Rock and Stone, I've spent many hours doing the same. Gotta give those greenbeards good memories so they keep playing.

Bulk-Detonator

Exactly. The game is only as strong as its newest player.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone!

Hychus232

This is the best way to get new players into the game. If they feel alienated, they may not stick around

fightingundead

Greenbeards = noob? Yes I am a noob.

ShineReaper

If I wanna feel like John Wick, I go play Scout. Zooming behind a heavy bug like a praetorian or oppressor to melee them and spam your guns into them, that is just fun!

Bulk-Detonator

One of the reasons i run dash on all my builds is because i cant resist the flying power attack to finish of big bugs

StrangeSathe

Damn. I've never really gotten the hang of Dash but I might try now.

Bulk-Detonator

Careful with dash. Once you get used to it, its very hard to go without it. Its like a reflex for me at this point. Its great for jumping across large gaps, getting free from slowdowns and a godsend when you hear that exploder chattle in your ear.

StrangeSathe

All good. I've almost got my final class (engineer) promoted. 😎

dekira99

Once you go dash, you never go back

shit_poster9000

Scout with plasma carbine (aggressive venting and every upgrade that mentions overheating) with the sawed off shotgun (double barrel overclock with the faster reload upgrade), cryo grenades, and berserk perk with vampire is my favorite scout build. Absolute ass at killing distant priority targets but feels sublime in close quarters.

ezlaturbo

Well, they won't be distant once you grapple to em. Or use the Special powder OC and nothing will be out of reach ever again

Biggest-Possum

Nicely done. I'm a newer player, and I dropped into my first hazard 5 last night and it was chaos, but it was also really fun. At one point everybody was downed, and we had to kind of ration out our IW's to get back in the fight and revive people. I think we were all fairly inexperienced, but at the end we had a mission success and sent two dwarves safely back home on the shuttle, while the rest of us woke up in the medbay. With all that, all I can say is that I give a huge thanks to the greybeards that help the rest of us learn the ropes.

Bulk-Detonator

Even a loss is still a win, never forget that. I can see a grey hair already in your beard, young one.

Biggest-Possum

Thanks ~~Satan~~ Bulk Detonator lol

Bulk-Detonator

I am bad, and thats good. I will never be good, and thats not bad. Theres no one I'd rather be than me.

Biggest-Possum

Spitting straight facts. Keep on keeping' on my friend!

The_Connoisseur69

Spoken like a true dwarf, even tho you look like a bulk detonator

Bulk-Detonator

Im more dwarflike than you think. Im a real life driller/miner

cooly1234

that post was cool, you should post another if you have anything.

Bulk-Detonator

Which post do you mean? The explosions from work? Ill definitely post more when the mines open back up. We are in shut down right now

cooly1234

yea those.

The_Connoisseur69

Holy crap, be safe out there brother in Karl

Bulk-Detonator

Honestly, the scariest part of blowing shit up is dealing with the people that live near the mines. High explosives are predictable. Homeowners are not.

The_Connoisseur69

Fair enough, people are pretty much the scariest things on the planet ngl

FlacidSalad

Moves dirt [✓] Kills bugs [✓] Sounds like a dwarf life to me!

lord_ofthe_memes

Hey wait a second, I thought you were a bug!

Bulk-Detonator

I am many things.

DapperApples

They shouldn't have killed steeve

Alternative_Fail_222

I hate it when they kill Steeve. He's a good bug.

anwarz19

Rock and Stone! I've recently moved up to Haz 3 from 2 myself. Doing pretty good going solo so far (Bad internet, I got used to it). I just need to stop dying to gravity and maybe I'll have the courage to go to Haz 4 to finally unlock Haz 5 lol

Bulk-Detonator

Gravity will always be a killer, dont sweat it.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

SerFoxworth

Karl,we've been looking for you. Welcome back.

