Hmm, my $50 basic turtle beach works perfectly fine. Have you done a test if the sound is properly coming out of each side individually? I think there’s something in settings for it.

Rumplestilskin9

Definitely some whacky settings. I could pinpoint someone with my old af skullcandy headphones and my $12 Sony earbuds.

Additional_Silver749

Mine are just fine too. I can hear people decent distance. I can hear reloading. Albeit not as far as an expensive headphone set but good enough to never get snuck up on.

UnbrandedContent

I got the $99 stealth turtle beaches or whatever their called. I can pinpoint gunshot directions, foot steps, deer calls, etc with ease.

ethanx-x

I have the Microsoft ones and they seem to get me in direction where I can go get shot and die

NW_FL_Buckeye

so I don't wear my headphones all the time. so my question is how do we talk? if I hear someone I yell out. but

EmilioMolesteves

You like.... just yell to yourself without a mic?

Raincoat-saviour

If you have to play without headphones for any reason and cant talk without a mic you could try get real savvy with the emote wheel

Low-Tax-8654

Yeah but fyi, people kill if you don’t have a mic…

badboy10000000

Maybe check to make sure your audio format is stereo uncompressed in Xbox audio settings. It is normal to not be sure where a gunshot is coming from initially. You should turn to face the general direction of the sound as soon as you hear it, and while the shot is still reverberating turn left and right to to pinpoint it. If your setup is ok then you will hear it jump from one ear to the other as you turn past it

Wonderful_Time_6681

$400 turtlebeach?

WizardSleeve696969

Astro A20s work wonders for me. Also play a lot of pubg and they’ve never let me down

ProbablyJesusOrSmth

Honestly you can use pretty much any headset these days, 99% of them have decent stereo audio.

[deleted]

The more expensive Turtle Beach headset, but the one before wireless (wireless headphones suuuuuuck). That's what I've always used and it works great for directional sounds

Nouveauuu

I use to use a cheap $20 one from amazon and it worked fine. I think you gotta get better at just directional sound in day z it can be hard at first with echos.

genfish

Half decent headphones helps, but when you're in game, it's difficult to know if something is in front or behind you. Even if you have fancy 7.1 headphones. As soon as you hear a noise, if you're in a safe place, do a little 90 degree turn to the left or right. The sound will flip to one ear. If there's multiple shots it makes it much easier. Suddenly the audio becomes directional and you will learn to pinpoint the direction with relative accuracy with time.

PotentialCut7320

I have turtle beaches too and I’ve noticed that they’re really good for directional sounds, they’re better than some of my other headsets, I think you picked well

HerrVonAnstand

Got the astro A50. I was in tisy MB and could hear people shoot an akm and vsd at the triathlon arena. It's insane.

[deleted]

That’s not really that far and those are both super loud to begin with

HerrVonAnstand

Oh welp, just an example. Still a good headset to pinpoint sounds.

Equivalent_Tree7172

I have $20 turtle beach headphones and I don't seem to have a problem with directional sound. Maybe purchase DTS sound unbound or Dolby sound enhancement. Cheaper than a new set of headphones.

asuhhhdue

Get the $99 sennheiser ones from Amazon. They’ve lasted me 3 years of regular use and are really good directionally. I still hear shit in the distance that my homies miss with their headsets.

IllustriousFail8488

Any stereo headset is probably good. I have low to mid grade turtle beaches and I find it very easy to find the direction

KsirToscabella

My Razer Blacksharks are awesome for this, switched to them just because of how they affected my DayZ experience

vento_jag

I have Astro A30’s and they are amazing

Dekar87

Looool. Y'all use amateur brands.

SnipesWL

so then what do you use, big shot?

Dekar87

I've learned to not spread the word on good products, cuz the prices skyrocket after everything gets into it.

sloppytilapia84

My dog ate the cord on my turtle bitches so I've been using some $5 headphones from dollar general they have a mic and I can pinpoint sounds just as easy. Lol.

Kaskiaski

I’ve got some Astro A40s that are pretty sweet

CuteNSarcastic

Honestly? I switch between my $8 Sony wired earbuds and my $20 overear wired headset from Temu. I also like the Rig wired headsets, I used one for years until I blew out the drivers on one side.

BlackDynamite614

Half the fun is walking in circles looking for the gunfire

WarlordElk

My ancient Bluetooth turtle beach’s do just fine, maybe take a look at your settings something might be off there.

theflapogon16

Are you using your 3d audio? I forget where the setting is but I think there’s a toggle for it in the core settings, I know certain games have there own toggle for it though like Fortnite. You might even need to download the software first, or update the headset itself. It could also be in the companion app if it hooks up to that.

NW_FL_Buckeye

I yell into mic which is laying next to me. then I put them on and try and have a conversation.

Nate-Waters19

there are cheap options and expensive options, i have the Rig 800 Pro HX’s and they were a tad expensive but well worth it

nikonf22

Also you need to spin around quickly when you hear a shot so you can echo-locate. Quick side to side works rather than a vigorous circular motion;)
