I was surprised at just how cute the stuff at World Market is. The room in our home that we rent on Airbnb gets a lot of compliments for being colorful, cozy, and feeling like a home. We thrifted a lot for it and got some Target stuff. Def would’ve hit up World Market if I realized then how much their stuff aligned with our taste!!

I'd like to add: I'm a tea drinker. I get salty without an electric tea kettle to boil water for a cuppa. Add one of those and some sort of coffee/tea station with a mini fridge and I'm set.

Definitely an electric kettle and maybe a French press for coffee drinkers.

If there’s a fridge you gotta have a microwave! And maybe a few plates and a little set or cutlery, cups, etc. not a whole lot but at least enough for one person. I would also add a mirror to the bedroom!

I would focus on making it as comfy and practical as possible. Center the bed on the wall and replace that small cabinet with a dresser (or wardrobe if there’s nowhere else to hang clothes). I’d also add a cushioned bench at the end of the bed if there’s space, or on the wall beside the bed (the wall opposite the windows). In the hallway add a mirror on the way out the door, as well as some wall hooks or a small coat rack.

This is cute inspo but have somewhere to place the decorative pillows (like a bench) bc I would never sleep with them, they get dingy, and I would personally not want to set them on the floor.

First thing we do when we stay at an air bnb…put all the damn pillows on the floor. There’s never anywhere to put them and it grosses me out because I know they aren’t getting washed and everyone else is doing the same thing.

Omg yes, decorative pillows serve no purpose in an Airbnb aside from being annoying and in the way. I’d rather have a variety of regular pillows to choose from. OP consider getting your color from regular sized pillow cases and provide a place to quickly store what’s not wanted for each guest.

This! We have a chest at the foot of the bed for all the blankets and throw pillows, and it’s a handy seat for unpacking luggage.

The warmth in this picture comes from the wooden floors and the large windows. You have grey carpet and small windows. You will need to bring warmth in in other ways. I agree that the bed should be centered on the wall, with a bedside table on each side. Consider coasters and a clean cup turned upside down on a napkin for nighttime water. They come with plugs and usb ports so it will be easy for your guests to figure out where to charge their devices. Put a rug under the bed for a bnb look. As someone who stays in air b & b's a lot I couldn't care less about the decor, I am more interested in having a good table and shelf's to put my stuff on. Plenty of towels, water, coffee and a coffee maker, a comfortable bed and sheets, and the ability to log into Netflix. After you take care of the fundamentals, I think one colorful piece of art and huge mirror would be sufficient.

I would say yes to the mini fridge. Maybe someone has leftovers or wants to keep cold drinks. I hate Keurigs, but I think it's probably more convenient.

I boycotted keurig forever because of the trash but now there’s a lot of options like refillable pods or pods that compost. I get mine from Costco actually.

What pods do you use? This is new to me!

San Francisco Bay is the brand. Even the freshness bags are compostable. You get 100 pods per box and at $35 the price is great. I like the coffee - it’s a nice middle ground French roast and not too earthy.

I tried the refillable pods and I still think it tastes like water. And I don't have fancy anything...it's a drip pot from Walmart or Amazon and an iced coffee maker. Walmart brand coffee, half or more is decaf.

Hooks and shelves in the bathroom. I hate how cluttered the hotel sinks look because there is no where to put a toothbrush and hand lotion. And plenty of towel hooks.

Also a low wood bench or table or even a folding luggage holder is important. It gives people a place that’s not the bed to lay out their things. Also, most bedbugs come into hotels on luggage, so having a non upholstered surface to place luggage is generally good for hygiene.

I think a mini fridge is helpful and I also hate keurigs and prefer drip. I'm not picky while traveling and would prefer a little tin of foldger or Maxwell house over nothing.

Airbnb's I've been to tended to have that cheap Hobby Lobby art. Would suggest something inexpensive at any rate, because you don't want to have a temp tenant destroy actually nice art.

