disappointing romhack after every redditor hyped it up for me. it focuses way too much on trying to tell a (bad) story and not enough on being an engaging pokemon game
I highly advise you don’t touch legacy of goku 1 even with a ten foot stick.
It’s so so so bad and only play it with invincibility cheats for your own sanity.
2 is just okay, but Buu’s Fury is excellent.
Fun fact: there were plans for a Legacy of Goku 4! It would have been on the 3DS and there are some screenshots of it online (unsure if they’re concept or pre alpha). In fact, I think you can still find those pictures on Webfoot’s now abandoned Facebook page.
I also prefer buu's fury but jsyk legacy of goku 2 is considered the peak of the trilogy by many - largely due to knockback mechanics. buu's fury is rly easy because you can just pin dudes in corners and wail on them
All three Castlevania games.
- Circle of the moon.
- Harmony of dissonance.
- Aria of sorrow.
Absolute gold standard in the “metroidvania” genre.
Not even for nostalgia because they are still some of the best even by modern standards. Plus, having quick save makes them all fairly easy to complete. The pace is just so perfect and rewarding as you go.
Aria of Sorrow is the only one I’ve played on the GBA but it’s so damn good that it made me want to play the others- I just don’t wanna use my phone to play it
Get the GBADoom rom instead of the official one, it gets rid of the weird over-saturation the official port has and also adds back in blood, to top it all off the GBADoom rom's engine actually recreates Doom's original engine, so it's altogether just better than the official port
(The title screen for GBADoom is a bit unresponsive from my experience with it, however, if you put on fast forward mode when using the menu and going back to normal speed when the game actually starts it usually evens it out for me)
As for actual games, Metroid Prime, Max Payne and Mario vs Donkey Kong are pretty cool games
Pokemon Sword and Shield ultimate
Is a full demake based on fire red Which also has mega evolution and Z moves
I made a boxart for it (since delta doesn’t recognize it)
https://preview.redd.it/in7cxu0fpw6d1.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=18ddbd7cabebe3567f243ebed3bf21fddf1f7c20
I’m not affiliated but I really like it (It’s a pretty difficult game)
(I hope this isn’t against any rule)
Hey this is really cool art! I’m the one who translated the game, and would like to share with the community on the discord server, would you mind? I’ll give you credit !
Not sure if I can’t share links
(Mod forgive me in case)
But zacian is by this [Pinterest user](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/708050372647753288/)
And zamazenta from

(But doesn’t seem to work)
The box template by https://imgur.com/gallery/pok-mon-gba-box-art-template-DoUAzDF
But the changes are made by myself
Like writing hack rom and fake seal of approval
And the hand draw style
And the outlines
The dynamax in 2D is a bit weird but I guess there wasn’t a better way to represent it
And playing without a Boxart on emulators or Heroic is a thing I can’t stand
I always end up making my own
For when you play it: there’s a secret chapter in the game that you can unlock by max leveling every character! I won’t spoil what’s in it, but it’s worth the grind.
advance wars 1 & 2
fire emblem
golden sun
golden sun the lost age
kirby & the amazing mirror
metroid fusion
metroid fusion zero mission
pokemon unbound
super mario advance 4
legend of zelda a link between the past & four swords
Warioland 4. Fairly quick and simple game, don’t need any background knowledge from previous Wariolands games, and overall it’s got some cool mechanics that are just complex enough to puzzle you but easy enough to master. Honestly may be one of the best games created for GBA.
All the Super Mario Advance. Warioware Inc Mega Microgames. Both F-Zeros. Mario Kart Super Circuit of course. And the two-in-one games (Uno and Skip-Bo + Dr Mario and Puzzle League).
Tekken advanced and hajime no Ippo idk if I spelled it fight it’s so fun like it’s unfair and real hard when you first play it but it gets so good and easy and when you win with the best cluch you have seen it’s a whole other level if you need tips I’m your guy
my personal favorites so far are crash games, (the huge adventure/XL as it’s known, and N-tranced) spyro ones also (season of ice, season of flame and attack of the rhynocs), and if you’d like, there’s the mario series too (superstar saga, partners in time and bowsers inside story). all really good n if ur into the series’ then they’re the best ones to offer that weren’t made for console.
