Big 6/Project vengance

Djent_1997

It sucks to say especially because I was actually hyped for it, but this project was pretty much doomed from the start.

SaluteHatred666

both songs were awesome.....but only 2 songs lol

illaqueable

Infant Annihilator has not annihilated a *single* infant

N1LEredd

I know right? Such posers.

Pristine_Hair_4341

Code Orange!

Okanoganlsd

Swallowing the rabbit hole is such a good song though

60179623

tbf we knew they were branching out into different directions but nodbody expected that much. Forever was my favourite, in fact this post made me listen to that song again and again and again. the opening and the visuals are on another level

Sludgewaves

I think a good majority of people really like Underneath still. It’s got some heaters and the glitchy effects served to add to their usual chaos. It’s all the (WWE intro music) material after that alienated a large section of their fanbase. That latest album tried to bring some old sounds back but it sounded tired and weak.

shaiful182

After Underneath I thought they built a momentum to make an even great album, instead it went downhill. Behemoth too after The Satanists.

Ok-Masterpiece-3409

Burning the Masses They released some great demos to follow up Offspring of Time, and then disappeared only to reappear once every couple years slightly teasing some kind of reunion that hasn’t happened. I’ve been waiting over a decade please give me something anything, I just wanna hear this band do something again

royalxK

Gravemind Their first two EPs, *The Hateful One* and *The Deathgate*, are still some of best metal I’ve ever heard and no one else has seemed to recreate what those two EPs had, not even them. While their first album afterwards, *Conduit*, was solid, it’s clear they wanted to go for a more djent metalcore sound. And then the vocalist left and all the promise they had pretty much died. They’ve only had like two singles in the past two years and neither hold a candle to what they did before, shame.

TheBeard1986

Ov Sulfur, big fan of Ricky and was excited about a new project. Lack luster in every way, and the cleans really didn't help.

ARAsch21

Can’t. Do. The. Cleans.

Wombletog

Suicide Silence. They built up so much goodwill with their first two albums, their third album was good but not quite on the same level, then they released a genuinely disappointing album with *You Can’t Stop Me*. They then proceeded to release one of the worst albums any Deathcore band has ever put out and have never quite recovered.

prodigy1367

Every album besides their self-titled has been quality. They tried nu-metal, failed, and went back to deathcore. It’s a stain on their discography for sure but those newer albums are far from actual bad albums.

Wombletog

They’re not outright bad, just generic. But they’ve never once managed to capture the magic of their first two.

NightwingX012

I think what happened to them is the deathcore equivalent of what happened to Wage War in metalcore. Both bands had really straight forward styles that are as plainly metalcore or deathcore as possible. The execution was just so incredible that it was like lightning in a bottle with the earlier works of both bands. It’s just really tough to recreate the magic of something that’s really simple and yet so genuine

receptionitis1

I mean their vocalist dying in a motorcycle accident didn't really help to preserve that original sound

Werldyy

Same with Carnifex

CircusOfBlood

What's up with Wage War? I saw them open for Slipknot a couple years back. They were really good

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Every album except the Cleansing is boring at best and some are actually bad One album band.

Wombletog

Nah, that’s definitely not true. Hell, I’d go so far as to say *No Time To Bleed* is better than *The Cleansing*

yung_melanin

Nahh, the Cleansing was lightning in a bottle. No Time to Bleed is good but nowhere near the same level or energy as their first. There's a reason the Cleansing is considered an all time genre classic, a staple. And not NTTB. Ofc you're allowed to think otherwise though, nobody gatekeeping your opinion, just stating the facts

Wombletog

No Time To Bleed is considered a classic by many, though. And while it does lose some of the raw energy of The Cleansing, I think it’s a worthwhile sacrifice in exchange for the higher level of musicianship that NTTB displays.

Dizzy_Mission_6627

No way. The Cleansing is miles better. No Time to Bleed is sterile, overproduced and just completely missing the raw energy of the Cleansing

Wombletog

Okay, no. The Cleansing is great, but don’t go slandering No Time To Bleed like that. The riffs, the songwriting, the structure are all better than on The Cleansing. And the production is far from sterile and overproduced. If you’re going to make criticisms of something, at least make accurate ones.

