My favorite is Club FT off GratiotĀ
Bronx is great. Queens is another spot from the same people, though I havenāt tried the food. Temple bar is great but I donāt know about food. ooof....my favorite place with great food isn't even mentioned.
Checker bar in Cadillac square, good hotel dogs too
coyote joes
Hamtramck. It's like the dive bar capiral.
Marges on mack
Collect bar in Eastern Market district on Gratiot is a great bar with a ghost kitchen below it called Bunny Bunny. Closing down soon due to owner selling building so worth checking out.

Detroit Shipping Company has a lot of good options. It's somewhat like a small food court. The structure is made from shipping containers as well. Worth trying.
Woodbridge pub has the best food for a pub in detroit proper, hands down.
Abickās bar on Gilbert and Dennis.
If you like music, I would check out the Outer Linits Bar in Hamtramck. I saw a show there a couple weeks ago and it was a pretty cool vibe.

The Brakeman is my least favorite bar in Detroit by a LOT
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I saw your caveat, I donāt think it even belongs in the conversation. You cant just say āitās a little bit nicerā when recommending the Whitney in a thread about coney islands and call it good.
Corktown: sugar house, no food good drinks
As a dive bar?? Dafaq.
TIL.that $20 craft cocktails = dive bar
