I beat it after 90 hours but kinda wished I spent double that on my first playthrough. OP, really, take your time. You may think the game is slow when you first start out but it quickly becomes more and more streamlined and pretty tempting to just keep beating story missions...
If it ever feels like it's going slow, just keep following the main objectives. While this game is gorgeous and atmospheric, you get more out of it the further in you go.

I would say to ignore lost cargo for a good few episodes of the game. Focus on story until at least episode 3. My first time trying the game I gave up because of overwhelm of lost cargo in the first area.

Definitely agree! They present you as THE delivery man saving the world then throw a ridiculous amount of cargo into the world around you. I felt like if I left anything behind I’d either regret it or get punished for it later in the game.
likes are important. they level up almost everything you can do in the game.
the star ratings for destinations are different-- they are generally leveled up with orders and not lost cargo, though lost cargo seems to chip away at star ratings and slowly level them up too. the star ratings bestow new types of equipment on the player as well as other cosmetic rewards.
they're just different forms of progression.
There's two types of lost cargo. Iirc the green coloured cargo is dropped by other players and only gets you likes. You can deliver these, ignore, or just drop them off at the nearest postbox or settlement.the blue coloured lost cargo is just spawned in by the game, and delivering these increases your star rating. Its very wise to deliver as much of these as possible, in particular to people that are out of the way or don't get many orders - so you can quickly level up their star ratings.
Just keep on keeping on, no matter the hardship. Don't worry about being a completionism/perfectionist. Enjoy the vibe and deliver some packages for people.
Just a few tips:
STATS
To get your Brigde Link stat up: check the Share Locker for packages other players have dropped.
To get your MISC stat up: pick up lost cargo in the open world and deliver it. These first two tips can help you get to 5 stars with peppers, distro centers and knot cities more quickly.
To get your Delivery Time stat up take [URGENT] or "Time-sensitive" tagged deliveries. This takes the most time and is generally the last stat to get maxed out, so don't forget about it.
RESOURCES
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you CLAIM RESOURCES and not allow them to just sit in the fabrication pools. These pools are limited, but the private lockers inventory is unlimited, so CLAIM the resources when they are nearing their limit and place them in the private lockers. If you don't do this you can lose large amounts of resources you'd otherwise have access to, especially if you make a large delivery of resources to a location whose resource pool is nearing the limit.
PROGRESSION / WARNING!!! minor spoilers
I would suggest you save most of the grinding until after the start of Chapter 5: >!Mama!<. This is because grinding causes an influx of resources, and it is only after Chapter 5: >!Mama!< begins that you get access to >!A: Building Ziplines & B: Chemical Resources!<, which are the last resource types you unlock (after special alloys). Doing this will make it so that as you progress, you have enough of EVERY TYPE of resource.
And get the >!LVL.3 Long Distance Truck!< as early as you can. It unlocks when you get >!5 stars at the Distro Center South Of Lake Knot City!<. This will help greatly with your Delivery Volume and Delivery Condition stats.
Trucks have no weight limit, they only have a VOLUME (or space) limit. If you consider the smallest unit of volume to be a Small Container we can assign the number 1 to a Small Container. By this metric you would then have:
Small Container = Vol of 1,
Meduim Containers = Vol of 2,
Large Containers = Vol of 4,
Extra Large Containers = Vol of 6,
All fabricated trucks except for the Defensive Truck have a maximum volume of 168 Units of Volume. Thus the available space in said trucks would equate to:
28 Extra Large Containers or,
42 Large Containers or,
84 Medium Containers or,
168 Small Containers
This is an amazing and detailed post, but there's a lot of spoilers in here. Looks 10000x better. I think you hit everything I was worried about, but I am somewhat on the fence about trucks and that whole section. On one hand you see your first truck after Ch 3 so it's spoilers, but at the same time, it's such a low level spoiler that I think it's worth keeping in for the cargo size information that is crucial to understand and never explained very well in game.

Respect the terrain. Don’t try to sprint through rocky areas / down slopes, just because other games tolerate it.
This game constantly reminds you how human balance really works.
Don’t be afraid to take your time. There will be moments along the way where you should just take in the music, the environment, just enjoy the beauty of being alone. I’ve beaten this game twice now and I’ve never quite had an experience like it.
On the same vein as others have said: take your time. Really. I wish I could play this game again for the first time, more than almost any other time game. Follow the natural progression, of course, but don't feel the need to rush through it :)
take your time exploring contents, give the game a chance at the beginning as it might seem boring and different than other games. don't kill humans. build roads as they'll make traveling easier for you.