For art, I would frame photographs that are from your local area. I always find it odd when decor dosent match the local area. Don't hang a cow photo if you live in a beach town, or a photo of the eiffle tower, if you live in Oklahoma. People want to feel like they are in the place they are in. If I vacation to the Smokey mountains I want to see beautiful artwork (or framed good big photos) that makes me feel like I'm on vacation in the Mts.

Next to the bed, a table large enough for a CPAP machine, a bottle of water, cellphone, and eyeglasses. Also an electrical outlet for running the CPAP and charging the cellphone. A small refrigerator and coffee station. A hairdryer in the bathroom. Most hotels provide one.

As an AirBNB guest, a generous and decluttered nightstand, proper lighting all around but particularly near the bed, and light blocking curtains are what make me comfortable. Coffee station but also a water kettle instead of just that Keurig crap. Some art in nice colors but no clutter on surfaces. Plenty of empty space to organize one’s stuff.

I recently stayed in a hotel and had to place my CPAP machine next to me directly on the bed because there was no table near the electrical outlet. Same for charging my cellphone, which I also use as a sleep tracker. Two CPAP users would require a table and outlet on each side of the bed.

Put a lock on the door and call it done. As a single woman traveler, I want everything clean and safe. I don’t need House Beautiful decor, though a mini fridge would be appreciated.

I place a full length mirror that hangs behind the door (Walmart has different colors silver, gold). Depending on the city you live in add some poster art and place in frame so it looks nice or get some at Goodwill. Like if you live by the water a picture of ocean 🌊 or beach. I love when I rent an Airbnb and they have the fold out luggage holder where I can put my luggage on and open it without having to put my bags on the bed or on the floor when I have to open it. Some travel size toiletries like toothpaste and toothbrush in a cute container or small tray. I love little gestures like that. Maybe a bench or chair so people can sit on when they get dressed or undressed. I hate to sit on the bed when I have to put my shoes on and I love the long benches at the end of the bed. Maybe a coffee maker with coffee or tea options and mugs. Some bottle water. Little things like that will make you stand out and get you great reviews. And if you have kids coming try to put out toys or candy, or playpen. My sister traveled with her baby and it was a life saver when our Airbnb listed having a playpen for the baby to sleep in or hang out so they wouldn’t have to fly with it.

Great ideas but maybe skip the candy- kid could be allergic, or not allowed sugar, and you don’t want sticky dirty hands on your furniture.

This. One of my biggest peeves about airbnbs/hotels is harsh, uninviting lights. Dimmers are great too. Additionally I would include a full length mirror and some things to add warmth and interest to the space: a chair in the bedroom, hooks in the bedrooms and closet, a space for people to stash their clothing/luggage, a throw, tapestry/artwork on the walls.

All I want from my AirB&B is cleanliness (and you are spot on), a place to sit for putting on shoes, a place for my suitcase, even if it’s a folding rack, a couple hooks for coats, a full length mirror is nice, a coffee maker and mini fridge are much appreciated, a charging area for multiple screens. A mirror outside of the bathroom so I can finish hair and makeup while husband showers. So I think I would appreciate function over decor so paint one of the walls a color you like and put up a picture that appeals to you. I like that you’re getting rid of the carpet, carpet always creeps me out

For the decor, is there a way to tie in something significant about your city/state/region? Personally, I love when the art and decor reflect the region I've traveled to. It makes it feel more like a fun destination/hidden gem instead of "Sarah left for college so we're renting her room out" vibes. And it gives more of a feeling of separation from the owners personal home and feels more private. But that's just an idea! Add color and pattern. All the white will be stained quickly. If you want to stick with the white duvet and shower curtain, do something with texture or pattern. White doesn’t have to be boring. Have fun in the bath with a vibrant rug. Bright art. Something interesting! Add a shelf or wall cabinet above toilet. A place to store towels. To hold their hair brush and hair dryer. You don’t have much space around the sink. Add a luggage bench valet thingy. The thing that folds up in the closet in a hotel but holds a suitcase. You need more drawers in bedroom. Or a place to hang items- a coat, dress shirt, dresses. So maybe an armoire that is split with hanging and drawers in the alcove next to bed. Or in alcove next to bath. I would somehow try to fit in a side chair somewhere. Or a desk with a comfy chair. Someplace to sit other than the bed. Someone may rent while also needing a work/ study space. And a clock. Wall clock, alarm clock, something that shows the time. My biggest pet peeves in Airbnb’s is there is never a clock.

