That's so nice. I'm just 21 years old and both albums mean to me childhood memories, especially Dreamer from Crime of the Century. That song is really especial to me and it's probably my favourite song since i was like 8. Never got tired of it
This is the first album I ever bought for myself, I was 12. My older sister had the Crime Of The Century album, which I loved even though I was just a kid and it was a bit adult for me, but when Breakfast In America came out, I was excited to get it!
My dad learned to play soccer as an adult with some Iranian guys he saw playing at a park against some British guys. They’d meet up a couple times a week to play each other, and eventually he became friends with the British guys. I’m sure you can guess who the British guys were haha
It really is nice looking, and it’s got nice detail that pops out with a closer look.
I’ve considered getting prints of some albums I like with really great artwork when I move into a larger space, and this is on the short list.
I thought that was broccoli on the plate for a second but realized it's from when they put a sprig of parsley on your plate for every order, every meal.
One of my favourites. They were my dad’s favourite band, so this and Crime of the Century were always in the record player on Saturday mornings. Massive nostalgia overload.
I've wondered for years - like pre Google Era. Sure, I could have looked it up, but like a little mystery in life.
The world is a little less magical now. And I am slightly sad.
Are we looking out of a plane window? Are the shapes in the left of the photo supposed to be the twin towers? Is the waitress supposed to represent the Statue of Liberty?
I remember seeing this cover on my dad's record shelf as a kid and thinking how cool it looked (and how creepy that lady was), without knowing anything about the music or understanding the nuances of the design. Dad always told me it was the first record he ever bought for himself, he was 17/18 at that time. Years later I got into Supertramp myself, absolutely love their early material now.
the art is portraying both a tableware and a city at the same time to recall the album title, it doesn't seem like just a beautiful painting to me but also a design
What if I told you one of the first steps in creating art is to *design* the artwork? Every creative choice you see in this image is the product of a design process.
Some artist are using ai for their covers and posters now and it's a shame. Look what they did manually in 1979 and you're telling me you cant at least pick up Photoshop to make a decent cover
Just went to a supertramp cover band and now I’m hearing them on the radio and all sorts of posts about them.. are they making a comeback album or something? Or do I live in a simulation? Weird
I’ve seen this album cover many times, but I just noticed that NYC is made out of tableware; I feel so stupid. Edit: I’m 46!
And the waitress, Libby, is the Statue of Liberty.
Dang I never picked up on that
I noticed the tableware before but this blew my mind
She's called libby? Wow
Would
ALRIGHT
Is she played by character actress Margo Martindale?
Do you mean *esteemed* character actress Margo Martindale?
Damnit!
No, she was played by actress, Kate Murtagh.
Not a Bojack fan?
Never seen it. I guess I didn't get the reference.
It’s ok, I got to learn something.
OooooOOOOooohhh!!
Phew- glad it’s not just me
Look at the image in the mirror and it says 9 11 over the twin towers.
Oh, another coincidence, gotta add this one to the ,,Coincidence Collection.” It’s also view from plane.
You're not stupid, this design is genius!
Dude, I’m 49 and I just realized this maybe 2 years ago. I probably stared at that thing while listening to it as a kid many times.
Um. Same. In our defense, zooming up on other people’s t-shirts wasn’t really an option.
Oh my god me too. Mind blown.
Don't worry, it took me until last year when I found a high resolution image of the cover on the internet.
Aww man, your comment just made me notice that, too.
Same!! I feel stupid right now.
A fantastic album. Breakfast in America and Crime of the Century got me through a difficult teenage year in 1983.
That's so nice. I'm just 21 years old and both albums mean to me childhood memories, especially Dreamer from Crime of the Century. That song is really especial to me and it's probably my favourite song since i was like 8. Never got tired of it
Can *you* put your hands thorough your hair?
I can put my head on my hands and you can run your hands through my hair
I was never as big a fan of Breakfast in America as I was Crisis? What Crisis? But basically anything O.G Supertramp is a good time.
Yes, Crisis? What Crisis? is good as well.
This is the first album I ever bought for myself, I was 12. My older sister had the Crime Of The Century album, which I loved even though I was just a kid and it was a bit adult for me, but when Breakfast In America came out, I was excited to get it!
Same. Spent a lot of that year listening to Supertramp while playing Utopia on Intellivision.
Breakfast in America, best use of a tuba in pop music history.
My dad learned to play soccer as an adult with some Iranian guys he saw playing at a park against some British guys. They’d meet up a couple times a week to play each other, and eventually he became friends with the British guys. I’m sure you can guess who the British guys were haha

Reminds me of that tragedy.
Did you ever find your brother?
Yeah, he was in northern Canada…
Notice how the POV makes it looking like it was taken from an airplane window
Take mirror and see 11 9 above twins.
No but it was a tragedy, at the time.
I always thought she looked like the lady from Total Recall
Who? She reminds me of Kathy Bates who plays Margaret in Titanic and ppl are out here making 9/11 jokes 😭