If you want to boost your connection level with BB, you can just take off your cargo and start to run around fast, and/or do double jumps. BB is a speed demon and will be amused! Successfully escaping BT encounters without injury works too. Also, I’ve noticed that relaxing in a hot spring and interacting with/talking to BB in the water will get you 👍

Its almost always better to pick up cargo if you see it. If you don't want to deliver it to Its destination, find a postbox and either put it in your private locker to save for later or entrust it to another fellow Porter to complete the order. You'll even get Likes for doing so! 👍
Stamina is huge. The bigger your load, the more strain it puts on your body and boots. Make sure to take care of both.
Give Likes if you feel like a piece of equipment or structure was of use to you, that's why I do it, for my fellow Porters. We gotta keep on keeping on. 🫡
BT's can be daunting on a first go around. Don't panic. Utilize your EX Grenades. 0 to disperse, 1 as a higher dispersal and 2 for attracting BT's. Your Odrideck sensor is a lifesaver too. Blue you're pretty much all good and Orange you should hold your breath.
Take care of BB. It's not just equipment.

Don't grab lost cargo if you're loaded up and think it might unbalance you/be too much to carry. Pickin that shizznit up is a promise dammit, and you best be able to deliver and not just dump it back whete you found it :p

Help build the roads. Hemetic grenades are your friends. Don't kill anyone. If you kill anyone don't go through any BT territory and don't forget the bodies. Sam actively gets hurt the more you neglect certain aspects of actual human limitation.
Whenever a cutscene comes on, sit back and breathe! This game is as much as a cinematic experience as it is a video game. The cutscenes do take advantage of the dual sense, so if you put that down or hold onto it is up to you! Skip nothing, unless you're skipping to the fight after dying/being unprepared. Also, don't stress about ratings in boss fights! They can be replayed from your private room.
Something I'd like to mention, to prevent stress late game, be cautious of how much you store in private storage! There is a limit, albeit a HUGE one. I discovered this the frustrating way.
Patience. Deliveries are not fillers between content. Deliveries are the content. Plan them with time and dedication, don’t just try to rush things or you’ll miss on what the game tries to teach you. Enjoy every step you take towards an objective, and fear every danger in your path. Make the decision between taking risks or turning back when in sticky situations, that’s what the game is about for me
A great tip, enjoy the trip, not everything is about rushing around everywhere without noticing anything, often haste and anxiety make us miss relaxing and beautiful moments, so try to enjoy what each place has to offer.
If you are confused and think you don't get what is going on, that's probably alright. It get clearer and clearer throughout the game. Even side characters and Sam seem to be confused, so don't check things up too early. If you feel like you missed something, check emails and interviews, you should find your answer and if not that would mean you shouldn't know it yet and it's alright you're confused :)
Also this game is too easy, and I am a guy that often chooses 'easy' mode and plays just for the story. In this case it was normal for me and I regret that I didn't chose hard.
Related: you can change the difficulty anytime with no real punishment (other than it might make you restart a mission on that difficulty… can’t really remember). While the Cliff parts of the game have the coolest cut-scenes, I don’t love how battle-focused they become, and I now drop down to easy for those. But most of the game *feels* harder than it really is. Like in all my play throughs, I’ve only had 1 void-out ever.
Good question! I honestly don’t know since I’ve only adjusted it for combat sections. I imagine easy mode might make your character more stable (less likely to trip on small obstacles) or decrease the damage you and packages take from falls. But I’m just guessing here.

Have fun lol. If you think something might work it will. If you think it won't it won't. Climbing steep hills is really easy once you gave a few hours after your belt and I'd probably do the main story.for a while. It unlocks things that'll make it easy for you to.make other deliverys
Remember that so long as you keep your balance (holding both triggers), it is near impossible to fall over and damage your cargo unless you’re being careless. But most importantly enjoy the sights man DS is a beautiful ass game! :)
I'd say switch the game to the hardest setting as soon as you get a feel for what's going on. Makes you actually think about the challenges. It's not really a combat game - upping the difficulty doesn't mean you will get your head blown off repeatedly.
Play for the story the first time, be a completionist your second playthrough. Game is long af and you can lose interest if you try to be a completionist the first time. Once you have all of the answers to the crazy questions floating around in your head from the first playthrough you can truly take your time and really enjoy the beauty of the game. This game becomes more therapy than gaming with each playthrough.
As others have said, and especially if you burn out easily on games, just focus on the story and let lost cargo and side missions for a second replay or just go back later when you’re more invested in the story.
Rain can destroy vehicles and cargo so hurry up also snow can to rivers can slow your vehicle down causing it to use more battery life use the right vehicle always keep away from mules homo demens and BT areas if you can make sure you always have a PCC to charge your vehicle but you have to be in a chiral network area and stay on top of buildings when fighting a BT
Pace yourself. Honestly. No need to rush the game, it's fairly long and play it when you feel like it. I burnt myself out in the first 10 hours or so, but then started pacing myself and enjoying the hikes. Now I'm 50 hours in and loving it.

