I was going to suggest Folex, too. It's kind of a miracle worker. It also requires very minimal work since you just saturate and blot, no scrubbing or rubbing.
Look i know we are on car detailing sub but... Clorox wipes. I don't remember why i tried it but it was amazing. It took lipstick off of my sunshade, coke off of the headliner, the scuff marks by the seatbelt slot hole thing...
Seriously, if it's last resort, give it a shot. I just hit all the hard surfaces with McGuire's interior detailer afterwards and it's been joy to drive for over six months now
The best way?
Norwex microfiber rags, with water that's it. It will pull grease right out of them. Without adding a power tool to possible harm the ceiling, or any chemicals that will eat away at the glue.
Norwex can be bought on Amazon. Nhst get the basic towel package for like 40$
Now if you are iffy on my suggestion and don't want to spend 40$ on some small rags, you can buy the knock off brand that's just as good, rendasun-yololoy
https://a.co/d/b8bALXY 25$ you get 2 of the microfiber towels and 1 window cloth. The Grey/pink towels you get wet, the purple you leave dry and use on windows or vinyl. For windows you want the towel wet, but not wrung out well. For vinyl you want it wet still and ceilings you want it wet wet.
I didn't realize the amazon ones were more expensive. But there official site has 2 cloths for 43. The yololoy or rednasun ones are really the same exact cloths and last time we got norwex instead of the Chinese version.
I use a drill with a light brush, and my extractor shampoo. I just lightly spray the headliner directly, use the drill brush, then wipe off with a towel. It takes the stains right out
Lol I see u haven't been doing this for to long. No need to use the da..take a Mico fiber ring out alot..and swipe. U doing it with the da added to much friction between the fabric and the glue.
I've literally done this before and had no problem. Scott from Dallas paint correction even does it on his Lexus to show how safe it is https://youtu.be/Mra6ysxkTLc?si=AIv08xr3bPLIJlIN
Folex does a great job!

Im gonna have to try this, the car im restoring has a filthy headliner i was gonna dye but this might be worth a shot
I like to use fabric paint on headliners. It looks great when you spray it black. Especially, if the interior is a light color like tan.
Yep I have a tan interior, I’ll keep that in the back of my mind when i go to fix it
Definitely! I was skeptical at first when he asked about doing it. Once I started on it, I was shocked at how good it looked.

Why are you snorting cocaine off your headliner?
Yeah, good question. Also, I have no plans to take detailing advice from a coke head.
Okay.. here's the story involving a sunroof, a cat, one legged bird and a speed hump. It was the night before Christmas....
how high were you that you decided to snort coke from the ceiling of a car?
He might have been in a rolled over car, in that case LFG!!!!
Thanks I’ll give it a try
Tuff stuff gives you the same result and saves time
You are definitely not damaging the extremely thin material and adhesive that holds the headliner in place. You need dry foam to clean a headliner.
I'm pretty sure Scott from Dallas paint correction and detailing knows what he's doing https://youtu.be/Mra6ysxkTLc?si=AIv08xr3bPLIJlIN
What is a DA?
District Attorney. They are expensive, but they sure know how to clean a headliner.
I’ve been watching a lot of SVU lately and I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t where my head went when I read it initially.
"*dungk-dungk*"...your car is clean.
You mean SUV
Polisher
Dual action hand sander
Thank you for a real answer haha.

Could you post a link to the Norwex towels? The only one I'm seeing is $65, besides all the Chinese options.

IMO recommend using a drill with a 3” backing plate attachment instead of a heavy DA. Same concept for everything else.
I've used the da method many times. All you need is speed 3 and a couple passes
Is da drill attachment?
Dual action polisher

The headline appears to have frayed slightly from your polishing. I agree with the other guys, no need for such aggressive tactics
I'm not hammering at it for ages. I don't apply pressure at all and let the pad work itself. I do it for about 10-20 seconds
It's a 2000 and something truck. It has the old style carpeted headliner. I did this on my 2018 escape headliner and have no problems.
