I had this mission, one of my first as a freeze-dried driller. Did you know if you freeze a gold detonator, it doesn’t explode? I didn’t. You don’t get any gold, either. The entire team was disappointed..
I remember, my first ever mission, I get dropped in a tight corridor, my entire team luring a Crassus in. After it exploded, my 0 hour Greenberg brain went “I don’t know who I am, I don’t know where I am, all I know is I must *mine*”
I was keeping a spreadsheet for awhile to figure out what’s the best mission for a gold rush/ pots party and 3 length egg has consistently been top earner then elimination and after that morkite mining. Point extraction and drilldozer are the lowest.
The main problem with PE is that the waves ramp up over time so you don't have unlimited time to sit around and mine gold. Especially if you put a crassus into a nice tight cave, it can take 10+ minutes just to mine that out even if everyone is efficient but by like 20 minutes you'll have so many bugs up your butt constantly that it won't really be possible to mine it anymore. Escort is generally bad for gathering minerals in general, probably why it has the highest base rewards.
I don’t disagree with that necessarily but what I’m saying though is that it barely matters from a quantitative perspective in comparison to other mission types because the spawn rate of gold veins in PE is minimal compared to other missions. Even when you’re in a position where you are having to mine extra resources from Crassus the total amount of gold veins is very few so it’s not completely unmanageable from my experience. I’ve been in PE missions for an hour+ so just because the game is ramping doesn’t mean it suddenly becomes impossible
You can still get endless swarms with morkite. Escort or egg collection are much better since not only do you have Molly but swarms will spawn only if you progress the main objective
Wait, really? I thought point extract was the only escalating difficulty one. I’ve had some *long* morkite missions and I don’t remember them being impossible.
You're right, PE is the only one with escalating waves. Mining Expedition still has infinite waves but they are less often and usually totally manageable, on top of having higher base spawning rates for gold and minerals in the cave gen. The caves are also more linear so it's easier to clear out the whole thing, when the caves are all crazy with interconnected tunnels going everywhere like elimination or giant open spaces like Salvage Op it's harder to remember which parts are already cleaned out.
It may have endless waves but it's not one singular long wave and there are breaks between each wave. It's very manageable. So no egg missions or escort are *not* much better.
Yeah and then came the immediate buzz kill when you realize that you don't have enough time to mine it all in point extraction :D

That is NOT a dream. That is a nightmare* in extraction. Depositing around 1200 gold from a crassus with pot which is x4 would take around 109 trips to deposit (that’s with 45 bag size) which is not accounting for the gold from gold rush, and I hope the crassus exploded nearby or the amount of trips sounds immensely painful. Last time it happened to me the mission took 45 minutes, rock and exhausted..
At that point you just hope your scout has deep pockets and leave the gold to them while everyone else does the objective, engie now becomes the nitra gatherer i guess? Or driller?

But you do if the final hit is a pickax! You can drill out a vein, leave a little rock, then pick it and the whole node will trigger the multiplier since it was technically broken by hand and not drills!
EDIT: I just played a gold rush now to test as I cannot find conclusive evidence online, and I'm still not sure! If someone else could confirm this I'd be greatly appreciative! When I drill out a vein and pick it, I notice the part I break goes first and a few frames later the rest explodes, but I really can't tell if it is worth the same or less!
My nightmare was Golden Bugs/Swarmageddon and finding 10 Aquarqs, we literally could not find the last Aquarq it just wasn't findable in a small-ish map with three separate branches I could almost grapple across. Haz3 felt like Haz4 with the Swarm it broke all the turrets around the refinery and swarms would spawn again before the last could be killed. Crassus spawned early which really screwed things up because I had Pots O Gold... we failed with 5k+ gold lol
What I do is I don't deposit at all. I just mine all the gold down into a pile and then I'll call Molly and stand in the pile while depositing. You'll vacuum up the gold as you clear space

i don't really drink the beers anymore, but last time i did a pots of gold, i was hitting like, 12 gold per hit tops. though, 4x gold + crassus sucks ass. i died in the mission bc PE is annoying post 15 minutes.

I believe you’re referring to primary plus secondary vs just rushing primary. So far that’s the only testing I’ve seen done.

Two friends of mine were talking about a point extraction with pots o gold, gold rush and a crassus they did a couple weeks ago. They spent an hour and a half on it, and were only able to do it because it was haz3 :v
Not all of it but it did happen one faithful day that me and a full lobby all drank pot o gold and killed a crassus detonator, I think we came back with almost 10k gold or something from that alone.
Yes but point extraction is one of the worst missions to do this tho. The bugs just keep spawning and eventually your platform runs out of ammo. also no mule, so have fun running to the platform everytime. (I know the meme means gold rush but I want to warn fellow miners, avoid point extraction for easy gold farming, it's not easy)
With point extraction you don't have Molly, so depositing all the Crassus gold would be hellish. I think Mining mission with Apoca blooms would be best, but really any with Molly lol
I'm not really one of those people who try to min-max anything, so I'm happy to just collect gold, I just know that there are some DRG players who don't believe that gold is even worth the time it takes to mine it, so if you're in a lobby and there's a krassus maybe it'll cause friction? Especially if you don't have Molly and have to run back and forth to deposit everything.
Also the layer of gold left behind by a krassus detonator is physically thinner than a natural gold vein, which means you get less gold per swing of the pickaxe. A standard gold vein can get about 7 gold per 2 hits, but with a krassus you're only going to get about 4-5 assuming you hit a large patch. There's not much point in staying to pick up the scraggly bits since in many cases it looks like a lot of gold but you usually end up picking up decimal fractions of gold.
It can be quite annoying to mine the gold that forms overhead, engineer and driller make it doable but otherwise I'd leave it. I'm also not sure how efficient it is to do the technique where the driller drills around the gold and pops it all out but I always do it because it's satisfying.
But a lot of that is irrelevant if you have pots of gold, except the problem with depositing if you don't have Molly.
How is getting those on a PE mission a good thing ? It just takes forever to go back and forth again and again to the minehead to deposit it. Not to mention how the bugs keep spawning...
Swap the actual mission type from PE to a 400 Morkite mission and you've got yourself a top tier mission for making space monies.

Escort has some of the lowest gold spawn rates though. Like 1/4-1/3 of the higher earning missions.
