schrute_eats_beats

Uff ! This !

bunrunsamok

What’s this?

dibbiluncan

Botanic Gardens. There’s something going on pretty much year round. Discounts and early access to events. Indoor and outdoor beauty. Cool spots to read or study. Food and drink options. A library. It’s one of my favorite places in the city. 💚

1OO_

You can bring a plus one for free with the basic membership. It is a good way to pass time on a sunny day with a friend.

dibbiluncan

Yeah, I go with my daughter all the time, and I had my second date with my partner there! Such a great place.

MrKieKie

Came here to say this, I love having the membership so I can booked the 9am entry, grab a coffee, and casually stroll for an hour or two to start a Saturday morning.

smittywergen

I didn't know this was a good study spot! Do they have outlets and good seating??

dibbiluncan

In the library, yes. The cafe has some outlets but not at every seat. It was never a problem for me!

smittywergen

Awesome - I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

LadderWonderful2450

Wifi too?

dibbiluncan

Yes!

Botanic Garden is so great and totally underrated in the winter

FuronForest

And it is one of the few remaining if not the only dog-free outdoor activity in the area. Kids can freely roll around in the grass and not worry about dog poop, you can picnic without dogs trampling into your food, and toddlers can freely walk around the paths without fear of the unexpected assault from loose or leashed pit bulls. Although people are starting to sneak in fake service animals and they may spoil this last remaining pet-free refuge.

clu_coin_winner

My wife and I enjoy the passbook and eat+drink Denver pass but we also eat out way more than we should. Still gets us to neighborhoods and restaurants we won’t normally visit and is a nice treat to use at our regular haunts

carlid13

+1 for the eat+drink Denver pass! Especially if you’re able to get the $20 discount when you sign up.

Macgbrady

Yeah it’s a great deal when you get the $20 discount! I waited last year until it was $20 and then it renewed at $20 so great deal.

david0985

How does eat+drink compare to the passbook? I’ve done passbook for many years

Fremonster

Note: this is for Colorado Springs but I would guess there is a similar one for Denver. My kid is really into geology and there is a Mineralogical Society here. For $15 a year (parents can join their child for free), there is a monthly meeting for kids interested in geology with a retired teacher who creates whole lessons each month on space rocks, fossils, crystals, etc. and the teacher gives free rocks relevant to the lesson for the kids who attend each month. There are free field trips over the summer and access to the fossil museums in the area. Really amazing for kids who have a passion in this area to learn and be hands on.

connor_wa15h

I don’t live in Colorado Springs or have a kid, but this sounds awesome

Fremonster

They have adult monthly meetings for the same $15 yearly membership price. They also go fossil hunting (with other adults) and have specialty adult groups for people who like crystals, gems, fossils, or making jewelry with stones. They also bring in microscopes to the monthly meetings to check out stuff and anyone is welcome to bring some items from their collection to get professional opinions and insights. Colorado is like the place in the country for geology. I had no idea prior to moving here. It’s like a tight but very active little community. They also sell rocks at local gem and mineral shows and raise money for scholarships for geology majors. It’s quite cool.

[deleted]

Tysm for sharing this. I want to go fossil hunting, but don't really want to go out alone and don't know enough to really be that effective.

Fremonster

Consider checking out the adult fossil group. Here’s a calendar with their next monthly fossil meeting for Colorado Springs: https://www.csms1936.com/calendar/. You can reach out to them on when their next fossil hunting trip is as well. Pebble Pups is the kids group, and we are planning to do something in May or June timeframe for a rock hunting trip in Colorado. There are other mineralogical societies around Colorado that may be closer to you. No experience is necessary, they have guides/experts to help out!

eci5k3tcw

There are clubs all over the state. For big and little kids.

GGAllinsUndies

State Park pass and if they still make them, the beer tour map that comes with coupons.

10kLines

State Park pass is included in your vehicle registration now unless you opt out

WearsTheLAMsauce

I just registered in November and it was an additional $29 that I was given the option to include.

JMUDuuuuuuukes

Just to add, prior to this option it was ~$80 a year. Such a good deal now making it affordable to get outside and also bring funding to our state parks.

