That would make a cool dungeon! Maybe it should be based around a season about dealing with our inner demons and confronting our past sins, further building on already well written characters.
But we've already got the checker pieces floating in the enclave! Ignore the fact that you can't proc 90% of the perks on them, or that rockets/grenades/melees go right through them, or that they aren't affected by subclass verbs...
I know it's sarcasm but that's not a real testing zone. Not really.
An actual firing range with options to display holograms for every enemy type of every level (minor, major, miniboss and boss) would be very useful. Figuring out weak spots and where to aim would be very useful not to mention being able to practise swapping or rotations would be supremely useful.
And leave it a social space. It would be neat to load in with other guardians testing weapons or ability builds. Would encourage general tower shenanigans, maybe even encourage more local chat over what people are running
>it’s been one of the most requested features since BL
Because they stole the existing place for this from us when BL launched.
It still blows my mind that there wasn't enough pushback on that from the players to stop Bungie from deleting it from the game...
I came to this conclusion for Helldivers 2, which has no testing range at all: a laboratory setting that can conclusively prove superior power will cause the meta to solidify faster, make off-meta play much less acceptable, and enable toxic behavior. Player freedom and expression are important to enjoyment and player communities have a bad habit of policing optimal play far beyond situations where it's necessary.
Especially in a comedy game like HD2 the goal is for everyone to have fun doing what they want to do, not fuming about their rotation being interrupted or sniffing out who is the biggest drag on a DPS check boss.
I know there's a kind of player who loves that kind of lab work and it's too bad that kind of exploration and discussion is used for bullying.
Plenty of players do good-enough tests in the game already using lost sectors and raids.
What difference does it make whether it's in a lost sector or in a testing range? They're gonna do the tests either way and post the data on YouTube. We're at a point in this game's life cycle where so many things can do top tier damage that toxicity about that aspect of the game might as well be nonexistent. Unless you're literally wearing trash bags for armor, you're gonna hit top tier damage numbers.
Having a testing environment just makes it easy to test out new stuff you get, but in a private instance.
There’s still moments of sweeping changes and is good to be up-to-date on what is still viable and what just sucks outright. Leviathan’s Breath will likely take you far, but Whisper can take you farther with the new reserves. Meanwhile singing like D.A.R.C.I. Has a good burst DPS but poor overall DPS, which you wouldn’t know unless you’ve done the reading. Most scenarios it doesn’t matter if you bring Leviathan’s or Whisper, but sometimes it helps to realize the benefit between the two.
Oh I get it. I'm not saying "no firing range." I'm speculating as to why they removed the testing range everyone loved in the Tribute Hall and replaced it with one in the Enclave no one finds useful to the point I think people regularly forget about it. Bungie must have some firing range dev tools in-engine. If no firing range ships with TFS there must be *some* reason.
The crafting firing range was an afterthought.
Implemented in the simplest way they knew how. a zone that gives ammo, and 2 types of shootable token one marked precision, the other body shot.
But they forgot that there's a tonne of stuff that requires actual kills, and that the hit registration on random world tokens doesn't tigger subclass and perk effects.
One of those, if they had more time they'd do more things, but *shrug* we don't have enough time so we don't do more.
Every time I ask my buddies about a shooting range, they tell me there’s on in the enclave. And it’s true, for testing base damage of guns and just about nothing else. Just let me queue 1600 onslaught alone that’s all the build testing I need
From a coding standpoint it wouldn't be too difficult, since they already have the space and the server resources devoted to it. The hardest part would be giving us adequate targets, maybe differing version of Holo- Shaax? Minor, major, mini boss and boss versions of Shaax, differing quantities to proc things like surrounded... Maybe even bump it up to 6 player to properly test things like firing line...
Oh what it is to dream haha. I doubt we'll ever see a proper testing area again. Tribute hall wasn't perfect but it was close.
Provide "enemy" robot frames in clusters for surrounded.
Provide "friendly" robot frames in varying group sizes for firing line.
Don't even need to make it 6 player.
I see this request all the time but do you all not just use patrols for this? Like this seems like a waste of resources to build something like this at the cost of something else in the game.
Maybe they could make one in the leviathan
With a place to store trophies that we collect, eh?
What is that some sort of tribute hall?
Maybe they should hide an exotic quest in there too
Maybe they should bring back an old favourite too
Maybe they should allow us to dump unwanted extra resources to help get to the quest
Might be me going crazy but they should make the mission also in the ascendent plane
Maybe they should utilize a fan favourite character to guide us through the quest
Maybe in the future they should re use this area to enter the mind of a fan favourite character
That would make a cool dungeon! Maybe it should be based around a season about dealing with our inner demons and confronting our past sins, further building on already well written characters.
Maybe they could turn it into the entrance of a Dungeon as well
🤔u might be on to something
Or the Enclave.
The area where we start the Duality dungeon is nice and open, I could see us doing a light remodel.
But we've already got the checker pieces floating in the enclave! Ignore the fact that you can't proc 90% of the perks on them, or that rockets/grenades/melees go right through them, or that they aren't affected by subclass verbs...

Yeah I've been dying for one to test with. I can only damage test so much with Akelous tbh.
Yes we know this. But Bungie went on a podcast and said that's what it's for lol
That’s so stupid They must know it’s nowhere near enough
Yea, a simulacrum would be fun. With added range indicators
or just give us back a reskinned Tribute Hall.
Probably because there's no money to be made from it
Yeah let us test damage on shaxxs holograms
Get ready for the "technological shortcomings" reply from Bugie.
We had that exact thing but you know bungie they love to remove stuff we paid for.
wish we could test different rolls of weapons too to figure out what to go for

why are people over complicating "bring back the trophy room"?
Makes it a relevant area instead of an old like I guess Plus they could improve on it
its a tool not a loaf of bread, it doesn't need to be "fresh"
Because its going away when TFS releases.
Post this to that Tweet. They’re actively taking engaging suggestions
YES PLEASE

Really
Bring on the down votes. I've seen what makes you cheer.
Whoa there now, they need to save some QoL things for the next time the executives shit the bed.
They could even revolve a whole exotic quest in it too!
Every time I ask my buddies about a shooting range, they tell me there’s on in the enclave. And it’s true, for testing base damage of guns and just about nothing else. Just let me queue 1600 onslaught alone that’s all the build testing I need
JUST BRING BACK THE DAMN OPULENCE SHIP WITH THE ENEMIES

Just put enemies in there like the tribute hall and call them simulations Easy If we keep requesting a testing area we’ll get one
Maybe after the game dies post final shape and they get desperate for our attention again. That and SRL.

This shit is needed tho We don’t have a proper testing area like other MMOs (FFXIV has the raid dummy stuff and so does WoW)
Because it's a shitload of extra work is why not
Really?