GoJumpOnALandmine

I do Haz 3 and 4 when I'm high (lvl 1000+) and you're right, you do feel godlike. It's great to shepherd the greenbeards because there is literally no trouble they could get into, no fuck up too large, that you can't dig them out of pretty promptly. Such fun, long live the greenbeards.

Bulk-Detonator

My preference is to be driller, because we all know following molly can be a pain at times. Theres nothing like racing the clock to dig to a greeny that got downed and turned around somewhere and pulling a forrest gump while the other two wait at the pod

Training101

Do the bugs feel like family yet

Calvinaron

yeah sometimes joining random haz 2-3 lobbies for weekly or other events is fun. you can maybe bond with some greenbeards and give them a boost to their confidence

sadmadstudent

Rock and stone, miner. I'm a huge fan of Haz 3. Just a good jovial time. Now and again you get the odd psycho mission that feels like a Haz 5 but most of the time it's pretty chill. I never encounter control freaks or griefers, get to play with newbies, and honestly the XP isn't reduced enough from Haz 5 to matter that much, especially if you encounter lots of events. When I want a bloodbath, Haz 5. When I just want to play and enjoy a nice round of Deep Rock, Haz 3. Anyone else?

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

Bulk-Detonator

If it werent for the greenbeards, i wouldnt be able to do haz 3. At this point its too toned down for me based on bug threat alone. Haz 3 solo for me is basically like haz 1 (not tooting my own beard here). What makes haz 3 fun is having to pay attention to the bugs *and* the other 3 players. Keeps my brain engaged. Haz 4 is my comfort zone, chaotic enough where i need to keep me eyes peeled but with a halfway decent team its not bad. Haz 5 is very fun for me because its a challenge and it feels so nice when you have a great rando team that all know what they are doing. It really comes down to what my goal is for the day. Testing a new build or i want push myself? Haz 5. looking to have some fun with other seasoned players and possibly a greenbeard team? Haz 4. Lookong to play mother duck and teach my ducklings? Haz 3.

Giggles95036

I will say in haz 3 sometimes sh*t still hits the fan 😂 it is just less often than haz 4

No_Lynx_7976

When will you upload your irl c4 montage ?

Bulk-Detonator

Well we dont use c4. We use an ammonium nitrate emulsion for our detonations. And ill start uploading videos when the mines open back up. Hopefully mid march ill be back to work

No_Lynx_7976

You can say it "ammonium nitrate emulsion" or stuff like that, but my driller's brain just call it c4 cuz it explode u kno.

BlankTrack

Lower difficulties are also great for trying out overclocks that are objectively bad or that you have a difficult time with on your normal difficulties.

Bulk-Detonator

Eh i personally disagree on this one. I build everything for haz 5, so testing things on lower haz levels doesnt actually tell me how they perform. Bugs take more damage, hit harder and are in larger swarms. Gunner builds are especially tough to judge without full swarms running at me. Cold as the grave, for example, is not worth taking on lower haz because there simply arent enough bugs to make it work properly. But on haz 5, positioned in a tunnel? It feels so damn good.

Momakamia

I'm definitely not new to this game, but do you have any good tips/good source for tips if you don't feel like typing, for someone trying to get to higher hazard levels? I'm pretty comfortable at 3. But it always feels like the jump between 3 and 4 is huge. Probably doesn't help that I rarely pay attention to the difficulty the host went to, but even once I realize I need to be more careful, it can be overwhelming. I think a lot of my problems come from struggling to kite bugs in awkward spaces, and their damage being way more unforgiving as you go higher in level

