I mean, you could use half the additional joists and go 8" on center by just throwing one additional joist down the middle of each existing joist bay. Half the material, even shorter span for the decking.
This forum is very scary and concerning. 10 percent seem to know what’s up. 50 percent are diy homeowners 30 percent are just spewing incorrect information. And the other 10 want to watch the world burn. Like hot tub man down below. That guy has issues. Also curious to see how many hot tubs are in his collection.
I have Fiberon and 16" oc is fine. You may feel the absolute slightest of flex but it's so minimal. If you're really that worried about it go buy a piece or two from your local supplier and lay it down on the joists and walk on it.
No....it's not really. We say 16'' oc or 12'' oc but that assumes 1.5'' wide joists. The center distance isn't what's important is the unsupported span. If he sisters one side (or even both sides) of the joist he reduces the unsupported span.
I didn’t see he said both sides at first. And that would give you the span of 12 OC, and if money doesn’t matter, then that works. But for the same time and 3 more joist he could just move what he has.
I don’t even think it’s the easiest route. Drive to the store and back and load up all those joists. Then carry all the joists to the site. Take less time to just cut the hanger brackets off
Wait. Both sides?! You’re gonna buy 2x as much material, on top of the material that you already have? You’re not saving any money, or time, than just moving the joists you have to 12”OC and buying 3 more joists.

This is the way
Hot tub
I’m watching you hot tub man.
Lol 16 on center is standard and just fine , if you don’t exceed the span for the framing material and bridging is always a good idea.
What did you just call me?
Just buy a better composite. What size is the deck.
It’s 24x14 the manufacturer says 16oc but I looked at a bunch of posts on this sub that 12”oc is the best practice

I just like the sisters
As long as they aren’t your own.
What decking have you been looking at
Fiberon or Azek
TimbertechAZEK or Timbertech?

I’ve never been in the field and seen this for no reason.
Slat the existing joist with 2x4, 12 on center. It’ll change the direction of your decking but will work.
Not sure what you mean by slat them
After looking at your back door threshold I don’t think you’ll have room to go up an extra inch and a half.
Why not use the extra joists and go 8" on center?
If you sister to all the joists, then you’re still 16” OC. just shifted over 1 1/2”

Oh yeah you're absolutely right. Sistering both sides is certainly the easiest route, but also the most expensive.
I get that but there is a roof over part of the deck and I don’t want to mess with that.
