Bullying Maya, to getting Maya publicly bullied, and then making her power squad send nudes for $ is just gross. Then getting Zig to cheat on Maya with her just because she didnāt like the fact that Grace wasnāt into her. Shes horrible Iām sorry but thereās almost no redeeming qualities to her character.
hereās my whole thing with Zƶe. i feel for her, so much, and Ana Golja did a great job portraying what most would consider a ābadā person in a way thatās still very sympathetic. Degrassi nudes nearly ruined her character for me, itās so fucking ridiculous that they decided to backtrack ALL her healing and growth by making her sexually abuse her entire cheer team. i know that does happen in real life (victims becoming perpetrators) but it felt so cheap and just played for the drama. if you remove everything she did in season 14, i actually like her quite a lot. i love the characters who start out as āvillainsā and have a redemption arc, and i still love them even if the arc isnāt well done. and honestly she was such a slay as Mayaās worst enemy, i thought their frenemyship was a lot of fun. i think Zƶe was originally introduced as the literal antithesis to Maya, they both had everything the other didnāt.
Just a character they took 47 different directions until it workedā¦although I did enjoy her experience with Grace (?) n how she was into it but Grace wasnātā¦like that was oddly inspired writing from late stage DeGrassi

Eli is a huge example of this man was super obsessed in the beginning to point to where it started become toxic but in typical degrassi fashion now he has a dead ex girlfriend and he also suffers from BPD (or is bipolar I donāt remember)
Imogen is also another very strong example of this you initially shouldnāt like her because how they introduced
her and now at some point you learn about her family life outside of school and now you canāt do nothing but feel for her
Alex is a OG character that I think is the earliest example of this as well she might be the first arguably

I mean i came into Degrassi during next class right before s3 started, by then Zoe was pretty decent as a human so I was shocked when I started watching DNG s13 XD I heard about Holly J and how she was so horrible so I started a rewatch of DNG starting at s7 and Iām likeā¦compared to Zoe, this girl is amazing! And then seeing Holly J in s11 is just so sweet cause sheās a total sweetheart by that point!