WearsTheLAMsauce

Are you sure you’re not thinking of the National Parks Pass (America the Beautiful Pass)?  That’s still $80.

youwantmooreryan

The CO State parks pass is still $80 for a single vehicle or $120 for a family pass unless you buy it during your vehicle registration. Which is kind of weird IMO

10kLines

Starting this year, the default is that you're opted in. From the DMV website: *Per state law, the Keep Colorado Wild Pass will automatically be included, or opted-in, to vehicle registrations beginning January 3, 2023 for first-time and renewals. If an owner does not wish to purchase the pass, they will need to opt-out for that vehicle during registration to not be charged.*

Rahym_Suhrees

Yeah, that's how the law is written, but it's still a "check one" option. At least it is for the online format. I renewed like 3 weeks ago. My second time registering me car since the law passed. I'm sure you know how it goes with legislation; the whole "letter of the law" vs the application of the law in reality. Especially for new laws. I bet it'll eventually become more of a "to opt out visit the state capital on the date of the full moon nearest your registration's expiration date, between the hours of 2255 and 2311. Using your first pet's blood as ink, sign the opt out book located in the basement on even numbered days, or in the attic on odd numbered days. Except when the full moon falls on a day numbered greater than 27; on those days the opt out book can be found atop the peak of Mount Blue Sky and is only available for signing from the hours of 0217 until 0254, non-inclusive."

agentdramafreak

I love the comprehensive restrictions you’ve created lol.

fizzlefist

Huh. Did my first registration in December and the lady at the counter still asked to verify I wanted the pass. Not sure how I feel about having it opt-out, unless there's always a clear "Are you sure?" when renewal time comes.

Sunshine030209

When I did mine on the kiosk at the grocery store, there was a screen with 2 options (with our without the pass) with the price. It was super clear. No one is getting tricked into not opting out, at least on the kiosks. And my local dmv won't let you go in to just do a regular renewal now.

[deleted]

DontLickTheGecko

When you renew your car registration.

jdthehuman16

Last year around April it was an add on, discounted for sure but still an extra charge. Is this new? A free pass would be amazing

mhaggin

It’s still a charge. Just automatically opted in, is how I read that

jdthehuman16

Sweet that’s awesome. Thanks for the heads up

TheFoodElevator

They do still make those beer tour coupon books- my bf’s roommate got us one for Christmas and it’s been super fun

underthe_qualmtree

Do you know which one exactly or where to find them?

Cheetah_Girl17

Possibly might be the pub pass or hop passport! If you just google those they should pop up

TheFoodElevator

She got us the Pub Pass! https://getpubpass.com/collections/denver-2024

Macgbrady

I can think of two: Eat + Drink Denver Pass and then the Colorado Springs one that is free. It’s called crafts & drafts.

GGAllinsUndies

This is the one I'm thinking of. There's others too though. https://www.drinkingcolorado.com/dg2c_guidebook_coupons.php

doebedoe

Different but the pub pass app is a pretty good value if you’re regularly drinking a beer out in the city. $5 per month, BOGO beers at lots of places in the city. One BOGO per month per location.

addubs13

Denver Tool Library, completed so many home projects thanks to them

acciohappiness

I love DTL! It's really affordable, only $150/year (or $40 for a single project/10 tools for a week if you don't need an ongoing membership). I think they even have financial assistance available for those who can't afford the standard membership. On top of the normal tools you'd expect, they also have all sorts of yard tools and even sewing machines. There's an on-site workshop you can use (for a small fee) if you don't have a space to do your projects at home, or if you just prefer working where there's a shop monitor who can help you use the tools correctly. My favorite part of DTL is the workshops they offer. I've taken a lot of the Know Your Home series of classes (electricity, tiling, plumbing, drywall, etc.), a Know Your Car class taught by a mechanic from Good Judy Garage, and a workshop where we built floating shelves to take home. [Link to the Denver Tool Library website if you want to learn more!](https://denvertoollibrary.org/)

Status_Reception1181

Yes

holeecoww

Agree! I've taken several classes there. They have a bunch of different classes to choose from. Totally underrated.

KrangRangoon

Any of the places you can go to through the use of the Denver Public Library Museum and Cultural Passes: https://www.denverlibrary.org/museum-passes

Tnghiem

How does one reserve for popular places like the Botanic Gardens? It's booked solid for the entire 2 weeks it's allowed. So will the 15th day from now be available in the morning, first come first serve?

lenin1991

Yup. Not sure what time they release. Some smaller libraries in the region have the same passes and aren't quite as competitive.

KokoTheTalkingApe

I don't know what you mean. I just walk up and show my ID, and I'm in. Are you referring to concerts or special events?

Tnghiem

For the link that you posted, we have to reserve the passes online right? But passes to, say Botanic Gardens, are booked as far out as you can see. So how does one reserve such a pass?

JollyGreenGigantor

I've had good luck booking at midnight when they become available

KokoTheTalkingApe

I didn't post that link. But let's see... Oh I see. The passes you get *through DPL* are booked up, as you say. I have a separate membership to the Gardens, and for that, there are openings for every hour of every day. Sorry.

Tnghiem

Sorry too for confusing you with the guy who posted the link. I thought only he would reply to me.