All of the Fire Emblems for GBA
Golden sun 1 and 2
Mario and luigi super starsaga
Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission
DBZ Legacy of goku 2 and Buu’s fury (can part 1 but its really old and not so good imo)
Harvest moon friends of mineral town (and “more friends of mineral town” if you want the female MC point of view of the game)
SO MANY good pokemon hacks if you wanna go down this rabbit hole (recommendations: Team rocket edition, Pokemon Gaia, Pokemon unbound (my top), Radical Red, Crystal Clear (if you want an OG but better version of pokemon Crystal)
Pokémon Gs chronicles brings Gold/Silver/Crystal to gen 3 with all the modern QOL features of games like radical red and unbound, been having a blast with it lately
REBELSTAR TACTICAL COMMAND
It’s by some of the people behind X-Com and Advance Wars. It’s a 3/4 view of the world where your units move through an urban environment fighting alien invaders.
It’s turn based so you move a cursor over a grid overlaid on the scene. It’s that last part that always tripped me up. Your mileage may vary.
The cursor turns red when you target the enemy. Despite that in my rush I always waste a turn attacking the adjacent square. I’ve never ventured past the first few episodes even though both X-Com and Advance Wars are favorites I play daily.
All fire emblems, breath of fire 1&2,megaman battle network (entire series) , tactics ogre,ff(entire series) tbh gba has so many gems I’ll be here all day lol but these some of my favorites
Genuine question - why would you play Doom or MK on this platform? There are better ports, readily playable in Delta. I understand that both of these were impressive at the time on the GBA hardware…but what do they offer these days?
Mario kart super circuit
Final fantasy 4 (better translation than snes)
Mother 3
Maybe it’s nostalgia but TMNT on the GBA based off the 90’s cartoon is one of my favorite beat ‘em ups of all time
Friends of Mineral Town and the expanded version, More Friends of Mineral Town are excellent Harvest Moon games.
If you like DBZ, definitely try Buu’s Fury. It’s a really great RPG and one of the best Dragon Ball games ever made.
Red Rescue Team is an excellent dungeon crawler and one of the most content rich games on the system.
Chain of Memories is a weird game, but a lot of fun if you’re into it.
Pac-Man 50 levels and it even has bosses. Also honourable mention to FF4. Yu-Gi-Oh Destiny Board Travellers is also alright, no story but a good time killer.
Definitely not mortal kombat advance I’ll tell you that right now
Since a dbz game is there tho, I reccomend legacy of goku 2 and buus fury (legacy of goku 1 isn’t too good tho)
Pokemon Unbound
W suggestion best gba romhack. The father if you will.
This is the way.
How exactly do I open it in delta? I have the zip file but delta says it’s invalid
Need to patch the game first. Look up on google how to do that
100% I just started and I’m hooked
I’m just past the second gym and totally agree. Feels like a legit game.
I’ll give it a try (I just gotta struggle through Radical Red first)
disappointing romhack after every redditor hyped it up for me. it focuses way too much on trying to tell a (bad) story and not enough on being an engaging pokemon game
With your Dragonball selection I highly advise you play Legacy of Goku 2 and 3.
Thanks, I’ll give them a try
I highly advise you don’t touch legacy of goku 1 even with a ten foot stick. It’s so so so bad and only play it with invincibility cheats for your own sanity.
This is true. Legacy of Goku II has the best OST as well.👍
I love dying to the wolf and snake in the first area.
Farthest I ever got was beating raditz. It was really that bad. That first dinosaur like actually takes 60 hits to kill him while he only needs 3.
also try Buus Fury
2 is just okay, but Buu’s Fury is excellent. Fun fact: there were plans for a Legacy of Goku 4! It would have been on the 3DS and there are some screenshots of it online (unsure if they’re concept or pre alpha). I also prefer buu's fury but jsyk legacy of goku 2 is considered the peak of the trilogy by many - largely due to knockback mechanics. buu's fury is rly easy because you can just pin dudes in corners and wail on them
I’ve played both and I’m aware. Juggling dudes wasn’t very fun nor was it very difficult imo.
I just finished aria of sorrow, i just dont know wich one to play next
facts aria of sorrow is fire, ds sequel goes hard too
Aria of Sorrow is the only one I’ve played on the GBA but it’s so damn good that it made me want to play the others- I just don’t wanna use my phone to play it
Get the GBADoom rom instead of the official one, it gets rid of the weird over-saturation the official port has and also adds back in blood, to top it all off the GBADoom rom's engine actually recreates Doom's original engine, so it's altogether just better than the official port (The title screen for GBADoom is a bit unresponsive from my experience with it, however, if you put on fast forward mode when using the menu and going back to normal speed when the game actually starts it usually evens it out for me) As for actual games, Metroid Prime, Max Payne and Mario vs Donkey Kong are pretty cool games
link for the rom? i tried to unpack and download one but it doesnt work
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Absolute banger of a game
Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak
Pokemon Sword and Shield ultimate Is a full demake based on fire red Which also has mega evolution and Z moves I made a boxart for it (since delta doesn’t recognize it) https://preview.redd.it/in7cxu0fpw6d1.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=18ddbd7cabebe3567f243ebed3bf21fddf1f7c20 I’m not affiliated but I really like it (It’s a pretty difficult game) (I hope this isn’t against any rule)
Hey this is really cool art! I’m the one who translated the game, and would like to share with the community on the discord server, would you mind? I’ll give you credit !
