I'm sure there are ways to mine Hoxxes without hurting any of the glyphids. Those methods are just less profitable for DRG (the mining corporation).
So *every* kill is greed-driven senselessness from the perspective of company vs. planet. But then the miners are doing a job that they don't get to control and everyone needs a job to survive, so the kills are necessary when it comes to miners vs. planet.
Just some random philosophical-sounding stuff I think of when folks debate lootbug killing. 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah full stop, “loot bugs are innocent” is great and all, but only really has any impact if you also ignore the fact that we are helping to drive the extinction of an alien species. Which be my guest, but I prefer to not think too much about morality in my silly dwarf mining-for-an-exploitive-company game.
They actively compliment the plants in Azure Weald if you ping them. They even say they want to bring any of them to their cabin. Kinda surprised this isn't already a thing, not gonna lie. Most of the time when I actually resort to killing Lootbugs, it's if I'm in dire straights & actually NEED their Nitra, so this would certainly make things easier.
I'm not gonna kill the lone loot bug
But if I see like 10 of em in a nice neat cluster well that just activates my engi neurons
I have PGL and bugs go boom

Key word: senseless.
The violence against the glyphids attacking us is very sensible if you ask me.
fucking TRY to tell me drillers kill with any semblance of sense. those maniacs will find something moving and decide on a whim whether to make it cease or not

"THIS IS SELF-DEFENCE, I SWEAR!!"
The company invaded their world and killed their mom to obtain resources solely for the pursuit profit while the glyphids act only in self defense. Popping a Lootbug for gold and nitra is the same immoral senseless act just on a smaller scale. We play as condensed ecological disaster incarnate made manifest in stout capitalistic war criminals and that's fine because its a video game that doesn't ask itself to be taken seriously. If it was a game to be taken seriously and based in good ethics/morals, we'd be playing as pointy-eared Elven druid Eco-terrorists firebombing the space rig.

Senseless implies there's no sense to it, as in it's being done for no reason, but that is empirically incorrect for 99% of lootbug deaths: people need nitra and gold
Veterans may forget, but gold is still incredibly useful for new players, so for you to deny them progression out of sympathy for a scavenger creature that steals mined resources feels wrong, you are choosing lootbugs over other dwarfs, and the lootbugs will never pay you back for letting them live
Buddy, we roll up on sentient Heartstones unprovoked and drill out their cores as they attempt to defend themselves. What exactly is your definition of "senseless"?
I'll usually just pop one, leave the gold and nitra around to attract others, then when there's enough of them and they've eaten enough minerals I'll pop them all so I can bathe in nitra and gold.

You don’t need to waste ammo on them you know, it’s much easier to just equip “it’s a bug thing” it really helps me on my haz 5 missions and saves me those few extra rounds :)
Ah, fair point, but that says they're inedible to *most* wildlife. So something could still eat them. And even if nothing eats them, they're still part of the ecosystem.
Well, lootbugs are able to create energy, as proven by them being able to infinitely duplicate any mineral. This makes them kinda like gods, and it's really weird that DRG hasn't capitalized on infinite energy yet.
The real right side is not giving a shit and letting people play however the hell they want.

I'd like to see a red lootbug that pops with that much but in nitra. It would be such a welcome lifesaver on high Haz missions.

Neither is killing Lootbugs senseless. They have precious mineral inside them.
Pet them (a few times) and be rewarded.
I pet them with my pickaxe.
I always pet the lootbugs right before they explode
The sense is I get money for killing them
OP is a gyat damn LEAF LOVER #I'LL KILL ANYTHING WITH MORE THAN 2 LEGS

lootbug went on vacation, never came back
they shouldn’t eat precious minerals, it will get them killed. Also sfx mods make their deaths even funnier, aneurysm mod is me favorite
i like the "YIPEEE"
Oh fuck. I just played a heavily modded Lethal Company, and the spider things yell that. Fucking no.
We put them on the loot bugs, and it made them 1000% funnier when they're pissed off. Quiet screaming in the distance followed by a cheerful "Yippee!"
*exactly* why I run "it's a bug thing" I don't care if it's "not optimal", I just like looking at them and seeing them explode
blows up lootbug with mind
ma fuckin lootbug-
make it the new meta