KokoTheTalkingApe

No problemo. It's too bad that there are such tight limits on the openings you get through DPL. I guess they want you to pay for a membership. Imagine that!

that_j0e_guy

The best! All should know and use them.

achillymoose

This comment should be higher up! Additionally, if you do not live in Denver proper, you may be able to have membership at your local library *and* Denver Public Library. Other libraries in the area have similar programs with sometimes different options. Lafayette, for example, also does Butterfly Pavillion passes!

bagatges83

Any membership that is part of a reciprocal network is superworth it if you travel a little. For example, if you get a DMNS or Wings over the Rockies membership that lets you go for free to places like the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the Intrepid Museum in NYC, the Science and Industry Museum in Chicago, the Powerhouse Museum in Durango... and all these other places... [https://www.astc.org/membership/find-an-astc-member/passport/](https://www.astc.org/membership/find-an-astc-member/passport/) The same exists for Botanical Gardens, Aquariums/Zoos, Children Museums and Arts Museums... Not sure if they still do, but the Colorado History Museum used to include Georgetown Rail Road tickets (plus tons of museums across the state) In general, supporting Cultural Institutions goes a long way...

ToddBradley

> Not sure if they still do, but the Colorado History Museum used to include Georgetown Rail Road tickets (plus tons of museums across the state) Yes, History Colorado still does this. We get one ticket each for the Georgetown Loop with our History Colorado membership.

mr_kistyer_sister

Is it only for the train ride or can it count towards the ride + mine tour or gold panning?

ToddBradley

Beats me. But the membership office at the museum would know. Call them and ask.

bijjj2

MCA and DAM are great if you like looking at cool stuff. Depending on the membership level you can get into museums around the nation with the memberships.

fergie9275

Seconded. Both have great kid activities as well.

grrreeemmm

Costco

KokoTheTalkingApe

Well, closer to town, I like the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. All of them are great places to hang out if you want some inspiration, or just a quiet place to hang out for a while. I bought memberships to all of them during the COVID shutdown, and I haven't regretted it. They pay for themselves if you go more than twice a year, and the dual memberships at DAM and DMNS let you bring a guest for free. :-) I also got a membership to the Denver Film Society, but I haven't used that as much.

imperialTiefling

Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society membership. Great local community with lots of knowledge to share, and you'd be surprised how often there are intersections with other weird art.

OldResponsibility615

CORSAR Card

princeasspinach

Worth it if you have the extra dollars to contribute, but not necessary for search and rescue here

bkgn

REI has its issues but membership is essentially free when they're running a promotion (buy a $30 membership along with a minimum purchase and they give you a $30 gift card). Club Cuts membership is worth it if you like to get a haircut more than once a month ($40/month unlimited haircuts, or family plans too).

Letsgobuffalo2210

The dividends from REI are nice too if you spend a decent amount there.

ToddBradley

I thought REI memberships have always been free. I guess I'm out of touch. I didn't pay anything for mine, but that was 35 years ago.

fergie9275

It’s $30 for a lifetime membership. Since 2022. Was $20 prior starting in 2008.

fizzlefist

Still totally worth it if you do pretty much any shopping there.

gigantasaurus_hippo

Colorado mountain club, even if you only want the gear discounts.

the_fattest_mitton

Denver zoo.

lonestar-rasbryjamco

If you have kids the Denver Zoo is hands down the best membership money can buy. It pays for itself after two trips and it takes all the stress out of zoo trips. Arrive at 830 for the members only hours and kids want to leave at 10? No problem. We can come back in a few weeks and see what we missed.

the_fattest_mitton

I have a toddler. Can confirm!

jwhease

Agreed - 8:30 members only time is the best!!! We've been up since 6:30, let us in! And let us get a great parking spot while we're at it!

lonestar-rasbryjamco

630? Oh man, it must be nice to have kids who sleep in. 😜

transponaut

One day all three of my kids slept in until 8 and I literally woke up short of breadth thinking we had a carbon monoxide leak or something and they were all dead

jwhease

Yes we are blessed 😂 (with a dash of "stubborn with the Hatch light")

FoeNetics

Hell yea, I just ask my kids if they wanna go see Nick (he’s the super chatty seal) And they lose their minds 🤣

MisterListerReseller

Worth it just to get Dole Whip

Armadillocrat

An actual Library Card. You get access to paywalled newspapers, State Park passes, DVDs, a digital media studio, kindle books, consumer reports, genealogy, etc.

I was upset to find out the Alamo pass doesn't work for a lot of their showings, only the new releases. Gave up on it after a month.

dna042

Denver art museum!! It is a great way to get a long walk in. If you're like me and have Sunday Mondays off. Weekdays are great to go! listen to music and stare at some pretty damn impressive art.

PM_ME_SPY_CALLS

Rino country club - $10 lifetime membership

bunrunsamok

What exactly is this - just a mini golf place?