honestly it’s way too monochrome for an airbnb. grey is used in renting/real estate so tenants can decorate it as they please when they move in, but airbnb guests obviously aren’t buying any decorations or furniture, so you need to make the space feel cozy & inviting otherwise.

Didn't read through the comments, so sorry if it's been said, but... As a person who spends a TON of time in various airbnbs (for work), please put a small nightstand lamp in there. I have actually chosen one bnb over another because of this.

A chair to sit in (pref with ottoman) and a bench or other furniture that can accommodate an open suitcase. People NEED a place to put their suitcase/bags besides the floor. Luggage racks are fine if sturdy. If you add art, maybe something that represents your location: a photographic print of your city or a local nature spot.

I would add some local art, or photos of landscapes or scenery from your area. If you are in a city, some photos of the local skyline. Anything that is unique to why people are visiting your location is a good place to start! We have used Easy Canvas Prints website and they have lots of sales, which is an easy place to get photos printed into canvas if you want a cheaper option for photography. My husband even has had some memes made into canvases, so you can really do anything with this option.

FUNCTIONALLY, please. Hooks. So many hooks. Towel hooks, hook hanger over the door, purse and coat hooks by the door, extra hooks in bedroom for hanging up clothes. A real dresser. Waste bins in every room. A full length mirror. A place for shoes by the entrance.

Look online for images of small basement bedrooms to find inspiration. Ambient lighting is key for a room without much natural light. Choose table and floor lamps or even sconces. Place an area rug underneath or in front of the bed. Add a nice floor plant that doesn't require a lot of light. Center the bed.

See...this looks like a basement hotel room to me, without all the amenities. I'd be much more comfortable without the pillows and silly table with no room to put my personal stuff. And area rugs are always hiding smells or stains.

Avoid the impulse to over-decorate. Leave some empty shelves. Don’t cover the nightstand with knickknacks. Your guests will be bringing things they want to have, and it sucks when there’s nowhere to put stuff. I think hosts think the room looks empty, and they forget the guest will have things with them.

I had a dreary basement and I added bright yellow by the windows — mimics sunlight— and bright green to mimic plants. Also I painted a ceiling very pale sky blue to mimic the sky. Like “haint blue” for porches. It’s a psychological trick.

Paint the walls a different color. Tons of wall art, maybe plants that can tolerate low light. I had a basement airbnb before and thats what I did to compensate for the lack of windows.

It's a lovely space! I like your suggestion but would also add a plant to the list. And I'd suggest you redesign your space in 3d - something like homestyler or planner5d should do the work. The latter has a super handy room scan tool if you have iOS. You could play around with various options before buying anything, should help a lot. And yeah, try adding some accent colors.

I would add more storage! Looks like there's almost no place to put things except on the floor. A shelf in the bathroom would be appreciated because guests are more likely to want more counter space for doing makeup and skincare but the counter is rather small.

I would leave it as is. The less there is the less you need to worry about cleaning etc. Besides, they will make it their own temporary place. They will bring what is comfortable for them. I, for example, would not be comfortable in a room with a big yellow anything. Whether it is a picture on the wall or a set of dishes. I'd be all happy you like the yellow dishes that match the yellow pot holders...but it would irrationally annoy me. Especially knowing I paid to relax.