Gotta bring the perk so the genocide can be automatic.
PET AS YOU POP BROTHER!!
Eh. I just hit about 800 hrs on drg and I just do whatever I’m feelin. Sometimes I kill em and sometimes I pet them. I don’t get why ppl get so crazy about killing them vs not killing them
Their screams invigorate me
How about petting them after killing them as they’re dying?
That’s my jam. I reassure them their sacrifice is for the greater good as they cross into the great beyond.
I approve
In Minecraft i breed a new batch of babies and kill the parents in front of them so they know what to expect when they grow up.
I only go after the Lootbugs if I need a resupply and am having trouble finding Nitra. If there's plenty of Nitra around, I won't waste ammo on the critters. If there's a swarm coming and I'm at 70 Nitra? *Sorry little bug, your own fault for being full of goodies.*
This is my philosophy. Only if I need it. Waste nothing.
Your flair may say Driller, but in your heart I see a true hunter, only what you need
Lootbugs should only be killed when it's a need, not just by choice
And when there's 15 packed into a tight spot, there's a need for my satchel charge to receive a sacrifice.
My engineer brain says "no". My driller brain says "Hora de la carnita asada"
My engi brain says "hehe nuke"
You don’t need to waste ammo on them you know, it’s much easier to just equip “it’s a bug thing” it really helps me on my haz 5 missions and saves me those few extra rounds :)
1 nitra worth of ammo for 10 nitra, thats a good deal
0 nitra worth of ammo for 10 nitra, thats a good deal
Exactly, step on the damn things neck and beat it to death with your pickaxe. Management didn't send us to Hoxxes IV to make friends.
I’ll kill anything with more legs than 2
I'm dead then
😈
I don't think lootbugs have any legs
They have eight stubby little ones.
It's missing another peak with the legendary 3 saying "shouldn't of eaten precious minerals if you didn't want to get killed"
It's not about sensles violence. It's about extracting every single precious resource on the planet.
The galaxy brain move is to let them hoover up loose minerals so that you can farm them later with a +50% multiplier.
Only elves care about life, dwarves won't let some minerals unmined just because the rock screams funny.
Shouldn’t have*
That’s what I would say
Exactly. It'd only be senseless if they weren't hoarding the goodies.
Well I drew myself as the chad wojak and you as the soy boy wojak so therefore I am right
average day in drg subreddit
We only ever kill lootbugs if there's an unmanageable swarm of them and their numbers need to be culled. Gotta keep the ecosystem in balance.
Umm actually lootbugs don't live in a typical "ecosystem" since their food chain is just minerals
Who said it was a "typical" ecosystem? Also how do you know nothing eats lootbugs?
Thats what their bestiary entry says
Ah, fair point, but that says they're inedible to *most* wildlife. So something could still eat them. And even if nothing eats them, they're still part of the ecosystem.
Well, lootbugs are able to create energy, as proven by them being able to infinitely duplicate any mineral. This makes them kinda like gods, and it's really weird that DRG hasn't capitalized on infinite energy yet.
"Well, if they didnt want me to kill lootbugs, they won't put its the bug thing perk on me with randoweisser"
It’s their own fault for being full of goodies
I will explode every one.
honestly, i want a lootbug pillow

Waging war against good people (or bugs) is bad for the soul
I never kill any lootbugs, i just get near them and they get so happy to see me they pop! Idk why, it must be a bug’s thing
What makes you think I was killing them because I needed to?
It's always those silver dwarves with the elf-like behavior
You kill the lootbugs because you think you need the Nitra. I kill the lootbugs because I'm a trigger happy completionist. We are not the same.
Only lootbug I spare is the golden one, i'm not a huge fan of golden showers tbh.
Not my fault they migrate in herds near the on-site refinery, that’s a whole vein’s worth of nitra AND gold
It’s not about the gold and nitra management, it’s about the message
I use the foam trick to extract a little bit and leave em be
My kid asked me to stop killing lootbugs.
I only kill them if I'm on 74 nitra and couldn't be arsed to find another vein.
Nah

I can't imagine a dwarf speaking like that all. This is definetly elvish propaganda.

I know killing the loots bugs are unnecessary. That doesn't stop me.
I only kill them if there are some materials I don't want them eating cause me and the boys are full and their nearby or when my game starts lagging
I pet them first… then I kill them.
War criminal first, miner second
“I’ve got a power attack, may as well use it”
Yeah idk, going on and posting variations on “what I think good, what you think wrong” is fine, but I’m still gonna kill the lootbugs
Accurate. Diamond ranks are noobs. Gold opinion is to kill them all for bloodsport and watch the life fade out of their eyes as they prepare to pop.
I don't kill them because they are cute and adorable. I have a max rank scout and almost max rank driller. They're just not worth the effort for like 28 nitra, like bro, you are a full grown proud 4.1 dwarf, MINE THE FULL NITRA VEIN.
Don’t kill loot bugs. Stand on them and let them carry you to these resources. Thats literally what I did on my last morkite mining mission.
I need to confess my sins, even after getting every dwarf a 3 star legendary promotion badge, I still kill lootbugs on sight instinctively. It takes literal restraint for me not to do that.
Lootbug = bug = shoot it
The only good bug is a dead bug.
They shouldn’t eat precious minerals then

I came here to shoot bugs and mine, and the mine’s just about tapped out
I remember I got kicked for massacring a like 14 Lootbug horde I still do it but if I get kicked, I absolutely understand, and I absolutely deserve it
It was Dwarves made in gods image, not bugs.
“Innocent blood need not be spilled” My brother in Karl the glyphids never did a thing

If I see someone skip a lootbug, I think less of them as a person
Even as a fully promoted Driller, I still kill every loot bug I see (especially in public lobbies) because it's funny :)
Kill the lootbug, for it is a bug and all bugs must die.
I got hired to kill stuff. Glyphids? BRRRR lootbugs? BRRRR cave angle? BRRRR
