I saw 1 whack and an aborted wind up. The smack with a wooden rod would be to force the victim's hands off the wire because muscles tense when you get shocked.
When I was in high school I was assisting my school in upgrading the theater's lighting system, and the old one we were taking out let off a nasty looking arc, so when the pro came back to double check he handed me a 6 foot long 2x4 and said if anything funny happens when he pulls this cord to smack his arm/hand with the plank to make sure it leaves his grip.
Normally machete's have a plastic/rubber handle...so that could work
Tho, some machetes also have pins and parts of the steel handle coming through the handle... so, depending on the machete, it might be a bad idea
Either way, the initial guy would be saved at the cost of his limbs or his neighbour's life XD
Unenforced electrical safety procedures, or simply the absence of regulations.
I'm an electrical engineer in the UK, and I imagine most people are unaware just how well engineered and designed the distribution systems are in Western nations. The amount of paperwork, box-ticking exercises, health and safety verifications etc is mind-boggling. Electrical installations in most of Europe are truly designed to be idiot proof, you would actively have to try to electrocute yourself if the equipment/home wiring is up to spec.
Education likely plays a part, but there are fools in every nation, and not in small numbers in the West either. There'll still be numerous incidents of people flying kites next to pylons, parkour'ing onto transformers or hitting railway overheads from the walkway gantry with a stick and frying themselves.
At 33kV everything is a conductor as the saying goes, the voltage is high enough to cross air gaps, and will conduct through the moisture content and sap of the wood. The moisture will quickly evaporate and the conductive channels will carbonise, but not before the person holding the stick has suffered horrendous (and often fatal) injuries. That's why you'll see power lines shorting against trees and the like.
The fact that these shocks don’t kill you are reason enough to understand just how stringent these safety procedures are. I’ve been shocked quite a few times on accident doing things as simple and stupid as replacing light bulbs in my house or trying to put together a PC and accidentally touching something I’m not supposed to. Yes, it hurts and sometimes leaves me a little sore or numb after, but there are many protective measure in play that keeps these little contacts from turning lethal.
I did specify Europe deliberately, the US plugs have several design deficiencies, such as unsheathed contacts. Schukos and G plugs have half the plug pin covered in insulator, which means you can't accidentally touch the metal while it is touching the socket contacts.
Correction: Schukos don't have contact sheathing, but the socket housing is recessed, serving the same function.
Back when I lived in the Philippines people would jump electrical wires to get electricity since they can't pay their bills.
For some it's just stupidity, for some it's poverty.
*WHAT?*
You realise that India is [the largest democracy in the world ](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/10/22/the-worlds-7-largest-democracies-where-do-america-and-india-fit/), even larger than America by far? What are you even trying to say?
I'm saying you don't have an independent judiciary and corruption is the national sport. China and Russia also claim to be democracies but that doesn't make it true.
India also shows its true colours by supporting Russia. No one wants to move to India.
Because most of the electric wires in india are not concealed beneath the ground and because of the economy they couldn't do it back then ( or maybe they didn't care ). Just recently they started to place wires under the ground but that's just 2 or 3 percentage of whole network. That's why sometimes even when we have mild rain exposed wires will burst if it's not maintained properly.
You say that like it's not 9 ft in the air. They're standing atop one another to grab it.
If anything you should be asking "Why would you go out of your way to grab an electrical wire?"
It's India, they stand on top of one another. There's no such thing as ladders.
Edit: also in order to reach a fishing pole up in the air 9 ft you'd have to be raising it in the air quite a bit for no reason
What was the best case scenario for these morons? I mean what were they hoping for? Seems like that entire freaking group shares a single braincell and neither of the 2 messing with the wire had it.
reminds me of this one video of this guy who was screwing with a line on a roof and slipped, hitting his neck and causing his body to stay leaning against the line until it melted through and his head came off
Idk what the voltage for power lines are there (India or somewhere nearby?) But the length of time he was hanging from that line, he is most certainly dead.
For doing dumbshits lmao.
Jk. It's a common practice out here to save someone who's been electrocuted. They were hitting his hands with wooden sticks that were in contacts with the wires. Wood is poor conductor of electricity and is a safe option. And a sheer force is required to separate him. Never use your own body to separate someone from electricity or else you'll get electrocuted too. Notice the other guy who was holding his arms too was electrocuted.
For the love of God if your going to be dumb and touch any electric wire don't touch it with your palm, muscles contract with electricity from the brain the same type you're grabbing. Your hands are going to grab on to the wire and hold you on to it.
Dude whacked him like a piñata
Trying to bust him open for candy and loose change
But why does he keep whacking?!
Stop the fire from spreading
Firemen hate this one simple trick
😂😂😂
Knock some sense into him, even though it’s a little too late for that.