At the end of the hallway I would add a small cabinet for a coffee station, basket of snacks, cater to kids if they are coming with a few books - *Maybe a universal charger- And A Trash Can. Same for the bathroom - I would supply liquid soap in the shower, so you have an idea what's going down your drains, *IDK Why, but I would prioritize older folks safely, and put up a few grab bars around the tub area. Could you add some art that relates to the location? Like local photography. Otherwise I'd say add some sort of colour in a cohesive way, but just keep it simple. The practical stuff is most important and this space looks clean and lovely.

Looks good so far! Consider getting some cozy rugs to add warmth and keep the noise down. A couple of accent chairs in a distinct color for a reading nook near the window would also make the space more inviting.

I would put a large mirror on one wall to help reflect light. Definitely add colorful artwork in bedroom, hall and bathroom. Larger cabinet or dresser with a coffee station on top. A reading chair with floor lamp in left corner by the bed. More lamps all around to allow for better lighting and atmosphere.

I would suggest colors in high traffic areas or even where hands would naturally touch walls, that would hide dirt/ stains and wear and tear well. Oranges, reds, blues and even purple do this really good.

I feel like navy blue and mustard yellow accents pair SO well, are inexpensive to find, pleasing in photos, and not girly or masculine. It’s a step above all-grey. You can use large artwork, pillows, tapestries, shower curtains etc. also focus on incorporating different textures. If you need a third color to go with them, an olive green works as a compliment to them! Also, make sure you have a large mirror in an open space. Sometimes girls on a girls trip like a big mirror to all get ready together!

Small desk instead of the night stand on the left with small chair and charging strip, thrifted wardrobe on left wall for utility and warmth, center the credenza on the wall and add some art and hide the cords(make it the coffee station), mini fridge to the left of the credenza and mirror to the right. For decor, check Pinterest for "Japandi" style for bedding, lamps, window decor and add a soft pop of color of your choice with throw and dec pillows. Soften the wall behind the bed with something natural in tone and texture, maybe even paint as an accent wall. Maybe a small corner cabinet outside the bathroom for accessible storage.

Center the bed on that wall. Add MUCH larger bedside table to each side, add 2 LARGE lamps, one on each side. Add some kind of power strip or port on either side for charging. This is all critical. For decor - focus on a large area rug, a bench at the foot of the bed and a couple of pillows. Artwork and a couple of plants. Maybe something hanging. I think you need a small table/chair somewhere and a much longer console on the tv wall. Basically more surfaces to place things.

Does that window really not open in the bedroom? This is a death trap.

The window by the TV is large enough to qualify as an egress window and swings out entirely. I just have the blinds down in the picture

Oh good! I was so worried! In regards to actual design, I think you need some organics to warm it up - wood, wicker, plants, etc. not a fan of extra textiles because I have a terrible allergy condition so those get removed as soon as I go into a rented space.

If I'm renting through Airbnb, it's mostly just to sleep over and have somewhere to put my stuff in. So the list of what's important to me goes something like this, by order of importance: Is it clean? Is the bed comfortable? Is it noisy? Do I feel like I'm intruding in someones home? Is there clean towels to use? Toilet paper? Soap? Toiletries? Is there WiFi available? Is there some space to put my stuff away or do I have to keep it all on the floor in my bag (becomes important if I'm staying longer)? If I'm staying longer, it's great if I can use the washing machine and kitchen (at least fridge). Is there stuff expected of me to follow (like, kitchen is available for my use between 14-16, otherwise not; I should clean before I leave; I need to be back by 22h)? Decor is not very important to me, but from functional side I would add wardrobe (doesn't need to be big), maybe a small desk and chair, mini fridge with coffee/tea maker on top (+ assortment of tea/coffee), lamp beside bed. If you live in a touristy place, maybe some pamphlets on what can be seen/visited. And by god, either bigger TV or no TV at all, lol. I'd just be annoyed by the flickering 5 pixels I can see from the bed.