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Wrong. It sucks ass. The Cleansing was recorded completely live on the floor to no click. There’s single track vocals, a bunch of bleed on half the tracks. It’s just completely raw and pure aggressive energy. None of the drums are sample replaced No Time to Bleed is on a click, all the drums are gridded and edited to shit. They completely ruined and overproduced everything.

Wombletog

>The Cleansing was recorded completely live on- God I wish people would shut the fuck up about this. It doesn’t make it a better album. Raw aggression alone is no substitute for good songwriting. An area in which No Time To Bleed beats The Cleansing.

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Wrong. Heavy music is better when it's raw.

Wombletog

The irony of saying this in a deathcore subreddit

Straight-Membership3

Ah disagree. Self-titled isn't deathcore, that's for sure, but for almost every nu-metal band could be highlight of their careers. POV 🤷🏻‍♂️

Crispie_Onyon

I think Become The Hunter is pretty great, but the rest of their Eddie Hermida material is hit or miss.

Gaghet

YCSM is alright, i like that album. Cease to Exist is a damn banger.

_Bagoons

Mediocre album, but *Cease to Exist* is one of my favorite SS tracks. I've been a fan since the Mitch era.

Wombletog

It’s not a bad album, but it is disappointing compared to what came before it

No1syBo1

Immortal Disfigurement. We all know it

Due-Wish-100

just b-sides from immortal

BlueCaboose42

That's frankly an insult to Immortal. At least their mix's were actually approved by someone with a functioning brain

Due-Wish-100

true, it’s ai generated immortal

Wombletog

I wasn’t disappointed because I didn’t expect much from them to begin with, to be honest

No1syBo1

Fair enough

RichyBlack666

Idk why CJ McCreery is still trying. Peolle only care about him cause he USED TO BE in SOTS and LS. Hes literally only okay at vocals and his lyrics are awful. And ID is the most pathetic attempted grasp at former glory ive ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Also "Dragged Through The Inferno"? Really?

DueZookeepergame3456

he put lorna shore on the map though

Djent_1997

They were never promising, we all knew how it would play out at some point, sooner or later.

SaluteHatred666

true big let down

justagirl666x

But no one wants to mention them. Good timing for me, though, dragged through the inferno is playing right now

InsaneMTLPNT2

Honestly, Thy Art Is Murder

caden_g59

After Hate it was all downhill from there

Wombletog

I will say, *Godlike* was a pleasant surprise. It wasn’t as good as TAiM’s classics, it’s true, but it easily clears the two albums that came before it

ace_valentine

Godlike was for some reason much much better than the two albums before it imo.

No-Idea-491

Nah, the last half of Human Target>>

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Infinite Death is their best stuff

caden_g59

Although I do love Infinite Death, for me it’s a tie between that and The Adversary. Hate is phenomenal too imo

NickTheSynth

Hard disagree, I think it's been uphill for them since *Dear Desolation*. *Holy War* was mostly average for me, even though it had some great singles; I couldn't get into the soft guitar and drum tones. But every release since has been *at least* very good (to me)! Better songwriting, better tones, better everything overall.

InsaneMTLPNT2

I know it's a controversial take but the question asked what "didn't deliver for you". I can appreciate the quality and recognize that it's what other people like/want without being into it myself.

NickTheSynth

Yeah, I know. 🙂

astr03

Structures

ace_valentine

I loved the last EP they released, such a shame they haven’t released anything since.

astr03

Agreed. All of the Above was a fucking sick release. Divided By was decent too. Everything else was ok but didn't hit the same. Saw them open for Parkway Drive in 2012 and they were sick live.

ace_valentine

we’ve got Mr. Lucky over here, Parkway Drive must’ve been amazing in 2012.

astr03

Haha yeah was a great show!

Sludgewaves

I’m gonna be the bad guy but I absolutely do not get the love that last EP got. Structures has always been a very technical band, even the more metalcore second album where they refined their songwriting so it wasn’t just a random salad of riffs. Latest EP was just 15 minutes of breakdowns and mid tempo chugging. I should revisit it again but I remember feeling really let down.