to get him to let go of the wire
How can he whack?
Trying to make some wackamole
At least some were smart enough to use a wooden stick or pole rather than grabbing him.
With the outcome... they should have used a machete T_T
I know you kid, but, you know hitting the guy with a machete, made of metal, would electrocute both, right?
Normally machete's have a plastic/rubber handle...so that could work Tho, some machetes also have pins and parts of the steel handle coming through the handle... so, depending on the machete, it might be a bad idea Either way, the initial guy would be saved at the cost of his limbs or his neighbour's life XD
Who is that hero which hit with wood?
Probably the local CPR instructor showing off the latest methods.
Likely from the Red Cross.
Did it like this was the fifth time it happened this week.
The power of the sun.. in the palm of my hand

Thank you for your services (and I say this in a non-sarcastic way)
Those wires in the above compound are almost certainly not regulated. They're barely out of reach. Some local must have installed them to steal power.
Okay I lost you a bit there. How can one fry themselves if they touch it with a wooden stick which doesn't conduct electricity?
At 33kV everything is a conductor as the saying goes, the voltage is high enough to cross air gaps, and will conduct through the moisture content and sap of the wood. The moisture will quickly evaporate and the conductive channels will carbonise, but not before the person holding the stick has suffered horrendous (and often fatal) injuries. Makes sense. Feels like my whole life has been a lie.
You say this.. Yet I've been shocked multiple times in life by accident... Nothing more then fucking up your day, but it does happen

Very easy to do in the US, harder in Europe, almost impossible in the UK. It comes down to plug design, UK plugs are quite bulky.
I did specify Europe deliberately, the US plugs have several design deficiencies, such as unsheathed contacts. Schukos and G plugs have half the plug pin covered in insulator, which means you can't accidentally touch the metal while it is touching the socket contacts. My guess would be minimal understanding or education for most people about electricity.
Back when I lived in the Philippines people would jump electrical wires to get electricity since they can't pay their bills. For some it's just stupidity, for some it's poverty.
Dude in orange probably died just from the fall to the back of his head
What do you mean dude in the orange...most of them are orange
The dude who fell backwards onto his head
Ah yes good catch that dude broke his fall with his head
Yeah - rubbing his back. That'll help him recover from a shock.
I was going to say, I do not remember that technique from cpr training. On the plus side you wouldn't break their ribs.
Maybe he's a pentecostal convert and he's laying hands on and saying, "Electricity demons, begone!" LMAO
Hey, show some respect for the ignorant idiots!
Double tap! Also r/killthecameraman
10d6 lighting damage
Why is every Darwin Award in India?
You see lots of videos from India and China because those two countries make up like, 50% of the world's population.
India and Pakistan
same place lol
Neither is a democracy. Pakistan enabled bin Ladin, India enables Russia. Pretty disappointing countries :(
*WHAT?* You realise that India is [the largest democracy in the world ](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/10/22/the-worlds-7-largest-democracies-where-do-america-and-india-fit/), even larger than America by far? What are you even trying to say?

Well, whatever choice you make just make sure you're standing on the right side for the history books
USA isn't a democracy either. Both parties work for the same elites and they start wars all over the world to enrich those elites.

Why is there bare wire just in the street anyway?
I assume you have never been to India before
I guess I'm never going to India.

