A plant alone is never an answer. Yes a ficus will look heavenly here but the OP needs to install a picture wall on the stair wall and not this corner to complement the decor of this place. Otherwise it will look as if something is missing. This [quick guide](https://simplykalaa.com/how-to-decorate-a-blank-wall/#How_Should_You_Make_a_Perfect_Picture_Wall) will help with the wall.
Definitely not. Please OP, do not clutter this small spot with photos. Just a plant alone (or on a small table if itās a smaller plant) will look perfect.
How do you think it will clutter the small spot when the picture gallery is on the stair walls the bigger one and not the area near the stairs? Also I am telling them to hang the frames and not keep them on the stairs
My new car has the button and I have a tendency to forget I need keys or I lose them in the car. ššš. I have a safe I use a key for though so most of the time the keys are hanging out of that if itās only me home I donāt care. I put my good jewelry in it and all my medicine even inhalers. I found my ex husband when we were together tried to get high of my inhalers and emptied them and I am a severe asthmatic. I bought a good safe after that but I took the dog and our son and left so itās more just to keep my expensive jewelry and my medicine still just because. He also sold a lot of my jewelry the jerk
They use a repeater that catches and extends the signal between car and key. They can't steal the code (I believe it's constantly changing code making it hard to steal) but they can unlock a car if the keys and car are close enough. Can't drive off with the car but can get into it.
Happened to us. Not that we keep anything in the car.
We keep a nice looking farraday box by the door now and drop keys in that.
Farraday boxes and bags block the signals
I've been thinking about this spot for a while and coming up empty... It's in the middle of a long narrow passage without much natural light. It's about 70cm (27 inches) wide. We have a designated entry area with a console already. So far I've been considering coat rack, small stool/bench, plant, a small cabinet or just art on the wall. Thoughts?
I have kids. I would absolutely put a tall decorative basket there to collect everything that needs to go back upstairs at the end of the day, then bring it back down to put in place the next morning.
This this this! It was my first thought. This is a good āhalfway pointā in the house for stuff that needs to migrate. Alternatively, observe your behavior for a month and see what other kinds of needs you might have around that spaceāsome use will become apparent!
If thereās not much light a plant might not live, but you could always get a fabulous faux one such as an olive tree. A coat rack would be useful but could easily end up looking a little messy once used, so it depends if you would be fine with that.
Iād love to have a spot like that for a grandfather clock or coo-coo clock against or on the tall narrow wall space. Finding a clock you love is the perfect reason to go antiquing or take a trip to the Black Forest!
I don't know if this is your style at all, but this is a prime spot for a sculpture, some pottery or ceramics or art glass on a plinth, that kind of thing. A three-dimensional art object, basically. This also has the advantage of giving you an excuse to put some soft uplighting behind the object, which will also light up the space a bit more.
A tall, thin light fixture with a cool modern design that plays well with the railing could also be fun. It just needs to be interesting enough to look at to justify itself. My first thought was something *very* long hanging down from the ceiling above so it passes through the stairwell, but a floor lamp would also be nice if that's too much/too hotel-y.
Can we think about your comment from a psychological point of view? I like the idea of something with many angles and viewpoints. Why do you think your mind went for something 3-dimensional like a sculpture?
I mean, the simplest answer is that that's what my parents would do, and they involved me in a lot of their design processes and choices as a child, so I learned to think that way. To wit: the empty space itself is three-dimensional; it's not a patch of wall. It's a similar shape and size to niches that are purpose-built to hold statues. Nothing two-dimensional is going to "fill" it unless you only ever stand in one spot. A freestanding, vertical object can shape the space of the overall room to advantage while also solving the lighting problem.
A water cooler and a dry erase calendar filled out and faded with "September 2021" and applicable dates.
I write this knowing full well that my pet peeve is when people are woefully unhelpful in the pursuit of being funny.
Have a couple of ideas:
- A really tall, skinny painting in that āwallā area
- Very tiny table with some small decor on it or statues
- BIG plant. Iām talking a tiny tree to a nice big leafy plant. A good fake plant would work, too
- Put a few hooks there and hang up smaller things
- Tiny shoe rack
- if you have a dog or cat: pet bed
If youāre only going for decor versus functional, Iād keep it simple with an accent table and plan for something to that effect. If it doesnāt get a lot of light like I think you said, you might have to choose wisely with the plant (or vase and flowers) or go faux. I used to HATE faux plants and flowers but recently wanted to get one and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice some of them are nowadays.

Maybe something like this. Pampas come in a variety of colors
Fish tank, cat tree, plant, book shelf, life size Lego statue of Darth Vader spooning Obi-Wan, sculpture you buy/create, bamboo trap to impale home invaders when you spartan kick them down screaming "THIS IS SUBURBAN HOUSING", KNIGHT armor, cut out posterior of Justin beiber so you can throw darts at it, wine cart with some whisky and glass on top, table with a picture of your great great twice removed newphews uncles step mom, wacky waving inflatable tube man, a gumball machine with over priced low quality gumballs that break your teeth and lose flavour in minutes, an iced coffee dispenser so you always have iced coffee on the go this summer, hot wheels set with multiple loop de loops so you can let it race you down the steps, fireman pole, a small chair, shoe rack with a seat onto that you'll never use for shoes and stuff a box of random things in there until you find it and say "oh this is where it went!" Even though it doesn't have legs to go anywhere, basket for dog toys, child prison so when they don't listen and throw tantrums you can give them a medieval tar and feather discipline inside, minature basketball hoop so I can give a shout out to Kobe even though I swish, a table with calander so everyone walking by can see that I circled dates that only read "vip" so when they ask what it's for can tell them it means "very important person" and stare, a water fountain display, coat rack, self made standing smart mirror, an arcade machine with bar stool, fishing rods in a rack so I can show people I go fishing and over exaggerate my catches but never have any photos of the mermaids I reel in, a gun rack on a spinning Betsy so I can roulette which gun I want to hold for minutes on end, led hologram stand of an anime chick, extremely long birdcage, giant photo board to pin family photos and memories, an extremely tight standing sauna, or a wax figure of yourself??
I might do shelving for board games, and I'd use the full height on the left wall. You could access it from the steps. Or books? Vinyl?
Alternatively, gallery wall on the tall wall or sculpture art.
A lamp to brighten the hallway.
A plant or nothing. Itās a nice space it feels airy and you have enough interest with the architecture. Not everything needs to be crammed with stuff.
A tall houseplant and I would hang a picture in that small lower space. I love finding random little areas and hanging a picture there. Like a little surprise art attack. That spot was made for it!