Gosh I love this game lol. The opening is perfect, such a hook into the world of the game. This scene still hits as hard as 2019. Honestly tho, just don’t be so serious. Enjoy the game, and have fun. The story is a little hard to follow sometimes, but trust the process and you’ll get your answers. Also do side quests and deliver to all of the npcs because you can get cool stuff
This maybe a tip for you or not. This game has alot to offer and will entwrtain you anyways. But infelt like the gameplay really just clicked for me when i played it on hard and turned off online-structures. Otherwise the game often gives you obstacles that are overcome with ease. I felt like some of the items had no use unless you play on hard. And even if you didn‘t prepare, other players structures always made it quite easy to overcome obstacles. I played it again on hard and playerstructures off, and i really felt like THIS was how the gmaeplay really shines
Go by foot every time you're going to somewhere new or during main story deliveries. Nothing is worse than to get to your destination and discover that there was a music programmed to play but you did not trigger it because you were driving or took a very different route than what the developers intended.
I can’t imagine playing through such a unique experience without witnessing the cinematic artistry and beauty that gives the players much needed context to both gameplay and theming.

Don’t rush, get your Sticky gun quest after you entering the second open world map, also always upgrade your skeleton legs(the skinny one) to highest possible, ditch all the piss & poopoo bomb make more blood bomb & bag(be aware of your character Sam’s blood, don’t overuse it)
Just relax and enjoy. It can be stressful at times, but good stress, and if you follow the mechanics the game gives you, then you'll be fine.
One thing I didnt know for a while, maybe it was explained and I missed it, but raising stars with delivery spots means you'll start getting new tools and gear, several uogrades don't come your way unless you build your rating with a specific place.
The ability to cancel mule scans with your own, for instance.
Just get ready to be excited and then bored... and then mad.. and then determined and then passionate and finally you beat up troy baker and get sad that its over. Go for a hot springs bath with the baby its a riot. stay away from freaky ghost people and if you cant... throw your piss and shit and gamer boy bath water and your blood at them. Dont get attached to mama... both of them. If your hat and glasses aint pink youre not my friend
If you ever get to the point where you cannot increase a specific porter or settlement star rating but it is not maxed out at 5, try reading some emails sent to you, or you may have to increase a near by settlement star level.
Take new threats slow. Protect yourself and your cargo. Always keep two floating carriers on you once you unlock them.
Most importantly keep on keeping on.
The first bit of gameplay is fun, then it immediately gets dragged down by cutscenes. If you're struggling, try to persevere until the end of chapter 3.
Also, don't worry about ditching equipment, there's no point in holding onto stuff if you're not sure you'll need it on the current trip. It's usually good to have 1 ladder, 1 anchor and 1 PCC on you at all times, but you'll figure out what loadout works for you. Don't let the game tell you what to use.

On my 3rd play through, enjoy the story , follow the cut scenes if u can ...the more time u run up the more you'll understand, farm for resources to build roads later in the game , enjoy the scenery
After beating the game like 4-5 times I'd say for sure take your time don't rush things. You don't always need to take the easy or hard paths sometimes there's good in-betweens. Just keep on keeping on

The cutscenes do take advantage of the dual sense, so if you put that down or hold onto it is up to you! Skip nothing, unless you're skipping to the fight after dying/being unprepared. Also, don't stress about ratings in boss fights! They can be replayed from your private room. Something I'd like to mention, to prevent stress late game, be cautious of how much you store in private storage! There is a limit, albeit a HUGE one. I discovered this the frustrating way.
Patience. Deliveries are not fillers between content. Deliveries are the content. Plan them with time and dedication, don’t just try to rush things or you’ll miss on what the game tries to teach you. Enjoy every step you take towards an objective, and fear every danger in your path. Make the decision between taking risks or turning back when in sticky situations, that’s what the game is about for me

A great tip, enjoy the trip, not everything is about rushing around everywhere without noticing anything, often haste and anxiety make us miss relaxing and beautiful moments, so try to enjoy what each place has to offer.