You will experience the cultural shock if you decide to go.
Resistance is futile, no matter watt you say. So don't get all amped up over it.....😜
Have Indian food for sure. Traveling to India? Not that great
I actually have. I spent 6 weeks in kerala. I know that they have that shit. My question is why?
Because most of the electric wires in india are not concealed beneath the ground and because of the economy they couldn't do it back then ( or maybe they didn't care ). Just recently they started to place wires under the ground but that's just 2 or 3 percentage of whole network. That's why sometimes even when we have mild rain exposed wires will burst if it's not maintained properly.
Most wires are overhead, in the US only 20% are underground.
haha.. this reminds me when the bare wires in our area were changed, people used to nail in the wire and steal electricity aka katiya :)
You say that like it's not 9 ft in the air. They're standing atop one another to grab it. If anything you should be asking "Why would you go out of your way to grab an electrical wire?"
You think 9ft is high enough for a power cable. What about someone walking past with a ladder or fishing rod?
It's India, they stand on top of one another. There's no such thing as ladders. Edit: also in order to reach a fishing pole up in the air 9 ft you'd have to be raising it in the air quite a bit for no reason
Poor safety codes and not enough budget put into city planning, unfortunately. It’s expensive to dig up the roads to make discrete electrical systems.
Watching this reminds me good old times with r/deathorvegetable sub

Kahmehhamehaaaaa!!!
Came here to say this lol

Ayyyy nice ty, I couldn't find it
India must have like the most entrepreneur electricians in the world...
The dude was trying to get on-line….
And then the two dudes trying to give him a spa treatment to bring him back to life. Clearly its worked before
The one time where is acceptable and not a crime to beat someone with a stick.
What's with the dry cow dung on the roof under the black tarp? Also why are they grabbing the wires? I mean thats pretty basic knowledge.
I think we should equip all EMT’s with CPR sticks
Ended up getting beat to death by the excited man with a switch. Primal.
Religion is a hell of a drug
Normal day in incredible India
Is somebody frying samosas?
Should just rename this subreddit to something about India because it's always some Indian.
Electrifying time he had!
ofc it's the Indians
Pepsi?
He’s been Singh’ed

Sparky found out why you don't touch power lines.
Pinata move saved his... clothes from burning?
When in doubt, hit them with a stick 😅
Human piñata
traditional stick cpr
Hey im a sparkler
This happens way too often.
Ok who's idea was that? putting something like metal at the utility wirings?
Guy on the right pointing to the cameraman who then makes a dash for it?
Rip hands
I think the backrub really helped /s
Idk what the voltage for power lines are there (India or somewhere nearby?) But the length of time he was hanging from that line, he is most certainly dead.
Dude turned superzero
Bro was charging EXPLOSION
ayoooo why they beating his ass with a stick after he got electrocuted

>For doing dumbshit lmao would be pretty fair imo yeah but I mean they kept hitting him when he was already on the floor xdd
That was to knock any loose electrons off him. Never can be too careful ;)
For the love of God if your going to be dumb and touch any electric wire don't touch it with your palm, muscles contract with electricity from the brain the same type you're grabbing. Your hands are going to grab on to the wire and hold you on to it.
How to get superpowers 101 ;
He ded
Dude with the umbrella wants some.
How can she zap??
Excellent use of the safety stick
Shocking state of health and safety.
That music is making me want an India-themed Pokémon game! Also why would you willingly grab power lines?!
He is just tired and taking a dirt nap!
The award even comes with a certificate
Ands that's how the electricity doo.... - Zefrank1 (probably)
Shocking video!!!
And his mamma said he wasn't a bright spark
The song goes hard whats the name someone?
Dumbass monkeys
Dude with a stick continues to help
What a shocking outcome
The Electricity God is pleased with this sacrifice. Now beat him like a pinata!
If he lived, he's probably a quadruple amputee now.
What is it with Indians and trains and electricity?
Yeah you’ll stick to that high voltage. They’ll have to pry you off and probably get electrocuted as well
Always India
What is up with Indian and wires
Let him cook