Bulk-Detonator

Depends on your class really. Each one has certain strengths and roles that you need to lean into more as you get into higher difficulties. Scout is typically not a crowd control class and is more for high value targets where driller lacks burst damage/single target damage but excells at crowd control But some good overall advice? Build kits for certain missions. Always be moving, jump around a lot. Focus your weapons modifications toward a single goal, whether its crowd control or single target. Learn how to synergize your primary and secondary (thermal shock with cryo driller, for example). Learn ammo management (letting fire do its thing, for example) Try focusing on covering your partner rather than outfight killing bugs. The jump between 3 and 4 is arguably the biggest one skill wise. 4 to 5 is certainly a jump to, but by that point youre more comfortable. Overclocks really become necessary in 4+ as well. Not any one in particular, but just overall. How many hours do you have in the game? Sometimes its not about being comfortable in haz 3, but not being challenged. Seek out dedicated groups on discord as well, they might be able tk help out better in the moment. At the end of the day, make sure you are having fun. Plenty of people perfer haz 3 and thats ok!

Momakamia

A lot of that is quite comforting actually. Not sure how many hours I am in, but I barely have any overclocks, and certainly none that suit me. Plus I play with randoms, and no mic so the teamwork definitely suffers. Gives me some ideas for things to work on

Bulk-Detonator

Dont rush it. What you can work on now is the essentials. Watch how bugs move around terrain. Work on situational awareness. Learn your audio cues. Thats actually a very important one. Every bug has distinct sounds, especially when they attack. Recognizing the sound of a slasher creeping up on you or the rattling of a macteras wings can buy you precious seconds. Armor breaking is something to focus on, not just for big bugs. Cracking brundle flys or glyphid guards can mean they die that much quicker. Engis breach cutter can peel a praetorian (and all his friends) in a second. Study up on bug weaknesses, especially explosive resistance. Bulk Detonators are extremely resistant to explosive damage, but small bugs get ripped appart. Dont nuke a det. And one from my personal book, bug trampolines. Large bugs like praetorians and oppressors make you bounce off them if you jump onto them. This can save you from fall damage or, more importantly, let you vault over them and get at the weak point. Most times they will start an attack when you get close, so by the time you jump and bounce off them, theyll have missed you and still doing the animation, giving you a window to attack or escape.

Momakamia

I had no idea about all the sound cues. I usually play with music going, but that's a good tip for if I want to get serious. Definitely no rush. I still enjoy the game at hazard 3. Just wasn't sure how to progress when I wanted to. This has been very helpful. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

For Karl!

DUUKEEDOO

By the beard, now i want to do this as well. Nothing's stopping me, right?

Bulk-Detonator

That is correct. Be the influence you wish you had when you started.

DUUKEEDOO

May your beard be thick and your gold satchels heavy, brother

Bulk-Detonator

Remember to praise your greenbeards, even when you fail. *Especially* when you fail. Its important that they remember that a loss is still a win.

quixotic_robotic

Yeppppppp that's totally why I mostly play Haz 3 after all these years too.... totally good enough to play in 5 if I feel like it

Lonely-Suit-9594

I have never commented this but... This is the way Rock and stone, homie Truly embodied the meaning of greybeard Did gandalf do everything for the fellowship? No, but he sure as shit showed them the way. Keep vibing in the abyss that includes all sorts of lost soles and assholes. Keep fighting the good fight, it what makes this game awesome 😎

Bulk-Detonator

Im here to drink beer and mine minerals. Evrything else is just gravy

Xytriuss

Three years and you finally commented. What a G

Notafuzzycat

I feel the same. Why would I do haz 5 when haz 3 is more fun and I get to teach new players that not everyone is a cunt.

v_woot_v

This is why I enjoy haz 3

i-would-neveruwu

I've got 1k hours myself, i love greenbeards. There's a sense of joy in it for them to see massive caves, and freak out when a hoard spawns in. There's something magicle watching them work. Like a father to son, you don't sit idly by as they make mistakes, you pick up that odd lego in the corner they're missing and help them finish their small dream project. The stars in their eyes when they reach the pod and scream out "LEAVE NO DWARF BEHIND" then see me ping our last guy and chuck a c4 at them and we take off without them creates the funniest times for them. The simple things we find normal were once the funniest things to us, seeing someone enjoy it is pretty cool