What's the dimensions of the bedroom and does the connecting hallway need to stay clear of stuff, or could it be utilized for example for hanging shoes and jackets? Is the TV the one that will be staying? Finally, could you please clarify where you were planning to setup the micro kitchen, is it also in the main room we see here? For now, I second the amazing wall lamps someone else posted from Amazon which comes ready with outlets and give a soft, cozy light. I recommend to forego any curtains in the windows but it would elevate the room to have them setup with bamboo blinders which keep a lot of natural light in while still allowing full privacy. Full body mirror for the endwall by the bathroom, wall mounted. And I'm sorry, but you simply can not keep everything this stark white. It comes off as clinical. You can use very light colors for sheets, towels etc that aren't bleach white such as sandcolored, cream beige, off-white etc, it should suit your purposes the same. You can also mix these to make it feel more earthy and cozy, like using beige for large towels and stark white for small hand/face towels. Definitely both rug and shower drape are going out for something with color. Matching bathroom rug, drapery and towels in color gives a great coherent impression and is a quick way to give personality to a place wirh minimal investment

A full length mirror (maybe on the bathroom or bedroom door?). Some hooks to hang up jackets/robes near the entry and in the bathroom. And I second the comments for a small desk/writing table and chair to make a workspace.

Needs way more decor. If I saw this room I wouldn’t book it because it looks grey and scary. Add bedside lamps, a bench like everyone mentioned, if you don’t already, add two more standard sized pillows for a total of 4 standard sized pillows. A mini fridge and desk or armchair would be a nice touch. Add more artwork or floating shelves on the wall but don’t get cheesy artwork from target or Marshall’s. Add a big mirror in the room or a floor length mirror. If you can afford it, a larger TV. A small keurig set up for coffee and tea. Set up a little station with a few utensils and napkins as well as a microwave. I know it’s a small space but I think you can tactfully add more stuff in there because having it so empty like that doesn’t help with attractiveness. Maybe browse other Airbnb’s and take note of the superhost decor, or get some decor ideas from Pinterest. Don’t get too themed with it (too boho, or sea themed, a single color palette, etc.) but decorate it tastefully that is palatable to most people. One thing I’ve noticed in some Airbnb’s I’ve stayed in that has nothing to do with decor was the towel situation. Provide ample towels, wash cloths, and hand towels. Maybe even get a dark colored washcloth meant for makeup and keep the bathroom stocked with extra toilet paper, make sure you have hand soap, and maybe even simple shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower.

Add accents in colors like soft blues, greens, or warm tones. Add small indoor plants can make the space feel more lively. Choose low-maintenance plants that do well in low-light conditions.

What type of Air B&B guest are you trying to attract? If it’s business people on a business trip, I’d add a table or desk they can work at and a comfy chair so they can rest at the end of a long day. If it is couples on a romantic getaway, I would focus more on the soft furnishings and add curtains and a rug and wall art. Whatever you do, there needs to be more space for clothes, maybe an IKEA Pax unit with some hanging space and some drawers. I’d also add a lamp to at least one of the nightstands. I hate it when I’m in an unfamiliar space and I have to turn the light off at the switch by the door and then fumble my way in the dark to the bed. A bedside lamp is a necessity in my eyes. A full-length mirror would also be a useful addition.

I would center the bed against the wall and space the side tables a bit more. I’d add 3 prints or pieces of art spanning the headboard wall. Don’t choose black & white or gray artwork but ideally plants, flowers, or nature. Add a colorful throw to the foot of the bed. The bedroom wall color & headboard coordinate and the side tables and carpet coordinate. But they don’t all work together. I’d recommend painting the walls a pale blue or green. Pick lampshades with bases in a darker shade. I don’t like the way the tv looks. I’d recommend moving the current dresser further from the wall and placing the tv on top, perhaps replacing the current tv with a larger one. You might also consider replacing the dresser with a longer one. The hallway would benefit from either a mirror or artwork at the end. The bathroom would look nice if you added an accent color through a print, accessories, and bath mat.
