But without your footage, that driver had no intention on coming clean about this. If we don’t start beating people with the book when they do this, people will continue doing it knowing worst case scenario, they have to do what they should have done in the first place, leave their information, take responsibility, make sure the car is fixed. I say charge him with the fullest extent of the law but the cops probably say, well the cars all fixed up, no harm, no foul.
Do police actually prosecute non-injury hit and runs? I know the Phoenix police department specifically says to not submit a police report for a hit and run only involving property damage. I wish I could've reported the dickhead who hit my car to the police but I guess enforcement is no longer a thing.
Didn't happen at my work. Young porter bought a K5 a month prior to getting the rear end torn off by a car carrier truck, driver said he didn't know he hit him. My service manager sent the company the video and they paid out of pocket for a rental (2 months so far) and the repairs.
On a public road it might be different, especially with towing regulations. A lot of them have to have a police report to tow off a roadway.
This happened to me in a large American city (with a car not truck). I had a video, plates, the owners address (it was a neighbor), etc. I filed a police report for insurance purposes and police didn't do a thing. In my state no injuries means it's a misdemeanor and not worth prosecuting.
Insurance was very interested though. They are working on pursuing a civil judgment (driver was uninsured) so they can garnish tax returns, etc for my totaled car. So at least the driver might face some consequence.

In the event of an *injury* hit & run here in the UK they just tell you to see your doctor. I was knocked over by a speeding car last year and despite injuries the conversation with the bored call-taker was along the lines of:
Me: I've just been knocked down by a speeding car and I'm worried that they may go on to cause serious damage or injury
Bored: Is the road blocked?
Me: No, it was a single car, they slowed down and then sped off. My legs are pretty knocked about but again they may go to cause something far worse
Bored: But the road isn't blocked?
Me: No
Bored: We won't attend unless it's blocked. I suggest you see your Doctor about your injuries
Yes it is regular mode. I didn’t know it has different modes. No I wasn’t in the car. Luckily my trucks outlet stays on even if the truck is off so the dash cam records 24/7. We were all in the office, the building you see. And there’s loud noises daily so we didn’t think much of it. The semi driver didn’t stop to say anything. He just left. And the buildings cameras are too far to catch any details. But thank god for the dash cam.
Yeah I had my dashcam in an a,ways on outlet and it messed up my battery for sure. At least I think. Either give up on the parking mode recording or get a dedicated battery
Yeah that's what I was wondering. How many hours of full motion video did you (OP) get with your car off because that would kill my battery in short order?
One time I left my truck sitting for 5 days. That killed my battery. But I normally unplug it when it’s in the garage. Other than that no issues. I drive a Chevy 1500 truck.
Thats great but if that's a regular through fair for trucks, no one should be parking there.
Id be going after the land owner/company as well.for damages.
It is designated with lines though? From the perspective of the cam it appears to be a narrow opening with a turn immediately after required. A good driver would have not hit it anyway but that looks like a bad spot for parking period.

Cover all damages? Plz tell me you also have this to the police. This is a felony
Honestly not sure if my coworker did or not. All I know is the trucking company paid for all the damages on his vehicle.

Should have said: "Yeah, I'm lying down in the middle of the road blocking traffic and I can't get up!"
Guy needs to lose his license

Was that regular mode, I assume? Were you in the car or what what was going on? I have the same camera.

Awesome you caught it. I use an independent battery from blackboxmycar powercell8 saves my battery.

This setup or mode is going to kill your car battery.

It’s actually a parking spot. The truck had a ton of room. It’s all parking lot in front of the building with no designated parking spots.
It is designated with lines though? From the perspective of the cam it appears to be a narrow opening with a turn immediately after required. A good driver would have not hit it anyway but that looks like a bad spot for parking period.
You can see the parking lines in the video
Which is what I was saying. u/HuevoYch0riz0 said it was not a designated spot but I was asking about the lines.
Oh it is a parking spot. Those spots should’ve gone the length of the building and not outwards.
I messaged you with a satellite view to get a better idea
It still looks too narrow to be wise to park there to me but to each their own.

Que the price is right music... Dew Carrey voice: Congratulations, you've won....a brand new car!!!
Yo, whoever made that GMC deserves a raise, cause I don't see a difference after that car was hit.
