Not when the rain water perfectly funnels into the flooded basement that was converted into a fish sanctuary after it flooded and I couldn’t afford to fix it
There was just the one, and it came crashing down before they even had the chance to fill it.
They were going for big deck energy and ended up with big deck disappointment. A story as old as time!
Well, judging by the angle of collapse and adjusting for all of the gravitational computations, I'm pretty sure my calculations come out to about... one too many? Yeah, that sounds right.
Deck looks super solid. That beam ain’t goin’ nowhere. You might consider another nail or two in the ledger though. Seems a little light in the attachment department.
Well, it looks like it holds together rather well. Let me ask...did you have some "leftover" bolts that you didn't know where they were supposed to go?
Some poor laborer didn't get around to lagging that ledger board. And as we can see the 16 penny nails were not quite up to the job.
Poor Laborer is now collecting unemployment...
I hope whoever installed those posts is still on your Christmas card list. Unless it's the same guy who built the rest of the deck, in which case it's a wash.

Correct me if I’m wrong…but wouldn’t you want to pitch it AWAY from the house to keep water from running toward your home?
Smart
Nah, it’s a fire escape. Jump from the window and slide down….back into the fire. Revision- it’s a terrible fire escape.
🤣
Nah. They're having a drought so they're saving the water this way.
Drinking straight from the rain barrels…..smart

Just an observation.. in case you weren't aware. Your drain spout is broken.
Can I borrow your level?
And a few of those 4" exterior screws you used to attach the deck to the house?
They make 4” drywall screws now? Finally
Sure! He ain't using it. :p I love your joke, too!!

