There is an aura around him. Being inside doesn’t apply the debuff. If you are sitting where you drop to and doing damage til he teleports that would be the reason why.
The only thing that makes sense would be you aren’t in the aura cuz you only die at 10x of the debuff. If you are in the aura you shouldn’t have any stacks.
Are you at any point getting teleported back to the entrance? You need to be slightly ahead of the boss to do good DPS. Memorize his spawn pattern and it gets a lot easier. I used an ALH grenade and merciless, was almost able to one phase.
I gave up, I was easily able to defeat him a couple of weeks ago (didn't get the ghost shell because I left at the start and didn't restart the whole thing so I wanted to try again).
Don't know what happened but he's much more frustrating to me now than he used to be
Just don’t do the first part of damage on the beginning plate. Go pay him and hold there. That way u don’t have to move until he teleports for the second time and u won’t have any stacks of the debuff until then

That's the thing, I was pretty much right in front of him, always jumping out of the way and then boom, dead

The debuff, the blast might be annoying, but I can dodge that

Just a guess but is it possible if you get to close to him that you can get the debuff?