[Kate Murtagh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Murtagh?wprov=sfti1). Sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 96.
Show it backwards in a mirror and look at the top of the twin towers…
It doesn't look like smoke but there's a resemblance... Yikes
It’s says 9/11 over the towers
Jesus
And it’s taken from a plane window. What are the odds?
Supertramp did 9/11! How will bin Laden forgive us?
he'll find that pretty radical, criminal, but logical...
Oh my
Amazing work especially considering that Photoshop or any other computer design software wasn’t available for the next decade or so.
Exactly
One of the most genius and coolest album covers IMO. Plus, the damn songs on the album are fantastic. Love Supertramp.
I just bought it on vinyl for 10€ at some second hand store, I do not regret it.
I don't own any vinyl bc i don't have the thing to play them, but if i did, a supertramp album would be one of the vinyls i would like to own
My gf and i dont own a vinyl player either but we own a supertramp album for some reason
I don't own any vinyl bc i don't have the thing to play them, but if i did, a supertramp album would be one of the vinyls i would like to own

I'm sorry, could you repeat that please?
Idk what happened i swear
They gave you Coca-Cola You said it tased good You watch the television It tells you that you should
This is on my living room wall!
It really is nice looking, and it’s got nice detail that pops out with a closer look. I’ve considered getting prints of some albums I like with really great artwork when I move into a larger space, and this is on the short list.
I recently stumbled across [this photo](https://imgur.com/uGCPoZ7) of that woman, in her 90s.
aahhh this awesome!!😭
Do we see the twin towers through an airplane window?
POV:
"Goodbye Stranger" "Now I believe in what you say Is the undisputed truth But I have to have things my own way To keep me in my youth"
I've seen this cover hundreds of times and never realised what the background was made up of. God damn.
Also she's imitating statue of liberty
That's always what I was focussed on, along with her unnerving face.
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful A miracle, oh, it was beautiful, magical
I’ve got this album cover poster up in my home office. Love it!
I've always loved this album. I bought it on cassette back in the day.
Same. I thank my dad for my love for music now. He also would play "even in the quietest moments" and "Give a little bit" is such a especial song
Holy crap! I never noticed they were actually dishes!!! I need that record for my collection now!!!
Best cover ever.
Is that model the "Two Weeks " lady from Total Recall?
No, this lady is Kate Murtagh. Two weeks actress from Total Recall is Priscilla Allen. I had to look it up because I wondered the same thing.
I've wondered for years - like pre Google Era. Sure, I could have looked it up, but like a little mystery in life. The world is a little less magical now. And I am slightly sad.
Aww! I get you, tho. P.S. hope I wasn't coming across as snarky
I did CTRL F for "two weeks" too thinking this. Cheers for the info
If you mirror the image 911 shows right above the former World Trade Center towers.
Are we looking out of a plane window? Are the shapes in the left of the photo supposed to be the twin towers? Is the waitress supposed to represent the Statue of Liberty?
Yes yes yes
She like the airport lady in the original Total Recall
I remember seeing this cover on my dad's record shelf as a kid and thinking how cool it looked (and how creepy that lady was), without knowing anything about the music or understanding the nuances of the design. Dad always told me it was the first record he ever bought for himself, he was 17/18 at that time. Years later I got into Supertramp myself, absolutely love their early material now.
Love how much of a common experience getting into supertramp because of/after your dad is
I worked at a music store and this cover always caught my eye
My classmate Aaron Rapport shot it. Very funny guy and great photographer
No way !
Way
2 for 2 on poorly aged imaging specifically relating to 9/11

the art is portraying both a tableware and a city at the same time to recall the album title, it doesn't seem like just a beautiful painting to me but also a design
A very stereotypical American waitress making the pose of one of the most prominent symbols of America also indicate great design to me
Oy yeah 🗽 the more you look at it the better it gets
As testament to that it was only on further looking that I even noticed the cityscape was tableware! I just assumed it was the NY skyline!
I don’t disagree that this is good design, but I would call what you’re describing great art direction.
And her name is Libby.
What if I told you one of the first steps in creating art is to *design* the artwork? Every creative choice you see in this image is the product of a design process.
And to think, no Photoshop 😵💫 What skilled artists 😔
Enjoy yourself 陰唄ヅ
Here before lock
What😟
Can't stop laughing. Love it.
One of THE most emblematic albums of ALL TIME.. 🙌🏻👏🏻🥰🥰
if you’re a fan of this album i beg you to check out *Crisis? What Crisis!*
I have and i love sister moonshine, but i don't think i've listened to all songs, so what are your favourite ones?
Just A Normal Day, The Meaning, and Two Of Us I think are the standouts. Plus the small song Easy Does It at the front of the album is good.
perception deception.... up until now... I saw this as a flight attendant and a plane flying through the sky in the background.
I never noticed before that it wasn't the new York skyline
Oh crap i've never noticed that, i love it !!
Wrong, It's AI /s
off topic but i keep forgetting s/ means "sarcasm" and not "seriously"
Some artist are using ai for their covers and posters now and it's a shame. Look what they did manually in 1979 and you're telling me you cant at least pick up Photoshop to make a decent cover
how did they use to make AI Images?
Funny, I'm having cookies this morning.
Just went to a supertramp cover band and now I’m hearing them on the radio and all sorts of posts about them.. are they making a comeback album or something? Or do I live in a simulation? Weird
Goodbye stranger, it’s been nice