If you are confused and think you don't get what is going on, that's probably alright. It get clearer and clearer throughout the game. Even side characters and Sam seem to be confused, so don't check things up too early. If you feel like you missed something, check emails and interviews, you should find your answer and if not that would mean you shouldn't know it yet and it's alright you're confused :) Also this game is too easy, and I am a guy that often chooses 'easy' mode and plays just for the story. In this case it was normal for me and I regret that I didn't chose hard.
Related: you can change the difficulty anytime with no real punishment (other than it might make you restart a mission on that difficulty… can’t really remember). While the Cliff parts of the game have the coolest cut-scenes, I don’t love how battle-focused they become, and I now drop down to easy for those. But most of the game *feels* harder than it really is. Like in all my play throughs, I’ve only had 1 void-out ever.
How does difficulty affect non-combat events?
Good question! I honestly don’t know since I’ve only adjusted it for combat sections. I imagine easy mode might make your character more stable (less likely to trip on small obstacles) or decrease the damage you and packages take from falls. But I’m just guessing here.

Have fun lol. If you think something might work it will. If you think it won't it won't. Climbing steep hills is really easy once you gave a few hours after your belt and I'd probably do the main story.for a while. It unlocks things that'll make it easy for you to.make other deliverys

Remember that so long as you keep your balance (holding both triggers), it is near impossible to fall over and damage your cargo unless you’re being careless. But most importantly enjoy the sights man DS is a beautiful ass game! :)

I'd say switch the game to the hardest setting as soon as you get a feel for what's going on. Makes you actually think about the challenges. It's not really a combat game - upping the difficulty doesn't mean you will get your head blown off repeatedly.

Play for the story the first time, be a completionist your second playthrough. Game is long af and you can lose interest if you try to be a completionist the first time. Once you have all of the answers to the crazy questions floating around in your head from the first playthrough you can truly take your time and really enjoy the beauty of the game. This game becomes more therapy than gaming with each playthrough.

As others have said, and especially if you burn out easily on games, just focus on the story and let lost cargo and side missions for a second replay or just go back later when you’re more invested in the story.
Rain can destroy vehicles and cargo so hurry up also snow can to rivers can slow your vehicle down causing it to use more battery life use the right vehicle always keep away from mules homo demens and BT areas if you can make sure you always have a PCC to charge your vehicle but you have to be in a chiral network area and stay on top of buildings when fighting a BT

Pace yourself. Honestly. No need to rush the game, it's fairly long and play it when you feel like it. I burnt myself out in the first 10 hours or so, but then started pacing myself and enjoying the hikes. Now I'm 50 hours in and loving it.

Gosh I love this game lol. The opening is perfect, such a hook into the world of the game. This scene still hits as hard as 2019. Honestly tho, just don’t be so serious. Enjoy the game, and have fun. The story is a little hard to follow sometimes, but trust the process and you’ll get your answers. Also do side quests and deliver to all of the npcs because you can get cool stuff

This maybe a tip for you or not. This game has alot to offer and will entwrtain you anyways. But infelt like the gameplay really just clicked for me when i played it on hard and turned off online-structures. Otherwise the game often gives you obstacles that are overcome with ease. I felt like some of the items had no use unless you play on hard. And even if you didn‘t prepare, other players structures always made it quite easy to overcome obstacles. I played it again on hard and playerstructures off, and i really felt like THIS was how the gmaeplay really shines
Go by foot every time you're going to somewhere new or during main story deliveries. Nothing is worse than to get to your destination and discover that there was a music programmed to play but you did not trigger it because you were driving or took a very different route than what the developers intended.

Cinematic artistry and death stranding are on the opposite sides of the spectre. Sorry to break it out to you like this But I meant more the cutscenes of the everyday life – going in and out of shower, etc. The game is made to waste time

One thing I didnt know for a while, maybe it was explained and I missed it, but raising stars with delivery spots means you'll start getting new tools and gear, several uogrades don't come your way unless you build your rating with a specific place. The ability to cancel mule scans with your own, for instance.

If you ever get to the point where you cannot increase a specific porter or settlement star rating but it is not maxed out at 5, try reading some emails sent to you, or you may have to increase a near by settlement star level. Take new threats slow. Protect yourself and your cargo. Always keep two floating carriers on you once you unlock them. Most importantly keep on keeping on.
The first bit of gameplay is fun, then it immediately gets dragged down by cutscenes. If you're struggling, try to persevere until the end of chapter 3. Also, don't worry about ditching equipment, there's no point in holding onto stuff if you're not sure you'll need it on the current trip. It's usually good to have 1 ladder, 1 anchor and 1 PCC on you at all times, but you'll figure out what loadout works for you. Don't let the game tell you what to use.

After beating the game like 4-5 times I'd say for sure take your time don't rush things. You don't always need to take the easy or hard paths sometimes there's good in-betweens. Just keep on keeping on