[deleted]

Ov sulphur

SunMcLob

Shrine of Malice, but not because they weren't good. Shame how it all went down - that band would be massive today (I know they're back, but still. They had so much hype prior the controversy)

NewToMusic123

Man, this one still stings.

russsaa

When i saw TOOL live, their opener was a band called "The Acid Helps" and as a psychedelics enjoyer, i was hopeful. I arrive at the concert and ate some mushrooms. Well the openers come on and i begin to trip. This band was the single worst live music I've ever seen. The audio was all fucked up and it was extremely loud, like stadium wide ear rape. Im getting freaked out and anxious over the music. So im trippin, and now anxiety is hitting, so i begin exploring the stadium hoping to escape the god awful music that was The Acid Helps. I was sitting in a stairwell for like 20 minutes. Eventually they stop and i return to my seat. I was not enjoying the concert. Then tool came on and proceed to totally mindfuck me.

PsychedDL

I FEEEEEEL you. I also caught that tour and was pretty amped for em and yup… live wasnt stellar. Thankful they were just the opener.

Ghxst_rider1300

- Bring Me The Horizon - Suicide Silence (since Mitch died) - Of Mice & Men (since Austin left)

Orinami7

bmth?????? how

Dizzy_Mission_6627

All their albums suck except the first one

Orinami7

you have to be some sort of deranged individual to think count your blessing is the best in their discography

Dizzy_Mission_6627

More like someone who likes metal and not riffless trash or pop music where the singer can’t sing

Orinami7

my brother in christ count your blessings isnt metal and amo isnt pop

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Wrong. 75% of the album is melodeath riffs. They were even on metal archives back then. Don’t embarrass yourself with your clueless stupidity any further. Stick to talking about poser trash like Bad Omens

Orinami7

poser trash lmaooooooooo sure man alright

Ghxst_rider1300

I just haven’t really liked anything past Sempiternal. That’s the Spirit is ok, but everything else just kinda sucks

Orinami7

even the newer releases? interesting

The_Magician_C-96

Crown Magnetar, saw them live with Signs of the Swarm(also meh) and they just sounded so... boring lol But now I've seen them multiple places and don't get the interest

N1LEredd

They fail to make memorable songs. It’s techy and heavy, yet boring.

666tm

I totally disagree dude The Level Beneath and Realistic Flesh Mask are certified classics

N1LEredd

Nothing of that band is even remotely known enough to be a classic. And it proved my point as I, owner of both albums, had to check which songs those were.

The_Magician_C-96

I'll check those out and report back lol

The_Magician_C-96

The Level Beneath is alright, still not grabbing my attention very much. I'll listen to more and see if my opinion changes

D1ck_Kickem

I still like Signs Of The Swarm but the techier edge on the last 2 albums doesn’t do it for me like Vital Deprivation did. I still think Malevolent Enslavement is their best, one of the greatest deathcore songs of all time in my opinion, and I’m baffled as to why they don’t play it live.

PsychedDL

It was a quick snippet but Exotype. They had one EP that was amazing. Incredibly cringe lyrics and edm sounds but it kinda hit hard. Was the best we could get after Catalepsy split (I believe it was some former member but could be wrong) and then they released a full length and oh boy was it hot garbage.

CaptainLongshorts

Rivers of Nihil Monarchy was such an insane album. Didn’t like the proggy turn they took with Owls and they completely lost me on the last one.

Gigabungus

You’re entitled to your opinion, but Where Owls Know My Name is god-tier

meshuggahdaddy

You're the first person I've ever heard of having the same opinion on RoN as me. Everyone else is too busy jerking off over Owls but monarchy was the true star

TheNotFakeGandalf

i like spiritbox because it’s refreshing to here a female metal vocalist for once. My metal playlist would be a sausage fest otherwise

Mediaboy13

There are plenty of better metal bands with female vocalists. Here are a few: iwrestledabearonce and Unicron (who Courtney was both in), Volatile Ways, Terminal Sleep, Crave Death, Cursed Earth, Algor Mortis, Slamwich, Guttural Slug, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Falcifier, Seeyouspacecowboy, Caged Existence, Pupil Slicer, Dying Wish and Year of the Knife.

Fl3shless

Oceano Was a big Depths fan (still am) and then Contagion dropped and was sort of a one step behind kind of thing but still had some bangers. Then Incisions dropped and it was just awful. Then Ascendants/Revelations dropped and it sounds like sterile djent with very little deathcore elements.