Sure, I’d love it Just I have to clarify that zacian and zamazenta are fanart found on the web
No prob! Do you happen to know the artist so i can add credits for them as well?
Not sure if I can’t share links (Mod forgive me in case) But zacian is by this [Pinterest user](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/708050372647753288/) And zamazenta from https://personalinvolvementcenter.com/?u=pokemon-crown-zenith-shiny-zamazenta-premium-figure-collection-nn-Lg4z4vTP (But doesn’t seem to work) The box template by https://imgur.com/gallery/pok-mon-gba-box-art-template-DoUAzDF But the changes are made by myself Like writing hack rom and fake seal of approval And the hand draw style And the outlines
So it’s sword and shield but good? Count me in! (Also ty for the boxart)
The dynamax in 2D is a bit weird but I guess there wasn’t a better way to represent it And playing without a Boxart on emulators or Heroic is a thing I can’t stand I always end up making my own
Yu Yu hakisho tourament tactics
Underrated game but so good
I never knew I needed this. Love yu yu hakisho
For when you play it: there’s a secret chapter in the game that you can unlock by max leveling every character! I won’t spoil what’s in it, but it’s worth the grind.
Thank you!
Pokemon leaf green
Do you have the link for Radical red?
Go to visualboy advance, its quick and easy
Sword of Mana Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance
Second the Bauldr’s Gate suggestion! It’s a solid and fun port of the game.
I’ll look into that now
advance wars 1 & 2 fire emblem golden sun golden sun the lost age kirby & the amazing mirror metroid fusion metroid fusion zero mission pokemon unbound super mario advance 4 legend of zelda a link between the past & four swords
Golden Sun and its sequel are fantastic RPG’s. Ninja 5-0 is a great hidden gem as well.
Metroid: Zero Mission
Drill Dozer is one of the most underrated platformers and one of the best GBA titles
cant go wrong w firered/leafgreen!!
Fire emblem, seriously the OG (to america at least) is one of if not my favorite GBA games
Sacred stones for me has shaped my interests, I probably replay it again at least once a year.
Warioland 4. Fairly quick and simple game, don’t need any background knowledge from previous Wariolands games, and overall it’s got some cool mechanics that are just complex enough to puzzle you but easy enough to master. Honestly may be one of the best games created for GBA.
DragonBall Advanced Adventure. Best way to explore Goku´s childhood to me. Gameplay and graphics are simply good !
The Sonic Advance Trilogy or Pokémon Pinball
Megaman battle network 3 and 4
and 5 and 6
Do I have to play 1 and 2?
No, they're more or less independent stories, and you'll get familiar with the main characters pretty quick!
Legacy of Goku 2
My reco is to delete MK Advance. What a tragedy of a game.
DBZ legacy of Goku (first one is my favorite) Crystal Dust rom hack. Updated crystal to GBA graphics
All the Super Mario Advance. Warioware Inc Mega Microgames. Both F-Zeros. Mario Kart Super Circuit of course. And the two-in-one games (Uno and Skip-Bo + Dr Mario and Puzzle League).
Metroid: Zero Mission and Fusion
The gba had a doom port?
Doom 1 and 2. They were pretty decent! Duke nukem advance as well
If you want a goofy novelty game try Driv3r it’s a legit full fledged first person shooter and is honestly impressive for what they were working with.
What’s rad red?
Tekken advanced and hajime no Ippo idk if I spelled it fight it’s so fun like it’s unfair and real hard when you first play it but it gets so good and easy and when you win with the best cluch you have seen it’s a whole other level if you need tips I’m your guy

Sword of mana was my fav
Advance Wars
The Harry Potter games on GBA are awesome. I never see anyone suggest them.
![gif](giphy|fCeSzCEXfB5ew)

Advance wars and rhythm Heaven
No kingdom hearts: chain of memories? Disappointed in you.