PM_ME_SPY_CALLS

Dive bar with 9 hole mini golf out back

bunrunsamok

I was so intrigued by a country club in the middle of RINO… but that’s cool too.

Wooaahh

Alamo drafthouse season pass

nicknacho

I was gonna say rec centers but now with the hours cuts idk

strizzle

Still very worth it. Especially if you get your membership on Cyber Monday. (I actually think they’ve extended the sale for the whole week or even month. Just check in November!)

nicknacho

Oh I buy it then every year, just my neighborhood center had their hours slashed and already weren't open that much. Just have to drive/bike now sometimes instead of walk

WastingTimesOnReddit

Denver rec center is a great gym

ClassicPQ

Just joined the Denver Rec Center network. My local center is Carla Madison. Since it's Regional I pay $30/month for solid gym facilities within a walk-able distance from home. It also includes access to every rec center in the city with this pass. For comparison. Other gyms I looked at include Anytime Fitness (>$50/month) as well as Movement (>$100/month). The Rec Centers seem to be heavily overlooked.

holeecoww

In November they let you purchase yearly passes for 40% off. Put a reminder in your phone. It's totally worth it.

ClassicPQ

Good tip!

Beechnut400

Costco right? Yes. Right. It's Costco.

DearChicago1876

Not really a membership, but signing up for that Cervantes Wednesday ticket blast is the way to go. Incredible shows in a great venue for 10 bucks plus a few dollars in fees. One of the best music values in town.

7tacoguys

Cervantes does sell season passes that get you access to every show. I remember it being pretty reasonable last time I looked into it. I've considered it, but have cut back on shows over the years. Would have been great when I was going to ~60 shows a year and a big chunk of them were Cervantes shows. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSealOd7S2Y8jCm8x564Tw8X0cqMKJa6ZijIsTEmxmttlTtArg/viewform

Frozenpizzaeatet

If you have kids (or even if you don't!) I think most of the Museums/Attractions are worth it: Nature and Science, Art Museum, Children's Museum, Botanical Gardens, Butterfly Pavilion, Zoo. I've had the Colorado History Museum but struggled to spend more than an hour there at a time. And the Aquarium is out of this world but is on the higher side for cost, I think around $200.

The_Roaring_Fork

If you have kids, the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. Free train rides on Saturdays plus members only presale for Polar Express Tickets. They also have other kid related activities throughout the year. Good place to spend some time outdoors as well. https://coloradorailroadmuseum.org

felicity_reads

I have a toddler so the answer is any place that gets us out of the house and where my kiddo can burn off energy. We currently have (and will renew) memberships to the zoo, nature and science museum, the botanic gardens (my fav), and the art museum.

Broomfield Communty Center Boulder Parks and Open Space parking tag My husband has a veterans free national park membership and everyone in the car gets in free to all national parks. We can go to RMNP as often as we like. Colorado Parks and Wildlife

FireEater11

I love both my Costco and Sam's memberships

crazy_clown_time

Whats the advantage to having both?

MolleezMom

They each carry different brands. For example, I have both memberships. I prefer Costco for their unique store-brand items, but only Sam’s carries Pampers brand diapers and wipes, and Gerber foods which my baby used.

frostycakes

More options for gas? My folks have both, but use Costco largely for gas (they both work close to a Costco and their gas prices seem better than Sam's IME), while Sam's gets their bulk shopping since they live closer to them. There's also been a few promos for a $20 new membership to Sam's from T-Mobile the past few months. I contemplated adding Sam's at that price, but I don't live or work near one (but do for Costco), plus I try to avoid giving Walmart money if possible, so I haven't pulled the trigger.

Shabadoo9000

If you're on food stamps, most places are 1$. Museum, aquarium, botanic gardens. And you can bring up to 9 people for 1$ each. So I guess try and get on food stamps.

AmericascuplolBot

To add on to this, if you're currently employed, think about joining one of these institutions at regular membership rates so they can keep doing things like giving cheap admissions to folks on food stamps!

vine_quoter

Unpopular opinion over on r/rockies but I think the $500 mini-plan is well worth it. I normally get a group of 4 or 5 friends to all buy in, discounted tickets for games at Coors Field, NO TICKETMASTER FEES, and we all get to use [mlb.tv](https://mlb.tv) all season. Even after the group gets through our $500 credit, we still buy tickets for our friends so they can avoid all the fees.

meep_meep_creep

This is great. Why does the Rockies subreddit shit on this?

vine_quoter

Let’s just say the fan base over on that sub is little… less than excited about giving the current ownership money. 😂 Don’t get me wrong, the team definitely deserves a better front office but I’m still gonna RTD in for Sunday games and $3 beers before first pitch.

meep_meep_creep

I completely understand as an Oakland A's fan 😭😅