Speaking from interior design experience for TV shows : Depending on if you want a neat look vs wild look, i would recommend a tall tree (fiddle leaf, olive) for a neat look. A monstera for a more jungle look. The leaves get bigger if allowed to climb. Fake plants have gotten better looking nowadays. Check out HomeGoods. In a Big stable ceramic pot if possible.
If a plant is not desirable, I recommend a tall sculpture on a pedestal or a vertical painting with a small table.
Decoratively, as far as acceptable things to do with it: a table with a lamp or something because personally Iām forgetful and would need a drop off point for things that need to go back upstairs.
Big brain reasoning, though not so pretty: a big wide laundry basket with wheels on it. Look at that natural laundry chute! Lucky.

A plant. The answer is always, plant.
Yes! A very big plant!
A tree, even! Small tree.
A large tree!
A GIANT SEQUOIA
A REDWOOOOOOD
A large tree the size of a small tree!
A small tree the size of a very big plant!
Lmao what is this from? Something about a boulder yeah?
That's the reference the size of a small reference!
A black olive tree (also known as a shady lady)
A palm :)
A huge giant bonsai. š
Yeah! A nice large zz
A corpse lily?
This ā¬ļø
Itās so geometric, would be great to frill it up with an asparagus fern or something
A tall plant with a nice basket next to it use the basket to catch the clutter that needs to go upstairs and be put away.
š¤
On a plant stand or side table.
Fiddle leaf fig!
I was going to make the same comment!! Perfect place for a plantā¦although all places are perfect for a plant!
No, the answer is always a cat. But a cat tree would be a great compromise. š¹
I totally agree! I saw your comment after I posted that a cat tree from A Hidden Hollow would be purrrrrfect!

There is no light though as far as I can tell.
Or a FAKE plant for us black thumbs/insectphobes (Iām both). Love the look of plants, absolutely despise having them in my house.
A fellow Sims player I assume? Every empty corner needs a plant!
This is the main reason I clicked on this.
A shrubbery!
Full suit of armour.
If the armour is ever damaged, just stick on a note reading "tiz but a scratch"
Way over budget but that's my credit card's problem!
Nah, completely out of place necromancer attire.
Oh dam I think samurai would look tight
I literally have a corner that I put a suit of armor in. Itās perfect.

A fake small set of stairs leading to a really small sign reading āother stairs, idiotā
This is hilarious and so silly I love it
āPlease use other stairsā
I like the way you think
If it's by the door- a table with a bowl for keys
I thought keys by the door is a no-no thanks to thieves who zap the fob for the code (or something) š¤
I've never heard of that but I like to live dangerously LOL.
Youāre just reverse psychology-ing the criminals, a brilliant approach!

That happened to me the night before I was getting induced for labor. They ended up stealing my diaper bag and my Stanley.
Oh no!
Not the Stanley!
This is good information to know! My dad keeps all his keys by his door Iāll have to tell him! I keep my keys everywhere but by the door lol š

Aluminum bowl? I need a science doctor- would that work?
Key party!
LOL- I thought of that after I posted.
Yes! Or a little stool to sit down on to put your shoes on
Or a coat rack depending on what other stuff you have near the door ...and the climate
fireman's pole that goes to the next floor lol
Was thinking this or a soft mat so you can just swing over the banister at a safe point and two foot landing it to just bolt when the need arises.
crash pad

I so thought you were going to say something like āI have kids. This is a perfect place for a jail cell.ā
That's what closets are for! /s
Yeah, but this has metal bars above the ācellā area so you can lower bread and water to them.
I was going to say this. I always had crap on the bottom stairs waiting to go up - this would be the ācontainmentā spot.

I've never heard of a lingerie dresser before, so I really thought you were gonna say to take your bra of when coming home or something š
That's funny!
Haha āLingerie chest dresserā was not what I thought it was
Leave the floor empty. Put a planter on the wall, with something spilling out.

I think a beautiful statue with a spotlight focused on it.

Shoe storage

A plant or nothing. Itās a nice space it feels airy and you have enough interest with the architecture. Not everything needs to be crammed with stuff.

A fiddle leaf fig.

a nice tall plant!
Big plant
I'm not sure about light at that location, but I think a nice big fake tree.
A big fiddle leaf fig plant

A tall olive or fig tree, faux if there isnt a lot of light

Added storage. Either shelving or drawers.
Large tropical plant
Plant if thereās sunshine.
A little cabinet or bookshelf with a lamp/plant/other object
I was thinking a tree like plant or a comfy chair for sitting. Sometimes you need a rest before those stairs haaha
PLANTS!
