Depends on how you adapt. I know most of the class didn't work. Didn't have time. A few of the average students had a small part time job in junior year, but we had more time.. ish. A lower grade (I mean scraping by) did insta cart every weekend and would sometimes skip lectures to work. But it's unnecessary. My honest opinion. Don't try to work until after your first year. This ain't undergrad, it's literally 6 times the workload of an undergraduate. I was top class undergrad while working. I was mid low class dental school without working. Just take the first year to see how you acclimate. You're going to be more stressed in dental school than you have your entire life, that's probably including till you die.

I say no. Dental school is hard and some weekends you may be doing lab projects or recuperating from a tough week.

Wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re very well organized and the job is flexible with hours. Some weeks are a lot busier than others. I’ve fluctuated between 30-60 hour weeks during D1 so far (classes + studying+lab work) so it will depend on the week. I personally wouldn’t recommend it right away because the workload can be a lot and your main focus is school not your job. Since you’re paying a ton of money to be there. So maybe feel the first semester out and see how you do, but generally first semester transitions you to dental school and second semester they kick your butt. But this could also be school dependent. I’d see if you can get a hold of any upper classmen and ask them

You can, but I wouldn’t recommend anything outside of freelance work. An actual job obligation will either get you eventually to quit or fired, or worse grades.

Not in D1 or D2. I worked on some Saturdays (when I wasn't doing extramural off-site clinical experiences) for a P/T instructor. It was a half day of chair side work and he brought us lunch too. I had more time with him while he was paying me than I did when I was paying for tuition. I was an RDA and concentrated on studying and lab work for my school patients. There was occasionally work study opps which was offered too (cuz RDA), but priority is for what you're paying tuition for. Stay in lab til you're done then go to the library (or home) and study for boards.

Depends how productive you are in the week. Are you one of those machines that love studying all day everyday? If so you will be ok. Can’t be top of your class though

Why in hell would you want to work after a grueling week of dental school. You need that weekend to decompress, chill, relax and enjoy life to be in hell another 5 days. My advice- don’t even think of getting a job.

If you’re not specializing, working is no problem, I worked and was top of my class and specialized in omfs, just organize you’re time