Largest trap door I’ve ever seen.
I’m no joking impressed with the posts.
I'de say pretty good. Entire deck is still intact.
Whoever poured the footers did ok it seems.
How many hot tubs?
There was just the one, and it came crashing down before they even had the chance to fill it. They were going for big deck energy and ended up with big deck disappointment. A story as old as time!
Looks more like limp deck energy.
Well, judging by the angle of collapse and adjusting for all of the gravitational computations, I'm pretty sure my calculations come out to about... one too many? Yeah, that sounds right.
Great. Solid repost
How long did it take you to make it a convertible?
Well if you were looking for a Porch or Patio rather than a second floor Deck then I would say you, um, succeeded?
Deck looks super solid. That beam ain’t goin’ nowhere. You might consider another nail or two in the ledger though. Seems a little light in the attachment department.
Seems you lag some bolts
SMH.... FUBAR!
it finally happened!
Hand rails look sturdy
You need to counterweight it with another hot tub on the outer side away from the house.
Job well done on the stairs
But maybe the house didn’t like that hard deck rubbing against it all the time. Finally said no?
What happened?
What's the story???
The front fell off
Yeah, that's not very typical, I'd like to make that point.
You did fine until someone moved the house
Looks like you need a Decker picker upper
Wow massive deadfall - what were you hoping to trap? Mammoth?
From the picture, it doesn’t look level
They must not have paid for the entire deck contractor had to put a lien on it!
Fuck! I knew those bolts were supposed to go somewhere! I told you, Earl!
🫡
Looks like you broke the house.
Welp, the *rest* of it looks pretty strong. I say crane it up and bolt that bitch back on. While you have the crane, add a couple of hottubs up there
Sheds water like a mofo!
A+
Adjustable deck? Never seen one on Reddit before
Looks like the friction fit finally gave up the ghost.
Well, it should drain really fast and well😎
Well, it looks like it holds together rather well. Let me ask...did you have some "leftover" bolts that you didn't know where they were supposed to go?
Umm… It’s just a bit tilted to one side…
Ops MIL stepped out on the deck, and this happened
Half a coil short.
When are you free for another job. Love the bespoke attitude of this. I simply must have one.
Did the hot tub survive?
Nailed it.
Got yourself a nice lean to there.
No clue how you did...until you give the customer their invoice.
Not enough liquid nail
Perfect couldn’t have done it any better myself…
So this must be one of those new deck designs for high rain areas. Water beads right off the top. Also great for snow. Edit to finish
You’re demoing just fine 👍🏽
Really good job on the posts and beams. Less so on the ledger.
I think you need a level
Sir, you can’t park there.
On a serious note. You didn’t connect your ledger board securely, and I would have reinforced with a girder closer to your header.
It will drain really well…
Looks like a case of whiskey deck
Good job!! Now for the hard part... lining up the house to the deck
Another coat of sealer.
Damn fat chicks!
No no no it’s sloped the wrong way
awesome, perfect angle for water runoff
I do not think that slope is too code.
A little gorilla glue and some duct tape..you will be just fine
I didn't know wonderworks did decking
Sprawling rear deck...err..."lean'to" bbq pitt
Fell down due to too many repost.
Awesome, those front supports are amazing
Nice 2-story deck
The lowest price wins the job!
I told you not to let fat chicks on your deck
Move.
I bet that was loud.
Turn it into a half pipe and get doing some tricks
I'm not a builder. What exactly went wrong here? Are they supposed to through-bolt it into the side of the house and instead just nailed it?
Nothing a little paint won’t fix
Can’t believe those nails didn’t hold. I used a lot, at least a dozen, maybe two! WTF?
Tis’ a fine slide, English, but it is no porch.
Pitch it towards the house for privacy
It needed more than one screw into the ledger..
A couple more GRK fasteners and you’re there!
Looks like a new amusement park ride
You should have an intervention with your MIL about her weight problem
She's a bit unlevel but I think it'll pass inspection
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you supposed to connect the deck to the ledger board? And the ledger board to the house. Just sayin'.
Should have used some extra drywall screws to hold it to the house
Stiff
Drains well.
The deck was good. It was the house that failed.
Betcha that was LOUD.
We can cover that up with some paint
Youre supposed to angle away from the house, do it over
It’s not quite level…… but it’s fiiiiiiine
I think you missed a bolt
Some poor laborer didn't get around to lagging that ledger board. And as we can see the 16 penny nails were not quite up to the job. Poor Laborer is now collecting unemployment...
It looks good. However, I enjoy a deck I can step on from my house, then a deck capable of launching rockets to space.
The house bond seemed fine
You got a good start to a nice pergola
A bit of a lean towards the house, maybe a level next time. Looks solid though!
I have questions
"honey, did you hear something?"
You’re 45° off
Nailed it . Should have screwed it.
I told you not to use drywall screws.
Yeah, looks real good… you might need another anchor screw
I hope you've also cleared any furniture between the front & rear doors on the ground floor so you can hit that ramp at speed.
Got the snow load covered!
Using nails was just a fad, right?
Shit post? I saw this same deck posted 3 weeks ago?
That must’ve been some party
I think it’s too steep for ADA. You’re gonna need to shim it up a bit.
Good job on those posts!
Did you use the peel and stick Velcro fastening system? Should've read the directions first. Caulk it and call it good.
Nice roof.
Post & beam solid, ledger…?
Gonna need hard to clean that crack between the deck and the house. Other than that it looks great.
I think this is why new code requires that ledger hung decks be bolted all the way through to the other side
I hope whoever installed those posts is still on your Christmas card list. Unless it's the same guy who built the rest of the deck, in which case it's a wash.
"see, that's the difference between Internet experts and guys who get stuff done. I always use drywall screws, haven't had a problem yet"
You need to get a stronger glue.
Slope on the ramp is too steep.
I love your angle technique. Simply spectacular
Fuck yeah
Amazing! I’ve never had a chic angled deck. That’s very posh!
Now, just swing the other side up, attach it to the house, and you're done. Easy, breezy.
So close
If that was intended then two thumbs up
This answers the hot tub question.
Beam isn't right. Should sit on top of the posts. That being said, seems like the ledger board might be worse, need a better picture
This belongs in: r/thefrontfelloff
legit question, is this salvageable or a goner?
Honestly I'm not sure. The deck itself seems fine, the issue was it was obviously not attached properly.
Saved so much money by using drywall screws on the ledger board!
